I'm a huge fan of both Mo Willems and comfort objects, so today's book was a no-brainer. This week at the Read With River Book Club we're sharing books on fear in its various forms, and the Caldecott-winning "Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale" (2004) is one of my favourite books about the fear of losing something that you count on, and of being unable to communicate your needs clearly...both of which are BIG THEMES with tiny humans. 🐇🐇🐇 In "Knuffle Bunny", toddler Trixie loses her beloved bunny at the laundromat, but cannot speak yet to convey the reason for her distress to her dad. The resolution will make you sigh with happy relief. And the artwork!! Cartoon-style drawings over real-life images of New York City bring the story very much to life. Have I mentioned how much I love the fact that I don't have to take time out from being a mom to work my business? Because I really do. I don't have to sacrifice time with my girls to earn my paycheck. Last night I hopped on a team video-call while mending Lorelai's blankies. But it doesn't stop there. I'm able to talk to folks about the products from my phone while snuggling my girls, or cooking supper for them. And to be honest, the girls love getting involved in what I do too! They love the products (like greens) and we have so much fun planning my business posts together. Hair scrunchies never left, but now they’re ‘back’ with a new name

Hair scrunchies: the latest trend declared to be "back" despite having never really left.

Or perhaps they just never left for me, a person who is devoted to the single blue scrunchie I purchased for $1 at a doomed American Apparel store. It doesn't leave a crease! 

Anyway, Women's Wear Daily thinks you'll be seeing a lot more of the puffy hair ties in the coming months. This isn't really surprising: the scrunchie is already sold at stores like Urban Outfitters, Lululemon, and Free People, and has graced the heads of '80s revivalists for years.

Like most fashion resurgences, though, the scrunchie's "return" seems to be accompanied by a slight rebrand. The Danish accessories label Comfort Objects, for example, is now selling vintage silk Hermès scarves transformed into scrunchies. They are called "hair clouds."

Now, it is my personal opinion that scrunchies do not look like clouds. They look like curled up caterpillars or large coiled telephone cords made of cotton. But if you need a way to carry the scrunchie into 2018 and onto your ballerina bun, the term "hair clouds" might be for you. 

Remember cloud eggs? Those were a trend. Maybe hair clouds can be, too.
