in another world, in other circumstances, she might be inclined to think this whole tradition was ludicrous. but the smiling ( devilish ) hand of fate had reached out and dropped her an opportunity, and that makes it only laughable in the maniacal sense. really, she shouldn’t do this ( this is what they say about you jungmi, not who you are ) ( you’re not bad, you’re kwak jungmi, not trouble, just misunderstood ) on some level, she wants to believe those things are true. on another, she will never, ever forget wiping away jina’s tears when they were kids, when jina had came running into her room, flopped onto her bed in dramatic, watery-eyed defeat, little arms wrapping around her as she cried to jungmi about the sad facts of life; they are kwaks. and jungmi had been unsurpried to know that kids didn’t want to be friends with, or even associate with, jina because of the unfortunate reality of her birth ( after all, jungmi had similar things happening to her, even then ) there hadn’t been through pats and small, sad smiles, or reassuring words she could say. she had just wanted to say 'i’m sorry jina, baby. children are mean, people are mean, and you are a kwak,' but the truth of that was too close to the reality of what people used as an excuse to be as malicious as they wished.

so she didn’t mean to end up here. down this slippery path. but when the name for this letter passing game came up top-side, the shiny, pretty ( pretty as the girl herself, reputation and all ) won jiyi, the opportunity couldn’t be missed. her pen was pressed down with an intent that left indentations with each stroke ( she had even bought fine card stock, folded it into a crease ) and her face shows no remorse in this moment. the plan already long stretching, with a dramatic flare that only jungmi could summon. plain for all but the name she had scrawled on the front, and the words on the inside fold.
