So! I’ve noticed that once in a while people are confused about the gifts, especially Cranedances.
What does it mean when she went from “dream walker” to “dream shaper”?
Essentially, when I gave her a gift— since she’s a Gen1 I had to give her a new and unique one, so I used her in-game skill as the base.
How her power works (Taker Vision)—
Crane can see the world of the Takers, what this means is that she can see the real world and the Takers world in an overlapping vision (tho only in the Taker worlds color scheme). Crane can see Takers walking around in their work while being safe in her own, though, this also means that when there is a Taker in her world it’s hard for her to notice.
The Taker World.
Their method of being created is not important right now- but the way they cross into the “real” world is.
When the waters in their world (the only water they can interact with without dying) turn white, a Taker can walk into the water and they will come out the other side in the real world. There is no water source on the other side, they kinda just rise from the ground like goopy sludge that reforms into a vague animal shape.
Now onto what happened to Cranedance.
The special page was from her pov, meaning you don’t get any information that she would already know or anything she didn’t know yet.
When Cranedance sleeps she walks in the Takers World, like a ghost, they can’t see or sense her, she isn’t technically there, but her mind is. And the world is still very real to her, it reacts like she is there.
When she walked into the white water, she didn’t crawl out into the real world, she couldn’t, her body was already there— however, what did happen was that it changed her.
She, by all means, is a new species altogether. She became a beacon for the Takers.
What this means is that no matter the world, the place, or situations— she shines like a blinding white beacon to the Takers.
They could be across the entire territory and she, in the distance, would be visible as a tiny ball of light.
She has become a miniature sun. There is no more hiding for her. Not even in her dreams will she be safe, they can always find and see her now.
Her gift mutated and changed her, she's not a cat anymore, her gift would still work outside the Rift, which none others do.
By all means Cranedance is now a generation 0, the first of her kind. A very dangerous thing to be, it really has no benefits whatsoever.
I don’t know what will happen to her, not any more than you all do. So that’ll be fun :)
#HOPE THIS EXPLAINS IT#I REALLY TRIED BUT NOTHING IS EVER WRITTEN LIKE I SEE IT IN MY MIND#katchat#chasinglore#if theres spelling errors No no theres not

I want to know more about Valley! Both her name and design are absolutely STUNNING!
Valleyfrost | 13 | Cold She/Her | ???
Valley has incredible strength, this being a Gift she was born with.
She not only has the strength equal to a Rottweiler but the body mass too. Meaning she's not only gonna pummel whoever she fights, she isn't exactly easy to push around by a single cat.
She's also an unusually fast runner, so very much a fast and hard hitter.
She's a second born of Soot’s kits and often feels like the most overlooked. With Moth being the very clear favourite and Crane being the very opposite, which is a form of attention on its own.
Valley's very close to her siblings, with a tentative relationship to her Apa, but a distant (though still positive) relationships to Silk and Dew.
She looks the most like her mother, inheriting very little from the Chasing bloodline.
She's loud and abrasive around her family, but she clamps up pretty consistently when interacting with strangers, simply fixing them a nasty stare when possible.
Valley is very observant and has been piecing together clues to the larger picture faster than the others have. Doesn't mean she knows anything yet.
Even with the rules in place, Valley very often sneaks away to be alone, sometimes actively looking for Takers. She's convinced she can take them in a fight.
#chasingask#chasinglore#valleycff#we are back with some of these#was hit is the inspiration for valley so#if youre wondering shes at the lake thats at the edges of the chasing territory#GUYS SHE HAS SO MANY SAD THOUGHTS IN GAME#as a reminder:#the ages on these are always their current time in game#this might not line up with their comic ages#she also has her full name cuz it's kinda established what the triplets names are

