[Clearly I got something of a bad deal, art-wise. The Basic D&D Creature Catalogue had two editions, one from 1986, and one from 1993. The 1986 one has decidedly not-great art (I've complained about it before), although the chapter headers are lovely. The 1993 edition got Dave Simons, who worked with both Marvel and DC, to do some new images, of which this is one. You can definitely tell he worked on the Conan comics, can't you? ]

Sollux CR 8 LG Medium Outsider (native) This humanoid stands several heads taller than an ordinary human, with crimson skin and a mane of bright yellow hair. They bear finely made arms and armor.

The sollux are warriors of light, noble crusaders who fight to oppose the actions of evil fire creatures on the Material Plane. They are especially foes of the efreeti, who they see as a perversion of the holiness of flame. Each sollux spends most of its life alone, making and trading for arms and armor, training its martial skills and following rumors of the efreet. In order to be considered fully an adult and to join the Brotherhood of the Sun, the martial organization that comprises the bulk of their society, a sollux must face an efreet in battle and slay it. This does not have to be done alone, but cannot be done with the assistance of members of the Brotherhood. Thus, some sollux end up teaming up with adventurers in order to achieve this important rite of passage.

In battle, a sollux usually fights with manufactured weapons. They typically wear armor regardless of the heat of their desert homes, as they are immune to environmental heat. Sollux are effectively immune to illusions—they see through them automatically, and will reveal their presence to any allies present. Unlike the efreeti they despise, sollux cannot fly, but they can imbue projectile weapons with magic that forces creatures hit by them to ground. They have a handful of spell-like abilities, which they often use to dispel illusions or put out conflagrations. Sollux are proud but not foolish, and will not sacrifice their lives needlessly.

The Brotherhood of the Sun is a militant religious order, and the core of sollux identity. It is devoted to the worship of fire, sun and goodness, and in that capacity honors multiple deities such as Atriea, Ra, Ragathiel and Sarenrae. Brotherhood lodges are often found inside of lava tubes and other geological features associated with volcanism, and contain shrines, forges and libraries devoted to recording the secrets of fire. Elder members of the Brotherhood remain in the lodge and raises young sollux communally; few sollux know who their birth parents are, or care to. Non-sollux are rarely allowed to explore these lodges, although they may be invited into an audience chamber to give testimony during a young sollux’s promotion into the Brotherhood proper. Sollux revere peris as figures of holy liberation, and some Brotherhood lodges count a peri as an ally and patron. Any sollux who turns to evil or chaos is considered a pariah.

Sollux stand seven feet tall on average. They do die naturally, but have lifespans equivalent to those of elves. Sollux advance by character class: paladin, cleric and oracle are common choices.

Special Abilities Grounding Shot (Su) As a standard action, a sollux can fire an arrow, crossbow bolt or other piece of ammunition imbued with magic that inhibits flight. A creature struck with this arrow must succeed a DC 20 Will save or float gently to the ground (at a rate of 120 feet per round), taking no damage but being unable to fly for the next minute. The save DC is Charisma based. Illusion Sense (Ex) A sollux is always treated as having succeeded its saving throw against illusion spells and effects, and takes no damage or any other partial effects on a failed save. It can still perceive illusory images, sounds, etc, but automatically recognizes them as such. A sollux can also see invisible creatures, even if their invisibility is an extraordinary ability.

Its gonna be a tough race. Kimi got pace behind Charles. Lando would make up to the front too. Both CL and LH said it's hard to drive, hoping that they climb at the start and stick there 🙏

so i am answering this sooo late unfortunately BUT i think that makes it even better because can now confirm this was a tough race that charles managed BEAUTIFULLY!!!!!!!

but more importantly y'all we HAVE to talk about how much clean air makes a difference in these races, ferrari pushing his pit stop made all the difference today because he was able to build a solid gap during that pace advantage (ferrari strategy...worked? holy shit??????) but it's still not enough for him to fight for wins.

but the triple header is finally, finally over! and by god we've seen some absolutely gorgeous drives from charles. it's a difficult situation but i've actually never been prouder of someone i don't know in my entire life because he's been driving like a man possessed with a car that could legit kill him if he pushes the limits too far.

let's talk about how everyone's been talking about how charles's best skill is quali and he's quietly improved his racecraft and tyre management SO FUCKING MUCH that even with this car's horrible quali performance he's making up as much ground as humanly possible on race day. this man is only getting better and better and by the time we show up in miami the ferrari better be able to manage pole!!!!!! cos he is incredible and he will make that chance work.
