Monosodium Glutamate Prices | Pricing | Trend | News | Database | Chart | Forecast
Monosodium glutamate (MSG), a widely used flavor enhancer in the food industry, has seen fluctuations in its prices due to a variety of factors. The demand for MSG spans across global markets, driven primarily by its application in processed foods, snacks, seasonings, and even restaurant dishes. Being a key ingredient in savory foods, the global food processing industry has a strong influence on its pricing. Over the years, several factors such as raw material costs, production capacity, global demand, and supply chain logistics have impacted MSG prices. As the production of MSG is largely dependent on raw materials like corn or cassava for starch, changes in the prices of these agricultural products directly affect the cost of MSG. Additionally, shifts in fuel prices, which impact transportation and production costs, further drive the fluctuation in MSG prices.
Global market trends also play a significant role in determining monosodium glutamate prices. Emerging markets, particularly in Asia and Latin America, where MSG consumption is traditionally higher, have seen increased demand due to growing populations and urbanization. As more people move to cities, the demand for convenient, ready-made, and processed foods continues to rise, which in turn pushes the demand for flavor enhancers like MSG. Conversely, regions like Europe and North America have shown slower growth in MSG consumption due to health concerns and changing consumer preferences toward natural or organic food products. Regulatory restrictions in certain countries also play a part in limiting the use of MSG, which can lead to a contraction in its market and price drops in these regions.
Get Real Time Prices for Monosodium Glutamate: https://www.chemanalyst.com/Pricing-data/monosodium-glutamate-msg-1594
A growing factor in the market is the shift toward environmental sustainability. As companies aim to reduce their carbon footprints, eco-friendly production practices are being adopted by manufacturers, often at higher operational costs. Cleaner production processes, renewable energy sources, and sustainable packaging all contribute to the cost of producing MSG. While this may lead to higher prices in the short term, the long-term goal is a more sustainable, yet profitable, production model that benefits both manufacturers and consumers. Sustainable practices are gaining traction among health-conscious consumers who are willing to pay a premium for products that align with their environmental values. This, in turn, influences MSG prices in certain niche markets where demand for sustainable food ingredients is rising.
The international trade environment also has an influence on MSG prices. As a globally traded commodity, the price of MSG is affected by tariffs, trade agreements, and import-export regulations between major producers like China, Indonesia, and Thailand, and importing countries in Europe, North America, and Africa. Trade tensions between countries, particularly those involving China, can impact MSG prices, as China remains the largest producer and exporter of MSG globally. Trade tariffs or import restrictions can lead to increased costs for importing countries, thereby raising local MSG prices. In contrast, favorable trade agreements can help stabilize prices or even reduce them by ensuring a steady flow of supply into key markets.
Moreover, innovations in the food industry have also influenced MSG pricing trends. As the demand for plant-based and alternative proteins grows, the need for flavor enhancers to improve the taste of such products has increased. MSG, being a cost-effective flavor enhancer, has benefitted from this trend. As plant-based food production scales up, the demand for additives like MSG is expected to grow, putting upward pressure on prices. However, this price increase might be balanced by technological advancements that make production processes more efficient, lowering overall costs.
In recent years, consumer awareness regarding food additives and health concerns related to MSG has led some companies to adopt alternative flavor enhancers, which could impact the future of MSG pricing. Although extensive scientific studies have shown that MSG is safe for consumption, public perception in some regions remains skeptical. This has led to a decline in its use in certain sectors, particularly in health-conscious markets. In response, manufacturers have started producing "MSG-free" labels for their products, tapping into a market segment that prefers natural alternatives. The growing demand for MSG substitutes, such as yeast extracts or hydrolyzed vegetable proteins, may lead to a decrease in MSG's market share, potentially influencing its price.
On the other hand, MSG continues to dominate in regions where it is a staple ingredient, and any disruptions in production capacity can lead to sharp price increases. For example, China’s recent environmental policies that target reducing emissions have led to the temporary closure of factories, including those involved in MSG production. This has created supply shortages that subsequently drove up prices in international markets. Any future policy changes in major producing countries are likely to have similar impacts on the global price of MSG.