Can we get a list of the gifts please its been a bit since we got a proper list
Of course! Here's a list of currently active gifts and the cats they belong to! (This list includes cats you may not know, as they haven't been introduced yet, and won't for a while.)
Ghost sense, and receptive to omens while awake: Silkglide, Beetlemimic.
Can see the dead, regardless of the afterlife in which they reside: Dewbat.
Cannot drown, can still die of oxygen deprivation: Epilogue.
Sees the world of Takers, cannot see reality: Crandance.
Abnormally strong, has the strength of a dog: Valleyfrost.
Cold resistance, cannot freeze to death: Rattlehusk.
Abnormally fast, cheetah-like speed for short bursts: Jayflit.
Incapable of feeling fear, for themselves or for others: Falconpaw.
Their pelt grows black like a Takers as night falls: Blackpaw.
Danger sense, gets a chill down the spine, and a sense of panic when something's about to go wrong anywhere in the territory: Quickpaw.
Suggestion. They can suggest something to someone else, and they will believe it is their own idea. It is temporary: Saltkit.
Completely silent footsteps, no matter what terrain is walked on: Redkit.
Has the uncanny ability to know exactly where plants are or will grow: Riverkit.
Can speak with multiple voices at once, to confuse prey or enemies: Eddykit.

An explanation of The Rift
I’m making this to give answers to things that our characters will never find answers or explanation to within the story, but things that are helpful to know (and I also just really wanna share my world building whoops)
This will not be everything, but just things I know will never be naturally revealed.
There might be spoilers to things not yet revealed or resolved in the story, so read only if you’re okay with potential spoilers!

The Rift itself:
The Rift is a mirror of the Takers world.
If you look at the map you see Chasingclan is one big circle.
Easiest way to explain it: It's one big fae circle.
The sun is cold because it's actually the moon from the Takers world, which is a world of permanent night.
As a result of being mirrored of the Takers world, The Rift is unusual, it grows plant life that's not normally or naturally occurring in those parts of the world. The climate is unusual too, with very little snow in the winter and rainstorms persist for moons with maybe a few days or weeks breaks, followed by droughts.
Pray is sometimes scarce because they too follow the laws of Generations like the cats do.
The rift, as in the chasm that surrounds the territory, is incredibly deep, littered with cliffs and caves. It's also wherein Takers were thrown into, once discovered (or cats that deserve the dark forest, cats who don't get the honour of a burial).
It is impossible to climb out of. But easy to jump as long as you're anything but a G1.
Generations:
“Generations”- meaning the amount of cats that have been born on Chasingclan land. Also shortened to G[number].
For each generation, as Chasingsky’s prophecy said, they get harder and harder for Takers to find.
See Soot and Silk, they're G6, descendants from the first group that formed the clan. Takers have a very hard time finding them. Takers have to be very, very close to even see them- This is why they've been alive so long while being able to go on solo patrols.
Then there's Dew, G7, Takers cannot see him. They can still sense him, but they can't actually see him.
Now, Moth, Crane, and Valley should be G7 too. But they aren't. They're G1.
“Generation” only counts if a cat is born within the Rift.
Everyone from the outside world, not Rift born, are G1.
Outsiders can come and go, as long as they don't stay in Chasing territory for more than 24 hours, if they do, they are stuck and are considered G1. They will never be able to leave alive. They're also fully visible to Takers, they're practically beacons actually.
This is why Quiver and Storm are stuck, and why Glowfern died trying to escape. They are/were all G1.
Gifts:
“Gifts” are mutations that can show up in G1 cats, and they're completely random.
Gifts are given by the cursed lands of the Rift as an evolutionary advantage, if they can survive and pass it onto the next generation the gift can grow stronger or become a permanent fixture in any given bloodline.
Take Silk, she can sense dead cats and has a very easy time receiving messages or visits from them while awake, though she cannot see them. This gift popped up with her ancestor, Fumble, a G1 loner- so the gift itself is only 4 generations old.
(Soot has not inherited this gift.)
Dewbat has the ability to see the dead, both starclan and not. A G1 gift he inherited from July.
Then there's the current G1 cats:
Valley is abnormally strong, but because of her size and just cats in general. Her strength puts her on the same level as a Rottweiler.
Crane has a very intense G1 gift, she lives in the living's world while only being able to see the mirrored world of the Takers. She doesn't know what reality actually looks like.
If a cat, like the triplets, is brought into the clan as G1 they cannot inherit any gifts from their parents.
It actually became a very weird tradition for some families in Chasingclan to give birth outside the Rift and bring the kits back over, making them G1s and hoping they develop a powerful gift. This practice was harshly outlawed after it was found out that G1s were not hidden from Takers.
Skychaser herself punished and banished a few cats that did not follow the rules.
#katchat#chasinglore#was supposed to make lil drawing to do with before posting#but I have not been had much time#also NEW PAGES SOON I'm fighting for my life#they do not want to cooperate with me#I might add picture later btw#if I remember

