Everytime. Every second of the day if he can, he is desperately touch starved 🧍.

Of course, maybe not every second of the day- if he's working in his lab or tinkering with something, he'd be too occupied (most of the time you aren't even allowed to be in the room with him during these times– too many risks yk? He can't subject you to that)

But during slower moments like when he's filing out paperwork for the Fatui, he'd have you on his lap like I said in my affection hcs just to calm his nerves. Out of every other time, this could be close to being his favorite. Trust me, bath cuddles and holding each other while you sleep is comfy and all but nothing can beat the immediate wave of comfort that washes over him when he buries his head in the crook of your neck, his grip on his pen loosening just slightly if you decide to take it up a notch and run your fingers through your hair. It's just so euphoric to him. If his human battery needs a quick charge in the middle of work, this. This is his go to.

Now first off, planning the bath.

He probably only thinks about it on slow days or after one or both of you were away for a long time on some sort of mission (those ones are usually the softest times 🏃), or maybe he plans it as some sort of reward for you. Honestly depends on his mood, because this man never takes day offs.

He'd run the bath himself,

Arranging candles, scented or not, it really depends on what you prefer, making sure the water temperature is just right, picking out the soaps and shampoos, preparing the robes and towels for when you're done, setting the mood- it's all extra, yes, but he makes sure it's perfect. Every little thing is planned carefully to ensure the experience is relaxing for the both of you (Celestia knows just how exhausting it is to work for the Fatui- and he's a Harbinger, no less- man's needs some breaks too). Such a task can't be entrusted to anyone else but him.

Getting you to join him / how the bath goes in general;

Now this is the easiest part usually. At first the premise was embarrassing, definitely nerve wracking with just how intimate it was, but after some time of getting him accustomed to it he found that he really enjoys it. Definitely calms his very stressed self down– the warm water against your skins, you pressed up against him as he holds you close, the soothing scent of the candles if you're into that, and depending on what kind of tech they do and dont have (which they most likely do because... Hello??? Tech genius Dottore here???), soft music playing from some kind of radio he built for you as a gift. Half the bath wouldn't even be a bath it's just cuddling with extra steps 💀. But, although the comforting silence is nice, his favorite part is when you get to wash each other's hairs. He can't decide if he likes being on the giving or receiving end of it more- both are comforting. On one hand, when you wash his hair, the feel of your fingers scratching lightly against his scalp as you lather the shampoo would admittedly just make every single worry he has poof in that moment. No thoughts just,, soft. He's so touch starved god help. But on the other, once he gets to wash your hair he's uncharacteristically gentle- surgeon level gentle- and he definitely ends up getting distracted by playing with your hair. Again, it calms him.

After the bath,

All good things unfortunately must come to an end. That, and as comfortable as you both are, you don't want to end up looking like human raisins so you have to get out eventually. That doesn't mean the affection stops there though oh no no– he'll help dry you off if need be (it's really all just an excuse to keep touching you bc after all this he's really craving the intimacy, the touch starved fuck, but ykw it's valid he deserves it), and if you're the type to blowdry your hair after the shower for whatever reason, he'll help with that too. Once you're both in your robes he's immediately rushing to bed , hell sometimes he'll just go "fuck it" and carry you there himself.

(Yes, the bed is also made. Yes, he planned that too)

Yk how warm and cozy fluffy sheets n stuff are when they're fresh out the dryer? Yeah. That's what's set up. Best shit ever as he lays you down next to him and hold you while you both drift off to sleep- or sometimes he'll have you lay on him and vice versa. Not that he'll actually lay on you, assuming you're shorter than him (if you're not then he might😍), but he will rest his head on your chest just to feel your heartbeat as his own races and pounds against his chest. Being around you for so long, he's been conditioned to such closeness by now but there's no getting rid of that soft n fuzzy feeling whenever he's with you.

Some might even go as far as to argue that he's practically married to it.

The man has no sleep schedule, especially not on days when inspiration struck hard, so it wasn't uncommon to never find the doctor anywhere else but in his personal lab (the only one he'd never dream of abandoning no matter how bored he may be), tinkering and experimenting away as mechanical whirs, ticks, and other ominous creaky noises echoed through the empty forest around it from behind the heavy metal doors. However, lately all the noises coming from there have gotten louder, more machinery seem to be operating all at once, and if someone were bold enough to step closer to the doors, they might even catch the faintest tuts of annoyance, frantic scribbling, or on rare occasions; incoherent cursing in some foreign language that definitely isn't Snezhnayan.

At first, the others and his assistants assumed it was just him having an off day, maybe something happened during one of his recent missions- but eventually, he stopped leaving the confines of his laboratory altogether. Should anyone dare to disturb him, well... They can only hope the Tsaritsa answers their prayers. Anyone but you, at least- you technically have a free pass.

And you decided you were going to use it to make sure Dottore gets the break he deserves, work be damned you have a stubborn doctor to convince.

