Gabrielle Coleman | Family
Elijah Coleman | Father | Danny Sapani | b. 1952 - d. 1992
Sheila Bryant | Mother | Angela Bassett | b. 1956
Joseph Bryant | Step-father | Clarke Peters | b. 1952
Elijah “Eli” Coleman (Father)
Eli Coleman was a reporter for the Charlotte Observer from the time he was 24 years old - the very year Gabrielle was born. He was always a source of warmth and doted on his small family, working hard to support them. He always seemed to be writing - smoking a cigarette while scratching observations onto any scrap of paper he could find. He imbued a passion for change and a love of community into his only daughter. He died at the age of just 40 years old after an unexpected heart attack one night.
While he was alive, Gabrielle adored her father. He was the picture of what a father should be - guiding and caring, loving her unconditionally. She misses him a great deal to this day, wondering how he would feel about his little girl who grew up to break down barriers. His loss left a hole in her life that was difficult to fill, but she does as much as she can to make him proud.
----
Sheila Bryant (Mother)
Sheila (nee Walker) is a Charlotte native. She is a strong woman - bold and loving, friendly and straightforward. She’s never afraid to tell it like it is. Having worked as a waitress for much of her life, Sheila instilled a sense of hard work in her daughter from a young age. She’s a fixture in one of the neighborhood’s local cafes - a favorite among her patrons. Widowed at only 40, Sheila struggled with deep grief that she tried to drown in alcohol. The problem cost her several years of her life and could have done far worse had she not fought as hard as she did to sober up. It gave her a deeper appreciation for her life. She’s only remarried in the last few years to Joseph “Joe” Bryant, another widower, and they live together in Sheila’s home in Charlotte.
Gabrielle and her mother are extraordinarily close. They speak often and Gabrielle relies on her mother’s advice to get through tough times. It doesn’t mean their relationship hasn’t been strained. After her father’s death, Gabrielle had to care for her mother as the woman sank into alcoholism and depression. Even though her mother has been clean and sober for years, Gabrielle frequently worries about her and also fears falling into the same trap - hence her own aversion to drinking. She loves her mother and would do anything for her in a heartbeat, but it’s not without challenges.
----
Joseph “Joe” Bryant (Stepfather)
Joe is Gabrielle’s stepfather, but she doesn’t know him overly well - despite the shared relation with her mother, they haven’t spent all that much time together. He’s rough around the edges and when they are together, they don’t always see eye to eye. But they do bond over their shared care for her mother, and try to “play nice” as it were, to please her.
---
Bonus:
Tumblr media
Spot | b. 2016
Spot is Gabrielle’s pet dog, who she adopted after Theresa’s passing a few months ago. While initially against the idea of having a pet, she’s come to be quite attached to the Australian Shepherd, and he’s done a great deal to help her come to terms with her grief.

NAME: Adam Connelly AGE IN AU: 22 OCCUPATION: First year J.D. student at Harvard Law School MARITAL STATUS: Single LIVING ARRANGEMENT: Has an apartment near Cambridge, MA - currently staying in the Connelly house in McLean, VA
THE YEAR IS 2009. WHAT WAS YOUR CHARACTER LIKE BACK THEN?
Adam is twenty-three years old, and has just started his second of three years in law school. He’s got a focus on Constitutional law, because he decided he really wants to get into politics. Bright-eyed and naive, he’s never held any elected office yet, so there’s definitely still a bit of a haze over his views of that profession.
He’s wealthy, young, and attractive - he’s pretty much got the world at his feet while he’s at school, and he’s popular. He spends quite a bit of time with friends like Sybil Buchanan and George Taylor (as well as George’s younger sister, Elise, who he’s certain has something of a crush on him.)
He’s just starting to clean up his act after four years in undergrad where reckless behavior was the consequence of his newfound freedom from his family. He’s coming into his own - doing surprisingly well now that he’s into his second semester.
Adam is currently single - his last relationship with a girl from the law program ended last spring, and he’s more relieved about that than anything.
He’s currently in Washington to try and work some of his family’s connections for to get his foot in the door with either Congress or the Supreme Court.
He absolutely hates being at home with his parents again, but for the moment, it’s a necessity for now. He does at least get to see his sister and old friends, so it’s not entirely terrible, as long as he can avoid having to talk to his father..

