hello everyone. ummm. my star trek ocs. the crew of the uss hawking (shitty ship that gets put on all the worst missions and gets all the leftover people)......... character descs under cut.....
(lined up in very top image from left to right)
Ensign Morris (he/him, Chief Engineer... somehow) - an amicable old human man who has somehow never been promoted to senior officer ranks despite having been in starfleet for almost his entire adult life. charming and playful, likely the easiest to make friends with on board. unfortunately not great to work with, yet, somehow, knows at least one person on every federation planet. he fucks somehow
Lt. Cdr. Dakail (he/they, Chief of Security) - a gentle and soft-spoken bajoran. a little bit too chill considering what they get into. just here to have a good time most of the time and if the good times aren't coming he will be a little miffed about it. probably the most normal person on board unless you look closer he's a little bit of a freak
Cpt. Karal (he/him) - a cardassian man, middle-aged, rather distant. Has a bit of an ego problem, but not related to being Cardassian in the slightest. seems to want to push away any Cardassian association entirely (for some mysterious reason!). strict, a connoisseur of the arts, slightly frustrated with his post.
Cmdr. Wollenbach (she/her, 1st officer) - a human woman who rose through the ranks through hard work and her friendly attitude. appears a little too friendly at times to the point where it seems fake. definitely not a Changeling who has been impersonating a dead woman for the past few years. Don't worry about it
Lt. Cdr. T'Sik (she/her, CMO) - a vulcan woman who has been working with starfleet since forever, lowkey ptsd'd to hell and back but won't let that bother her. she just wants to do her job. unfortunately her fellow officers are all kind of a little annoying. a bit of a gossip. don't tell anyone
Lt. Nul (she/her, Science officer/Nurse (eventually)) - an ambitious young woman, one of the first Ferengi women to join starfleet. constantly on edge and despite everything holds on to a lot of ferengi culture which makes it a little awkward for her sometimes. mischievous & even goal-driven when it comes down to it. failgirl numero uno
there's more people on the ship i haven't given much thought to but this is all i got rihgt now. enjoy... and here is one last secret thing if you read this whole post
Tumblr media
okay so the thing i didnt tell you is that they're actually revamps of my 10 year old tng ocs except i changed their species and snapped one of them out of existence bc i didnt know what to do with them. if you are a real lt. cmdr. 10 fan let me know i will bring them back . #TENHEADS

1942 10 24 Daylight over Milan - Graham Turner
After attacks on Genoa on 22/23 and 23/24 October, which were designed to coincide with Montgomery's El Alamein offensive, Harris at the morning conference at HQ Bomber Command on 24 October decided to switch targets to Milan. Unlike Genoa, with its ports and shipyards, or Turin, with its war industries, the attack on Milan - the political and commercial centre of northern Italy - was for morale purposes and the effect on the civilian population. As a result, this attack was unusual in not being one single night raid. Instead, Harris chose to split the attack: 5 Group's Lancasters by day - perhaps to highlight British air superiority over a major Italian city - and the other Groups' 'heavies' at night. This battle scene features the daylight attack, which saw 88 Lancasters take off to bomb the aiming point of 'Milan "A"' - the city centre - though this caused controversy afterwards when it became public that the Duomo had been the aiming point . Seventy-four aircraft dropped 51.8 tons of HE bombs and 81.5 tons of incendiaries on Milan. As cloud over Milan was down to 3,000 ft, and since the bombs dropped included a good number of 4,000-pounders, release from below this height was in some cases avoided so a number of Lancasters stayed above the cloud, bombing at between 8,000 ft and 12,000 ft. A number went below the cloud and down to 2,000ft to identify the aiming point, however, and this is depicted in this battle scene. One Lancaster even got down to 50ft, where, the Italian authorities claimed, it strafed buildings and machine-gunned people in the streets; indeed, the Lancaster of Wg Cdr J. M. Southwell, 9 Squadron's CO, admitted later to having 'used 7,000 rounds machine-gunning two trains on the Milan-Novara railway and strafing what he said was Novara'. Nonetheless, photographic evidence - taken both during the bombing and later on by a reconnaissance aircraft - revealed that a large amount of damage was inflicted - mainly by fire - on industrial premises all over Milan, and the railway lines to Bologna,Genoa and Venice and along the St Gothard route had been severed. The main railway station had been particularly damaged, as were areas around the Porto Novara Station and the Parco Solari and many industrial premises, such asthe GEC Engineering Works, Municipal Tramways and the Caproni aircraft factory. Mussolini publically admitted damage to nearly 2,500 houses, with 450 completely demolished. For the British, the losses were three Lancasters(3.4 per cent), one having crashed over Milan and two others shot down by Luftwaffe night-fighters around Caen in France. These were light considering this had been a risky long-distance run in daylight across Axis-dominated Europe.Damage to aircraft was another matter, however. Several bombers had been damaged either by flak over Milan or enroute, by colliding with a seagull over the target, by a Macchi C.202 Folgore, by hitting high-tension electric cables,or by crash-landing at an emergency airfield in Sussex. A total of ten aircraft (11.45 per cent) were damaged, half ofthem seriously. While the day raiders were landing at their bases in England, another force of 71 aircraft, comprising the Stirlings,Halifaxes and Wellingtons from the PFF, 1, 3 and 4 Groups, was already over Milan. Although thick cloud covered the target, they could see the glow of the fires started by the Lancasters five hours earlier, and proceeded to bomb those. Further destruction to Milan, although not extensive, was caused

