The Colossal Squid

The Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni live deep in the oceans of Antarctica, thus giving it one of its other names, “The Arctic Squid.” These real-life krakens can reach up to 15m long!These large creatures are also thought to have the largest eyes of any animal ever found.Their long tentacles and swivelling hooks help them to feast on large fish.

This squid is the largest of the Mesonychoteuthis genus and possibly the largest invertebrate in the world!We do not know much about this squid’s reproductive system because only female organisms have been found.It is most likely that they lay eggs. The colossal squid is also believed to be bioluminescent like its family.
