Mushy May Day 6: Bitching/Gossip
Mushy May put together by the lovely @forlorn-crows <3
Cirrus isn't certain she can handle everything going wrong on this tour. Aether stays on the line to reassure her that everything will be fine. 600 words.
divider by @ghuleh-recs <3
Cirrus picks up her phone the moment it rings, not even bothering to check caller ID. She doesn’t have to. There are only two people in the world that have the privilege of not getting put on silence and actually having a ringtone. And Cirrus wants nothing more to speak to either one of them right now.
“Hello,” she says, tucking herself into her bunk and pulling a blanket around herself. She pulls the privacy curtain shut. “How goes it.”
Aether laughs on the other line. It’s just as warm as if he were in the room with her, even through the tinny tone of her phone’s speaker. “It’s certainly going, dearheart. You want the news here, or you want to tell me yours first?”
Cirrus takes a moment, listening to her packmates settling into their bunks for a night on the road. “You first, I think. Just want to hear you for a bit.”
He sighs. “I know.”
They sit in the silence for a moment, and Cirrus laughs under her breath as she hears Dew bickering with Rain and Mountain. “How’s Cue holding up?”
“Your mate is doing just fine, love,” Aether promises, and Cirrus feels a weight lift from the center of her chest. “Misses you to the City and back, of course, but she’s okay.”
Cirrus nods even though she knows he can’t see her. “That’s good.”
“Cee’s still a little rough, not being on the road, and Swiss still isn’t sure he’s doing the right thing. I’ve got him working in the infirmary with the little kits.”
“Givin’ him a purpose that’s not just helping Copia.”
“Keeping his mind from things. Misses his mate and all of you something fierce.”
Cirrus sighs, squeezes her eyes shut. “I’m so tired, Aeth,” she says. The adrenaline of the night’s Ritual is starting to crash, leaving her with a headache forming right between her eyes. “We are not even a week into this tour. Your mate broke his foot. My summoner had a breakdown about being replaced and called one of us home, and I’m not quintessence but I can feel that his partner’s about three seconds away from breaking down into tears at any given moment. I don’t- I don’t know if I can do this, Aether. I don't know if I can hold myself together for them."
“You did just fine the last time, dearheart,” Aether says, voice smooth and calming even at such a distance.
“But things didn’t go so wrong last time, Aeth,” she says, dragging a hand down over her face.
“They are out of your control and it isn't your fault,” Aether says. “I know it’s hard, Cirr. But even though I know how strong you are, you know the rest of us are more than willing to help you.”
“I know,” she says quietly, curling into her blankets.
“All you have to do is ask.”
“I know,” she whispers. “I love you.”
She can hear Aether’s smile even through the line. “I love you too. Do you want to get some sleep, love?”
“Want to keep talking,” she says a little petulantly. Cirrus thinks she deserves a little petulance after everything, thank you very much. She yawns, and curses her body for betraying her like this.
“How about this, sweetheart?” Aether says, and Cirrus feels her eyelids growing heavy. If they weren’t hundreds of miles apart she’d accuse him of slipping her quintessence, like he’d ever do it without asking. “You lay down, get as comfy as you can, and I keep talking til you fall asleep?”
Despite herself, Cirrus smiles warmly. She yawns and curls into her bunk. “Sounds like a plan.”
“So, Copia’s office still isn’t finished yet, but he’s still insisting…”
Cirrus lets Aether’s voice and the rocking of the bus lull her to sleep, something warm and comfortable in her heart.

ok, this Kevin Woo guy is the most fantastic chad i've heard of in a while:
The journalist who exposed Lambda School wasn't a journalist by trade. Vincent Woo was a successful entrepreneur best known for CoderPad, a collaborative coding website used extensively in programming job interviews. After he sold CoderPad for millions of dollars, he focused on the public interest, such as housing activism.
Woo's work on CoderPad gave him expert insight into the programming job market, and in 2019, Austen's outrageous hiring numbers set off red flags. Whenever pressed for more details on his outrageous claims, Austen said a full report was coming soon, but six months would pass without any updates.
