Reddit homestead question

As i said i rambled on but the info is in there.

As someone who has done this and just starting over and doing it on a new property, its fun but frustrating at times. So my BiL and i had a 400acre dairy farm. I just the other day finalized the sale of my half of the business to him. We had a 30-acre homestead inside it on a hill that had a good overlook on a large chunk of the property. This is where the main house is on 10 of its own acres separate the homestead. We have housing, storage, food related areas, weapon related areas, lots of water storage, medical area, grown food areas, livestock areas, and basically anything we could think of to be fully self sustainable. We were like that before but for 2 families and the farm.

Im going to use "we" for the rest of the post as the property inside the 30 is still ours together.

So it literally all started over drinks with a bunch of friends. We are all zombie (yes it started because of zombie talk)movie fans and near the start of spring we started talking about how the farm can sustain us all and nothing would really have to change. I told them that cow corn and the rest of the substance we grow for them can be eaten, but its not great, and I proceeded to lay out a plan to sustain a group and still have more than enough to trade and how to keep the place safe. Others had more to add to it, and before we knew it, there were 12 papers printed of google maps of the area near the house and we were drawing on them. We have several barns and buildings around the property for vehicles and equipment as well. I get to coughing up things we would need, and the guy that owns a construction company starts blurting out numbers.

So........ ... . .... ... next day, everyone shows up with bags throughout it. Allegedly, to my somewhat lack of knowledge due to many shots of scotch and fancy beer, we decided everyone there would bring a bag of clothing and essentials to store in the basement with some ammo and a gun in the safe thats down there. That weekend and the next, the first steel building dedicated to the homestead for all of us went up. Next weekend was wiring, the next ventilation, and the next few were insulation and wall and shit. We had a storage / bunkhouse now. Few cots bought by everyone. Refrigerator and freezer chest. It was good. All the building stuff was bought at cost from him. His guys who wanted to work were paid double time the whole time by all of us.

Then the stuff started coming lol. Few more bags from everyone. More ammo. Couple more guns. More ammo. Next, im clearing out a 10-acre plot outside the 10 we had the house on. Start turning up the ground on 5 of it outside the 6 we had for growing our own stuff. That building turned into 6 tinyhouses. Those turned into 9. 2 more wells popped up. 2 cold storage cellars dug and done up. Smokehouse. A couple of cement/wood benchs built on the river that runs through it for salmon and trout fishing. Made an ammo shelter under the house on the opposite side of my wine cellar. Can get in outside and inside. That's when the whole zombie thing kind of just disappeared. It became a Tuesday thing. Few people in town found out and asked to join us. A cop and a marine with their familes. 2 more tiny houses. My doctor friend and his nurse. 2 more. My parents and 4 siblings, his parents and brother. There are several more there lol. We decided on the somewhat tiny houses because bunking with others could cause problems and they aren't very expensive. Each person covers the cost of their own, or they get bunks.

Being a dairy farm we have plenty of meat if we need it. Plenty of land to turn into "real" food. Realistically we can feed a few hundred people without much more effort than now and with the help of those people there are thousands of acres around us. I have a japanese black project going on cause who doesnt like fancy beef. But thats just for my family right now.

We cut and plowed out more until we got to about 30 acres. Again, this is not including the main house land. Our doctor wanted a small med house with stone tables outside in case more somethings happened than the med house supported. He paid for it, and we built it. My sister is a chemist with several other degrees and works for a major pharmaceutical maker. She took an acre to grow certain plants and fungus on the edge of the property closest to the house. She also has a rather large beehive there for honey.

We added almost 400k in solar equipment over the years and every building and house has power. We go big or go home. We have plenty of generators and battery storage for solar as well. Each house has its own battery and water line to the sink.

The main things we wanted were housing that could grow and stay near each other, storage for everything we use in daily life(that includes racks and an index for easy finding), food storage(all underground aside one small size building with freezers and stuff. Place for meat curing and the like. Place for canning and the like. Ammo and weapons storage(we have just over 70k rounds of 556 alone. 9mm and .22lr are above 100k. We standardized weapons. If it doesnt take standard glock 9mm mags or p320 mags its not part of the armory for pistols and pcc. Nato/stannag is standard ar15 platform. Srlr for ar10. Aics for bolties. We work off 12g, 22lr, 9mm, 308, 3006, and 556. Pump/semiauto, ar15, ar10, striker, bolty. We have a building with key and passcode access for that. Lot of steel beams in that one. Would need to drive a truck through it. We have separate wash houses for boys and girls with individual water storage tanks.