The outlook for MSG prices remains a blend of traditional market forces and newer trends influenced by environmental, health, and technological factors. As industries continue to adapt to changing consumer preferences and regulatory landscapes, the price of monosodium glutamate is likely to remain volatile, reflecting the dynamic nature of the global food industry. Economic conditions, innovations in production technology, and evolving trade relationships will also play significant roles in shaping future pricing trends. Ultimately, MSG's price trajectory will be a reflection of both its enduring demand as a flavor enhancer and the external pressures that influence its production and distribution across the globe.

By • Olalekan Fagbade JUST IN; President Tinubu's Minister pledges to empower Hausa/Fulani Herdsmen The Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Uju-Kennedy Ohanenye, on Thursday in Abuja pledged to empower Hausa/Fulani herders from Adamawa South Senatorial zone. The Minister said this when some group of people from the zone paid her a courtesy visit. She promised to empower the people with farming tools and introduce them to plantation of hybrid rice with high yields. “I will also try to introduce the plantation of hybrid potatoes, cassava, palm oil, and when all these things are done for the people, I don’t think they will have the need to fight. “Most times, the fight between headers and farmers comes from hunger and suffering and they end up killing themselves. “I will start with hybrid rice because the good thing about hybrid rice is that when planted over the same size of farmland, it will give you 140 bags while normal rice will provide you 100 bags. According to her, “this kind of rice will give them more money and I feel that if doors of business opportunities are opened for our people to make money, there will be peace, people will not fight again. “They will be given rice processing machines that will provide 10 bags per hour, such rice will not have stones, it will not have chaff, it will be clean and it can be parboiled easily. “They will be introduced to packaging systems to enable them properly package their rice for export and local consumption,” she said. Ohanenye said that she has already discussed with the people on how to make some hectares of land available for the business, adding that the people are already her business partners. She said that the profit from the rice production in large quantities will enable the people to do other businesses and this will promote peace, love and decrease the number of out-of-school children among the people. “The people have promised to use part of the proceeds from the rice business to get their children back to school. “My ministry will support their children with scholarship programmes to make sure the children get better education and change their lives’’. Earlier, Mr Abubakar Bello, who spoke on behalf of the group, said that they were at the minister’s office to register their grievances about some other communities in Adamawa. He said that the constant crisis between farmers and herders in Adamawa south Senatorial zone had been a thing of concern for the people. Bello said that the crisis between the warring groups had affected them a lot and brought about loss of lives and many other valuable properties. “This is why we came to the ministry to lodge our complaints and we thank God that the minister has responded positively and has promised to intervene in our matters. “We thank the minister for promising to intervene with some empowerment programmes for our people and we have arable land that will enable our people venture into various businesses that she promised to introduce to us. “We thank President Bola Tinubu for appointing this kind of woman as the Minister of women affairs. She is not only performing the role of a minister but also promoting unity among different groups,’ he said. (NAN)

Brazil creates biodegradable packaging to export mango
The processed fruit can now be shipped inside a package made of coconut fiber. The material is light and should add value to the product, which will now be completely sustainable.
Tumblr media
Brazilian researchers developed a biodegradable packaging for exporting mango. The package is made of coconut fiber and was designed to ship the processed fruit. The research was developed as part of the Gesfrut project by Bruna Machado from Bahia’s National Service of Industrial Training (SENAI) in partnership with the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) at the Cassava & Tropical Fruits unit.
The coconut fibers that make up the packaging are part of the residue from processing the fruit, and the polymer blend used biodegrades in the environment in six months after disposal. The idea is making the packaging more sustainable and improve profitability in sales as the processed fruit has a higher added value compared to the whole fruit.

Me, @ the wealthy imperial British landowners in the 1790s in the Caribbean who, despite living near diverse communities of residents with knowledge of the land and despite technically controlling vibrant tropical ecosystems, were still fixated on sugarcane and so they purposely ignored local ecology and native island vegetation, and purposely ignored advice from both their own imperialist scientists and local plant experts to diversify the plants growing in the soil, in order to maximize profit from their non-native or unsustainable industrial-scale monoculture crops like sugarcane, but they ended up destroying the soil, ostracizing their best political allies, creating a trade war with their closest business partners, doubling the price they had to spend on imports, and bankrupting themselves before then being too prideful to eat anything other than European food, refusing to cultivate “tropical” or “native” food plants, so then they panicked and lost even more money desperately trying to import other redundant European plants unsuitable for the climate, which also inadvertently inspired slaves to create their own autonomous food gardens and informal markets which allowed women, the enslaved, and the poor to build independent foodsheds and social networks that supplied the foundation for eventual uprisings, rebellion, and emancipation: “Congratulations, you played yourself.”
