Fire Emblem Archetypes and Tropes: Prototype Post

My last pre-Xenoblade X DE hyperfixation.

When it comes to Fire Emblem, they use and reuse archetypes a lot. This creates a familiarity and consistency that makes most games great to jump in as a new player, and for veteran players to settle in comfortably for new releases. I see archetypes coming in two forms worth analyzing. The first is archetypes that are purely story/character centric, they aren't strictly related to the class said characters occupy. The second is what I call gameplay-implication, where the classes that characters occupy across the series can infer commonalities in personality when grouped together.

The purpose of this post is half to be funny, and half to have a compilation of tropes and stuff that I want to have on hand in case I want to do deeper analysis of them in the future. And also because I have a vendetta against the fandom wiki and TV Tropes for both of their FE Archetypes pages lol.

I'm not covering the following games: Fire Emblem Heroes, Fire Emblem Warriors 1, Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes, or Tokyo Mirage Sessions. Though given the nature of Fire Emblem Heroes specifically, I might look at cross game interactions in that game to see if it reinforces certain points I may have in the future.

The * next to names is for characters where I think they act as a significant subversion of the trope they occupy for one reason or another, and the ? next to names is for characters I'm iffy on when it comes to if they actually belong there.

The good thing about making these things broad at the start, is that-at least to me-paring down is significantly easier than building individual cases. It's less work to delete misnamed candidates after listing them like this, than it is trying to deeply analyze everything from the jump.

Which characters do you feel fit with the trope "Beware The Nice Ones"?

Context:

Sometimes, trying to Break the Cutie has consequences. Sometimes, the nicest person in the story gets pushed to the limit of what they can take... and the results are not pretty.

The sweeter, gentler, more polite, more peaceful, and overall nicer a character is, the more worse it will likely be for whomever is in the vicinity when they're subject to one round too many of constantly provoking them, or hitting their Berserk Button / Rage Breaking Point. What was once a sweet and nice individual suddenly snaps and becomes something far worse than the Big Bad could have expected.

Think it's called Unstoppable Rage for nothing?

If I had to choose more, then Corrin (Conquest version specifically because if memory serves it actually happens there but even if not I headcanon its most likley for that Corrin), Chrom, Robin from FE

Silver from the sonic series counts, as does Sonic specifically the version from the movies

Do you think you have a type of character you gravitate towards? Oh absolutely. I think it's fully obvious the kinds of characters I love. Characters with deep issues that are generally misunderstood or hated by fans for various reasons. I love figuring out what they've got going on and doing them justice.

What do you believe you enjoy writing the most? I like writing villains! Weird off-putting characters that are volatile.

Favorite TOA-related memory: Huge fan of the time during KKE we suggested tying a rope to Ephidel and throwing them down into the abyss below with a lantern. Which I'm super glad we didn't because there were dangerous monsters down there and poor Ephidel would've gotten torn apart.

Interesting, I thought your favorite FE game was Three Houses. Do you have any favorite characters and/or classes in Awakening?

Oh no I honestly think Three Houses is overrated. Like it's a good game but it's nowhere near the best fire emblem game.

My favorite characters are pretty basic lol it's F!Robin, Chrom, Lucina, and Owain

Oh and Grima. I like Grima, Heroes has done a lot for me in that department

I also really like Olivia design-wise, she was my first "character obsession who I drew a lot." And in hindsight Flavia contributed a LOT to my bisexual awakening.

In terms of classes I really had a lot of fun with Assassin and Dark Flier. Lissa wasn't great as a War Cleric but I LOVED her look and giving her a big 'ol Axe. Oh, and I loved the base Mercenary design, especially the girls. The series hasn't had a generic class design I've loved as much as that since (other three houses complaint is that the class looks are fucking DRIPLESS)

I actually did a personal project back in middle school where I drew like. The various starting classes but if Robin had a unique design in all of them which got me to appreciate them a lot lol, I ended up really liking how my cavalier looked despite armor being like. The worst thing to draw

Oh also the boots all the Manaketes wear have been like a design obsession of mine for years I keep putting in outfits because I always thought the knee-high boots and with the little heart pin and the socks were a great combo

Since the interface for image posting is better than a decade ago and I can use the Robin Customizer website to make images better than what I can take with the camera (even if I have a phone now), I figured it's a good time to just create a new masterpost for all Avatars. The first is Teefa, named after my Head Muse.  She’s married to Lon’qu because I have a big obsession with Swordsmasters.

