how did artemis come to be? ik this is a random question lol but i wanna know what particularly inspired you to make them?

this is great question! this is lowkey a bit of nukes lore also, hahaha.

so back in spring 2021, i made a really short 15-minute cryptid dating sim for a group project in a game design class. that game had two love interests: mothman and bigfoot. our professor really liked the game, invited us to do an independent study with her in the fall, and i took her up on it. i ended up working on cryptid coffeehouse during that independent study.

when building cryptid coffeehouse, i really liked the mothman character my groupmates and i made. they were named indrid and were this charming, eclectic type of person that i was really interested in developing more. i ended up designing a new version of them because i felt like using indrid's design wouldn't work for what i wanted. i switched out the name too, mostly because there are already too many mothman characters named indrid hahaha. i wanted to pick a different androgynous name and settled on artemis... i would be lying if i said the choice wasn't heavily inspired by artemis fowl.

anyways, artemis as a character started to develop from there. the aspects of their personality and such were written as i was creating the game.

here's the visual development of artemis' design :-) first is indrid from 2021, artemis' design from 2021-2022, then artemis' current design from 2023 onwards. lowkey i've changed aspects of their design up until now hahaha but it's all small enough that it doesn't matter too much.

i think it's worth noting that i incorporated several of the design decisions i made with indrid into artemis' dad, gavin. i thought it would be cute homage to their first culmination ^_^

yes they do! artemis is the type to post 10 image slideshows on flashpic with huge big long captions about how much they treasure and adore you. they'll also post you frequently... they take a lot of pictures of you (and of you two together) and like to post them on their socials. if they haven't posted you at least once in the week, they've fallen deathly ill.

kurou is a bit more reserved in this regard, as he doesn't post much and he's not as loud about his love life as artemis is. on days significant to your relationship (birthdays, anniversaries, valentines day, etc), he'll post you, but it will often be either (a) a candid photo of you where you're not looking at the camera, (b) something cute of the two of you that one of your friends probably took, or (c) a sexy pic of the both of you with your faces cropped out. he'll just put like a heart emoji over the middle of these pics and call it a day lmfao (but if i'm honest this is basically the equivalent of him baring his soul in a caption). lowkey though because he doesn't post very much at all, most of the few pictures he does post will be of you. kind of cute, no?

artemis loves finding clothes that you left behind, hahaha. they do really like the smell of you, so they would keep it for a bit without you knowing to do a lil sniffing LOLLL since they're taller than you (at least written to be so), your clothes aren't often their size unless you wear oversized/larger sizes. they would definitely wear your clothes to bed if they fit well though. but one thing— because of their wings, all of their shirts are modified to accommodate them. so they might not be able to wear your clothes unless you also had wings or if you had specifically gotten them altered so that the two of you could share.

kurou, on the other hand, sort of takes ownership of any clothes you leave behind and then acts like they belong to him even though they definitely do not. you'll come over and he'll be in a shirt that you left in his bedroom one month prior, one that you've been looking for all that time, acting like it's totally normal. you'll be like, "that's my shirt," and he'll be like, "okay? so?" you have to be careful not to leave clothing items that you like a lot at his house because he'll start incorporating them into his daily wardrobe if he finds them lol

yes! artemis especially. they’re kind of a totally disgusting lovestricken sap, so they’ll listen to any sort of song and be like ahhh that reminds me of my partner siiighhhh <333 but i would like to believe that the song that they wrote for you and performed at the system five concert would be very significant for your relationship. it means a lot to them in particular because it’s the first love song they’ve written for someone in such a long time. i think you should feel proud of it— artemis has written love songs before, but never performed them out. they really wanted you to see this song this time. you make them feel so different, like they never have before :’)

from this interaction, you can't really tell that they feel so negatively about being married, especially because they seem to imply that they'll want to be engaged to you eventually. that's not actually what they mean... sorry to break everyone's hearts on this. i'll explain a little more!

their feelings about marriage are so incredibly complicated, and one could say that the root of their negative feelings about it is the fact that they're scared of it. i would say that they have some mild-to-moderate commitment issues, which they do talk to you about, notably in the context of their weird feelings about having a steady job ("it's not like i don't like commitment or anything! but i don't like too much commitment. just a little. the right amount."). they don't tend to have strong commitment issues in romantic relationships, but after being burned really badly by their last relationship with albie, someone they thought that they were going to be with for soooo long, they're really on edge about this stuff. like, what if they marry someone and that relationship falls apart after they go through this whole performance of an engagement, a wedding, a marriage, and then they have to go through this whole exercise of getting a divorce... it's so much easier to just break up if something goes wrong. and by god, is artemis terrified of something going wrong. i think they're convinced that their relationships are always going to go wrong, particularly due to something that's wrong with them. it's a lot. they already had some issues like this prior to their relationship with albie, but the fallout of that relationship has increased them tenfold.
