Nuclear war is still somewhat of a threat, albeit a lingering threat, considering there are some serious war-mongering politicians who are willing to amp up wars and even threaten nuclear war.
If it's not a nuclear war, it will probably be a world war or some other devastating war that will affect people worldwide.
So what occurs to me is that Baby Boomers/Gen X and Millennials/Gen Z (the cutoffs are a little arbitrary, but bear with me) both grew up in the shadow of extinction, but have had qualitatively different experiences of it.
For the Boomers, the big fear was a sudden, violent catastrophe; nuclear war. US and Soviet ships start shooting at each other off the coast of Cuba; someone, somewhere in the huge and ponderous Cold War military apparatus, mistakes a meteor for an incoming ICBM, and just like that, your world is over. You're always just one bad day away from death on an unimaginable scale.
This fear has never really gone away (and certainly it's had something of a revival, recently), but it went into remission after the end of the Cold War. For Millennials, the overwhelming fear isn't of a sudden catastrophe, it's of a death by a million cuts; global warming. A slow decay growing faster; a downward spiral as everything you love and value crumbles and rots and turns to garbage around you.
When what you fear is a sudden catastrophe, normalcy--"business as usual", abstracting maybe a few reforms of the political systems--becomes a refuge. It could all be gone in a flash, but at least it's here now. It's real, it's solid. You can live in it, while it's standing.
When what you fear is a slow rot, "business as usual" becomes part of the horror. You're not escaping anything; you notice things getting worse around you with every passing summer; even worse, you are--however infinitesimally--assisting in your own demise; slowly and thoughtlessly, you are weaving the rope that will be used to hang you. Normalcy becomes your executioner.

I recently saw a post comparing the progress pride flag to the american one, essentially saying it was gaudy and over representative so all the symbols were just noise.
Like listen, I get that statement of the OG pride flag "encompasses all" but I feel it just completely missed the point of what it stood for.
Is it that bad that our trans and intersex peers wish to be seen? Is it that bad that we show respect to our BIPOC peers and remember they are among us especially when frontline queer voices and representation in media is overwhelmingly white?
Like idk maybe I'm overreacting but as someone part of those communities the progress pride flag shows it made me want to scream. Is it too much to want to be seen when queer people have and will turn a blind eye to us?
I'm NOT saying this flag needs to be everywhere. It'd be nice but it's unrealistic but hell, with the amount of stupid infighting and dangerous ideologies spreading within the queer community, it sure is a sight for sore eyes when I see it.
We're still here, we're still queer, and you cannot separate us from that.
Sorry for the rant I think I'm just tired of people getting hung up on "inclusivity politics" as if acknowleding people existing is some great pain and we're "ruining" their pride flag.
you're 100% right in pointing this out and i'm tired of this behavior. thank you so much for taking the time to send this ask, because this is something i'm actually also very deeply bothered by.
i've seen that post too and i've tried to figure it out and i just can't parse what the hell kind of point they're trying to make. that post makes no sense they thought they made a point and they didn't. just because the design is visually complex doesn't make it like the flag of the United States. there's chevrons on the left hand side of the flag and stripes on the right- that doesn't make it a copy of or homage to or some kind of subliminal messaging that calls back to the flag of the USA. this website has some of the lamest conspiracy theories i've ever seen that are just cooked up to make other people feel like shit.
some people are so hateful and bitter that they view inclusion as a bad thing. i'm calling it for what it is. some people are so goddamn miserable and up their own asses that they literally HATE it when people are included into what they think are their little cliques and groups. some people see like, any attempt from another group of people to be inclusive and inviting as an insult and an attack because they're just "pandering" or sucking up to us or trying to look progressive or whatever. like people will write this shit off every time no matter how good the intentions are. i'm sorry that you're being forcefully made aware that trans and intersex people and queers of color need a platform to speak on and a community to stay in, but you're the one causing a problem here if that bothers you. i'm sorry that people of color in specific need to feel safe in queer spaces, but you're the reason that we don't.
first of all, as an intersex trans person of color, i literally teared up the first time i saw the version of the progress pride flag that included the intersex pride flag. like. that's literally the FIRST TIME IN QUEER HISTORY THAT WE'VE SEEN WIDESPREAD USAGE OF THE INTERSEX FLAG!!!!!!!! THAT'S FUCKING HUGE. THIS IS SO FUCKING IMPORTANT FOR US! we NEED that visibility on such a grand fucking scale!!! we NEED TO BE SEEN LIKE THAT. i don't really care if jaded bitter assholes are like "it's pandering" "its ugly" fuck OFF it's NOT! i don't care how disconnected from your feelings you are, but the first time i saw an intersex flag in PUBLIC, i cried. it was on a progress pride flag. i was in an airport. and then i saw another in a grocery store. and then i started seeing them all over town.
second of all, i am so sick of queer people focusing on aesthetics over function. this attitude has gotten out of hand and honestly it feels like its a lot of white queers who don't understand how important flags are for representation and signaling safety and solidarity and how they're not just a bunch of pretty colors to look at. each part has meaning. this is just the "tooth paste gay flag" discourse bullshit all over again. the stone cold truth is that some people literally fucking HATE it when they see people they don't like gain visibility. these are people who fucking hate intersex and trans people and queer people of color and are so fucking angry that we're daring to occupy space, and making their precious flag 'gaudy' and 'ugly'. also white queers love to bitch about how the brown and black stripes are "UGLY", do i really have to say anything here?
the philadelphia pride flag is a flag made by queers of color living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a historically largely black city, to be explicitly inclusive of black, brown and all queers of color. black queers in philly were the first ones to add black and brown stripes to the traditional rainbow flag. the creator of the progress pride flag took notes from this and decided to honor that and carry it over, as they felt leaving out those stripes would be a slap in the face. and they're right, it would be a slap in the face- it IS a slap in the face! the philly pride flag wasn't made so what white and racist queers can sit here and bitch about how it's "pandering" or "trying to include too many people". this shit was made by and for people of color. this behavior is so fucking disrespectful and racist
Tumblr media
stop fucking fighting over flags. queer flags aren't here to be "aesthetic" or "pretty"- they're here to serve a purpose. to give people a banner to unite under to find community, love, partnership, friendship, safety, and a space to talk and organize. it's so that you can easily recognize that someone else is part of the same family as you. it's not there to be pretty, it's there to be visually striking, and to instantly convey a message. the progress pride flag WORKS because it contains several pride flags and grabs your attention. maybe you're intersex but have never seen other pride flags before. maybe you've never seen the intersex flag before but have seen the trans and rainbow flags before. it will convey the same message, but now with a greater message which is to explicitly say "we want to include everyone".
if you don't like the progress pride flag:
it was not made for you, and you don't have to use it.
thanks for taking the time to send this i really appreciate your thoughts. people have got to stop manufacturing discourse because they want to sound smart. i have no way to put it other than some people literally just cannot form or articulate a point. and that's fine. that's okay. but some will still try anyway and the argument just falls flat. if you encounter talk like that where they don't really have a lot of ground to dislike it other than personal opinion, it's all hot air and has nothing to do with the matter at hand, but rather, their feelings.