Adam Connelly | A Day in the Life
Friday, October 11, 2019
All of Adam’s work days are fairly similar and straightforward - a lot of meetings, a lot of socializing and fundraising. All the times are, of course, approximate. This is just a pretty general overview and doesn’t account for the little day to day things - smoke breaks and things of that nature.
5:45 AM, Georgetown - Adam’s alarm is set for the same time everyday (having a routine keeps him honest, in his mind). He takes his time in getting up and shaking off sleep.
6:00 AM, Georgetown - If he has the time and weather’s good, he goes out running around his neighborhood. Headphones in, this is personal time. If time or weather are not on his side, he might take a trip to the gym or just forego the workout altogether. (No one is perfect, after all, and sometimes it’s nice to sleep in a little longer.)
7:00 AM, Georgetown - Back home for a shower, shave, suit and tie. Heads out and grabs coffee and probably some kind of pastry or bagel on the way to his office.
8:00 AM, Longworth House Office Building (LHOB) - First arrives at his office. Most days begin with a briefing with his staff. Especially spends time with his Chief of Staff and Legislative Director. Any other early meetings he needs to attend.
9:00 AM, Rayburn House Office Building - House Judiciary Committee Markup begins on a number of House Resolutions. These can be lengthy, but today, the markup ends around 10:45 AM.
11:15 AM, LHOB - Meetings with constituent groups. Many come in person, especially since his district is just across the river from D.C.
1:00 PM, LHOB - Lunch - but it’s a working lunch, of course. Can’t afford to waste any time! Working on polishing legislation, though he takes some time to take a call from his father (no matter how little he wants to).
2:00 PM, Capitol Hill - More meetings in the afternoon. He meets with donors, Republican party officials, etc. Whoever needs him, he’s there.
4:00 PM, Capitol Hill - Donor call time, usually conducted from one of the Congressional call centers. Probably his least favorite part of the job, but a necessity.
7:00 PM, Hawthorne Bar and Restaurant - After taking a little time to refresh, he’s off to a fundraising dinner. He chats up other Republican figures, familiar faces and less familiar ones. It’s all about the connections, and he stands out in that regard.
9:30 PM, Downtown - It’s Friday night, so he can sleep in tomorrow. This also means he’s free to spend his night as he chooses, so he’s over at Hans’s apartment. They talk a little, have a few drinks, and then he spends the rest of the night there. Falls asleep there.

William Bell | Family
John Bell | Father | Michael Caine | b. 1938
Barbara Bell | Mother | Diana Rigg | b. 1941
Dr. Donna (Bell) Freeman | Sister | Lesley Manville | b. 1965
Lisa (Bell) Rankin | Sister | Connie Britton | b. 1967
(For info on Will’s wife and children, see this post)
John Bell (father)
John Bell - sometimes called Jack - worked in the office of a Milwaukee factory. Not glamourous, but neither is he. He never had much real ambition, content to just live for the day to day and act as the family patriarch and breadwinner. Now well into his retirement, John Bell is a quiet man with simple pleasures  - playing chess or working around the house. He doesn’t get out all that much - at 81, he still more or less has his health, though age is taking its toll on him.
He and William aren’t precisely close. They talk every so often on the phone. He’s proud of what his son has achieved, as most good fathers would be, but he’s also not incredibly keen on all the attention the presidential campaign is bringing to his family. Will learned many of his views (and his prejudices) from his father.
----
Barbara Bell (mother)
While her children were growing up, Barbara was the picture of a model wife and mother. Cooking meals, doing laundry, and raising the children was simply what was expected of her, and raised by staunch Catholic parents, she never entirely questioned her role. Not much interested in that “women’s lib nonsense” (as she would call it). Meek and mild to a fault, Barbara was never really able to pursue any dreams of her own, though she showed talents at art that she certainly could have capitalized on. She is warm and caring, especially toward her children and grandchildren, even though most of them are grown now.
William is far more indulgent and doting with his mother than with his father. On the (admittedly rare) occasions he goes home to Milwaukee, he sets aside time to spend with her. In the past ten years or so she’s had health scares that cause him worry, but thus far has a clean bill of health. She too is proud of her son’s accomplishments in life and was one of the first beyond Cindy to support his presidential aspirations.
