Everyone knows the game cookie run kingdom a lot people like it cause of their colorful characters. But I know the truth…the truth dev sisters hides from us…

I was once a fan of the game I use to play it all the time, I loved seeing all the cute little characters and the fandom filled with creative art like this one artist called MilkaMel who just kept making peak art about the two hottest cookies. However it wasn’t until one day when I came home after school I saw a ping on my phone of a new update…I was a bit confused about it as there had been no news of it but I was eager to see either way. I finished changing my clothes and sat on my bed excited by this surprise update.

When I opened the app the first thing I saw was the usual dev sisters logo…but then that’s when things got strange to say the least. As it transitioned to the title screen something happened and it left me feeling a sense of how off it was. It was dark. The screen dark but not all was nothing as I saw shadow milk standing ominously in the middle, his face eerily clear and eyes almost realistic as he was smiling from ear to ear.

It caught me off guard as the screen glitched but I clicked through anyways, my kingdom was eerily silent….no one in sight all except Shadow Milk Cookie again… staring up at me ominously, I was to say startled by this circumstance….

I shrugged it off and went to my latest adventure one of my favorites being episode 7 & 8. But when I went there it was just shadow milk again….staring at me. And not even in a smexy way. It was creepy.

Why so startled my silly player?

But I then threw my phone away avoiding the situation. I wanted to text devsisters about this but I got no response. So this why I’m writing this to warn others of this strange glitch about shadow milk. But I can’t help but wonder if I should pick up my phone again…and answer him he seemed so sad….

So I’m probably not going to do this because it’d take a lot of work that will definitely delay the next update by like a lot, and it is really late so it’s probably just casual midnight thoughts but

What if I took another shot at redesigning these two?

Again, I’m most likely not going to do this. There’s already so much work done and I can’t afford to do it all over again.

This is more of a question of “hey what if I didn’t directly take the color palettes and vibes of Shadow Milk Cookie and Pure Vanilla Cookie and slap them onto my characters?” What if I tried to design them without any of that influence?

Because even though I like these designs, I was also going through a very blatant cookie run phase when I remade them. So maybe I should draw a what if scenario where I didn’t use such blatant choice of reference?

However, that’s not the only reason I’m considering this. If my games ever get to the point where they’re popular enough for people to want me to make merchandise of them, I don’t want the lawyers of Devsisters knocking on my door sending me a zillion copyright infringements or 2 million cease and desists for using only one reference when making my characters. If I was rich enough to fend off lawyers like that I wouldn’t be making games tbh. Sure, they probably wouldn’t notice a random lil indie dev making a very specific niche of dating sim. But do I want to take that chance in the future? No not really.

So while this is purely a what if scenario right now, since even trying to do this would require several weeks, I am considering it for my own artistic integrity and own legal safety. I want to start making things that are purely my own and not just my version of the hyperfixation I have that week, and I don’t want to get into any possible legal problems with my designs. I’m just trying to have fun but I want to be safe while doing so.

If any of my followers could give me their direct input via the comments or the ask box, I would seriously appreciate it. I’ve been conflicted about this since the new game’s release.

Shining Glitter absolutely got a makeover for this update, some people are fans while others may prefer her look in Ovenbreak. Please let there be a option to put her in her CROB update like it being a rare skin or something-

Just a reminder... the devs update this game ever week... yall would hate it if it was mobile app game... how do I know?... I'm a Cookie run fan that's why... my game updates every month and I think it's a little annoying... so uh... to anyone saying that the devs are like lazy.. no they aren't... you just don't know how much work they have done...

(I also don't think people realize that coding isn't an easy thing. What I have seen/ heard that Roblox coding studio is much harder then most coding studios. For example the Mom and Child mechanic doesn't even work... coders I think you know what I am talking about or I hope-)

Idk how to end it just... game making is hard and the sad part is most people will never know it is hard, and how much work they put in.