The biggest thing most people dont have that we do is a ph modification machines. Used only for food and drinking water. We can sterilize the river water and modify the ph balance as well with no input unless they have issues or need filter and chemical changes. Got that idea from a job i had working with large print presses in a 0 waste facility.

We have a range spot with several diff types of ranges on the other side of the farm. My daughter and i both complete in fclass so we have a spot we can reach out to it with.

The fence surrounding it isnt all that tall either. 6ft snakerail with 2 layer barb wire outward leaner on top.

Everyone brings a skill or learns one. We have a Doctor and 2 nurses, armorers, wilderness survival experts, a chemist, ex and current military and police.

One thing is you really need to start with just the people that you can trust with your life 100% no questions asked. That will be your core.

There are many types of divination, and all cultures have them. Coffee readings, palm readings and tarot cards are the most popularized in media. Anything can be “read,” it just depends on which particular method works for you.

Growing up in a religious home, any form of divination or superstitious belief was looked down upon; even coffee reading, which is practically second nature in the Balkans, was taboo in my father’s house. As someone who often had prophetic dreams, and an ironclad sixth sense, being told that my intuition was essentially a sin proved difficult for me, on a personal level. I struggled with the religious teachings, tried to bend myself far enough that I fit the mold that was expected of me, but failed, and failed miserably.

I suffered from anxiety, depression, questioned my self-worth and lived in a constant state of limbo. To put it mildly, I was unhappy. I started losing my intuition, stopped having dreams and lived a mechanical, albeit religious life.

It wasn’t for me.

It isn’t for me.

This is not an anti-religious post. Not by any means. I have often said, and will continue to say that spirituality is a deeply personal belief. No one can dictate what you should or should not believe. You know what speaks to your heart and you should absolutely follow that. It is the only way to be truly happy, and when we are happy we can achieve so much, and help others. I know this on a personal level, I believe this on a visceral level. It wasn’t until I started moving away from organized religion, and started listening to myself, that I started finding myself, and being happy with myself, finally happy.

What works for me doesn't necessarily work for everyone else, and vice versa. That's the point, we are all individuals, and we all have individual needs.

I am often asked if I can read someone’s coffee, because it’s a popular method in the Balkans. However, that’s not my thing. Besides my dreams (which have returned in all their prescient glory), I was always drawn towards runes, and other more solid forms of divination (geomancy for the win!) I have a lot of air and water placements in my chart, so I naturally am attracted to the opposite, which is earth and fire.

Here’s a short list in case you’re curious about different types of divination. As always, this is just an example, again SHORT LIST! If you find yourself drawn towards something, do the research, and follow that instinct. Google is your friend! Use it!

Tasseography: reading tea leaves, coffee grinds, wine sediments

Palmistry: reading palms

Geomancy: reading the earth (rocks, soil, sand)

Cartomancy/taromancy: reading cards

Scrying: a broad term meaning reading by gazing, this encompasses reading mirrors, crystal balls and water

Osteomancy: reading bones

Pyromancy: reading fire

Follow your intuition, your gut, your dreams, your heart, whatever direction it pulls you towards. Trust it, that's where you are meant to be 💜

Today was just like any other day.

But it wasn´t.

I don't usually answer phone calls. I don't really like them. Today, I didn't get the chance to think of an excuse. Today i was a bong hit away from having to be ready for a friendly phone call.

Now, if you knew me, you would know this is quite a big deal for me. I never got used to making or receiving calls. I think it is a problem a whole generation can relate to.

So, it wasn't an ordinary call. It was a helping hand. How often do you have someone to call you on the phone to let you know you're not alone?

The funny part is, I only now see how lonely it was up until now. I now realize that i carry the weight of my whole world on my shoulders, when, actually, there must be something different happening this time, because the air feels like it.

I don't usually answer phone calls, but this time i had to say yes. Because i knew it was gonna be a significant one. I already had an idea of what it would be about.

We talked about it, the other night, when the three of us met, after quite a long time. The last time we were together, we were still highschool kids.