----
Dr. Donna (Bell) Freeman (sister)
Donna Bell suffered the plight of the middle child - low expectations that she was determined to prove wrong, wanting to stand out. While her brother climbed the military ranks, she set her sights on medical school, working to scrimp and save and get scholarships to get her through. She moved to St. Louis, where she earned her M.D. in the early 1990s. She married a classmate, Richard Freeman, in 1992, and the two still live in St. Louis, working in the same hospital - Donna as a general practitioner and Richard as a cardiologist. Focused and serious, Donna keeps her focus on her work, having opted to have no children.
Though they often worked out their differences as children, Donna and William do not get along whatsoever as adults. She finds her older brother’s politics to be archaic, and he finds her to be too stubborn to deal with. They rarely talk, and she especially wants nothing to do with him or his political career, declining to ever publicly comment on her brother’s campaign. More or less, Donna is the black sheep, but she doesn’t really care to change that any time soon.
----
Lisa (Bell) Rankin (sister)
Lisa was the youngest - by all accounts, a surprise to her parents, who had only ever planned for two children. Fiery and headstrong, she went her own way, which often got her into trouble, both with her family and with others. She met Jonathan Rankin in 1985, her senior year of high school, and when she ended up pregnant, she eloped with him and the pair moved to Chicago. It was a relationship doomed to failure no matter how hard they tried to make it work, and they divorced in 2000. Lisa took her son Jacob and moved back to Milwaukee, where she had another string of failed relationships. At the moment, she lives with her latest boyfriend and works for the Postal Service in Milwaukee. Jacob, now 33, lives close by with his wife and daughter, who Lisa frequently goes to visit.
William always had a protective streak for his younger sister, and has been frequently known to take pity on her and bail her out of bad situations, financial or otherwise, when he has the means to. He’s tried more than once to get her to find better paths in life, but she’s always been headstrong (a trait among the family, it would seem) and rebuffed him in favor of her own opportunities.

* Disclaimer: Use of Admiral Bell’s military rank, job titles, and photographs in uniform does not imply endorsement by the Department of the Navy or the Department of Defense.
— A list of issues/proposals
Abortion. Pro-life, with exceptions in cases of rape or incest. No government funds to organizations that support or perform abortion.
Death penalty. Supports the death penalty as punishment for violent crimes such as murder.
Education. Aims to support America’s K-12 schools and teachers, with particular focus on helping schools attended by children of middle-class and low-income families. Against the provision of free college tuition.
Employment. Vows to keep American jobs in America and reduce the movement of jobs overseas. Supports drug testing for recipients of welfare and stricter monitoring of welfare abuse. Supports raising the federal minimum wage.

National security. In favor of the increase of use of military force, citing national defense, particularly against terrorist groups such as the Islamic State.
Taxation. Supports increasing taxation of the wealthy in order to better meet the needs of the American people. Promises a tax break for working Americans.
Veterans. Pro-reform of the healthcare system for veterans and families. Supports better funding for veteran’s groups and benefits.
— Please specify their target voter audience [age, ethnicity, region, income, etc]
Bell’s target audience includes a focus on middle and working class families - his father was a factory worker, and this is something he never fails to bring to attention when trying to make himself more relatable to the people and assure them he has their interests at heart. His supporters at the current moment are like Baby Boomers, particularly white Boomers, but he targets conservatives across the spectrum of age and race. He also makes a special note to focus his appeals to the heartland (citing his Milwaukee upbringing) and veterans across the board.
— What do their supporters love and believe in when it comes to their persona and campaign? AKA. What’s people’s reasoning for voting for your character?
William Bell is the tried and true model of the white male conservative that has been the stalwart of American politics for generations. He places real focus on the issues that affect "real” (read: white, middle-class) Americans, and most importantly to both Bell and the people that would support him: he isn’t a career politician like almost all of the opposing candidates. With over 25 years of service in the Navy, Bell’s supporters believe he has America’s best interests at heart, and that he can maintain that without being part of the corrupt political system that has placed in America in its current, divided position. He has strong leadership potential, as seen from his current position at the head of the Navy, and a blunt, no-nonsense attitude that has an appeal to those tired of political wheeling and dealing.
— What does the opposition hate when it comes to their persona and campaign? AKA. What points are brought up when trying to convince others your character isn’t a good choice for the seat?
