Cass's spirit world outfit is so underrated

ABSOLUTELY. Top tier outfit all around!!

BANDAGE WRAPS MY BELOVED!! I also love the high collar that she can pull up. I feel like if Cass could retain this outfit she should just wear this casually tbh, like this slapssss. Haining's design sketches are also sooo cool!!

I kinda really like the over-one-shoulder cape of the A design, I'm just a big fan of over-the-shoulder capes in general. But I love the looseness of the robe + the obvious Chinese cultural influences in B, it makes me think of Cass in a Chinese period drama 😭.

As far as I know this is her only outfit that draws inspiration from Chinese culture (BY A CHINESE ARTIST + WRITER. EVIL CASS DOES NOT COUNT) so I really love it!!! Everyone read Spirit World!!!

so! this was SUPPOSED to be a bonnie drawing. but for some reason i just Can’t draw bonnie to save my life today. and i needed to draw something simple to make myself less frustrated!! and by simple i mean this took me almost 3 hours and i had to redraw it because i didn’t like how the lineart turned out the first time!! oops!! at least it turned out cute🩶. and i got to play around with my textured brush!

also as a bonus, my terrible first attempt + the sketch!! that i apparently accidentally deleted at some point? so this is a screenshot from the timelapse. i dont know what happened to it…

thinking about cass & dick and being able to clock each other instantly.. or not being able to clock each other and freaking out. always the perceiver never the perceived. thinking about how they're two sides of the same coin, so close yet too far apart to meet, turning and turning yet never on the same plane. thinking about how they don't agree on much but they'll always agree on the belief in the world they're trying to protect, in the salvation they seek from penance, in the absolute precision of every movement, from the flick of a wrist to a twitch of their toes. they have two hands attached to their arms, one to carry sin and one to carry sacrifice, and they head out into the world in hopes of preserving the very thing that saved them. thinking about how the thread of life ties them together and they offer to the world themselves, holy and whole.

first pic is inspired by a line on limbus wiki saying that the description for consumables for motwe event probably had a reference to mili's "from a place of love" cuz warp train massacre etc... the description talks about prosthetic users and the reference is 'blood is thicker than water'. which is very convenient to use for sasha. and pics 3&4 is abt a small idea of them getting off the train and having to disguise with someone else's clothes, namely bloodfiend hunter ones (the irony!)

I think most people who have some exposition to psychology are familiar with the Critical Period Hypothesis. But just in case anyone isn’t, I’ll explain it real quick and how it connects to Cass Cain and BG2000.

Long explaination below:

The Critical Period Hypothesis (CPH) asserts that language acquisition occurs exclusively in childhood. After childhood, the brain looses the plasticity that would allow it to adapt and organize stimuli, rendering language acquisition difficult (or impossible).

The CPH states that if adequate stimulus is not provided within the first few years of life, the individual will never achieve a full command of language.

Though the CPH cannot be technically proven because of how crazy unethical it would be, proof of the CPH is seen in case studies of “wild” and deaf children who were deprived of language in early life. I’m going to refrain from mentioning any specific cases, because as you can imagine any child deprived from language for the entirety of their early childhood suffered tremendous abuse.

Here is of course, unfortunately, where we bring this back to Cass. Cass spent the first nine years of her life isolated and deprived of language (often in bg2000, Cass and others will refer to her ability to read and analyze body language as “language” but it is inherently not language in the sense we’re referring to here).

Whether Cass, at age nine, would be able to learn language following her deprivation from it is unclear. In real life cases, children who were deprived of language until the age of six years old were often able to learn language later in life, but children deprived until the age of 12-13 were often unable to learn language. Batgirl 2000’s explanation regarding Cass’s neurology suggested that the neural pathways responsible for processing spoken language were underdeveloped to allow greater development of neural pathways specialized for processing and interpreting body language. Under this assumption, we can assume that similarly to other “wild” children, Cass’s struggle and inability to learn language stems from her missing the Critical Period of language acquisition.

This explains why despite relatively frequent interactions with people, Cass never learns any language from the ages of nine to sixteen (fleeing cain to no man’s land). This also clarifies the interaction that Cass has with that Psychic in BG2000 #4. The Psychic explains this to Cass in simple terms, but he doesn’t magically transfer the knowledge of english to Cass’s brain, but instead gives Cass’s brain the ability to acquire language. Which is why Cass struggles to learn english for the rest of the run, because even after the Psychic’s intervention, she is still a seventeen year old girl who was never taught language. And even though now she has the ability to learn, she still needs to fight to learn how to speak every word.

We can also assume that the psychic changed Cass’s enlarged and shrunken neural pathways, hence why her ability to read body language suddenly declined. But that reverted following Cass’s discussion with Shiva (did we ever get an explaination for that? i don’t remember). Either way, Cass is disabled as an outcome of the abuse David Cain inflicted on her and even as her speech improved throughout comics, Cass will always be disabled.

Not to get back on my soapbox but bruce & cass’s early relationship does make me want to eat drywall. any outsider could tell you bruce is obviously enabling cass’s unhealthy behaviors and yet he 100% completely believes he’s doing the right thing for her because that’s what he thinks he would have needed in that situation. and. that says some real interesting things about bruce as a person. wow, mr. wayne, are you totally sure that what you needed when you were cassandra cain’s age was someone holding you to impossibly high standards, keeping you shut up in a cave all day, training you until your lungs gave out and encouraging vigilantism to consume every aspect of your life? is that really what you think you needed? does this maybe stem from an ultimately twisted view of yourself, bruce?

you ever think of a universe where cass finds out that bruce trained with cain as a young adult? that cass stays awake at night sometimes thinking of what would’ve happened if cain had just gotten to bruce sooner? do you think cass wonders if her being raised by cain when bruce got to wriggle out of his grasp is the least she deserves, simply for the sins of having a murderer’s tainted blood pumping through her heart?? simply for the sins of her father??

after reading steph’s batgirl run wfa is significantly less appealing to me

i don’t really care much about it’s flaws cause like it’s just a webtoon i don’t expect it to be GOOD and when i started reading it i didn’t have access to many comics anyway but like. wdym steph hated being batgirl bc she felt she had to live up to cass and babs’ legacies. did you read the comic. she was thriving as batgirl she had never been happier.
