It is odd, to hear someone who resembles his own kind so closely ask such a question. He has heard it before, but only among dwarves, among those whose ties had been cut. “I might be a poor person to ask. I have known dreams my whole life, and thus cannot say what it is to sleep without them. You may do better to ask our Inquisitor, a dwarf born dreamless, tied to dreams by the mark upon her hand. Nevertheless, I shall try.”

He pushes his tongue against the back of his teeth in thought a moment before he continues. “They can be many things. Your worst memories reimagined, your deepest fears hounding you, you may wake with a fright, but be none the worse for wear. What is, perhaps, most unique is how time moves in dreams. Some moments may be dreamt in precise detail while others are glossed over carelessly, events unfold in an order that may not seem strange until you wake. Of course, as a mage, I’ve long been able to cut past the haze of dreams for a clearer picture, and experience them with full consciousness. Still, I remember what it is like when sharing the dreams of others.”

Character Mannerisms

“Here’s some considerations for the tiny little details that can add a lot to a character. Figuring out these mannerisms can do a lot for conveying character traits through their normal actions rather than just their thoughts, dialogue, etc.”

Posture: Proud, stiff. Despite the SLIGHT slouch of his shoulders, he displays an aura of authority & strength with his stance. Shoulders back, and head held high. Rarely would one find his head lowered in submission. Emphasis on his defiance towards authority and inner strength.

Their Etiquette: There is a certain amount of respect pertaining towards royalty and authority. However, this respect is something that has to be earned. Speaks in Laketown vernacular, but still retaining that surprising eloquence that comes from experience and wisdom of forefathers. No matter who he speaks to, his words do not turn golden with flattery. Rather crude in his speech through his unique blend of informal + formal language.

In crowds: Uncomfortable. Prefers to be in areas where there are few people or where he could have quiet solitude. Tends to push through the crowds when they are in his way.

How do they point something out: An arched eyebrow accompanied with a rather obvious glance towards the thing he is pointing out. Bard, also, tends to blatantly jerk a thumb towards where he is indicating.

Comforting self-touch gestures: Hands clenched into fists or holding either an oar or a longbow in his hands. Bard is commonly seen with items within his grasp or his hands rarely relaxed. These are very indicative of the level of tension within. His longbow + arrows have become some sort of comfort items for him.

Reactions to common emotions:

Anger: Narrowed eyes, tightened jaw, words snapped out in a harsh manner, eyebrows furrowed, clenched fists, and aggressive stance.

Happiness: A certain warmth within his eyes and a curl to his lips. His posture is significantly less tense than before.

Fear: Laboured breathing, eyes widened, hands drawn close to his body. If longbow is at hand, his fingers will twitch for an arrow.

Sadness: Very distant, and unwilling to associate with other individuals aside from loved ones ( even then, Bard will pretend that he is fine, when really he isn’t. ). His lips would usually be pressed tightly in his attempts to stop frowning.

Confusion, curiosity: Either an arched eyebrow or his eyebrows knitting together.

Most expressive body parts:

Eyes: Despite his features not displaying his emotions readily, one would be able to glean his mood through his eyes.

Hands: Very, very expressive hands especially when speaking. He gestures a lot ( which is indicative of his charismatic nature - info ) and tends to touch his own face when in thought.

How do they sound: Like a drum ( if that makes any sense ). Everything that he does, every movement that is made has a internal rhythm, a lively beat that spoke of purpose and direction. Be it from the sound of footsteps upon the wooden piers or the swish of the oars upon water, there is a certain surety within everything. Voice-wise, Bard has this interesting lilt within his voice that can be compared to Welsh ( this is something that I have to do more research on because while Bard in the movies speaks with a distinct accent that comes from the British Isles, I’ve researched that Laketown was infused of elements from Nordic, Finnic, Baltic & Turkish influences, meaning that the speech cadences + rhythms had to be a blend of all those. Well, that’s how I see it anyways LOL.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ), but is very, very strong in his deliverance of words. I have to bring back the analogy of the drums because honestly, that’s what I think of when Bard comes to mind. Alternating between slow & steady to fast-paced & harsh.

How do they handle eye contact: Without any problem. Bard has this unnerving way of keeping eye contact with other individuals. Typically, he would tilt his head to show his attentiveness & literally stare into the eyes of the speaker.

Any behaviors they reserve for moments when they’re alone: Here, Bard would allow himself to show the weakness that he would not be able to show in public. The sternness of his features would fade away until he was left with a weary exhaustion. Somehow, in these moments, Bard’s features would transform, making him look very haggard. He would be more prone to more emotional outbursts, from cursing to almost crying from the stress bestowed upon him. On a more lighter note, Bard likes to sing little ditties when alone. ( he’s such a nerd ).

What else do they do to comfort themselves: Physical labour. Bard has a propensity to do things that does not require the mind in order to distance himself from the problem. Honestly, with his busy lifestyle, Bard does not have many means to comfort himself with, leaving room for self-destructive behaviours.

   Form is pressed back against a nearing tree, they’re waiting for orders    anything to give them the go to press onward. Time was passing slower    than usual and being stuck in the middle of ( almost ) no where was    beginning to grow o l d. In her hands is  her own bow, arrow loosely    hung between index and middle finger at her opposite side. She’s    watching them, actually impressed another archer has come along    ( many did not seem to like archery these days ) However, she has    nothing against those that use swords with a shield, magic? Magic    was another story. Pushing herself forward, she walks over to the    other once yet another target was hit. In her mind - e a s y.