Woo obtained an investment memo Lambda School sent out to Y Combinator titled, "Human Capital: The Last Unoptimized Asset Class." In it, they disclose, “We’re at roughly 50% placement for cohorts that are 6 months graduated,” contradicting the very front page of their website.
Where did the 86% on their homepage come from? In 2018, Lambda School submitted a single report about 72 graduates to CIRR. CIRR is an organization formed by the boot camp industry following the boot camp crackdown of the 2010s, to cleanup their image. Bootcamps are supposed to submit their hiring stats every six months, in one standard format, to prevent underhanded boot camps from fudging the numbers. In two years, Lambda School had produced nothing beyond that single, small report.
Woo reached out to Sabrina Baez, Lambda School's former Director of Career Readiness. Baez oversaw job placement in those early days, and Austen had reprimanded her for low hiring rates. She told Woo that probably only 50% to 60% of graduates found jobs.
Finally, Woo obtained private communications with investors revealing the quiet deals with hedge funds. This flew in the face of their marketing's, "We don’t get paid until you do," and Austen's now-deleted tweet, “We never, ever get paid upfront for ISAs.”
With all the damning evidence, the story was ready. Most reporters would now email their subjects for comment, but Woo elevated the story to performance art. He asked Austen for a recorded interview, without revealing its nature. Austen, lulled into a false sense of security by tech press puff pieces, agreed. What followed was the most riveting hour of tech journalism I've ever heard.
Austen: "Our goal right now, is that if a student is endorsed, call it graduation, that we place 80% within 120 days."
Woo: "Why did you tell investors 50?"
Austen: "What… I don't know… what communication you're referring to."
The interview went downhill from there, as Austen scrambled to invent excuses.

bonus: check out this dude's hilariously understated linkedin:
(also, the whole article's worth a read. i'd been following the Lambda School saga for a while but there's a bunch of new fuckery here that even i didn't know about. smh)

Vichola Vs. Earth: What's the difference?
Synopsis: Vichola is an alternative version of Earth where there's more water, more storms, bigger flora and fauna, and humans evolved late. There exists a power source in the setting called Anima--which exists in everything and everyone-- And also grants some lucky humans unique abilities. This is the first part of a larger worldbuilding project. Keep an eye out for #Vichola for more!
The planet itself is referred to as Vichola. Vichola is Earth-like in content, though not exactly the same.
More water. Vichola is approximately 85% water instead of only 71%.
More storms and higher humidity.
Deserts are exceptionally rare, with the only known one being the Cirr Desert between the Ferr Mountains in Uxor.
Less land. Per the last point, only about 15% of the planet is solid land and even less of that is habitable.
Most of the land that remains is storm-battered and rocky, making it difficult to build large infrastructure.
Mega Flora and Fauna. The plants and animals of this world are much larger than Earth’s.
Stag Beetles, for example, are the size of buffalo.
Examples of animals: Cinder whales, grass-cutter rhino beetles, Nighttail deer, Dotted Seals, and much more.
There are some places in the world that can only withstand the storms thanks to the impressive root systems of huge, ancient trees. The entire island chain of Zotheca is one of them.
Examples of plants: Southern Sea Grapes, Manifel Willow Shrooms, Firestar Clovers, Whitehoney Palm, and much more.
Humans evolved late. The planet was much older by the time humans evolved to be the dominant species, and with the environmental challenges, technological advancements came slowly.
Technology:
Air Ships (requires an Affixed to pilot due to their Anima requirements. Most common in Uxor but gaining popularity in Tolero.)
Robotic shuttles (requires an Affixed to pilot due to their Anima requirements)
Shuttles can only be used on well-beaten trailways and so most towns and villages rely on animal-driven transport. IE: Beetle-driven carts in Tolero, Seal ferries in Nullus, and Bat gliders in Zotheca.
Wind, solar, and sea power
Unfortunately, no infrastructure to transport power to towns and villages that can’t produce it themselves.
The world is not fully mapped and because of that, there are often dead patches of islands not registered on any map.
Anima. What seems like magic to the real world is an expected and (somewhat) understood science in Vichola.
Anima is explained more below, but in place of electricity many places have some kind of technology that resembles modern amenities that uses Anima to work.
Anima-powered water purifiers that remove salt and impurities.