Where to start? It’s been said already - Bell isn’t exactly the most personable of the candidates. At best, he’s charmless; at worst, he comes off as downright cold. The exact same position that makes him marketable as “not a career politician” means he has very little experience in politics outside of his position on the Joint Chiefs of Staff, which is only a fraction of the work required to run the country. He also comes across, at the very least, as outdated on social issues and many of his other positions, and even if he’s not stupid enough to say it in certain terms, there’s no denying he’s bigoted when it comes to issues that affect people of color and immigrants. For most outside his target audience, he’s far from being even a palatable candidate.

Adam Connelly | Residence Aesthetic
Adam’s apartment is one that entirely fits him - a one bedroom apartment in the conservative area of Georgetown that’s clearly well-lived in, but obviously one that only someone with his wealth and privilege could afford to pay for. The walls and shelves bear personal items - family photographs, his diplomas (except his J.D., which he hangs in his Congressional office) and pieces of art. He has a ton of books, many of which relate to the law, but some are just personal favorites. Many of the books, along with papers and his computer, can frequently be found strewn across his dining table, signs of a man who’s frequently got work on his mind. He generally keeps the place tidy beyond that, if only because he’s very rarely there. His bedroom probably sees the most use, but it’s also probably the least complex room in the house, with just a king-sized bed (necessary even if he’s a bachelor, because his height won’t allow for anything else) and a nightstand, lamp, and the closet and dresser for his clothes. Overall, he’s used to a homey environment, and that’s reflected in how he’s settled into the apartment where he’s spent almost two years now.

Gabrielle Coleman | WH Correspondent’s Dinner
The Correspondent’s Dinner is probably the last place Gabrielle wants to be, but she’s determined to make it work. Her outfit was chosen for her, but she has personal touches - not least of all the ring Theresa gave her years ago still displayed on her finger.

MBTI - ISFJ Moral Alignment - Neutral Good Enneagram - Type 2 Temperament - Melancholic TV Tropes - Black Boss Lady; Girl Friday; Love Hurts; Secret Relationship; Undying Loyalty
(details below the cut)
MBTI | ISFJ - The Defender or The Nurturer (x & x)
Defender personalities are a wonderful group, rarely sitting idle while a worthy cause remains unfinished. Defenders’ ability to connect with others on an intimate level is unrivaled among Introverts, and the joy they experience in using those connections to maintain a supportive, happy family is a gift for everyone involved. They may never be truly comfortable in the spotlight, and may feel guilty taking due credit for team efforts, but if they can ensure that their efforts are recognized, Defenders are likely to feel a level of satisfaction in what they do that many other personality types can only dream of.
---
The ISFJ is warm, generous, and dependable. They have many special gifts to offer, in their sensitivity to others, and their strong ability to keep things running smoothly. They need to remember to not be overly critical of themselves, and to give themselves some of the warmth and love which they freely dispense to others.
Moral Alignment | Neutral Good (x)
A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them.
---
These characters value life and freedom above all else, and despise those who would deprive others of them. Neutral good characters sometimes find themselves forced to work beyond the law, yet for the law, and the greater good of the people. They are not vicious or vindictive, but are people driven to right injustice. Neutral good characters always attempt to work within the law whenever possible, however.
Enneagram | Type 2 - The Helper (x)
Twos are empathetic, sincere, and warm-hearted. They are friendly, generous, and self-sacrificing, but can also be sentimental, flattering, and people-pleasing. They are well-meaning and driven to be close to others, but can slip into doing things for others in order to be needed. They typically have problems with possessiveness and with acknowledging their own needs.
Temperament | Melancholic (x)
They hold themselves and others to unrealistically high standards, and get distressed when these standards are not met. This leads to them being self-deprecating - because they do not meet their own standards...
---
They are very stubborn, because they try very hard to stick to their own carefully considered views and standards of perfection, and are not easily shifted from this path. They do not go with the flow.
They are tenacious and cannot let things go, because 'good enough' is not good enough.
TV Tropes
Black Boss Lady - The Black Boss Lady is characterized by being a Twofer Token Minority, both a woman and Black, in charge of probably mostly men in a stereotypically male profession. Right there, you know she's a badass because she must be so good at her job, that even any discrimination which might have been in her way due to either her gender or race was bulldozed flat in two-point-five seconds by her incredible competence.Because the Black Boss Lady is good, or she wouldn't be where she is today. She's not afraid to take some risk if there is a decent chance of a worthwhile pay off. She presides over her organization with an iron fist, but she's also a Reasonable Authority Figure....