Phantom Friday... carrier ops edition.
In the last post I described the "bridle", the cable assembly used to launch the Phantom. However, more than that is needed.
Tumblr media
Under the tail you'll see the "hold-back". When the aircraft is ready for launch the engines are at full throttle and the brakes would not be able to keep it from moving down the deck. The holdback is a bar attached to the deck and to the aircraft with a very special bolt.
Tumblr media
Called a dogbone or tension bar, it can hold the aircraft at full throttle but break with the added pull of the catapult when it fires. Simple and reliable... most of the time.
Tumblr media
At the arrow you'll see a Phantom heading for the drink after a series of unfortunate events. The aircraft was sitting on the waist catapult ready for launch, but the dogbone broke before the cat fired. The aircraft began moving but nowhere near fast enough to take off. THEN the catapult fired. The shuttle struck the nose gear, collapsed it, got fouled in the wreckage and dragged the aircraft forward and tossed it off the edge of the deck. Pilot CDR Fred Winton and RIO LCDR Robert Keating ejected (above the white arrow you'll see one of the jettisoned canopies) and both came down on the flight deck before their chutes dragged them over the side. Winton survived to be rescued, but Keating struck another aircraft. Presumably seriously injured he didn't separate from his chute in the water and was not recovered.

1917 07 Castor Oil Music - Russell Smith
Castor Oil Music depicts Sopwith Triplane N533, one of several triplanes flown by RNAS Cdr Raymond Collishaw. Collishaw, who commanded “B” Flight of Naval Squadron 10, scored two of his 60 victories in this machine. N533 bore the name “Black Maria” on its fuselage and was marked with a large “C” on the fuselage and upper rear elevator. This was one of only six Sopwith Triplanes which were equipped with twin Vickers machine guns rather than the single Vickers which most Triplanes were armed with.  Although only about 150 Sopwith Triplanes were built, it was considered a successful design, and is acknowledged to be the inspiration for Anthony Fokker’s more famous Dr.1 triplane. Collishaw thought highly of the design stating “The Triplane I found to be a delightful machine - in my estimation much preferable to the Pup.” The title, Castor Oil Music, refers to the castor oil which was commonly used to lubricate the rotary Clerget engines used by the Sopwith Triplane. Here was see Collishaw warming his engine as he prepares for another mission

Hurricane Oscar: Foresight, solidarity and unity in the face of any contingency
https://www.granma.cu/
Preserving people's lives is the priority in the face of the onslaught of Hurricane Oscar, said Joel Queipo Ruiz, a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Provincial Defense Council.
This governing body, activated in full composition, just like that of the municipalities, reviewed the provisions with which it acts in the current phase of cyclone alarm in which the territory finds itself.
Here, according to the assessment, the population protection commissions are activated up to the CDR level, with emphasis on the transfer of people to the homes of relatives and friends, and evacuation centers determined for these cases.
The actions aimed at ensuring the lives of our fellow citizens, although they have been accelerated in recent hours, have been based on rational movements that are made from the most distant and difficult-to-access sites, while taking into account residents in coastal flood zones.
Also taken into account are those who live near riverbanks, as well as in areas that may be covered by water due to rainfall, and in areas downstream of reservoirs, especially in the municipalities of Moa, Sagua de Tánamo and Frank País.
In addition, the protection of inhabitants in mountain communities and rural areas that may be isolated is being monitored, and they have been advised to move them to caves or engineering works near these sites.
The guidelines included strict restrictions on access to risk areas such as rivers, streams, canals, reservoirs and bridges, areas of potential landslides and waters below dams.
The municipal defense councils were required to increase the supply of drinking water to the most remote populations and those that depend on water trucks, while they were instructed to carefully follow and comply with what was established for the protection or evacuation of material resources stored in facilities with structural vulnerabilities.
Regarding the actions to be undertaken in the recovery phase after the passage of the meteor, among other things, it was decided to collect the vegetables and other agricultural products that the winds and rains could destroy, and at the same time speed up the harvest of those that could be damaged, which will be followed by the immediate sowing of short-cycle crops.
Regarding the handling of the storm in tourist resorts, where thousands of foreign visitors are staying, the authorities in the sector reported that all of them, as well as the nationals staying there, are protected.
It was also learned that in all coastal municipalities instructions were given for the return to land of vessels that were carrying out work at sea, so that they could be transferred to points that offer them safety.
Particular attention was paid to the availability of food, with agricultural authorities stating that instructions had been given to supply the markets with food and other products, and that their entities had been instructed to prepare soups and ajiacos, among other things, to sell to the population.
The actions undertaken to speed up the sale of the products in the standard family basket and to protect those in the warehouses were specified. In the province, actions continued for the distribution of fuel to the municipalities, so that the operation of the emergency generators can be assured, which guarantee, above all, the vitality of the medical services, the supply of water to the population and communications. Likewise, the sale of liquefied gas to the population continued.