Anima flows through everything and can affect the natural world. A void of Anima or an overabundance of it can be devastating in equal measures.
The Central Storm Circle is caused by Anima from all four seas crashing together.
Anima Cascades are a type of natural disaster caused by the sudden influx of a massive amount of Anima. This can cause things like Aspects acting odd, animals going wild, plants suddenly surging in growth, and other strange effects. Usually this is affected by the exact source of the Anima, such as a powerful Affixed perishing or a great source of Anima (such as a tree, ancient animal, or natural monument) being desecrated.
Dead Zones are another type of natural disaster caused by the sudden lack of Anima. This can happen as a result of Anima suddenly being removed from a place in mass quantity (such as with a tool or an Aspect), or in the wake of a cascade that’s been quelled. Like cascades, Aspects act odd in places that there is no ambient Anima, Affixed will tire more easily, and life will not naturally take root here.

Mushy May Day 24
Acts of Friendship
Pairing; Rain/Aether
notes; pairing is used loosely because nothing romantic happens. thanks as always to @forlorn-crows for putting together the prompts!
Aether rubbed at his eyes before he ran his hand through his mohawk. It had been a long night in the infirmary, a batch of siblings running a muck with a combined food poisoning. Human vessels and their sensitive stomachs. That combined with the double he managed to pull yesterday, he was bone dead and exhausted. Unfortunately, his shift was nowhere near over, but Omega took over the physical aspects so he could get focused on the paperwork.
Right. Paperwork. He shook his head to get rid of the brain fuzz before getting right back into filling out patient and discharge forms, hand tangled in his hair and arm resting on the desk as he slumped forward. He had to order more supplies after, his brain unhelpfully provided, and the idea of staring at a screen with how his eyes burned did not bode well.
The door to his small office opened quietly, respectful enough to stay quiet but rebelling in coming in without knocking. He figured it was Omega there to drop off some more files to him and paid him no mind, his hand absentmindedly running through his greasy hair.
When Omega made no noise or movement, Aether finally glanced up. Instead of a bulky quint, he was met with a lithe water ghoul. He made a quiet, “oh,” and sat up straight, arm untangling from his head and folding in front of the other.
“What can I do you for, Rain?” Aether’s voice was monotone, tired. He stopped attempting to hide behind a facade ages ago when he found it made no difference whether he came off as cheery or dead; they all knew, no point in beating a dead horse.
“Just figured I’d check in on you.” Aether’s eyes caught the lunch bag Rain held between both hands, swinging it idly between them. Neither missed how his stomach growled at the sight, and Rain chuckled. “And to give you food, you beast.”
“Yes. Food.” Aether dropped his pen and made grabby hands towards Rain, the water ghoul hurrying over to place the bag on the desk. He was quick to dig through it, finding an assortment of food; a metal canister for soup, pasta, a couple bags of chips, meatballs, and a granola bar haphazardly thrown on top of it all. On the side of the bag was an energy drink, the one Dew stocks up on and rarely shares with.
“Oh Lords below,” Aether grabbed a bag of chips first and ripped it open, shoving a few into his mouth with a moan. Rain laughed harder and made themselves comfortable on top of his desk, away from the piles and mess.
“Dew figured you could use the extra ‘extra’ energy after yesterday.” Rain swung their feet idly as he shoveled the rest of the bag down his gullet. “The pasta and soup are leftovers from yesterday and today courtesy of Mountain and Aurora, the chips are from me, and the granola bar is from Swiss…” they frowned slightly, “I think.”
He held up a finger as he chewed, eyes closed in concentration and bliss. He swallowed hard and reached in for the pasta, ready for some real food.
“You all spoil me.” Aether beamed up at Rain, showing off his toothy grin, before getting right back to feasting. Rain shrugged a shoulder with a soft smile.
“Just keeping you on track, bud.” Rain’s eyes lit up and they leaned closer to Aether, a shark-fanged smirk adoring their features.
“You will not believe what Cue and Cirr were doing today.” Rain muttered quietly, just loud enough for only the two to hear. Gossip.
“I never believe what the two are doing.” Aether chipmunked his food and stabbed his fork into more. “But I am interested.”
