I’m almost at 100k for this interactive fiction/game that I started this month and I think that’s kinda impressive. I really want to share and talk about it because I’m proud of it but I struggle so much with my anxiety about my grammar and like… coherence? Idk.

It’s not like I put much stock into the idea of intelligence. But I have a lot of trauma around being seen and treated as stupid so it’s hard to let go of it

"Cipherjack Tuesday". Well. Kind of. Don't have much a lot of coherent cool stuff to post but I would like to talk about it anyway.

The premise is "Internet is magic" and then go off from there. Originally there was a more fantastical fairy element to it but it's shifted more towards scifi over the years. The internet is still very much magic, though, with sentient beings that exist in it that are associated with demons, fairies, angels, etc. You got goblins that steal code, devils spamming you with pop up porno game ads and scams, and Things Whispering To You on the deep web.

Most of day to day life is like, some what AR'ififed. You can't really go about the world without having something that allows you access to the Net (sometimes called the Cipher)

I always start with the magic system in my worlds, so the magic works as "code" that you construct and then 'launch' or cast. So it's like typical incantation magic where you write a spell except you don't write it on paper or use mystical ingredients, you code it, run it, and hope your rig can handle whatever you just did.

"Languages" are the 'schools' or types of magic.

Codes are cast through devices. There are different types of devices that can be used. Mainstream hardware is often severely limited by companies so Codebreakers need to jailbreak their hardware.

The device needs enough CPU power to cast certain spells. If it's too much, the device might break, burn, explode, etc.

Code also requires mental load, especially if you are casting off the cuff. You can preload spells to reduce the load but this takes a long time to set up and requires planning.

You can buy premade code or create your own. Premade code will always be weaker as it has to be designed for general usage and there's a limit to what you can find on the market.

Code can be used as many times as you want but like everything, it is susceptible to bitrot. Cheap/Low quality code will degrade fast and eventually become unusable.

Overloading yourself with too much code can cause lasting mental damage and even physical damage.

Overusing magic causes data corruption that bleeds into the real world: glitched objects, people phasing out of sync, memories overwritten.

Texas seceded first (although California claims they did it first) it didn’t go well because of infrastructure issues now they’re heavily tied to the Triad, now known as the Texas Triad

a computer virus threatened the world and it’s origins… Ohio. They used the DELETE bomb and now all that’s left is a smoking crater and is now a Glitch Zone (reality is corrupted)

a mister mouse has wakened and began his plans for his utopian police state. Florida is now ruled by a mouse mecha with a frozen head atop it. He is simply known as The Animator now.

a good chunk of what remains in DSA is owned by CostCorp. They sell every conceivable good and hold immense power and sway.

The game i'm working on is set in Eerie, which is a big city/sprawl place built in lake erie

well that's all I can think of at the moment.

i keep getting stuck on this project and that's likely because I don't talk about it to other people and get trapped in my own head, so I'm gonna try to force myself to post more about it. if you're interested in talking about it or are curious or whatever, hmu.

originally this was a tabletop setting I was gonna run but I don't get to do tabletop anymore, so now I've been writing a computer game(tm) for it. But I might do other stuff with it, who knows. it's just fun

the UI for your game looks really slick! Can you tell us a little about the world where it takes place?

thank you! i spent a long time on it, i'm not well versed in graphic design 😅

It takes place in my setting called Cipherjack. Which is like a futuristic scifi thing. I hestitate to describe it as cyberpunk but it has a lot of similar themes (lots of tech but a focus on the 'low life' and corporations are very important aspects of the world but instead of augmentations it focuses more on a social aspect. the original premise for cipherjack was "what if internet was magic" and that still holds. the internet bleeds into reality and causes all sorts of problems and there's entities that reside in the internet realmspace. Other than that it's techincally set in our world. but in the future. and with most of the united states disbanded (they blew up ohio and walt disney returns to run his facist dream city for example). the game itself is set in the city of eerie, which is built in lake erie

I hope that sounds interesting, I'm still trying to work on the elevator pitch lol.

This is the split between player characters usually. CostCorp or are you a dweller? The depths being the remains of the midwest.

There’s other stuff I need to develop. World building with real history and places is so scary…. But I wanna do it so bad 😤taking any advice at all! If I get money I’d be looking for beta readers and play testers

As for ur questions...

My fave food... probably french fries! I love getting Nacho Fries from Taco Bell (although I struggle to eat them these days since my surgery) and I always love to eat any kind of french fry. One day I really wanna try street fries.

By Memory do you mean like.. HER memories or mine? She has a lot of lore lol... her story started in the fictional year 2051 and then goes onto the current year (2080) which means I get to make up so many events. I think my fave bit with her is when she beats a man to death with a shower fixture (she ripped it off the wall). Not sure what a 'least' favorite one is, maybe when she ditches her boyfriend because it's like Wow I made the worst person ever, why is she like that (I made her this way)

Highlight of my week, hmm... You know, all the days just blur together so I'm not sure lol. I guess how much I got done for my game, cipherjack. I've been putting off a lot of the stuff with ui/screens so it's satisfying to have it done. I can now show pictures to people for proof that I'm actually making something!

I wish to like Complete something and have actual Work to show people, but here’s all the things I keep juggling back and forth…

- nightfears: horror comic about being not dead but not alive either

- toryn: dark fantasy interactive fiction game about magic that eats you

- cipherjack: scifi/cyberpunk(?) game about the internet being magic

- Saturn comic… it starts with her first team and all that

- Gretchen comic. Very horror-y since she’s got someone else living in her head now

I also had worked on a comic for Silwen but I’m bad at writing and couldn’t figure out the plot.

I never get anything done T_T I always run into the problem of not being a good writer. Idk how to improve

In cipherjack I had coded a little picrew/paper doll thing so you could create your own character

Now I’m wondering if I should for this game? 🤔 I haven’t nailed the art style for it yet, so it’s up in the air.