Girl Friday -  The faithful female servant. She's not an Action Girl on the surface, but neither is she a Damsel in Distress; her main job is to help out The Hero (usually her boss) at critical junctures. Sometimes she provides critical information, other times it's just a helping hand or heart, sometimes with a side of Unresolved Sexual Tension. Don't presume the Girl Friday can't fight, however — she can still kick plenty of ass, sometimes turning into a full-fledged Battle Butler.
Love Hurts -  Forget life-threatening superheroism, acting Too Dumb to Live, and Tempting Fate. The dumbest, most insane and dangerous thing any hero can do in any media is... falling in love. Dare to love someone else and you set up yourself and your beloved for a plethora of emotional griefs....  About to commit permanently? Look for an Anyone Can Die to put a permanent end to the Will They or Won't They? issue. Forget to say goodbye to your beloved that one time? It'll haunt you for the rest of your life.
Secret Relationship -  Two characters suddenly wind up in a relationship together and decide to keep it a secret from everyone. The reason can be perfectly solid, e.g. one of them is the other's boss...
Undying Loyalty - When given to a Sidekick, expect it to be an unselfish willingness to support the main character. It can also be given to friends who, despite their differences, are genuinely fond of the other, and bonus points if it works both ways.Should the object of this loyalty die, expect generous helpings of Due to the Dead as the loyal one works to honor the fallen one's memory.

— What’s your character’s idea of a perfect future? What do they want to do? Where do they dream of ending up, in a perfect world? Are they still in politics? If so, what position? How is their personal life? Where are they living, what are they doing? Why is this their perfect outcome?
For fifteen years, Gabrielle’s idea of a perfect future was wrapped up in Theresa Wright. Theresa would finish her time as President, and they would finally leave politics behind. With any worry about her political reputation behind them, they would finally get to betogether. They would marry - something small and private, but there. In her perfect future, they would adopt, perhaps a daughter, and live out the rest of their lives in Charlotte or Raleigh. Their lives would never be what they had been before the Presidency, but she wouldn’t mind - she would be content to serve as a role model for her daughter and for young Black girls in the world. She might return to do something locally in North Carolina - fight gun violence and poverty. They would grow old together, watch their daughter grow up, and spend all the time together they could. They would have long, full lives.
— In contrast, what do you, as a writer, see actually happening? Is it the same? If not, how does it differ from your character’s dream, and why do you see things going this way instead?
Gabrielle’s idea of a perfect future died and was buried with Theresa. There’s no knowing what any sort of future for her without Theresa looks like - after fifteen years together, life without her feels like uncharted territory.
But Gabrielle Coleman is a survivor. She can make her own destiny with time. She’ll mourn Theresa for a while, to be sure, but eventually she will pick up and move on. She’ll likely stay at the White House for a while, helping Julian through the transition period into his Presidency. But from then on, it’s a blank canvas. I think it’s likely she will carry out some of her dreams. She’ll do her best to have a positive impact on the world in whatever way opens up to her. She’ll be Theresa’s biggest champion in death just as she was in life, defending her from anyone who might try to damage her reputation. She’d still certainly like to foster or adopt a child, be a mother. She’ll probably eventually move back to North Carolina and be with her family, and maybe get back into social work or local politics like she was before. She might even, in time, open her heart again, and find someone to love.
If anything, she’s learned now that the future is unpredictable. Nothing is promised - so the most likely prediction for Gabrielle’s future is that she’s just going to take it one day at a time.

MBTI - ESFJ Moral Alignment - Lawful Neutral Enneagram - Type 1 Temperament - Phlegmatic TV Tropes - Armoured Closet Gay; Family Honor; Follow In My Footsteps; Out of the Closet, Into the Fire; Sheltered Aristocrat
(details below the cut)
MBTI | ESFJ - The Consul or The Caregiver (x & x)
ESFJs are people persons - they love people. They are warmly interested in others. They use their Sensing and Judging characteristics to gather specific, detailed information about others, and turn this information into supportive judgments. They want to like people, and have a special skill at bringing out the best in others. They are extremely good at reading others, and understanding their point of view. The ESFJ's strong desire to be liked and for everything to be pleasant makes them highly supportive of others. People like to be around ESFJs, because the ESFJ has a special gift of invariably making people feel good about themselves.
The ESFJ takes their responsibilities very seriously, and is very dependable. They value security and stability, and have a strong focus on the details of life. They see before others do what needs to be done, and do whatever it takes to make sure that it gets done. They enjoy these types of tasks, and are extremely good at them.