Would it be possible to know more about Gentlefruit, Squirrel, and Spring? And what they they of Storm for disappearing, or the Rift itself?
Additionally, do you think Squirrel and/or Spring may inherit Storm's draw towards the Rift? Which could lead them to potentially encounter each other (or Takers in the other's body)?
Squirrelpaw | 10 | Adventurous • Springpaw | 10 | Lonesome (Playful) He/Him | Aroace • She/Her | Sapphic
Squirrel:
He has an endless supply of energy most of the time.
Very headstrong, and simply will not listen to authority, even his dad.
He has a pull similar to what Storm did, however it pulls him as far away from the Rift as possible.
He hates being in the clan, and has thought about running away often.
Squirrel loves his sister but the love only goes so far, he wouldn’t put himself in danger to keep her safe.
He has only gone to one apprentice lesson, since then he’s ditched his mentor every time. He’s convinced he can learn on his own.
Spring:
Spring, like her brother, has a lot of energy. However, it’s mostly channeled into learning or gathering herbs.
She wanted to be a healer for the simple purpose that she is allowed to cross border lines without consequence, giving her more room to scout for Storm.
Given that her passion doesn’t lay in healing she has a very hard time actually retaining anything she learns, leaving her stressed as she uses hours trying to quiz herself.
She’s not close to her dad, Gentlefruit, nor to her brother. She hopes that Stormpelt could be who she takes after, and maybe, if she found him, she wouldn’t feel so lonesome anymore.
She has a massive fear of heights, meaning she keeps away from the Rift as much as possible. Except for healer gatherings, you will never see her go near them.
She/her might not fit as much as she first thought it did…

hello! Sorry to ask, but could you give me an idea of what a taker is? Sorry, I’m a bit new around here and probably wasn’t around for the explanation
Yeah sure!
So takers are semi (read very very loosely) based off of mythical creatures I grew up with such as Huldra and Nøkke!
What Takers do is that they inhabit the hollowed out skins of the dead, either after they've passed themselves or by a Taker killing them. They strive to cover their whole body (which is a black void like being that comes in whatever shape they desire) if they cannot cover their whole body with one skin, they find other bodies to take from to create a patchwork.
They only take what they need, and leave the rest for other Takers.
They're very allergic to water, a bit of dew won't do anything but if they step in a puddle the skin they inhabit with start to corrode, and if water touches the void part itself- they will start smoking and burning away. This is the only way to kill them.
Takers are not intelligent, they're not sapient, they're barely sentient at all.
The only feeling they really have is anger, greed, and very rarely something akin to fear. They mirror and copy living cats if they somehow manage to live among them.
A Takers one goal is to live like sentient beings, to be a part of a community- not because of loneliness, but because that's simply what they do. It's what they've evolved to do. This is also why they're sticking around the clans, because that's the biggest collection of communal life in the area for miles upon miles. (Good thing as they could wreck human populations very quickly if given the chance).
They learn and grow as any species does. They've learned not to go after the younger members of a species, or the very old ones, because if a Taker has taken someone, that someone isn't alive anymore and therefore doesn't grow or die naturally.
There's a lot of Takers stuck in the rift because the older days the clans threw their taken members down there because they couldn't otherwise be killed.
Takers come from the Chasingclan lands, it's not been discovered why it how yet, but they do have a mirror world that only exists within the Chasingclan territory.
That should be everything? I believe so?
#askjon#chasinglore#IF I FORGET ANYTHING PLEASE COMMENT WHAT I MISSED#this is all from the top of my head so hmmnn