You haven't really seen him in a while, the last thing he told you before heading off was something about making more progress

You weren't surprised when he didn't come back during the next day

So you decided to visit your lover, armed with nothing but packed lunch and affection, because Celestia knows this man isn't going to be doing any self-checks while he's in the state he's in

His lab is a wreck.

No seriously, papers were scattered all over the place along with spare parts and some random machinery- normally he'd be seething if he found any of his equipment on the ground

He's even worse 🗿

I'm talking unruly dishevelled hair, his usually pristine dress shirt crinkled while some of the buttons are left open, his scowl just looks more hostile, and if you squint hard enough you'll even notice the bags under his tired eyes

The moment you're in front of him, he's wrapping his arms around you and pulling you onto his lap

He doesn't care about what you're going to say, he just- he just needs to hold you for a second

Wrap an arm around him, card your other hand through his fluffy hair and he will absolutely melt

Allow him to vent for a little while and press gentle kisses against his face and he'll be a changed man (for 10 minutes)

Yes, he appreciates the face kisses even if the mask is there- you know he'll take it off around you when he's comfortable but until then, you're fine with just this

It takes some time to convince him to let you go, but he does (although with some hesitance) so he can eat the lunch you brought for him

You'd think it'll take even more time to convince him to take a break, but he folds almost immediately after you wrap your arms around him once he's finished eating

He's not proud of how quickly he's succumbing to all this but he relishes the attention

Right after it, he's going to try to jump back into work 💀

Oh, you wanted him to take a couple days off?

He brushes the suggestion off but the expectant look in his eyes tells you he just wants some sort of incentive

Just hold him again, he's too tired to save face

He ends up taking those day offs anyway 🚶

You always help him feel better, so maybe he'll find a spark of inspiration during his little break with you.

Now, with what little information we have about Dottore and his backstory aside from his very, very long list of crimes and the fact that he's pretty much a certified bastard (but honestly we love him for that we can't hide anymore 🤡), it's kind of difficult to speculate how he would react to certain things but at the same time there's so much space to kind of just guess. That being said, I'd just like to note everything I'm boutta drop here are purely just headcanons.

That and I'm still working on getting in the feel for writing about him so bear with me </3

On the receiving end, he's absolutely terrible.

At first, at least.

I don't think it would be a stretch to say this man doesn't know what affection is.

Dottore constantly got shunned in the past ( by his own village, the academia), and as for when he was younger well- we don't know anything but it's safe to say that if he ever did receive affection as a child, he's probably forgotten everything about it by now.

So when you try to initiate any sort of affectionate act, he might be a little,, withdrawn. He is not pleased at all.

He would pull away almost immediately, taking a moment to process what in the actual fuck that was for, and then probably proceed to condescend you.

He's a busy man, he doesn't have time for.. whatever it is you're trying to do.

It takes time to get him to open up, hell it took so long to even get him to allow you to be anywhere near him.

He's a real commitment test, I'm telling you.

So, of course you're respecting his boundaries here (we stan that)

I assume when you asked about affection you mean physical, but first we gotta introduce him to the more basic versions 🚶

Just the little things like checking up on him occasionally, bringing him gifts or things you think he might find useful- just getting him used to having someone to care about him genuinely.

And then out comes the big guns (small guns, for now???), placing your hand over his free one as he's filling out paperwork, or just holding his hand (he might still be a little iffy about it so it starts out with just loosely locking your pinky around his so he can pull away whenever), and maybe on good days he'll gradually allow you to run your fingers through his hair.

Touch starved: unlocked.

Once he's somewhat used to all this, he gets noticeably clingier.

He'll try to turn the tables and say you're the one acting all desperate for his attention but at this point, it's obvious he's just trying to save face.

He's never had anything like this before, and he kind of just "slightly" enjoys it.

The way he demands you to sit on his lap while he works says otherwise.

That's on the receiving end though, now let's talk giving.

Archons, help him he's doing his best.

This genius of a man knows his way around humans and machines, he's got them all figured out, but when it comes to all this he's just so lost.

He does his best to reciprocate, he really does- he uses your ways of giving him affection as an example.

It may not be often, but sometimes he'll give you small hugs from behind or hold your hand when you're noticeably stressed out by all the work you're doing.

He's definitely a gift giver though.

Flowers at your door, that new accessory or outfit you've been eyeing whenever you two go out to roam the streets of Snezhnaya, hell just name it and it's yours- he's got the money, so why not?

All this affection and intimacy stuff is foreign to him, but you've been patient with him- it's only natural that he would want to return the favor. He hates feeling like he owes people anything (despite your many attempts to reassure him that he doesn't owe you a thing- but that's something he's going to have to get to used to as well).

He has absolutely no regard for others, and especially when it comes to how they feel, not when they're all just vessels for something greater- potentials only he can unlock.

But he supposes he can make exceptions for all your hard work.