---
ESFJs respect and believe in the laws and rules of authority, and believe that others should do so as well. They're traditional, and prefer to do things in the established way, rather than venturing into unchartered territory. Their need for security drives their ready acceptance and adherence to the policies of the established system. This tendency may cause them to sometimes blindly accept rules without questioning or understanding them.
An ESFJ who has developed in a less than ideal way may be prone to being quite insecure, and focus all of their attention on pleasing others.
Moral Alignment | Lawful Neutral (x)
A lawful neutral being...
Respects the authority figures in his family and obeys their mandates.
Values lifelong commitment to a romantic partner.
Obeys all personal contracts.
Respects the laws and authority figures of the community and nation.
Considers public service in a leadership role an honor.
Supports the legal procedures of the nation, without regard to their own discomfort.
Seeks secure employment, believing hard work will pay off in the end.
Will not aid family members in need if personal discomfort is required.
Will not betray a family member.
Has few close friends and would never betray those he has.
Is generally well liked by his community, but normally will not seek to improve the community.
Will support his nation when profitable to do so, but will not act against his nation if profitable.
Believes people deserve the treatment they are willing to endure.
Is not concerned with those less fortunate.
Will not harm others for profit.
Enneagram | Type 1 - The Reformer (x)
Ones are conscientious and ethical, with a strong sense of right and wrong. They are teachers, crusaders, and advocates for change: always striving to improve things, but afraid of making a mistake. Well-organized, orderly, and fastidious, they try to maintain high standards, but can slip into being critical and perfectionistic. They typically have problems with resentment and impatience
Basic Fear: Of being corrupt/evil, defective Basic Desire: To be good, to have integrity, to be balanced
Temperament | Phlegmatic (x)
Phlegmatics do not act as if they are better than others. They are eager to please, and quick to give in to others rather than asserting their own desires as if they're the most important.
They take the path of least resistance whenever possible.
---
They are well-behaved; rebelling against established rules would feel deeply uncomfortable to them. They're the sort who'd say, worriedly, 'should we really be doing this?' or 'we might get in trouble!'.
---
They are natural followers, and work best when they are told what to do.
TV Tropes
Armoured Closet Gay -  AKA Haggard's Law, or the Law of Inverse Homosexuality: The more vocally opposed a person is to homosexuality, the more likely they are to be gay themself and closeted about it.
Family Honor -  Family honor is the feeling or pride a person has for their own family or clan, whether because of a unique family history, the achievements of ancestors, the elevated social status of their family, or because of some cultural aspect of their homeland that places a strong emphasis on associating personal identity with family identity. Central to the idea of family honor is that the actions of one member reflect on the reputation of the entire family, and the reputation of the entire family reflects on the individual member.
Follow in My Footsteps -  Parents often want the best for their children. It's only natural. Unfortunately, some parents take this to the conclusion that "whatever worked for me will work for my kids — end of discussion" — so the kid will find themselves being groomed and press-ganged into stepping into their parent's shoes, whether they particularly want to or not. This is particularly the case if the steps in question lead to the Family Business, and especially if the parent is a Self-Made Man (or woman).
Out of the Closet, Into the Fire - An LGBT character chooses to come out, or is Forcibly Outed, from their figurative closet and is harmed or dies. The world is not a nice place, and once it is revealed they are LGBT+, things go badly wrong. For this trope, once a character has come out they become a Cosmic Plaything, facing hardships from the natural world because they have dared to vocalize being queer. They have stepped into the line of fire, being persecuted by the god of the story, for coming out. Alternatively, if they've been out but "inactive", once they enter a relationship or decide to transition, etc., they will experience this harm or death then.
Sheltered Aristocrat - The Sheltered Aristocrat is a character who has lived a life sheltered from the everyday trivialities which the lower classes have to contend with. In this way he is pure and untainted by the hardships of the outside world. This results in a certain naivety and ignorance, despite the numerous tutors he's no doubt had all his life. When he is finally exposed to the outside world, it becomes apparent that the character is out of his depth. He doesn't realize how difficult and dangerous life outside his palace really is, and as a result he is a Horrible Judge of Character, easily duped by conmen and stolen from by thieves. Often he thinks he can talk his way out of confrontations, or throw money at any problem, and generally doesn't recognize, at least initially, that bad things could actually happen to himout in the real world.
