Lonely Mountain = Armenia

I have a take to make: Armenian culture is very similar to how I would imagine the culture of the Dwarves of Lonely Mountain.

When you think of the halls of Erebor, images of grand stone halls, intricate metalwork, and proud, resilient people come to mind.

Interestingly, this mental imagery resembles Armenia, a rich and ancient civilization in the Southern (that is important - Armenians are not Caucausians per se, like Georgians and/or Dagestanians) Caucasus region. From the stone-borne proud spirit of the Armenian people to their architecture and traditional clothing, there are fascinating parallels between the two cultures, real and fictional.

1. Architecture: Stone, Fortresses, and Underground Structures

The Dwarves of Erebor are renowned for their skill in mining and stonework, creating vast underground cities with intricate carvings and fortifications. The Revolutionary Paintings of Jean-Michel Basquiat

There is something particularly poignant to me, as well as being a perfect example of fame exploiting creatives, regarding the story of the groundbreaking, African-American neo-artist, Jean-Michel Basquiat. 

The man who produced these mysterious paintings consisting of scratches and scribbles of colour, strange diagrams, various words, letters and numbers meticulously placed in a constellation of imagery would be unlike anything the art world had yet seen. And most importantly, they would unveil a huge social flaw that up until his time, was not yet discussed or resolved in the art world as well. 

In a community that seemingly still clung onto the influence of caucausian European history and lore, by the 1980s Jean-Michel would in the most creative ways possible, implement his both his Porteguese and Haitian roots into his work, in an admirable effort to at last allow black culture to become part of art history.

Although his legacy now has been globally influential more than possibly Jean-Michel would have imagined, his life before his eventual untimely death, aged just 27, would be nothing short of heartbreaking. 

Although he obtained all the fame and money he could have dreamed of, it would still not be enough to achieve the one thing he wanted above all else, which was for people to accept him. 

Although his fascinating career was sadly brief, his whole story shines an invaluable light on how sensationalism can truly exploit the vulnerable, and how irrefutably difficult it would be for a young talent in the 1980s to prove his significance and overturn misconceptions of him, simply based on his background and the colour of his skin. I think more people, outside of the United States, need to realize that these things like White Privilege and Toxic Masculinity, are not just poorly constructed and broad brush because they are American.

If you take them to their natural, logical conclusion and find yourself trying to give the creators the benefit of the doubt, because surely they can't mean you, or people like you, because clearly it must just be Americans thinking everything is America or not thinking about people outside of it, then congratulations. You've just blinded yourself to the creator's true meaning and intention.

Believe it or not, it's a far more nuanced issue everywhere, including America, than this disgusting absolutist theory allows to be nuanced. According to white privilege theory, just being a white person in the United States endows you, absolutely, with an advantage that no person of any other background can possibly have.

You cannot empirically apply that to any metric, however. Even when you try and calculate the differences in how often a person of color is stopped by police, or brutalized, or killed, you find statistically speaking that the numbers per capita are roughly equal between white people (the supposed benefactors of default white supremacist privilege by a white supremacist society and a white supremacist government) and black.

And when you try to apply those metrics to East Asians in the United States, suddenly you find according to privilege theory, we must live in an Asian Supremacy, as East Asians have the smallest representation in prison, police brutality, the most representation in college and the highest income per demographic. According to all the metrics they usually wheel out to show the disparity between black, non-Hispanic whites and Hispanic whites and Asians, you'd have to assume this country favors Asians the most, by a long shot.

And it doesn't, because the statistics they're using don't demonstrate white supremacism or white favoritism, but they try to insist that they do.

Also, laying bare how White Privilege ACTUALLY works, it is NOT the term to describe the idea that the average white person has more generational wealth, in previous decades assumed stolen or built off the backs of slave labor. Privilege Theory posits that the United States, regardless of what the laws says, regardless of how it's interpreted, is white supremacist solely because it hasa white majority, and because they insist whites use capitalism to oppress the world. They insist that capitalism is white supremacist and that white supremacism is capitalism, and anything capitalist is just by virtue of being capitalism, white supremacist.