The girl with blue hair is Lufia, named for the heroine of the first game in the series of the same name.  She’s married to Chrom and anyone who knows said series would get the joke behind both her name, looks and marriage immediately.

The green-haired shota is Miath, my first male Avatar.  He’s a shota obviously because he married Nowi.  Wanted to have two overpowered Manakete daughters of destruction without feeling guilty about marrying 1000 year old legal jail bait.

Lennalt is the second of the male Avatars.  He eventually got married to Panne, though a bit late because I am the moron who didn’t plan an Avatar/Sumia file in the ones where Chrom marries another girl, and am too lazy to shuffle pairings.  And was NOT going to be trying a shuffle on a file where Chrom is marrying Olivia…

This here is Rthyin, unfortunate recipient of a crazy name.  And married to Tharja because I am evil and have Trainwreck Syndrome.  But in reality, I just ran a Four Sorcerer run and left it at that!

Next up is me returning to parody world with Rutee.  Yes, I married her to Donnel since she’s named after a character who does marry a farmboy and has a hyperactive son.  And ran her as a Trickster since Rutee was a healer/thief.

Talath was decided completely by a Randomizer.  I Randomized her gender, appearance, and even who she and everyone else married!  After getting rid of duplicates I’d already done, I had the file she’s in.  Due to this stuff, she’s actually a Sage and is married to Virion of all freaking people!  He’s…actually pulled his weight for once, probably to impress his very particular wife (it is Virion after all!)

My camera did NOT like trying to snap a photo of Saphira, so I can finally share a good image of her.  She’s married to Stahl, and is FINALLY after so long back to my standard class usage of Dark Flier.  Hey!  I have a full family of riders this file…

Next is Maylanth (May for short). The first Reset Run when I just marry all the opposite gender children and Spot Pass units. Her ultimate husband at the end was Gaius, although that was at the very end of the game.

Danny was also a reset run, this time with a male Avatar. He ended up marrying Emmeryn and I went really screwed up with this by having Morgan marry Yarne (considering their Supports...). Other fun fact...his full name is Daenerys because when I got a bunch of Avatar names from the Dragon Name Generator GoT wasn't yet around and I'd never heard of "A Song of Ice and Fire" and didn't realize this related to a female character...

Beroan's run came about since I didn't do Priam's Supports since I didn't want to do his battle with a sub-optimal lesser party or grind the kids on a second file. Since the servers are switching off, I have to do this beforehand and chose a new file over just grinding Danny's 2nd gen. Marries Cordelia and gives his fetching purple hair to Severa.

Nveryll was my curious test to see if the SpotPass data I'd downloaded could still be loaded once the servers went down despite my earlier desperation. She marries Henry and I can only guess, since Henry's endings all talk about him being a surprisingly good father, both of them dote on Morgan endlessly.

Fashionably Late and Silly FEH Brave Series Analysis on Byleth because I have brainrot so help me Glob

This has been scratching my brainbox for a while, so now I'm gonna let it out into this hellvoid.

While the main gimmick of the Brave Unit series is the annual voting poll determining who gets one, they nevertheless follow the same two consistent themes: Legacy, and Growth. The costumes that these Brave Chosen(tm) don are either the pinnacle of their promotions from their games, or they don clothing hearkening to a parent, hero, or an ancestor whose deeds they are trying to emulate.

In order by year, we have:

Brave Ike: Wears Greil's outfit. Part of Ike's development is inheriting his father's mercenary company, and thus his legacy - something he had been reared to do for years. His legacy begins when he accepts taking Princess Elincia under his mercenaries' protection, and because of the outcome of the Mad King's War, the mercenaries under Ike become legendary within a mere three years.

Brave Lyn: Invokes her Blade Lord promotion, but instead wields the bow Mugalir, as bows are bestowed upon her as her secondary weapon. Mugalir is also the Divine Weapon tied to Sacae, and a big point of Lyn's development is embracing her Sacaean pride even when being thrust into the world of the Lycian nobility.

Brave Roy: Wearing his father Eliwood's outfit. Like his father, Roy comes to save his homeland on a grand scale and become the new Marquess Pherae - and he goes even further than his father as his ideal ending not only rids the land of Bern and Zephiel, but also frees the dragon Idunn from her fate as a soulless War Dragon, and also learns the full truth of what mankind had done to dragons during ancient times.

