On July 4, 2018, I released an art-rock record of four songs titled “Lonely Island Caldera” under my rock star moniker “Rory Rorshak.” Initially, the record had only been available via a pair of headphones that dangled from a 4-foot print of this paper-doll miniature shoot at my gallery exhibit. After 2 years of existing obscurely, I arranged to have it distributed via Spotify and the other usual streaming networks. It was a quiet and inconsequential record release, noted with a text-only email to an old fan-list that I’d preserved over the years. The record is a raw, live-recorded performance of me leading a few talented musicians through my strange songbook. It’s a heavy listen that was left purposely under-produced, and spacious.