“Okay, okay,” Rain started, “so you know about Papa’s personal garden…”

CW: Death, Sad Ghouls, idk what else they're all just upset.
WC: 1,721 words
Summary: Everyone is having a hard time dealing with Sister's death as well as Copia promotion. On top of everything they're getting a new Papa. Cumulus decided to handle her emotions and grief by heading to the piano room and pouring her hear and soul into the music.
Cumulus watched as boxes of Sister’s things were moved out of her office and boxes of Copia’s things were moved in. It felt weird not having Sister around anymore, and it was even weirder not having Copia as papa anymore and having him be the head of the Clergy now. Too much change was happening at once and none of the nameless ghouls seemed to like it. It’s not like Sister truly left though, Cumulus sees her spirt roaming the hall so the Ministry at night whenever she’s unable to sleep.
She deiced that was enough watching for the day when the movers picked up Sister’s elegant mahogany desk. Even though it was cover in bite marks and scratches from ghouls who found themselves in Sister’s office, it was still stunningly beautiful and brought the whole office together. Cumulus couldn’t stand seeing it being moved out, so she left and made her way back to the ghoul den. Every person and ghoul she passed on her walk back, had a somber look on their face. Some had their eyes brimming with tears, some avoided eye contact with anything but the floor, and some looked angry. She eventually made it to the familiar, large iron doors and pushed them open. The sight she saw inside the den was quite the same sight she saw on her walk.
Instead of a chatter filled room, Cumulus comes back to abnormally quiet room with only the soft indistinct voices of the TV filling the air. Cirrus was staring out the window at the annoyingly beautiful day. Phantom and Aurora were sat on the couch with tears filling both of their eyes. Swiss was standing in the kitchen, sleep deprived as hell, waiting for his coffee to brew. Rain was standing outside of Dew’s door, waiting to be allowed into the angry ghoul’s room. And she could only think Mountain was in the green house, bussing himself enough to make him forget about reality. Cumulus made her way over to Cirrus and sat down across from her.
“Are they still moving everything?” Cirrus spoke up, eyes not drifting away from the window.
“Yeah, but I left as they were removing her desk. I don’t know when they’ll be finished.” At the mention of the desk, Cumulus noticed tears filling Cirrus’ eyes. She took reached across the small table and held the fellow ghoulette’s hand in hers. “It’s not like she’s truly gone, Rus. She still around somewhere, like Nihil.”
“But she’s not physically here Lus! I can’t go to her office whenever I’m upset and fall into one of her comforting hugs. What’s worse is Copia isn’t going to be our Papa anymore. We’ll have to deal with some new guy.” Cirrus’ voiced cracked as tears ran down her cheeks.
“Rus, things all things must change at some point. Maybe our new Papa will be just as good as Copia maybe even better.” Cumulus said, trying to comfort her but it was evident it wasn’t working.
“I don’t want another Papa, we don’t want another Papa, Cumulus!” Cirrus pulled her hands out of Cumulus’ grip and walked towards her room, slamming the door behind her. All Cumulus could do is sigh. She knew Cirrus would take Sister’s death hard. She was the one that taught the two air ghoulettes how to play piano. The three of them bonded over it and would have piano lessons every day. Whether it was to learn a new song, or just a simple little practice, they all would sit in the piano room together playing until the moon rose over the horizon.
Just at the thought of those pleasant memories, she felt the lump in her throat grow and water filling her eyes. What was she saying? Sister was truly gone and wasn’t coming back. No more early morning talks with her, no more lessons from her and no more warm, encouraging smiles from her. Cumulus stood up from her seat and headed towards the piano room. The piano room was a large, magnificent space. The evening sun poured in through the stained-glass windows, illuminating the room with vibrant colors. There was a couch opposite of the grand piano that Sister would sit on while the two air ghoulettes played for her. And the center piece of the room was a beautiful Steinway Grand Piano.