Brave Lucina: Wearing her Great Lord outfit and donning a spear (secondary weapon), signaling the growth she has when spent out of her doomed future with Chrom and the Shepherds. Lucina's gambit of time travel pays off, even when things seem doomed to repeat themselves - as sparing Robin turned out to be the contradictory key to averting Grima's reign of terror.

Brave Hector: Wearing his brother Uther's outfit. Hector is initially reluctant taking on the duties his noble title bears, but once Uther dies, he has no choice but to replace him - and he does so proudly, going above and beyond to protect both his friends and his home. It speaks volumes that he is willing to bear the axe Armads' curse of an early death if it means he can protect those he cares about.

Brave Ephraim: Wearing his father Fado's outfit. Similar to Hector, Ephraim is an irresponsible prince who is forced to reconsider his views on the world and behavior once the Grado Empire is driven out of Renais - one poignant scene is how Seth reminds him that the people of Renais are displeased to have him back, and their cause for celebration is that their puppet ruler (a man named Orson) is dead. The truth about Lyon's turn to darkness further reinforces Ephraim's need to change for the better.

Brave Veronica: This is a rendition of Veronica that lacks the pronounced childish behavior that her story rendition carries, as the "main" Veronica's main goal is the conquest of Askr via enslavement of Heroes, and is willing to side with dangerous, powerful beings to do so. She is still ruthless, but not as destructively so compared to her story counterpart - the only holdover is her love for her older brother Bruno.

Brave Micaiah: Wears the robes of her third-tier class (Light Priestess) and also has Yune, the Goddess of Chaos, residing within her. Micaiah's good intentions of freeing Daein from Begnion leads her down what could have been a dark path, courtesy of the ensnarement of a Blood Pact Pelleas had made with Begnion. Her bond with Yune and the crisis caused by Ashera's awakening steers her in a better direction, allowing for her to help break the pact. Her love of Daein also has her ascend as its queen instead of taking up the position of Begnion's Apostle that was her initial birthright.

Brave Eliwood: Here he's wearing the outfit from his coronation (seen in Blazing Blade's epilogue), and the description invokes his father; He also has elements of his Knight Lord promotion with his horse and his lance (gained as a secondary weapon). While his growth is on a smaller scale, Eliwood nevertheless grows his muster and determination even when his loved ones are killed (quite traumatically!), and it's his kindness combined with his bravery that allows for him and his army to defeat Nergal.

Brave Camilla: This is a Camilla who actually steps up as Nohr's Queen - something that never happens in her home game, as on Birthright she finds herself unsuited to rule and has Leo take up the role as reigning King. Nevertheless, she still grows on Conquest once Garon's true nature comes to light, and she is the fourth of Corrin and Azura's siblings to join their cause on Revelation, accepting the presence of Valla/Touma with relative ease. It isn't farfetched to believe she'd make for some decent kind of leader, given her combat prowess and maternal instincts.

Brave Edelgard: Wears her third-tier class dress, the Emperor (or Kaiserin for maximum imagery if you're playing the Japanese version of the game). Unlike most of the characters here, Edelgard, being the Red Emperor of her game, does not grow as a person - indeed, having Byleth by her side only seems to reinforce her view of the Nabateans needing to be dead, and she has someone with Nabatean blood to hold under her thumb. As it were, her "growth" on Crimson Flower is her actually getting to succeed in her conquest of Fódlan and live a life of luxury afterward, getting to keep both that as well as succeed where her power-hungry father failed.

Brave Dimitri: Wears his third-tier armor of his Great Lord Class. Dimitri's growth among Houses' lords is the most dramatic: After five years of torture, exile, and auditory hallucinations, he is made to atone for his prior misdeeds, but also learns that yes, he is allowed to live for himself and desire for himself, and it's these two traits hand-in-hand that allow him to become the kind yet strong king his father once was, instead of a man whose heart bled so strongly that he grew behaviors that drove him to s*icidal ideation.

