We meet up with friends and took a day trip to Crystal Mill and Falls. You have to stop by Slow Groovin to have the BBQ and check out all the sculptures in Marble. We sat outside with @rastiguej and @longhurstscott and filled up. A two meat combo is more than enough for two people. We also visited the Redstone Coke Ovens and learned some history too! . #crystalmill #marble #bbq #redstone #cokeovens #crystalcity #crystalfalls #coloradolife #beautifulcolorado #mill #mostphotographed (at Crystal Mill, Crystal Co) https://www.instagram.com/p/CT2L4neI411/?utm_medium=tumblr

RECENT: Just filmed this down the Leetonia Iron and Coal Co. beehive coke ovens. They were built in 1886 and closed at the start of the Great Depression. I’ve read that people lived in idled coke ovens during that time. I wonder if that was the case here. #therustjungle #industry #cokeovens #leetonia #ohio #coal #friendsofcoal #rustbelt (at Leetonia Beehive Coke Ovens)

“Redstone Coke Ovens” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The historic Redstone Coke Oven outside Redstone, Colorado, United States. It consists of the remaining coke ovens built at the end of the 19th century by the Colorado Fuel and Iron. Two hundred were built because the coal in the surrounding mountains was ideal for refining into coke. At their peak they were producing almost 6 million tons a year. The development was the beginning of the modern settlement of Redstone. There are very few coke ovens of their type remaining in the West; the ovens are themselves the only remnant of the sizable coking operation in the area, the largest at the time in Colorado.Within ten years of their construction the ovens fell into disuse when the mines closed. Their support steel was removed during the scrap metal drives of World War II, and later they were used as living space by hippies who moved into Redstone. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I would love to know more about any personal experiences with the historic place?