Cumulus took a sit on the edge of the bench and looked around the room. So many memories fill her mind. Her first lesson with Sister when she kept messing up every other note and Sister helping guide her fingers to the right notes, the occasional morning talks over coffee and tea, and when everyone would gather in the room during summer and just basking in the sunlight. When Cumulus turns her attention back onto the piano, she notices set music on the stand. She recognizes it quickly, the song she was practicing before they went on tour. Cumulus swings her legs around, so her legs and reach the peddles, and sets her fingers on the right keys. With a pit more pressure on the keys the all too familiar notes pour out.
We're here in the after of a murderous crafter
The past is spun like a yarn and mangled
With flesh and blood and bones, I wonder
Did no one hear the distant thunder
The notes rang throughout the room, bouncing off the walls and making their way throughout the entire ministry. All the Sister of Sin stopped their work, all nameless ghouls looked up from what they were doing and Copia stopped reading over a report to listen to the sweet music. Cumulus seemed to entrance all the members of the Clergy with her playing.
The autumnal reaper, the stains of this creeper
Will last, the shine and the sham entangled
Like salting earth with tears of Jesus
He sliced and diced our dreams to pieces
Copia immediately recognized his beloved ghoulette’s playing. He always loved when Cumulus played in her free time. It always seemed to help him focus on whatever assignments Sister had given him. He started to hum along as he read over the report and sat in his new grand office.
For the dreams that you dreamt
Can become just as real
As the blood that was shed
With the slash of his steel
Now the street walking dead
Was quite a scene, wasn't it?
For the lost and mislead
Were promised seats by the pit
Her playing somehow was able to make it past the large iron doors of the ghoul den, allowing her fellow pack mates to hear the melody.
We will break away together
I'll be the shadow
You'll be the light
Nothing ever lasts forever
We will go softly
Into the night
Even though everything in the den was quiet, there was a tense feeling in the air. But as the melodies filled the room, the energy around the resident ghouls seemed to become tranquil.
We're leaving this city
So this is farewell
Goodbye, Seven Sisters
And Saint Jezebel
The moon in the gutter
Has a story to tell
One day he will come back
From the bowels of hell
As the song continues all the ghouls file into the common room and for the first time since Sister’s death and since Copia’s promotion, they all collapse onto one another on the couch. Everyone fell into their usual cuddle spots and sat contently with the warmth of their bodies press on one another.
He appeared to ascend
So we all stood there in awe
Now we have to pretend
We didn't see what we saw
When the curtain unveiled
To the sound of applause
That the king that we hailed
Was the Wizard of Oz
A wave of emotions finally hits Cumulus. Tears fall down her cheeks and a quite sob pours from her throat. Big changes are really happening around the Ministry, and she thought she was ready for them. But Cumulus soon realizes that she isn’t ready for them at all. She isn’t ready to give up her daily lessons with Sister, she isn’t ready to give up Copia as Papa, and she isn’t ready for a new Papa. She realizes now, though, that if her pack stays together, everything will be alright.
We will break away together I'll be the shadow You'll be the light Nothing ever lasts forever We will go softly Into the night
Nothing ever lasts forever We will go softly Into the night
As the finally comes to an end, Cumulus feels her sigh a sigh of relief for the first time. She wipes the tears from her eyes and heads back towards the ghoul common rooms. Once she opens the doors, she finds not only her whole pack, including Aether, Sunshine, Mist, Zephyr, Omega and Alpha, but Copia as well. All of them were cuddled up on their cartoonishly large couch with Copia comfortably snug in the middle of everyone. Cumulus smiles at the scene and happily makes her way over to the couch. Cirrus and Aurora try to move over to fit her next to them, however the movement stirs Dew awake from light nap.
“What the fuck are you doing? I’m trying to sleep.” Dew asked while he tried getting comfortable again in a Rain and Aether sandwich.
“I’m just trying to sit down Dew, shush.” Cumulus replied, finally sitting down.
“Do you have to move so much to sit down.” Dew glared at Cumulus.
“When there’s this many people on the couch, yes.” Cumulus snarky replied while sticking her tongue out at Dew. Before Dew could jump over Aether and Aurora to get to her, Mist started him down from the other side of the couch.
“Stop it, Dew. We’re trying to watch this.” Misty glared at him. Dew immediately sat back down crossing his arms and pouting.
