Issue #1: The Date That Took a Wild Left Turn 🚩

Hi friends, and welcome to my first storytime newsletter!

If you’re here from Instagram, you probably already saw the reel that kicked this off. If not—buckle in. Because this story went from cute and curious to cartel and blocked in less than 48 hours.

Let’s get into it.

🗓️ The Setup: Bumble Promises

I matched with a guy who seemed absolutely ideal on paper. He said he was 38, tall, funny, and shared my interest in culture and travel. He seemed super fascinated by the fact that I’m Mexican—my olive skin, my background, and the assumption that I might want to return “home” someday.

We agreed to meet halfway in Oxford (which, for me, was a bit of a mission—I’m usually a local-dates-only kind of girl), and everything felt like it had potential.

🚩 The Date: Cute… Until It Wasn’t

He greeted me with compliments and charm. Sure, he wasn’t as tall as he’d claimed, and later, I’d find out he wasn’t even the age he listed. He was actually 48—not 38. But I kept an open mind. The date itself wasn’t bad. We laughed, we talked, we connected.

That is, until he asked how many other guys I’d brought to Oxford. Not in a playful way, either. It felt like a weird insecurity pop quiz. I played it off with a joke, but something inside me started to itch.

📞 The Call That Changed Everything

The next day, after barely texting, he called me. What started as a casual chat quickly went sideways. He expressed disappointment that I didn’t want to move back to Mexico. Then—completely casually—he mentioned that some of his friends were involved with the cartel. No big deal, right? 🙃

That was the moment my gut said: this is not safe. I knew my boundaries, my ethics, and my family history (which includes a judge and government workers), and there was no way I was entertaining someone who saw that as acceptable.

❌ The Final Red Flag

To top it all off, I later found out he’d blocked me—on WhatsApp, Instagram, everything. Why? Because I had told him I’d dated Black men before. Apparently, that was a problem for him.

So the “perfect” date unraveled into a racist, dishonest, and potentially dangerous situation.

💭 What I Learned (So You Don’t Have To)

✨ Your gut always knows.

✨ Don’t downplay red flags just to “give someone a chance.”

✨ Values aren’t negotiable.

✨ And no matter how cute someone seems—if they bring up cartels casually, run. 💨

President’s Day off <3 

San Diego is always warm and sunny, unfortunately even in the Winter! For us season-looking fashionistas, it means we really cant embrace, boots, tights, sweaters, scarfs and coats! BUT this Monday, the stars aligned and we got sun, wind and Cold weather!! I looked for my warmest sweater dress, high boots and a fabulous hat! Needles to say, I was in Heaven!
