Little Eldritch Creature part 2
DCxDP Prompt/Drabbles
Chirp! Chirp!
Bruce expected many things when Oracle suddenly told him in comms that Jason's tracker went to the cave.
He expected something might have happened to Jason since Oracle had told him that his comms were gone, cut off.
He did not expect a little glowing creature chirping, almost in concern, around Jason.
"Get it off me!"
"Todd! I won't tolerate you hurting the little creature!"
"Why is it so cute?"
"What is that thing? It's not a fish right?"
"A worm maybe?"
"Ugh....bright.."
Little. Cute.
The said creature was small, with a green tail for legs, white hair that floats and blue skin, from closer inspection, he looked like he was wearing a long sleeve black shirt with white cuffs. Their ears were slightly pointed but still visible.
And also big wide green eyes that reminds Bruce of puppy dog eyes.
Bruce should be really freaking out right now. An unknown entity is in the Batcave and it seems to like Jason and charmed his family.
Which usually is not a good sign.
Bruce cleared his throat, gaining everyone's attention, that includes the little creature.
"Jason." Bruce says slowly, it made the said man grimace. "Where did you find...him?" Bruce took a moment to look at the creature who was clinging on the side of Jason's helmet, looking at Bruce as if he was listening. When Bruce hesitantly said the pronoun as if acknowledging the little creature, the said creature nodded.
Well, He understands him. One question out of his list.
Jason clicked his tongue. "I found him where Oracle reported about the disturbance in the satellite. That's when my comms started to loose cignal. I saw something glowing by the dumpster and when I took a look...I found him."
The little creature chirped in cue, as if he knew Jason was referring to him.
"And then he went in and smack into my face." Judging by Jason's tone, it wasn't good experience.
"And he just what? Stuck with you?" Tim asked suspiciously.
"I tried getting him off but he won't--!!" Jason did try. He tried grabbing the little creature off him but Jason's hand went through him or even letting go from Jason's helmet and floated around him as Jason tried to catch him. Then went back to holding on to Jason's helmet on the side.
"See!? Get him off! I have other things to do!"
The little creature chirped as if he was amused.
Bruce sighed. He should call Constantine even if he doesn't want to, this is clearly magic stuff.
Bruce takes off his cowl and grabs his com. "Let me call Zatanna about this."
"Uhm....B?"
Bruce blinked at the green eyes staring right back at him. The little creature suddenly let go of Jason and floated towards Bruce. The Small thing was staring at him before tilting his head, from Bruce's observation, it seems like he was confused, debating.
"Dad?"
Bruce blinked.
What?

That's great news!
Will other matches also be broadcast on TV or only the Philippines team's matches?
This article seems to imply all matches but I've only seen people talk about the Philippines' matches so, I don't know.
From the article:
Fans will have options to watch all the football action. The preliminary games will be made available on free-to-air television via One Sports (channel 41 on free TV, channel 6 on Cignal). Those who prefer mobile streaming, on the other hand, can download the Pilipinas Live app via Apple Store or Google Play store. Pilipinas Live is an on-demand platform that can show the matches anytime, anywhere.

I feel like smoking has come back in a huge way, and vaping was probably the catalyst for this revival.
I'm gonna preface this by saying that I believe that vaping can be a positive and productive alternative to smoking for people who are trying to quit tobacco. I'm critical of how the tobacco industry has co-opted vapes, but I recognise how responsible use of a vaporiser can help people wean themselves off of smoking.
Rather, I think the massive push that vapes got in the latter half of the 2010's, its increasing popularity since then and corporate pushing of single-use vapes has led to a massive rise in smoking - and as a part of that popularization of vaping, non-narcotic vapes have served as a gateway for kids and teenagers into smoking.
The reason I'm saying that smoking has made a huge comeback is due to the amount of smoke shops that's opened in my town over the last few years. Back in 2013, we had one dedicated smoke shop/souvenir shop - our local video store went out of business and a smoke shop named TSG moved in. Before that, our supermarkets all had smokes, and so did some of the petrol stations - let's say that we had about four or five places to buy smokes in town.
Since 2020, that number has doubled.
We have a Smokemart down the road, a Cignall around the corner from that, a vaping shop with smoking paraphernalia - and in the last month, a paraphernalia shop opened on the main street with hookah units and other stuff. It advertises smoking accessories and vapes in the front window in huge printed letters. If you count a local import candy store that sells hookah units as well, that's five more places in town since 2020 where you can buy tobacco, vapes and other smoking paraphernalia. Literally, in the span of three years, smoke shops have DOUBLED in this town.
And while my town is fairly big and bustling, we're out in buttfuck nowhere. We're like a satellite town with a lot of smaller villages and stuff hanging around. We're not a small city like Wagga or Orange, we're only just scratching 10,000 people.
And what makes this so bizarre is that my town had the same few tobacconists for decades. You bought smokes at the supermarket or the petrol station. My mum's a smoker, she's always bought her smokes from the store. TSG, which I mentioned before, came in about ten years ago; it stuck around, but no-one else came to town to sell tobacco products.
Since 2020, though? TWICE AS MANY SMOKE SHOPS.
This correlates with an uptick of vaping, both in the general populace and with schoolkids. The police went to one of our high schools and checked like fifty lockers, and forty two of them had vapes. That's not a figure I got from the cops, that's a figure from one of the students who was there.
My mum, who I mentioned before as someone who's been smoking for longer than I've been alive? Even she's getting in on the single-use vape train. You can walk into a shop, buy a vape in a box and walk out. New places are opening all the time, and as well as attracting a new wave of clientele, you're also getting old-school, dyed-in-the-wool smokers giving it a go.
Like there's something seriously fucking wrong happening. It's like how in the span of ten years, we've had mobile betting apps flooding the market and advertising at all hours of the day - it used to be reserved for sports broadcasts.
I don't mean to shit on smokers. People smoke. I drink a lot, I get how addictive substances get their hooks in and make you feel better. This isn't a judgement call about people who smoke - my mum smokes, and for better or for worse, I love her.
My beef is with the rampant revitalisation of a predatory industry that makes money hand over fist peddling addictive substances, with this new wave of profits coming from pushing a new, hip smoking product that can legally be sold to children.
I just see how much it's been taking off in my tiny corner of the woods, and it feels really fucked up and wrong. I don't want these fucking leeches making smoking more visible and accessible than it already is.