Copia’s laugh fills the room as he watches ghouls fight over something so little. He’s going to miss them, and he knows they’re going to miss him too. Even though he is no longer Papa, he will still be here for his ghouls, and he will try and make it to movie night. Phantom and Aurora have already told him off for missing one already and he does not want another talking to from them.

No More Sunshine…. || Ghost
[there are a lot of time jumps in this piece. Lots of it is one of the girls looking back at the past, realizing how much light sunshine brought to them]
[Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6SUSAYetOdHSWo3UiTYH8q?si=001bd5c700af413e
Cumulus and Cirrus did not want Sunshine to go. But Sister was serious, the two of them watched as Sunshine was dragged down the corridor, knowing this would probably be the last time they get to see sunshine for a while. It was at that moment that they realized they could be next….
[ Two Weeks Earlier ]
“Cirrus stop!” Sunshine was yelling while Cirrus was tickling her sides furiously. Sunshine was rolling on the floor, her feet kicking aimlessly. The two of them so distracted that they didn’t notice the third ghoulette enter the room. The laughter fills the air, Cumulus’ face lights up as she realizes whats playing out. “OOOHHH, TICKLE TIME” Cumulus shouts while almost tackling the two ghouls on the floor. Her soft tail flicks around like a cat waiting to pounce onto the red dot of a laser pointer. Soon, Cirrus finds herself on the ground, being tickled mercilessly by Cumulus. The room fills with warmth as the girls all have fun while periodically ganging up on eachother. After a while, the laughter dies down and they all lay on the floor, chests heaving up and down. All of the girls have smiles on their faces, laying on the cool marble of the piano room in the ministry. The smiles that they wanted to last forever before they heard the all too familiar clacking of Sisters high heels on the tile.
The feeling in the room shifts as the door creaks open, a familiar face looking at the three girls, “Try to be quiet, Nihil is trying to rest,” Her voice echoed in the room. The girls nodded their heads trying to not look scared, once Sister was happy with their response, she turned away, and closed the door, the heels clicking down the hallway, till they could no longer hear.
[two weeks later- back in the corridor]
Sunshines feet trying to grip onto the floor to get her footing, tears streaming down her face. “No! Please! I can’t be on tax duty this soon!!” her voice is straining from crying and yelling.Cumulus and Cirrus shake at the sight.
Cumulus’ eyes fill with tears, as a lump forms in her throat, she screams “NO WHY.” The shrill fills the air, and suddenly the corridor goes quiet. Sister looks over her shoulder, smirking, as the Sunshine ghoul lays limp.
[ four days before ]
“Guys, I think Sister hates me,” Sunshine whispers, her body hunched over. The girls show a sign of confusion on their faces. “I don’t think she likes me at the rituals, I’m too-” suddenly the heels clack down the hallways, getting louder, before getting softer again, “I’m too troublesome.” Sunshine looks down at her lap, Cirrus looks at her. “That's not true Sunny,” Cirrus’ hand rubs the small of sunshines back. Cumulus’ arms wrap around both of them. “You are a valuable member, and you are like a sister to the both of us” Cirrus’ voice cracks lightly, as she plants a soft kiss onto Sunshines forehead.
“You can stay with us,” Cumulus’ voice rings softly, “Stay with us forever Sunny.” Cumulus’ arms tremble around the two other ghouls. Her eyes squeeze shut, the thought of losing Sunshine or Cirrus breaks her heart, a tear rolls down her cheek lightly.
“I just can’t go back to that place” Sunshine chokes on her words. Hell was very rough on her, the poor ghoul had to claw herself out of that pit.
[ 2 years prior- Sunshines summoning]
The voice screamed as the ghoul clawed its way out of the pit. Its summoning was the longest, most difficult summoning yet. The ghouls were tired of this hours ago, but they couldn’t just give up yet. If they gave up the ghoul would fall down into the depths, being burned and stabbed as they fell, to a second death. A much more painful death.
“Veni ad me. in tenebris manebis.” The ghouls continue chanting, their hands clasped together. Cumulus and Cirrus’ knees grow weak, Swiss and aether basically holding them up. As time goes on all the ghouls continue chanting, and slowly we see the new ghoul emerge. Her body is small, but slowly unveils itself.