Brave Claude: Wears his third-tier armor of his Barbarossa class, which is explicitly cited to be Almyran in its description. Claude maintains some unsavory aspects in achieving his goals, but on Verdant Wind, his fixation on finding truths leads him to a revelation that actually forces him to take pause and determine whether or not he's wholly justified in his approach, especially considering what the Emperor he's fighting against wants. He may still tout some mental superiority and trust issues, but he also shows signs of actually opening up about his Almyran heritage, especially with this armor.

Brave Lysithea: Wears a Gremory dress in her favored colors of purple and white, with said class being most suited to her. Lysithea's growth (or lack thereof if poached on Crimson Flower) is not dramatic, but she nevertheless opts to at least try to fight for a better future, even if it is mainly for her parents' sake. Through her bonds with others, this growth goes further when some come forward to offer her even more, or better yet, help her solve her conundrum with her two Crests.

Brave Marth: Wearing the garb of his ancestor (and idol), Anri. Marth has a classic hero's journey par excellence, beginning as a naïve prince who nevertheless is distraught over the pillaging of both his home kingdom Altea and his adopted home of Talys (with the original games having him almost be more childish, even), growing into an effective and charismatic army leader, then Prince of a suzerain state forced to acknowledge the tyranny of Archanea's new Emperor, to two-time savior of the continent. And unlike his ancestor, whose life ended in tragedy and loneliness, Marth lives on as both lover and beloved.

Brave Eirika: Wears an outfit evocative of her brother Ephraim, but with elements of her own Great Lord promotion. Eirika is forced to grow from a sheltered, peaceful, negotiable princess into a warrior and leader fast, and she adapts with an enviable amount of skill and speed. Even when ensnared by the Demon King's wiles and everyone casting doubt on her, she stands proudly on her own, and in a way, is more deserving to lead Renais than her brother.

Brave Chrom: Wears his Great Lord promotion and dons a spear, much like his daughter Lucina. While Chrom is cited to be a strong, firm militia leader at the start of his journey, he is also brash and can even be cruel. His companionship with Robin and the rapidly changing circumstances around him - especially that of when Plegia invades Ylisse, and there's also that mysterious masked youth to consider - force him into a leadership role where he must cast aside his overly-strong hand in exchange for temperance. Robin's presence assists, and this growth continues two years later with the Valm campaign and the resurrection of Grima.

Brave Seliph: Wears his father Sigurd's Knight Lord garb. If Sigurd's tale is a deconstruction of Marth's story, Seliph's is a full-blown rebuild done to set things right. He has his family's legacy thrust upon him, and the ills of war and imposter syndrome plague him at every corner. He does so proudly, even growing a little along the way when it comes to vengeance.

Now we get to the odd ones out. Brave Alm (rises up from disgruntled resistance leader to kindhearted king) and Brave Celica (rises from devoted to a dangerous degree to more balanced and even braver than before) are more meta in their legacies in that they're wearing their Gaiden outfits but are designed by the artist for the remake (Hidari). For something more technical, their regular promotions or overclasses from Echoes would fit, but I can't complain when these fits arguably almost look better than their default remake fits, especially Celica's.

Brave Tiki almost goes backwards in that she's an adult wearing the same clothes she wore as a child; something like Naga's gown or even Bantu's cloak would probably be more appropriate, given that Awakening-era Tiki has grown up to be quite the spiritual leader after millennia of fear and isolation - the fact that she can be a bit silly at times doesn't deter from that fact either.

Brave Marianne is using a class that has absolutely nothing to do with her character or growth (Dancer), and she's using a random tome instead of using Blutgang, her bloodline's ancestral weapon (This is especially silly if we consider that the main weapon for Dancers in both 3H and most other games is, in fact, swords...). While her default line makes her a Gremory, given her boons with swords, magic, and cavalry, something like a Holy Knight would fit better.

The Gatekeeper was more or less botted into the game. At least we get some serious flexing from the great Akihiro Yamada out of it.

All that leaves at this time is Byleth. I've heard complaints that this Brave Byleth is in Sothis' regalia, and not wearing an outfit evocative of her father Jeralt. Why is she "forced" into this legacy? After all, two Byleths were up for voting, and the pre-fusion, teal-haired Byleth won. Clearly, she was better off as a mercenary, right?

Yeah, no.