Imperialists will be like “let’s ignore local ecology for the sake of profit.” But then sometimes they’re too prideful or oblivious to respect local ecology even when it’s clearly in their best interest and would actually grant them much more money and power. And then: “Oh no, there’s a rebellion.”
Like this:
--
This is a story of the Caribbean’s globalization, but it’s all the more remarkable for the planter’s resistance to becoming local to the tropical environment. Far from embracing the plant diversity of the tropics, wealthy European planters homogenized the landscape in a process of early environmental globalization. They perceived a crisis in the food supply because of their own inability to adapt their consumption practices to the ecology of the local landscape.
[T]he environmental and social transformation of the Caribbean sugar islands is instructive here -- by the time the English had wrested Jamaica from the Spanish in the seventeenth century [...] the island’s flora and fauna had been radically transformed with the introduction of sugar cane, plantains and bananas, coffee, indigo, and other crops from African trade routes. Few of the remaining indigenous plants were utilized in an expanding external market economy with the exception of small plots of cassava, sweet potato, and the pimento. As sugar cane is one of the most demanding crops in terms of its consumption of labor and soil, even in the more diverse ecologies such as Jamaica, it consumed most of the island’s resources. [...]
Their construction of sugar monoculture contributed to their dependence on imported food items that ranged from pickled beef and pork, onions, potatoes, corn, flour, and salt cod. From Havana they obtained their cattle and horses, and from across the Atlantic they imported iron tools for plantation agriculture as well as their supplies of wool, leather, glassware, paints, paper and tobacco. As such, this particular class consumed and produced in British parochial terms rather than acclimating to the Caribbean’s diverse social and environmental spaces. [...]
Caribbean planters had no interest in diversifying their environment or economy when sugar was so lucrative. Lowell Ragatz has argued that having stacked the British Parliament with their interests, the Jamaican Assembly had created a trade war in the Atlantic to ensure that they had no competition from other sugar colonies, effectively destroying their own regional trade networks. [...] [lmao]
[T]e planter-historian Edward Long published his History of Jamaica (1774), which included an extended critique of the island’s dependence on external trade [...] [T]o facilitate the process, bounties were offered for the import of economic food plants. Banks’ Royal Society offered prize awards and gold medals for anyone who could improve the plant economy in the West Indies by importing consumable items such as olives, opium, cinnamon, nutmeg, indigo, safflower, sesame, vanilla, cloves, peppercorn and mango. [...]
The plantation slaves who cultivated indigenous and African staples in their provision grounds during their few precious moments away from the cane fields had little choice butto be imbricated in a globalization process. European planters cultivated African linguistic diversity in the fields, using globalization as a tool to establish mutual unintelligibility to reduce slave insurrection. Yet Caribbean planters were largely dependent upon the African and indigenous crops of the provision grounds, which were a vital component of the islands’ internal economies and were integral to the region’s transition to emancipation and independence. Fearing the process of tropical acclimatization associated with moral and cultural decay, the planters consumed European staples, perhaps to sustain a myth that they had not left temperate shores. [...]
Yet they also inadvertently supported a vibrant internal market economy in which slaves provided the majority of the region’s sustenance and gained significant amounts of currency, autonomy, and even freedom. By growing African and indigenous cultigens, the slave provision grounds and their internal markets contributed a vibrant, alternative economy to the monoculture of the plantocracy. Ira Berlin and Philip Morgan estimate that by the late eighteen century, over 10,000 Jamaican slaves attended the Kingston market on a weekly basis. The success of the markets caused planters to complain that a fifth to a half of the currency in Jamaica and the Windward Islands was in slave hands. Miles beyond the Euclidean geometries of the plantation, Barry Higman has explained, slaves were able to cultivate alternative concepts of spatial order [...].

Unlocking the Potential of Cassava leaves and Cassava waste
Cassava, a resilient crop that thrives under low input conditions, is more than just a source of food. Its by-products, often overlooked, hold immense potential for agribusiness firms.
Cassava Peels
Cassava peels, traditionally considered waste, can be transformed into a valuable resource. They can be processed into nutritious animal feed that can partially replace maize in animal feed, reducing environmental pollution and minimizing post-harvest losses. This not only addresses the pervasive shortages of animal feeds in rural communities of developing countries but also increases profit margins for breeders of livestock, poultry, and fish.