Her feet plant themselves on the ground, as she gains her footing the other ghouls practically collapse around her from exhaustion. Her eyes dart around her, shes scared. One ghoul, Sodo, walks up to her, and welcomes her home with a hug. “Welcome home” his voice rings through the dark room.
“H-Home?” Her voice cracks softly, “What do you mean home” she looks around. This place doesn’t feel like home.
“This is where you belong” another voice rings out, this voice more nasal and sing-songy than Sodos. The new ghoul turns around to meet a man in blue robes, and face paint. She jumps back from fear.
“Who are you? Where am I? What's going on?” The new ghoul cries out, her knees hitting the tile floor beneath her. She feels a hand touch her shoulder, and she pushes it away. “D-Don’t touch me!” her voice shakes, she's scared, she's hurt.
“Oh goodness! I’m sorry little ghoul,” The man looks down at the ghoul, “You are in your new home now. The ministry.” He smiles, the new ghoul looks up at him, her eyes full of tears. She stands up slowly. Her head shakes slowly. “I dont have a home.”
[ 2 years later- sunshine being dragged down the corridor]
“STAY WITH ME” Cumulus screams, the kind of scream that digs at your throat. She’s failing to choke back tears, “PLEASE, JUST STAY, DONT GIVE UP,” her throat feels like she swallowed a cheese grater. She pushes herself out of Cirrus’ arms, trying to gain the ability to stand.
Her feet hit the floor, she levels herself and runs after Sunshine. Her body leaps towards her, grabbing Sunshines leg. “You are staying with me” Cumulus shakes. Sisters heels stop, she drops sunshine and turns around. Her face seems twisted, as her hand swats at cumulus.
“No, Sunshine has serious duties to attend to” Sisters voice echoed in the corridor. Sunshine’s body twitches before she looks up at Cumulus.
“It would be easier to just forget about me” Sunshine whispers. A tear falls down her dry cheek. “I don’t deserve a home, I didn’t deserve this wonderful ability to have,” she chokes on her words, “a family.” Her head falls back down. As Sister grabs her arm and starts pulling Sunshine back down the hallway.
“Please-” Cumulus watches as Sunshine is dragged away. She repeats herself “Please-” her voice growing more desperate for her friend.
Cirrus’ body raises to her feet, she walks to Cumulus. Resting a hand on her shoulder, Cumulus trembles under the touch of Cirrus.
“She can’t be gone” Cumulus sobs. Cirrus looks down at the crying ghoul, “She’s not gone. She’s just…. Away for now.” Cumulus wipes the tears from her eyes. Her face red, and burning. She thinks back to the night after Sunshines Summoning.
[ The Summoning- 10pm]
Cumulus and Cirrus welcome the new ghoul, Sunshine, to their room. “It’s not the biggest room in the ministry, but we love it!” Cumulus smiles brightly. Sunshine Smiles back at the short ghoul, still warming up to the new environment.
“Thank you” Sunshine whispers. Before sitting on the plan bed. Sunshine watches as Cumulus and Cirrus go and grab a bin from a drawer. The little bottles clack around as they both make their way over to Sunshine.
“Sooooo,” Cirrus starts giggling lightly, “we have a little tradition, whenever we get a new ghoul” Cirrus smiles, and cumulus hops onto the bed. Cirrus shoves the bin of nail polish at Sunshine. “Go ahead, pick a polish” Sunshines eyes scan over the polish options, she randomly picks a polish, examines it and then puts it back.
“This one” Sunshine smiles, the polish in her hand is a gorgeous black lacquer with yellow and gold sparkles throughout it. Cirrus grabs the polish and shakes it up, before grabbing Sunshines hand. Sunshine pulls her hand back causing Cirrus to look at her concerned. “I-I went through a lot in hell….” Sunshine looks down, and her entire posture shifts.
Cumulus looks at Sunshine “hey, its okay. You dont need to talk about what happened”
[ the corridor ]
The door closes behind Sunshines feet. The door that is labeled “Tax room” Both ghouls look at the door. Before standing up. Turning away from their now locked away friend.

