Caloundra Music Festival 2015 (CMF) Day 3 Wrap Up

Day 3, and our final day at CMF, was another day filled with great tunes and sunshine. This year, in terms of festivals, I’ve been to Laneway, Soundwave, Splendour In The Grass, BIGSOUND, and CMF. Splendour is still the standout for the year, but only just nudges out this year’s CMF for first place. Yes, CMF 2015 was that good!!! While I got to see some old favourites (and some of them are old, but the best I’ve seen a couple of them in over a decade) I spent at lot of time checking out acts I knew little or nothing about. So, so many gems at CMF this year (and so much money I’ve already spent on iTunes downloading them). And the weather … could not have asked for better.

Day 3 we checked out:

Beverly Thrills - Local girl that knocks out Soul and RnB with lots of use of a Loop Pedal. Easy going music.

Sally Skelton - Watch out for the rise of this young girl, just 17 years old and the winner of this year’s CMF “Fast Track Talent - Junior” comp. A local Singer/Songwriter with an amazing voice, acoustic guitar, and like all the kids, a loop pedal. She channels Julia Stone, Stevie Nicks, and Jewel, and will go a long, long way in the industry!!! For 45 minutes she knocked out some refreshing originals, and some amazingly interpreted covers.

Carl Wockner - One of the many gems of CMF this year. His own bio says he is Indie Rock / Pop, but I’d say he verges more on Country Rock (with more emphasis on Rock then Country), kinda like Keith Urban, but way, way, WAY better. Also has stage presence and charisma. Catch him live if you can!

Joe Mungovan - Indie Roots artist from the Central Coast of NSW, and just oozing in talent. Another one to catch live if you can.

Ben Lee - Breezy, crispy, and fun as always, knocking out feel good tunes and stories.

Steve Poltz - Hard to know what to say about this Canadian born, but now US based Singer/Songwriter, who is probably best known for his collaborations and songwriting with Jewel (including You Were Meant For Me), as that description does not cover the hysterical and satirical nature of his songs in his solo act. Incredibly entertaining, and though his songs have a little bad language in them, and adult themes, he had young and old on their feet all applauding loudly. Also check out his solo acts if you can. Brilliant.

The Brains Trust - Local electronic outfit.

Babylon Circus - Is a French SKA, Reggae, Rock band that began as a Ska group but quickly transcended the genre, mixing Punk, Reggae, Rock, Swing and Jazz influences. They have all the flair and madness you’d expect from a French band (or any Eurovision contestant). They had the whole crowd going off. Just a mega fun band. Also see live if you can!

The Settlement - Another of the sweet finds of CMF. This Indie Roots/Rock band out of Western Victoria are worth following their rise, and again, see them live if you can. I think these guys were Helen’s standout for the whole 3 days. Amelia Ward - Young Sydney artist with many sweet electro Roots/Pop with a touch of Motown tunes.

Baby Animals - These guys just smashed it … Best I’ve seen them in probably 20-years. I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E set (even with Dave nuking his amp mid set, and having to have the roadies borrow gear)!

Hoodoo Gurus - Also knocked it out of the park, and also the best I’ve seen them in over a decade. A very fitting way to close out CMF for us.

Weekend highlights, and its hard to keep this to a limited list, were George & Noriko, The Beards, Angus & Julia Stone, Ash Grunwald, Meg Mac, Sally Skelton, Carl Wockner, Babylon Circus, The Settlement, Baby Animals, and Hoodoo Gurus.

el club media fest esta jugando con nosotros , es asi como me siento . Aca pais que llega a ser tendencia con el hastag de ellos , los ilusionan . Y luego no dicen nada , esto es como un tipo de publicidad gratis que ellos esta haciendo . De verdad da colera , que ellos no quieran decir de una vez que paises van a ser en los que abra club media fest .

Caloundra Music Festival 2015 (CMF) Day 2 Wrap Up

Day 2, and perfect weather for a festival once again. Highlights for the day were Jason Daniels, Ash Grunwald, and Meg Mac, and the surprise package for the event so far remains George & Noriko, who we saw again today.

Artists we saw today were:

Jason Daniels - Local lad who is Ed Sheeran-esk, right down to the loop pedal. If he was a ginger, he could have been Ed's brother. He was really good, with several really breezy originals. If he's playing in a pub near you, check him out.

Mustered Courage - Outfit out of Melbourne. They call themselves Roots, but I'd call them more Bluegrass (yes, I know that is a form of Roots), but either way were very entertaining, with good crowd engagement, and brilliant in sync harmonies remenicsant of the Eagles at their peak. Was unfortunate for them they were one of the first acts of the day, and therefore didn't have the crowd they deserved.

Funk Majestic - A local Jazz/Funk/Reggae outfit.

Abbe May - Cool Rock (with a bit of Electro Pop) Chick out of WA. Good heart starter for the day (though a little rougher than a coffee and cigarette).

Ash Grunwald - Blues/Roots Melbourne lad. Easy to see why he's a festivals' favourite. Really had the crowd going. He was backed by Andy and Travis from another small Melbourne outfit called The Living End!!!

Andrea Kirwin - Local Singer/Songwriter.

Meg Mac - Amazing, brilliant, stunning, etc Aussie Singer/Songwriter. Amazing voice and tunes for a 25 year old.

George & Noriko - They played the first day (see comments then) and I just had to see them again. Most entertaining sets of the Festival so far. There must be something happening in the busking scene in Melbourne to get the likes of The Pierce Brothers and George & Noriko coming out of that scene .... Not sure though if their energy and fun would translate to a studio album???

Josh Pyke - Indie Singer/Songwriter out of Sydney. I had maybe too much anticipation for a live set from Josh, as he failed to impress.

Band of Frequencies - Local Roots/Rock band. Worth checking out if you get the chance.

San Cisco - Indie Pop/Rock outfit out of Freeo. They go alright! Even with a Chick Drummer :)

Xavier Rudd & the United Nations - Xavier is a multi-instrumentalist Folk/Blues/Folk Rock/Reggae artist. He's much better solo when he does his one-man-band performances. That's all I'm saying!!!

Lime Cordiale - Five piece Indie Pop Rock band out of Sydney. They were only on the small stage, but had the small crowd going off.

The Badloves - Remember these guys from the '90's? A vague memory perhaps? Me too! They haven't gotten better with age!!!!!