I don't have proof, but I'm 90% sure that my job sold donations for charity to a consignment shop.
Every year around the holidays, Green Fabric Hell holds donations for Project Linus and is supposed to take blanket donations from customers and give them to Project Linus. Usually the blankets to be donated are held in the breakroom until donation day.
Last year, there was a particular blanket that caught my eye. It was a gorgeous rainbow chevron blanket. I admit, I really, really liked it. However, and I cannot stress this enough, it was for charity so I did not touch it. I just admired it from afar and it was eventually donated to Project Linus.
Or so I thought.
Fast forward to today (November 2) and I find a gorgeous rainbow blanket at my local consignment store. (I am not faulting them. They receive items from many stores and would absolutely not have known why it was donated) I did not even think about the donated blanket at Green Fabric Hell until after I arrived home, but I am pretty sure it was the same blanket. I can absolutely see them doing something like that.

What is Prowl’s most attractive physical feature(s) is in your opinion?
ghnjmrmmmfjdnfj how dare you make me pick... i cannot possibly do that... BUT... gun to my head?
okay, face, obviously. but that kind of feels like a cheap answer... still. face.
then... CHEVRON.
from then on it kind of depends on his body. my preference goes out to his body in exrid, the one he has on earth. on that one, i just love his shoulders, the wheels... his chest looks awesome too, its like the overall shape and sturdiness of it, but also the details, like the, what the hell would you call it, the cove? in the middle. but my favorite part would have to be that PUSH BUMPER...!!!
finally, and i think im alone in this, dont call me crazy, but his shins look amazing.
thank you.
*edit: HIS TUMMY, FORGOT ABOUT THAT TUMMY THAT NICK ROCHE GIVES HIM, IT IS SHAPED LIKE ABS ITS INSANE