Can you tell me about why do you decided to be interested in MU/MCU? I love your recommendation and I'm kinda curious why you decided to be interested on them.
Thanks for answering and I hope you are having a great day!
Heyyyaaaaa, nonnie!
warning: This is gonna be so long, so I'm sorry in advance because my English might go terrible in the long run, it's not my first language.
To answer your question, the road that leads me here is quite chaotic because I have an attention span of a gold fish since I was still a child, and things will only interest me if it grows like a blue cheese or haunted me as a ghost. Like I need it to take a slow deep root before I got so hyperfixated that it's the only thing I will consume until my dying days. It's like the brainwaves and frequencies need to match.
Anyway, the first Marvel related content I encounter was about Spiderman. It was funny enough because he was included in the Justice League theme birthday cake that my parents bought when I was younger for my sibling and I have no idea before that it is so wrong. I have no clue about Marvel Universe because in my ripe age of 8, the only thing I was interested that time was Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes, Detective Conan, Sofia the First, Thomas the Tank Engine, and Pokemon.
When my conciousness about Pop culture and other stuff started to further awaken, the second encounter was through the random movies showed in a blockbuster show in a television channel every afternoon and evening during Weekends. I remember the films that I watched in that 2 hour congested period of film viewing was Iron Man 1, Iron Man 2, Maguire's version of Spiderman, and Ghost Rider. I remember how you will notice the scenes were cut in order for the commercials to slide during the film viewing. I love those because not only I enjoyed watching it but it's also a little bonding time I had with my father who also enjoy watching films, and those movies sits on the genre of action that we both enjoy. In addition to that, my sibling got a copy [I guess it was a blue ray, something that can be bought I think in CDR King] of two Andrew Garfield's Amazing Spiderman films and I ate them all up.
Then here comes the fun time. I was re-introduced again in Marvel Universe when Black Panther and Doctor Strange was released. I love Mystic and Magic, I find them fascinating. Coincidentally, Marvel released Doctor Strange in 2016, and I saw it. I didn't even realize during that moment that it's connected to Marvel, and then I proceeded to watch Black Panther in 2018 when my sibling got so fascinated with the tech in that movie.
However, that wasn't the start of me going into the glorious rabbit hole. It happened when Infinity War was released and then Endgame, then the world goes into flames when Pandemic hits. Those times weren't great.
There I saw a POV in Youtube when I was interrupted by accidentally clicking a video trying to skip the ad when I was casually watching a gameplay of 7 Days to Die. I got interested so I didn't exit it immediately. It was a POV of an AU featuring our very own Sergeant James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes.
I was so intrigued about his storyline and why was he like that in the POV I had watched (the scene was him being electrecuted, tortured, and mind wiped by Hydra).
I got curious and that's where I begin to travel here in there. I revived my AO3; a site that I only used before for Dramione and Fred x Reader fics; now it was turned into a mixture of Dramione, Bucky x Reader, Loki x Reader (Yes, I also fall into that rabbit hole, but I always find myself going home to Bucky), Daemon x Rhea, and other Seb Stan role x Reader.
That's how I started and now I basically became so overly attached to this. I've read the comics, watched the animated shows, watched the shows that before weren't included in the main timeline (I see you daredevil, agents of shield, x-men, etc.), stayed too long to be considered as still normal in a comic book shop staring at different merchandises and comic books that I'm too broke to buy. Here I am till now, living vicariously in different AUs and fics while being forced to faced the dreadful reality outside. Managed to pull my sibling and my friend into loving and experiencing the wonders of Marvel.
Added to that, Marvel is also the reason why I had downloaded this app, and that's why I'm grateful for it because it didn't only save my life during my difficult moments but also introduced me to an amazing community.
So nonnie, thank you for asking me that lovely question, I feel so happy sharing a piece of me, and I also hope you have a wonderful day!!🧡