Through a career change, learning about her heritage (as messed up as parts of it are), and an exposure to faith, even if cursory, Byleth grows from a listless, unemotive sellsword with no prospects to a teacher loved by their community, and later on an (accidental) spiritual leader. While their opinion on the matter is limited by the lack of voice, Byleth is quite content as a teacher and takes no issue with their newfound leadership as long as they're given some due thanks. She isn't just happiest with her students either, but she's also quite happy whenever Sothis speaks to her, and she is saddened immensely once Sothis vanishes forever.

(Ignoring the fact that this is an S-Support, Byleth is saddened when Sothis vanishes, and here she says she was lonely without her. And lest we forget she cried into Sothis' arms after Jeralt died?)

In contrast, she despises her title as "the Ashen Demon." You know, the same "badass" title that many fans seem to think she'd be better off with?

Byleth may be inspired by Ike, and Jeralt Greil, but they are neither. Byleth's journey is extremely dissimilar to Ike's. And Jeralt, on top of just plain being shallower as a character, is nowhere near the father Greil is, nor would he ever hope to be.

Byleth's life would've been miserable and reductive had she continued to be a mercenary.

Fire Emblem Awakening: Reclass Relation to Characters

I’ve gushed about this already in Fates, and 3H has a similar concept in regards to skill levels and such, but Awakening also does this, so I thought to lay it out.

Putting it under the cut because it got really long lol.

Chrom: Cavalier and Archer. Typical heroic classes, access to all physical weapon types, almost all of the resulting classes have sword access for Falchion.

Lissa: Pegasus Knight because she’s a pure maiden, Troubadour because she’s a member of high society + connection to Maribelle. Could also relate to her staff training.

Frederick: Knight because he’s an Ylissean knight. Wyvern Rider because he has a subtle inclination for violence.

Sully: Myrmidon because she was trained by Frederick. Wyvern Rider because she’s a crass bruiser who loves to fight people.

Virion: Wyvern Rider because Wyverns are native to Valm in Awakening’s time and he’s from Rosanne. Mage because he’s actually a high society noble.

Stahl: Archer because he prefers letting other people have the spotlight. Myrmidon because he was trained by Frederick.

Vaike: Thief and Barbarian because he was a poor schmuck raised in the slums.

Miriel: Troubadour and Dark Mage gives her access to all Tome wielding classes, sans Tactician and Dark Flier, so she really wants to use any kind of magic to uncover the universe’s secrets.

Sumia: Knight because she has a stubborn streak and wants to defend the people she loves. Cleric because she’s super kind and wants to support others in several ways.

Kellam: Thief because he’s never able to be seen. Priest because he likes helping people.

Donnel: Fighter because he was never properly trained to fight. Mercenary because he had incredible combat potential.

Lon’qu: Thief because he doesn’t like small talk and keeps parts of his past hidden. Wyvern Rider because he’s from Chon’sin.

Ricken: Cavalier and Archer because he looks up to Chrom so much that he has the same reclass options.

Maribelle: Pegasus Knight because she’s a pure maiden. Mage because she’s a high society noble.

Panne: Thief because her race is near extinct and so she keeps hidden. Wyvern Rider to connect her to animals, and to evoke a “foreign/outsider” image among Ylisseans.

Gaius: Fighter because he’s uncouth. Myrmidon because he has lots of experience in spite of his appearance.

Cordelia: Mercenary because she’s an exceptionally talented fighter. Dark Mage because she has hidden feelings that she’s a bit ashamed of. Having these classes also means she has access to every weapon type. Genius indeed.

Gregor: Barbarian because he looks like a brute. Myrmidon because he’s an experienced fighter, so much so that he nearly beat Basilio in becoming West-Khan.

Nowi: Mage because she has mystical powers as a Manakete. Wyvern Rider to reference her heritage + to give her a “foreign/outsider” image.

Libra: Mage because he has surprisingly cynical views on things sometimes (Natural/Anima/Earthly magic vs Healing being tied to faith/religion). Dark Mage because he has a dark past he keeps hidden away.

Tharja: Knight to keep Robin safe directly and Archer to keep Robin safe from far away.

Anna: Archer because she’s utilitarian. Mage because she’s a mysterious constant in the FE series.

Olivia: Myrmidon because she’s a surprisingly talented sword fighter. Pegasus Knight because she’s a pure maiden.

Cherche: Troubadour and Cleric because she’s trained as a domestic servant for a noble house.

Henry: Barbarian and Thief because he was raised by animals for a good portion of his life and has a terrible past and twisted personality that affected his morality.

