The article from The Armory Life by Will Dabbs, MD discusses the historical significance of the Chinese Type 59 tank, particularly its indelible association with the iconic image of "Tank Man" during the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests in China. The Type 59, based on the Soviet T-54A, was central to the People's Liberation Army's (PLA) suppression of pro-democracy demonstrations. Dabbs reflects on the courage displayed by the unknown man who bravely confronted a column of Type 59 tanks, symbolizing a powerful moment of resistance against tyranny. While the Type 59 was initially considered a robust design, it has seen varied use across global conflicts, from the Vietnam War through operations in Iraq and Iran. The article explores how this tank, though technologically dated, holds a lasting image in the global consciousness due to its role during the Tiananmen Square incident and raises questions about personal bravery in the face of oppression.

Fantasy Army: Dothraki, Part 4: Combat Performance
Nomadic victories are often attributed to simplistic factors: superior numbers of combatants, incompetence of nomads’ enemies, or innate advantages of nomadic societies over sedentary counterparts. Nomads are portrayed as living in the saddle, “natural warriors inured since birth to riding and archery in the harsh climate of the steppe” – yet nomadic armies in fact required as much training to…

Does anyone else struggle with the ever-frustrating combo of loving the horror genre but being too anxious to actually play horror games? It's not even fear per se, I can sit back and watch someone else without issue; yet, if I have to actively do it myself, I get stressed tf out. I cannot perform under pressure. I cannot be perceived. I want to enjoy the terrors from an uninvolved distance.

All Might rose in a time of fear, when people needed to believe that things would turn out alright in order to move forward, and so he became a symbol of peace—his strength was a comfort to everyone. Because of him, society was able to come out of a state of chaos and stabilize.
But Midoriya was born in the era of complacency that followed. If he became the same symbol of peace that All Might was, then society would stagnate. Another strong OFA user would just reassure society that the heroes have everything handled, that they don’t need to intervene, and that they didn’t have enough power to help even if they wanted to.
That’s why his loss of OFA (a terrible thing in itself!!) is going to work out for the ultimate good of everyone. It actually frees Midoriya to wield the power he was born with—the ability to inspire other people to act. I don’t think it’s an accident that he was quirkless in his rising chapter. When people see Midoriya running to save, even without any power, they loose any excuse for complacency they had. They feel compelled to do the same.
That power—the connection of hearts that formed OFA in the first place—is greater than any quirk. It’s what makes Midoriya the greatest hero.

truly the most egregious part of the 2012 Les Mis is that they changed Valjean’s line from
“It’s the story of those who always loved you, your mother gave her life for you then gave you to my keeping.”
to
“it’s the story, of one who turned from hating. The man who only learned to love when you were in his keeping.”
LIKE?????!! How dare they remove Valjean specifically mentioning Fantine’s sacrifice and putting that before he mentions his own part in the story?? How dare they make Valjean imply that it was only when Cosette came into his keeping that he stopped hating everything and learned to love WHEN THE FUCKING BISHOP IS THE REASON FOR THE GODDAMN SEASON????
Like OF COURSE Cosette softened Valjean, of course he became a better man when he became her father, of course their relationship is important.
But this story would not have happened without the love of the bishop and it was his love that rekindled the love that was dormant in Valjean’s heart. And it was Fantine that fanned that flame, then Cosette’s that kept it steady.
I just hate how flat it makes Valjean’s story seem. “It’s the story, of those who always loved you.” Is THE answer Cosette has been searching for her whole life. I wish they’d kept it in instead of feeling like the audience would only feel fulfilled by Valjean’s story if he only mentioned his direct relationship to Cosette.
Whatever idk. It’s a good Les Mis for a lot of reasons, but a bad one for a lot of reasons too 🥲

The article titled "General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon" by Peter Suciu, published on July 20, 2024, explores the storied history and evolution of the American-made F-16 Fighting Falcon. Originally a product of General Dynamics, now produced by Lockheed Martin, the F-16 was developed during the 1970s as a lightweight, multirole fighter. It saw its first official flight in 1974 and has since been adopted by numerous countries globally, notably Israel, and recently pledged to Ukraine for its conflict with Russia. The aircraft's features include advanced cockpit designs, fly-by-wire controls, and a unique engine intake that ensures optimal performance. Over its service years, the F-16 has been engaged in various conflicts, from Middle Eastern engagements by Israeli forces to its extensive use by the U.S. Air Force during Operation Desert Storm. This versatile and durable aircraft, known for both its air-to-air and air-to-ground capabilities, continues to serve as a force multiplier around the world while also being a prominent figure in peacekeeping missions and air shows.