They also argue that Majorities/Oppressors can never, under any circumstances, be considered oppressed or a minority, if they're white.

So you may be a Slav, Italian, Celt or Caucausian (from the Caucus region.) It means absolute dick. It doesn't matter if you're the whitest redhead in Ireland, or you're a white dude in South Africa, or Japan. You could be the victim of a group of bigots trying to kill you for being white, and it wouldn't be considered a hate crime the way it would, to privilege theorists, if a black man was the subject of that lynching. Why? "Because of white supremacy (global) and capitalism (global.)"

So even being a minority on earth, according to privilee theory, a white person can NEVER be considered oppressed, or a minority, even when their society is black or Asian majority. So long as Europe and its former colonies are still wealthy and industrialized, they believe all white people share the category of Oppressor, and therefore cannot themselves be considered the victims of hate crimes or oppression.

In fact, also given the way they define and validate indivisible minorities by demographic and ethnic group, they also argue that there's no such thing as a white person and argue there's no legitimacy to a European the way one would think of an Asian or Black person.

They'll recognize Black as a demographic, Asian as a demographic, and demand they get legal and political representation for their groups. And they'll recognize different demographics have sub-communities that deserve recognition and representation, on the basis of their Black and Asianness.

They will not validate a group on the basis of whiteness, nor will they see the whiteness as any sort of identifier or qualifier to the sub-categories of European by ethnic group, for they rebuke the idea Europe has those for the purposes of representation by group. They argue the same courtesy they extend to "real people", IE, black and Asian people, does not apply to whites, and you cannot define Englishness by whiteness, but you can define Koreanness by ethnicity.

If this all sounds utterly horrific, then wait until you learn that they did not stutter when it came to the idea of white as a majority as an inherent problem, on the basis that whiteness itself is a problem, and they confidently say so citing, "white supremacy." They argue unless a white majority community takes steps to bring other races and ethnic groups to population parity with themselves, on their own money, then they're deliberately conspiring to white supremacy.

Asian and black majority societies, for some reason, are not subject to this standard of what makes one considered a horrible ethnosupremacist. But just having a white majority AT ALL, regardless of former colony or native Europe, is considered complacency with white supremacy.

They also do not distinguish between Slavs and Western Europeans. The same as they do not distinguish between states of the United States that came into existence as Free States, and Slave States. Just being white and just being the United States is enough to attribute white supremacism to it and everything it does, just on the basis of it NOT having dismantled itself and reconstituted in the name of something else to "cleanse" it of this invisible motivational taint. To these people, Moscovites are as guilty of what England and the Netherlands did, as England and the Netherlands are responsible for Russia conquering further East.

And this disgusting policy is not a result of oversight, ignorance of geography or history. This is just how they see white people, Europeans, and culpability "for the world under capitalism." And you cannot halfass this. Privilege Theory is, was and has always been a way to bring the subject of racism and bigotry under the umbrella of more Marxist lenses of defining and analyzing prejudices and oppression. You can't pick and choose what parts you like, undersell others. By even using the term and entertaining the concepts, you trojan horse all the dogma of it in.

So don't unironically use the terms.

I think Americans in particular really need to understand that the concept of white privilege as it works in US society and politics is not one that can be universally applied.

As just one small example, try telling a Slav living here in the UK that in the midst of the constant media and public onslaught of xenophobia against Eastern Europeans (and let me tell you, it is *constant*) that they possess white privilege, they would likely laugh in your face.

And that's not even touching the entirely conditional status of 'white' given to white passing Jews, who are white when it's convenient to paint them as oppressors in leftist's coloniser fantasies and then relegated to 'lesser' status by white supremacists.

It's a far more nuanced issue in most of the world than "white vs. everyone else."