Processing Cassava Peels The processing of cassava peels into animal feed involves grating the peels and removing more than half of the water content through a hydraulic press. The resultant wet cake can be fed directly to cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs. Existing technologies of drying and grading cassava peels could hold the key to providing a readily available and sustainable source of animal feeds.
Economic Impact With the right investment in scaling up, Africa’s estimated 50 million tonnes of cassava peel waste per year could generate at least 15 million tonnes of High-Quality Cassava Peel (HQCP), substantially addressing shortfalls in the supply of animal feed.
Cassava Leaves
Cassava leaves, often overlooked, hold significant commercial potential in the cosmetics and healthcare industries.
Cosmetics Industry Natural Cosmeceutical Agent: Cassava leaves have been found to possess multiple cosmeceutical-related bioactivities. This is largely due to their substantial composition of bioactive flavonols, which are known for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging properties.
Emerging Sector: The processing and selling of cassava leaves is an emerging but fast-growing sector. With recent advances in industrial processing, foods free of toxins and microbial contamination are being developed.
Industrial Use: Cassava leaves are being used in the production of high-quality industrial products. For instance, some companies are exploiting cassava’s profit-making potential, including its use in the cosmetics industry.
Healthcare Industry Protein Supplement: Cassava leaves are edible when cooked or dried in the sun and can contain up to 25% – 32% protein. Many studies have postulated that cassava leaves be used as a potential protein supplement in animal and human nutrition.
Phytotherapeutic Potential: Cassava leaves have been recognized for their phytotherapeutic potential. They contain cyanogenic, phenolic, and fiber compounds that can have positive health effects, including good control of cancer cells.
Dietary Fiber: Cassava leaves are a rich source of dietary fiber. Dietary fiber is essential for a healthy diet as it aids digestion and helps prevent certain types of diseases.
The commercial potential of cassava leaves in the cosmetics and healthcare industries is vast and largely untapped. As more research is conducted and awareness grows, we can expect to see an increase in the use of this versatile plant in these sectors.
Cassava Waste
Cassava waste is the by-product of cassava processing, which includes peels, pulp, and wastewater. Cassava waste is usually discarded or used as animal feed, but it has a lot of potential for value-added products in various sectors.
Energy Sector Biofuel: Cassava waste can be converted into biofuel, such as ethanol, butanol, methanol, and biogas, through biochemical or thermochemical processes. Biofuel can be used as a renewable and clean source of energy for transportation, cooking, and electricity generation. Biomass: Cassava waste can also be used as biomass, which is the organic matter that can be burned or gasified to produce heat and power. Biomass can be a low-cost and environmentally friendly alternative to fossil fuels.
Environmental Sector Adsorbents: Cassava waste can be used as adsorbents, which are materials that can remove pollutants from water or air by binding them to their surface. Adsorbents can be used for wastewater treatment, air purification, and oil spill remediation. Bioplastics: Cassava waste can be used as bioplastics, which are plastics that are derived from renewable biological sources. Bioplastics can be biodegradable, compostable, or recyclable, and can reduce the dependence on petroleum-based plastics.
Food and Health Sector Starch Nanoparticles: Cassava waste can be used as starch nanoparticles, which are tiny particles of starch that have unique properties such as high stability, solubility, and biocompatibility. Starch nanoparticles can be used as food additives, drug delivery systems, and wound dressing materials. Organic Acids: Cassava waste can be used as organic acids, which are acids that contain carbon and have various industrial and biological applications. Organic acids can be used as food preservatives, flavor enhancers, pH regulators, and antimicrobial agents.
Cassava waste is a valuable resource that can be transformed into various products that have economic, social, and environmental benefits. Cassava waste can contribute to the sustainable development of different sectors and industries.
Conclusion
The cassava processing industry holds great potential for trade and is a potential catalyst for economic development in the developing countries. By closing the demand gap locally, top cassava producers can reduce import of cassava derivatives and its adverse effects on their local currencies.
In conclusion, the by-products of cassava offer significant business opportunities for agribusiness firms. By harnessing these opportunities, we can drive agricultural transformation, generate income, create jobs, and contribute to food security in the developing countries. The future of cassava in agribusiness is bright, and it’s time we tapped into its potential.