Say’ri: Pegasus Knight because she’s a pure maiden. Wyvern Rider because she’s from Chon’sin.

Tiki: Wyvern Rider and Mage, same as Nowi; keeping in touch with her heritage and her mystical abilities. The former class could also be because she resides in Valm now.

Basilio: Barbarian because he’s a crass warrior king. Knight because he’s as stubborn as an ox.

Flavia: Thief because Ferox has rough-and-tumble warriors as opposed to noble, knightly ones like Ylisse. Knight because she’s just as stubborn as Basilio.

Gangrel: Barbarian because he grew up on the streets. Dark Mage because he’s fucking nuts.

Walhart: Knight because he doesn’t submit to anyone until killed or beaten hard enough. Wyvern Rider because he’s Valmese.

Emmeryn: Pegasus Knight because she’s a pure maiden. Troubadour because she’s high society. Also the same classes that Lissa has, gives off a cute sisterly vibe.

Yen’fay: Wyvern Rider because he’s from Chon’sin. Archer because he keeps himself detached and separate from the rest of the party-especially Say’ri-because he’s not originally from this world.

Aversa: Wyvern Rider because of her ruthless personality (maybe she’s originally Valmese, too). Dark Mage because she’s noted to be gifted with magic.

Priam: Myrmidon because he’s a great swordfighter. Fighter because he’s a fucking hobo who lives to fight stronger people lol. The classes also let him use swords and axes to keep his connection to Ike.

And while child characters just inherit classes from their parents, some start with different classes, and that ties into personalities as well.

Owain: Myrmidon because he’s trained in House Ylisse’s sword techniques.

Inigo: Mercenary cuz you obviously can’t have two dancers, but he probably inherited Olivia’s skill with a blade regardless.

Brady: Priest because of gender locks, but also cuz he’s sensitive under the tough guy persona and scary face.

Kjelle: Knight because she canonically sucked at riding horses.

Severa: Mercenary because she wanted to escape Cordelia’s shadow.

Noire: Archer because of her reclusive personality.

a love letter to fire emblem & what the series has meant to me as a whole

I'm an Awakening baby. My first experience with the series was FE13 and I went in completely blind after finding the game under the Christmas tree one year. I haven't looked back since.

I can remember starting the game the day I unwrapped it and not wanting to put it down at all when it was time to head to my family's holiday party. The form of storytelling and the world building all drew me in and I loved the gameplay, but it was ultimately the characters that made me fall for the series as a whole. The supports were so fun. To me, there was no better feeling than finishing a chapter and seeing a ton of !'s on the support menu. I still feel that way when I play all the games.

There's no one in the Awakening cast that I hate, I genuinely adored the entire roster. Like I said, I went in blind. I didn't know marriage was a thing at first, so my Robin accidentally got roped into a marriage with Chrom. The kids popping up was a genuine surprise but I loved it. I spent over 300 hours in that game trying to match the most optimal pairs to get the most over powered galeforce kids imaginable.

With that said, I also found the marriage mechanics in Awakening to be bit lacking. I was 13 and only just growing into myself. I wanted Lissa & Maribelle to kiss and Sumia & Cordelia to get together. I made a Male Robin just so I could marry the female characters.

So you can imagine how I felt when I discovered the Gay Awakening Hack by UnassumingVenusaur.

There was something so special about finding a community of people who felt just like you, were just like you, in the sense that we were a group of queer/LGBTQ+ kids all trying to make videogames a more inclusive space for people like us. That community that UV built was so impactful on me as a teenager. It took some of the loneliness away.

I was there when Fates was just releasing. I followed the fan translations to the point where I sometimes still refer to the Fates characters with their Japanese names (I mean really? Azura over Aqua? come on now). I was so excited we were going to get gay options in Fire Emblem that I picked up the game when it released, before I went on spring break and my family took a little roadtrip for a vacation.

Only to find out that they had prevented the same sex couples from having kids like everyone else.

The Gay Fates Hack came up quick in development on UV's blog. They added more options, more pairings, and fixed the kid mechanic so that all couples would have a family. Once again, there was something very validating? normalizing? about just watching the Gay Fates/Awakening hacks gain so much support.

