#collars are hell

I hate collars.

I though this one would be ok, but no. Even a straight strip of cloth was an absolute pain. Took three tries and two unpickings to get it to lay reasonably flat.

This process took three whole evenings.

First attempt.. I even tacked it down carefully, not relying on just pins.

(Yes, I used my ironing ham to help hold the shape I wanted around the neckline. Didn’t help.)

So bumpy….

I found the easiest way was to iron the collar strip first. Put in the two folds to hide the raw edges, and measure out the middle fold so the right side was the same width all along. This also helped stiffen the fabric and hold it straight and prevent weird wrinkles when I machined it into place.

The entire length of collar fabric was already stiffened with iron-on interfacing. But ironing in the folds really helped with stabalising the entire thing.

Finally!

Yes there were two ‘weird’ spots. I unpicked the seam and re-did it on the machine. Problem solved!

Next time this whole process should be much easier.

This was also the point I decided to turn this project into the jacket, and intend to re-make this whole garment as a top in a different fabric to match the skirt I’m planning. I must be either mad, or a masochist.

started white collar on a whim bc the wicked to matt bomer pipeline is apparently a thing (lets call it six degrees of jonny bailey) and it’s exactly what i needed. low stakes, can turn my brain off and enjoy, late aughts/nyc nostalgia, and six seasons to run through so i have a bit of time where i know exactly what i’m going to watch every night.

and the fun little treats i didn’t expect:

matt bomer is just a charming little delight on this show (guess i now love this man i barely knew existed two months ago?) and his wardrobe is strikingly similar to hawk’s, down to the goddamn fedora

the way once a fucking episode neal and peter have a moment where they do the “do you trust me?” “do you trust me?” thing, with the same level of earnestness every time

the way everyone treats neal like a charming little rascal and not an, apparently prolific, art thief/con man/forger etc., it’s like if on Psych the SBPD actually liked Shawn instead of tolerating him

as stated in the tags, i am obvs fifteen years late to watching this show so i don’t know if this is a normal opinion or an unpopular one but i really enjoy neal and sara? first of all, the first love interest on the show who had any chemistry with neal (the main casting is v good - some of the recurring characters? ...not so much). they’re super cute and fun together and she’s so real for being so set on the fact that he’s a total asshole until she spends like five minutes with him being charming at her and then she’s basically twirling her hair (who among us). and she’d rather bend the laws than break them, but she doesn’t want to change who he is on a fundamental level. she just wants to have a fun, sexy, slightly dangerous time with neal that doesn’t end up with anyone going to jail and honestly that is the dream.

i kind of modeled perrine after me, so they're genderfluid with a huge lean towards feminine styles. perrine's usual outfits are turtleneck tops, crop tops, and big jackets. the bottoms are a toss up on what they prefer on that day. big shoes are a must, especially ones with heels (they Need the extra height).

deacon loves his dark colors. he likes being fully covered up tbh so he typically wears hoodies, jackets, and sweaters. leather is prominent too. tbh the summer heat could be sweltering but deacon would rather die of a heatwave than stop wearing sweaters.

archie is literally just the academia aesthetic. funnily enough, that's also my aesthetic. vests are pretty common in his wardrobe, button up shirts and formal shoes are a must. presentable and clean. again, he's a role model, so he gotta look the part.

No clue how Mozzie hasn't tracked her down, since it seems literally everyone else can get in contact with her, knows who she works for, why she is doing it, how she's doing it, ect.