i feel like i can talk to you about this because you have rational opinions. so louis bought a starbucks coffee at the airport and the fandom on twitter are eating him alive, calling him evil and wishing he goes to hell. i’m disappointed since starbucks is on the list of brands to boycott but i feel like this reaction is too much? someone even said jay would be disappointed in him, but people said that was taking it too far. i don’t know, i love louis and i’ll keep supporting him and his music but the fact he can be a careless millionaire is disappointing
1. thank you sweetie I would boop if I could 2. oh my god it's a fucking cup of coffee and if people think that's the worst thing Louis, a multi millionaire, has ever done financially they need a reality check! His money will be handled by bankers who are putting it into all kinds of evil fucking shit that he won't even know about, it's actually very hard to know or control that and there is no way trying is even on his radar. That's a passive thing and not on purpose; but the fact that people don't bother to know about that or care really speaks to how performative this kind of online approach to activism is, that they only care about image rather than effect (the effect of his investments would be easily thousands of times more than any number of coffees or even of the promotion Starbucks might get from him holding it.) But furthermore buckle in cause you hit a nerve: Starbucks isn't even an actual organized boycott target as concerns Palestine because THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ISRAELI GOVERNMENT financially! The official BDS movement calls for boycott of very specific and pointed targets of which Starbucks IS NOT ONE it's literally just an online trend which is not the same as an actual boycott to materially impact a target! Losing them money is always great, they are a crappy union busting small business killing corporation, but it has zero direct effect to help Palestinians unlike supporting the meaningful boycotts called for by BDS. I don't think Louis has decided to buy starbucks because he has this analysis, but to me it's a pretty important point. Him crossing an actual picket line (playing Israel, playing Eurovision [lmaoooo that thought tho], waving an Israeli flag god forbid) would be a very different situation and something that would trouble me so the distinction matters to me. But I get that to people on twitter, that's what they feel like he has done. To which I would say...
There are so many fewer ways to help Palestine than we would wish, and it's SO hard to deal with feeling so powerless right now in the face of such horror, so I love that people feel so strongly about doing whatever they possibly can. But worrying about consumer spending, even on BDS targets, is perhaps the least effective of the things a person can do. Note that BDS boycotts do not mostly focus on asking people not to buy things; they list the products that are especially complicit, but the main work of the movement is to get large investors (corporations, public institutions, whole governments) to divest from the companies targeted because that actually hurts them enough that it becomes less profitable to continue to collude with Israel than to drop them as clients. Consumer spending is not enough to do this. It's easy and doesn't require doing actual work but it's basically virtue signaling, not organizing. Just NOT doing something (yes including voting) is not enough! I personally choose not to give my money to certain corporations because it feels bad to me and I can't stomach doing it, even if they never notice me doing it. But if I was running out of fuel and the only nearby station was a Chevron, I would spend a few bucks there and not beat myself up about it because it will have zero impact on their overall profit reports but a LOT of impact on my life. And if I was in the airport for the second time in mere days after circumnavigating the globe and playing a massive show and doing press and fan service before even having time to adjust time zones and about to get on another flight to another country I might buy a fucking coffee from whatever coffee shop was in there too! But Louis isn't me and I'm gonna be real honest I would be real surprised if he KNEW there was a boycott or gave a shit- he is not a political activist! It's reasonable to be disappointed if someone behaves not how you want them to, but just in general responding to being disappointed in people by lashing out at them is... not it. Not useful, not rational, and not actually an okay way to act to other people. Louis is an awesome sweet caring person who I believe tries hard not to have a negative impact on anyone directly and who cares very much about others; if that's not enough for someone to be a fan of him, okay then they should not be a fan of him! But warning: they're not going to be able to be a fan of anyone else either. No one is pure and perfect... maybe that energy would be better spent trying to make a meaningful difference in the world, and a great first step in that IMO is to recognize and challenge your inner cop. The better world I want to live in doesn't include policing other people, not on twitter and not anywhere.

THEY FUCKING OVERTURNED THE CHEVRON DOCTRINE WHAT THE FUCK
WE KIND OF NEED THAT
It's only, like, the ruling that gives the EPA (and all other federal agencies) the power to define environmental law when actual laws aren't specific enough. Tell me, do you want lead in your water?
If not, you'd better move out of the US!!!
This is appalling. We want experts handling our water and air quality, not politicians who have no idea what they're talking about!!
Call your senators. Call your house representatives. Hell, send hate mail to the asshats who overturned Chevron (John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Amy Coney Barrett, Samuel Alito, Niel Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh). This is appalling.