Fast forward to college. I didn't know a lot of people in real life that were into Fire Emblem. If you subtract the first person I dated and the one measly conversation we had about it, then I hadn't met another fan in person. But one of my closest friends in college turned out to be a huge fan of the series. Neither of us had ever found another FE fan out in the wild. We stayed friends for all of college and we're still friends to this day. And we dragged a bunch of our other friends down the rabbit hole with us.

When covid hit, I found myself alone on campus when all of my friends elected to stay at home/online for classes during the semester. No one tells you this, but college is typically a very lonely time in your life. Especially when there's a pandemic.

My roommates didn't even return to campus. I had the apartment largely to myself and no friends to share it with. But something that I did have? I had just gotten Three Houses for Christmas. That same friend I mentioned earlier had been playing it for a while now and we essentially had parallel playthroughs of Crimson Flower going on at the same time. They couldn't be with me on campus but I still felt connected with my friend. We talked about the game nonstop together, sent one another tea time guides and memes about our different runs. The pandemic was horribly lonely but Fire Emblem had offered me another sense of community to hold onto.

And when my friend got really sick and started treatment, we still had Fire Emblem in common. They couldn't come back to campus at all for our last few semesters. I graduated without my best friend with me but we never stopped talking or playing Fire Emblem together. And when I didn't know what to say or how to offer my support, I knew we could just talk about our silly little strategy anime game and judge the other person's taste in silly anime women.

Fire Emblem Engage is releasing this Friday and the amount of inclusion that it's said to include will be a new phase for Fire Emblem. A definite step in the right direction that previous games had only just begun to dip their toes into. And you can trust that me and my little group of friends will be talking about it together while we play from states apart.

I'm excited to see how this series will develop and grow alongside me and what other friendships I'll be able to form because of it. And, I guess I just wanted to say thank you for the good times, both in the past and in the future.

Thanks you a lot! I'm not exactly a new players since I'm a big fan of Houses and I played half of Shadows of Valentia but I'm still very lost by how wide the serie is, so it helps a lot.

It's quite the coincidence you're recommending FE7 and Awakening because it's the one I tried haphazardly... I even just recruited Severa today! ( Why doesn't she have support with Lucina :( )

Fair, fair! Shadows of Valentia is probably a good one to come back to after the Archanea games and Awakening (especially since some stuff from Awakening has an explanation in SoV).

Excellent work on recruiting Severa, too! I've seen too many people not realize she is absolutely dead serious that she's not coming along if you don't play by her rules. Brat. 😆 She can go to time out with Laurent and Brady (Brady's paralogue on Lunatic, trying to keep all the villagers alive, made me cry more than Apotheosis. 😫) Severa and Lucina can have a chat in the Hot Springs Scramble! And they have some great scenes together in Future Past, too, even if those are an alternate timeline version of them. (Plus Severa's ending there absolutely made me cry the first time I finished it. Same with Selena's Heart Seal class in Fates. And speaking of Fates, taking Selena, Odin, and Laslow, as well as Ophelia, into Before Awakening is an absolute must!)

The DLC in Awakening is superb all around, honestly. "Le sigh." "Gag me with a trebuchet!" "Severa... Please don't jump in. Please, please don't jump in. Don't. Do. It." 🤣 Plus the sweet scene between Robin and spouse in either Summer or Hot Springs Scramble. And the only chance to have interaction between Chrom, Lissa, and also [spoiler] with [spoiler]. Sumia messing with Miriel (er... maaaaaybe just messing. I hope just messing...). Seashells! Lissa's hat! Lucina's dyed hair! So much fun.

Anyway... I hope you enjoy it and any others you play! They're quite different from Three Houses in many ways, but still a ton of fun!

For whatever reasons, the Knight class makes people taller... So Kellam and Kjelle have two heights. In regards to this note, I have checked loads of classes on the others (as well as these two), they are consistent with their starter class height. Or for Kellam and Kjelle, any other class.

I figured people might also want to see a chart which shows just Robin in their various heights. So enjoy that one too~

Finally, here’s a sheet that shows the three ways you can potentially work out their heights in cm and inches. Starting with assuming Anna’s height is always the same through the series (168 cm/5′6″), to Stahl being average in every physical, including height for a man (175 cm/5′9″).

Please note, getting all of these took a lot of time, as I had to get them to be in the basic unmoved pose, on the correct side of the barracks. Along with obviously playing the game a few times to get different versions of Robin.