Hope we can get along! :3

This video is not only a compilation of experiences, but a profound reflection on the awakening of consciousness. ‘Awakenings’ addresses that crucial moment in our lives when we begin to question our reality and search for a purpose beyond the everyday. I remember when, sitting in my living room, the words of the protagonists resonated within me like an echo of my own thoughts and emotions. This video invites us to explore concepts such as spirituality, connecting with our inner self and the importance of living in the present. Each story presented is interwoven, forming a beautiful tapestry of human experiences that reminds us that we are not alone in our struggles; others have travelled similar paths and awakened to new realities. Many of us have experienced resistance to change, fear of the unknown. However, Awakenings shows us that while awakening can be frightening, it is also liberating. In the end, what I take away from this video is the certainty that we can always start over. Every day is an opportunity to discover something new about ourselves and the world around us. I encourage you to watch ‘Awakenings’ and allow yourself to feel, reflect and perhaps begin your own journey towards awakening. Thank you for joining me in this little reflection. I hope the video inspires you as much as it does me, and don't forget to leave your comments and share your own experiences! I hope you like it! Vichola: Southern Hemisphere

God I love Inkarnate. Don't mind the too small text, this is a wip map of the southern hemisphere of Vichola. I really wanted all of the nations to have SOMETHING that made it's people unique without me having to rely on things like hair texture, skin, things of that nature. I want to have more poc without me having to explain away how they evolved to look that way despite the weather conditions of each nation. So i decided to add in what's essentially an "anima mark," which marks their nationality with a little bit of fantasy flair.
To make them feel consistent, I had a couple of rules that I followed. They couldn't have anything that somehow gave them a biological advantage over another nationality. And, they couldn't have extra limbs or eyes or anything that would affect their skeletal structure. Also people can have unnatural eye colors but I'd rather everyone have natural hair colors and textures.
Short breakdown time:
Tolero:
YIPPEE COWBOYS ON BUGS! We've got a bunch of different continents and it's the only place that goes far enough up and down to get tropical, temperate, AND snowy conditions. We've got a bit of norse inso up north in a rocky desert, middle is cowboys on bugs riding roly-polies, there's giant mushroom forests where they collect the spores for m a g i c a l reasons, fields of rolling grass where they raise giant honeybees and have to hunt mantids and dragonflies because they're pests, and on the bottom is Aztec/Nahautl culture mixed with giant redwoods in frosty forests. Extremely common for Affixed people here to have brightly colored freckles and other birthmarks.
Uxor:
A meritocratic society loosely inspired by various middle eastern/Mediterranean cultures. Tropical jungles in the south, the Cirr desert in the north between the Ferr mountains, the Mol sea (highly acidic chemical sea akin to the Dead Sea irl), and the eastern continent is the Oneir volcanic ridge so that entire continent is covered in black sand. Exports salt collected from salt pools along the shores, which is rich in Anima and can be used to power machinery. The technological hub of the world, air ships are really common here. Uxorian people often have crystal nails, which are harder and often come in a lot of pretty colors. Basically any possible gemstone color.
Nullus:
Okay i was watching One Piece and Waterworld when I decided to work on this place. So you've got HUGE cities on the water made up of ships all strung together with rope ladders. I'm talking thousands of ships that all loosely float around one another so you probably gotta get really good at locating ships. Lots of seals in this area and they are BIG BOYS that are trained to pull carts across the water which is v cute. Less developed than both Uxor and Tolero in my mind, gotta work on that. I'm probably going to develop more about their culture of polytheistic worship where the Affixed are often considered gods on earth or are chosen by the gods. Lots of pirates. Both pirates and the military have beef with Zotheca so it's basically thunderdome on the water anytime they clash. Nullian people usually have streaks of other hair colors in their hair, but it HAS to be a real, natural hair color.
Zotheca:
This is probably the least developed place I have so far because i went into this with BLOODBORNE and VAMPIRES on the brain and basically got no further. Super icy gloomy forests, gothic aesthetic of woven vines, lots of snow. people with big ass weapons, that sort of thing. I should work on defining a specific gothic era I think. But Zothecan people, because of the natural dead zone Zotheca sits on, actually have constant dark circles around their eyes and dark veins around them.

Cirre in erven uitgegeven.