Confession: I don't like the bi pride flag too much. I think we as a community could've done better.
It feels unbalanced top to bottom but doesn't make up for it by being smoothly gradiented. The middle stripe is an inconsistent saturation to the top and bottom, both of which are slightly too dark in a way that reads more "primary school craft project project from different colours of card stuck together" rather than "sleek and powerful expression of community joy.
No way in hell though am I going to advocate for a change, we all know how that goes. The new heart-chevron polyamory flag is in every way the best version of the poly flag, it looks so much nicer and more coherent and aesthetic, and it was trying to supplant a much less common/established flag. And yet still the result of trying to bring it in is that we now have three competing flags and most places will not have the one you want.
I will continue to try to promote the new poly flag as I think there's still time to win out, but unless something major happens to discredit it the bi flag is set for good I think, alas

You made me shit out of me when I see it top of my page at fucking 2:30 am LMAO I'm glad my room is bright. Anyways okaaay what we have here 👀 I'm going to give you a hug for how much detail put in this DAMN I cant guess which ones are bad and which is our good ghost THEY ALL LOOK CREEPY (I luv it) and Jazz's expression is so me lol. You said Blue is alive right, yes? I dont have any fucking idea who are bad and good ghosts I'm confused as hell. I'm struggling hard I get it broken chevron one is Prowl or is he? but other one and the one not here What the hell is going on now I even start to include maybe Prowl not dead? LMAOO I'm having fun dont mind me. okay I am dumb and you are smart for making this au. poor Smokey... no poor all them they got horrible deaths. Stay safe Jazz and you and audiences and kill me
Not me being the most cryptic about my ghosts…
I will not say who’s good and who’s „bad” since it would ne a spoiler, Bluestreak is alive and as well as he can be. His brothers are still a very touchy subject for him. It’s kinda understandable since both of them had a pretty unclear and nasty ways of dissappearing.
Honestly I will admit that I have drawn some cool artwork for this fic and niw I am scared that the fic itself will not deliver but that anexiety might be induced generally by irl stuff that is kinda messy rn. It will be all dobę by the end of June, so July is the month that I will go full force on this project.
I am still thinking if I should first write down the whole thing and them post it or just go chapter to chapter, so lemme know

could i request the reader spiking tfa ratchet? any formatting of writing is good, thank you <3
Oh, you sure as hell can, it's taken some time to reply to this, but I do love to write for the grumpy old man. I'm assuming by the way this is worded that this is for a Cybertronian reader and since it took me so long to answer you're getting a full one-shot. I really hope you enjoy this, and thank you for requesting.
TFA Ratchet x Cyb!GN!Reader
Ratchet's a grumpy old man, that's a fact almost everyone who knew him would agree on. And while it could be a little disheartening sometimes, knowing what he had lived through already usually made people back off and give him a break. Not that that was something you were interested in right this moment. Giving Ratchet a break, that is.
No, rather, were you focused on the way the older bot writhered under you. When the two off you had started, he had still complained that he was getting too old for interfacing outside a berth, but you had still managed to convince him to lean over the medical berth. After having made sure the door was locked securely, your attention had been fully on your older lover and the fact that even with all his grumbling he was leaning over the medical berth. A fact that made a smirk splay on your faceplate. Leisurely making your way over, you took the opportunity to gaze at your lover's backside before finally reaching your wanted position behind him.
As much as he had protested about the location in the lead up to this moment, he now was rather happy to reveal his interfacing equipment to you, and there was no hesitation before your digits made their way into his valve. Petting the soft lips of his valve, it is no hard burden to pet and stroke his entrance until it was wet enough to comfortably push in a digit and then two and after a short time a third. Pumping said digits and stretching the callipers of his valve until it easy to push them between the silken folds, and each pump is accompanied by a wet noise that made your medic's faceplate heat in an adorable way.
Ratchet was by far not innocent, but there was still something different to fragging around while still a student and being an old veteran slowly and languidly being spread open on a thick spike. It wasn't the first time the two of you were interfacing either, but still Ratchet found his faceplate warming again and again, this time no different.
A low groan left the old bot as you bottomed out with a relieved and pleased moan of your own, enjoying the tight heat around your spike a for a little until the surrounding frame started to shift and wriggle in an attempt to gain more stimulation. Seeing this as your cue, you pull back out slowly and thrust back in with a quick snap, repeating the process, each hard thrust pushed a moan out of the old medic. A symphony as your own keens and moans enter the air around both of you.
Increasing the pace and leaning over the bend frame, your derma close around the unbroken part of his chevron, glossa soft and determined. Increasing the pace, one of your servos catches your weight on the table, while the other one sneaked down to Ratchet's valve seeking out his anterior node with a clear goal in mind. Flicking and pinching the sensitive little nub, it is clear that Ratchet's overload is approaching alongside your own, as his valve ripples around your spike with each movement.
With a final pinch and twist to his node and another hard thrust while you bit done on his chevron, he is overloading with force, lubricant squeezing out besides your spike as you increase your thrust to frag him right through his overload and directly into your own. A whimper leaving the usually so composed older bot as hot transfluid filled his inside, a last pinch to his sensitive anterior node has both of you moan as his valve clamps down around your spike tightly and drags you into an overload of your own.