one thing about being in too much pain to uphold social niceties (period and it's a bad one) is that i did spend all day at work not only doubled over and moving at a pace the ninety year old library ladies were lapping but i was even worse than usual at tasks like Looking At People Who Are Chewing Gum and "not edging away bugeyed when a coworker stands close next to me" and of course the perennial favorite "keeping track of more than three words spoken to me in a row and responding to that" and we'll let me merely say. it is just me and that murderbot. nobody else in this whole damn library understands
#(we catalogued a bunch of martha wells today and it was very apropos)#i just think. when im wounded and dripping secret fluids you can't expect me to keep up with this other shit is all#bookbot doesnt have any combat skills but it does have a faster search than the opac computer#so as soon as it remembers how sentences and conveyance of the searched information works you'll be in the business#augggggh and it was so busy too!!!111 and the guy who monologues on the phone called again and he always starts his calls with#'HEY darlin'!' fuck off robert call me darlin one more time. motherfucker#this is linux robert. we really dislike getting calls from linux robert. robert i'm blind is a different cooler guy#robert im blind is a blind guy named robert who introduces himself in those exact words. and he calls every solstice#in order to find out the exact time the solstice or equinox begins . i always wonder what rituals hes performing#linux robert merely wants to bother our IT department about the minutea of ubuntumint or whatever .no matter how many times we tell him NO#he cannot accept that our IT staff is busy keeping the whole county's library system running and cannot be his personal home computer staff#and that it is highly unlikely one of them would let him burn his custom linux mods onto the public library computers#(i THINK that's what he's trying to do. he is not great at explaining in what one might call. layman's terms. despite being The Explainer)#linux robert is deeply on the spectrum but guess what dude! so am i and so am your little brother who i went to grade school with#at least 25% of our patron base is on the spectrum the library is a very autistic place to be#autism doesnt exclude a guy from being a real annoying pain in the ass who calls you darlin condescendingly#his brother is a wonderful guy. i used to hang out with him at lunch bc his tss had adopted me as a sort of pseudoclient#she clocked my twelve year old weird and said oh ive got room for one more. so jon and i were like two chicks under the wing#and my good sixth grade buddy jon would never call me unsolicited endearments. because first of all he's literally nice#and second of all our favorite thing to do together was not talk#WHEW. anyway. long ass day . my coworker and i have resolved one of these days to clearly tell robert not to do that please#because otherwise he wont know . but it's also possible someone's already told him this and he just doesnt care

@mouseymagus Yeah that’s semi accurate but not exact.
Most children will be taught riding, textile production, food preparation, agricultural labor practices, and other basic foundational skills regardless of assigned gender. Exceptions are more based in the status of their respective clans (ruling clans outsource their agricultural labor, so textile production takes preeminence there).
This cultural group can be broadly be stated as egalitarian in its conceptualization of gender, with men and women having roughly equal power in society but different expectations. The starkest division of gendered labor is that married women control the ‘domestic’ sphere and (mostly young) men participate in warrior culture, while societal roles for others are either more flexible or entirely context dependent.
Basically a mother is in charge of the land and household and directing the use of its resources, young men (16-40ish) are primarily tasked with defending it and gaining resources, while all others (children regardless of gender, unmarried women, and older men) play supportive roles wherever needed. These supportive roles may be more strictly defined by gender in some contexts than others, the Hill Tribes are not a monolithic cultural group, but the above statement is broadly applicable to all.
Warrior culture in the contemporary revolves primarily around cattle raiding and combat sports, with other applications being context dependent (some groups practice raiding trade routes, some northern groups in particular are in a defensive position against imperial Wardi territorial aggression along the seaway, and there are many conflicts and rivalries among clans and tribes for territory and resources).
Unmarried women ARE commonly involved in herding, and as such may be situationally involved in livestock raids (usually as defenders). There don't tend to be any general prescriptions Against women participating in this aspect of warrior culture, but it is simply Expected of young men as their societal role and correct performance of masculinity, whereas for an unmarried (or especially married) woman to take active part in livestock raids is a curiosity.
Men and women are both strongly expected to marry and produce heirs. Unmarried adult women often occupy a unique cultural space, as they can perform more flexible roles (are neither expected to engage in combat like young men or to control the domestic sphere like married women). Spinsters (there's probably a culturally specific word for it but I haven't come up with it yet) as such occupy a gendered space that is considered somewhat nonbinary, not a man but not fully considered a woman in role either. In some contexts this is mildly shameful and a failure to perform expected roles, in others it's a more neutral concept, or positively acknowledged as a unique role within society.

Olivias class set is always weird to me bc it feels like the devs were trying to compensate for her horrible stats growths and modifiers by giving her everything she would need to make her the best dancer ever in the franchise - she can get a kill and take another action with galeforce! she has access to the damage boosting skill for her dancer weapon! she has two additional procs to increase her damage one of which will instakill!! - and there is obvious planned synergy which, say, Cordelia does not have and dearly feels the lack. but even with all of that in her arsenal Olivia is still not very good

putting a shock collar on my puppy to play magic the gathering with it. every time it does something i perceive as a misplay i put my finger over the button that shocks it and if it can identify what it did wrong or explain why this is actually the correct line of play i let it go. but if it doesn’t know what it did wrong i shock it. it’s just a dumb dog, this is the only way i can train it to 3-0 at fnm draft and make me a proud owner

oh i'm curious if you don't mind - what do you think of the pc voice perfomances? (actually, do you have any particular thoughts on voice-acting in da in general? <3)
hmmm what are my takes. i think fhawke is significantly better work than mhawke, the american voices are the better two in dai, and that suave elf male is categorically the best warden voice in origins (i love and miss him every day). that’s probably the extent of my opinions?
i don’t know that i think much about the companions. faves are probably alistair and morrigan... josie and cass...?