Ps: if you want to see Lazy work I will give you an example... I will not name the game but to the people who know what I am talking about... oh boy I wish you well...: This game Dev was going to make a game right but they keep on delaying the release date... and on top of that they are PLAYING VIDEO GAMES Instead of coding their game!?

personal take on urchoux (more like analysis)

first of all, the damn game wont let me do any quests even though it's clearly stated that you're supposed to able find them daily on the bulletin bord

and secondly, this is written in the first part of the update and theres no dynamic that we can really discuss other than we have a bad boy x good girl theme (but yuri) going on for them

in cookie run, the devs tend to stick to cookies that have similar theming in some way (if theyre releasing spicy cookies, then they arent going to have sweet-themed cookies to go alongside in the update)

*before you say "what about the tri-cone cookies", that update was literally on purpose to highlight different academy students

but overall, the team tends to always prefer having a pair of cookies that have some sort of common ground even if they have opposite personalities (ex: currant cream and pastel meringue are clearly two opposite aesthetics, but their middle ground is in fashion designing)

anyways, let's talk about the new cookies in kingdom; theyre clearly designed to fit the 'good girl x bad boy' theme, "he was a punk, she did ballet" theme, the 'prep x delinquent' theme (you get the point)

but then you see their namesake foods

normally you'd expect more of 'sour vs sweet' or 'bitter x sweet' foods to compliment the theme of their relationship, but we got

seafood x sweet

it seems like such an odd combination, but we're gonna make it a more deeper than this

first off, the ingredient/food theme street urchin and caramel choux have is actually based off high class delicacies

while caramel choux could just be a caramel dipped cream puff, she could have been inspired by croquembouche

on the other end, despite street urchin's reputation as biker, the actual sea urchin is a gourmet dish that can only be found in high-end sushi restaurants (but it has become popular in europe as well because they like fancy food)

in a nutshell, street urchin and caramel choux are both meant to be inspired by these high class foods (and that checks out??) rather than it sounding like 'what if a seafood and pastry kissed' (okay that sounded funnier than it should be)

but honestly it would a really interesting concept if the story writers didn't use them for the town square setting and instead developed them be more like their respective dishes and have more refined designs for them (aka have them in extravagant, legendary costumes you can find in ovenbreak)

would personally love to see a wedding planner costume for choux and a badass sukeban costume for street urchin

Mystic Flour and Cultural Confusion: part 2

I'm going to assume you've already read part 1 and just move on from where I was. How about we start with One of the very first things we see in “The Awakening of White Apathy” update, The Ivory Pagoda itself! (Sorry for the awful image quality, This is the best I could get.)

...Except…What is a pagoda?

Well according to Merriam-Webster it's "a tower in eastern Asia usually with roofs curving upward at the division of each of several stories and erected as a temple or memorial" which is accompanied by this illustration.

Question answered, right? Answered, but not elaborated. There are many cultures in Asia So even though it could be assumed to be Chinese-inspired it doesn't guarantee it.

The next place to look is good old Wikipedia, which actually has a lot more detail for us. It references exact places and even mentions that pagodas aren't always used for Buddhism (didn't know that), But that's not what's important right now.

Have you noticed that many of the Pagoda designs don't really match Cookie Run: Kingdom? Yeah, you could easily say it's for the sake of gameplay, but I think there's actually a purposeful design to it. Looking on the Cookie Run Kingdom fandom wiki and looking up the origins of Buddhism, I found something kind of interesting. Buddhism has been around for a looooong time and seems to originate from India if my research is correct.

But what does this have to do with the design of the ivory pagoda?

Boom! Indian pagoda!

Pagodas in India tend to have a lot more variation with their designs, some being made out of multiple buildings or looking more like castles. Perfect for say…a map for stages.

Okay cool, kind of proved that it's not all chinese-inspired...Now what? The point of this mini post series...thing? It's inspire people to look at other cultures and a discourage those shaming others for looking. A lot of people only see the final product, but they never think about the hours of research put in to make sure a culture is accurately depicted. A lot of people in the West are very quick to just label Eastern culture as "Asian", which dumbs down the complexities of Eastern society.

Another reason why I made this post is simply the prove that Dev sisters there's no ways follow a single culture to the letter, which is why some people make it confused.