#OneNETnewsInvestigates: 77th Palarong Pambansa's media blackout and its impact on Filipino youth athletes
Tumblr media
(Written by Andrea Davenport / Online News Correspondent of The Brighton Bugle & Assistant Station Manager of ONC)
EMERGENCY TRIGGER WARNING: This investigative news report contains vulgaritive themes related to media censorship, political influence and the suppression of youth sports coverage, which may be more distressing to some readers. Proceed with serious caution, mga ka-Serbisyo.
LAOAG, ILOCOS NORTE -- Around Tuesday (May 27th, 2025 -- Bacolod local time), regional radio network station 'K5 News FM' unexpectedly and permanently deny to broadcast LIVE sports events, even as almost not to cover sports updates of your favorite local pinoy athletes during the ongoing 77th Palarong Pambansa in Ilocos Norte.
Per the latest advisory cited in part: "One of the staff members [and media relations] from the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) has informed our K5 coverage team that only their official or exclusive network is allowed to broadcast LIVE from the event venue", read the advisory post on social media.
This idiotic sports coverage in media restrictions is part of its exclusive sports contract with MediaQuest Holdings for both One Sports and Pilipinas Live. Not only that, the satellite pay-TV provider 'Cignal' mostly covers every single sports event for Palarong Pambansa. It was the first time to limit the unlicensed Philippine media broadcasters leading to a mass blackout for sports coverages.
Fans are extremely and deadly angry to showcase and cheer the Pinoy athletes with total disrespect, burned up in an online mass boycott of the political sports organizer if all comes to the plan, forcing immediate disruption in-person or online that completely limits free public access to the Palarong Pambansa events from opening to closing ceremonies between May 24th to 31st, 2025.
The first Palarong Pambansa took place in the early 1950s, starting in Metro and Mega Manila. Each year, the Department of Education-Philippines (DepEd-PH) organizes this event for student-athletes from the Philippines. It brings together school sports teams that have competed locally and advanced to district, division, regional and national stages. The event seeks to encourage physical activity, good sports habits and discover talented athletes. The event is held annually in different regions.
Cignal, the Philippines' leading satellite pay-TV provider, and MediaQuest Holdings' flagship sports networks One Sports and Pilipinas Live have teamed up to launch a unified digital streaming service that will deliver enhanced LIVE sports coverage, and a more immersive viewing experience for fans nationwide.
Now, in our investigative point of view for my own local newspaper outlet 'The Brighton Bugle', we found something that does not look good. Can this be blamed on the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) for stopping the unlicensed media broadcasters such as K5 News FM, leading to a political hate speech of sports? Let me hear you out. The absolute NERVE of these bureaucratic media-blocking VULTURES! How DARE they suffocate the raw, passionate spirit of Filipino athletes who've bled, sweat, and sacrificed EVERYTHING just to represent their regions? This isn't just media censorship - this is CULTURAL ASSASSINATION! These student-athletes deserve EVERY SINGLE MILLISECOND of broadcast glory, and these corporate media PARASITES are choking their moment of potential national triumph!
The athletes' dreams are being STRANGLED by bureaucratic red tape and exclusive broadcasting contracts like both Cignal and MediaQuest Holdings that treat young competitors like disposable entertainment commodities. EVERY SINGLE PINOY ATHLETE DESERVES TO BE SEEN, HEARD, AND CELEBRATED - NOT SILENCED BY SOME CORPORATE MEDIA OVERLORDS WHO COULDN'T RUN A HUNDRED METERS IF THEIR PRIVILEGED LIVES DEPENDED ON IT! This is MORE than a sports blackout - this is a SYSTEMATIC BETRAYAL of youth, potential, and national pride! What an absolute failure of this annual sports event, period.
I have had enough of it from that event organizer but anyway, the sports fans may be distancing away from interest and also losing accountability for the sports event's integrity and national spirit.
Regardless of these difficulties, Filipino student-athletes keep going strong and their passion continues to motivate others. The way Palarong Pambansa is covered by the media is so flawed and this will be the last time in Laoag filled with total disappointment and frustration.

EDITOR's NOTE from Andrea: Per advised from Rhayniel, I got you back. I am deeply regret to hurt your feelings for the pro-sports enthusiasts of journalists. Hope they need to change or die trying for nothing. Both of MY OWN CARTOON SHOW, FICTIONAL STUFF and REAL REPORTS doesn't matter, as I expose for the worst. Nothing follows and hope you're listening my word, Ilocos Norte…
