Swipe to see #splitface!! 😱 🎭 One of my PET PEEVES these days is when I am not in full cosplay makeup some people will say, "You look tired" or "Are you sick?" NO!!!! This is just what I look like out of cosplay!!! For all the effort one puts into making their cosplay it is just as worth the same effort for good hair and makeup especially when professional photographs will be taken. Going 💯 on the presentation really brings it all together for cosplaying. But please remember cosplayers aren't "on" all the time (especially now in "Quarentine Mode" 🤣) so to help demonstrate that here is a side by side in the SAME hotel bathroom at about the SAME angle SAME time of day with NO filters. I don't have my armor on yet but that's ok because this was to highlight how I looked before and after the makeup application stage of getting ready. WOW! What a difference base foundation, contouring/highlighting, eyelashes and curls do. My first cosplay contest vs my latest. The 4 years between these two photoshoots were some of the most transformative, unpredictable, and challenging years of my life so far.⁣ ⁣ Not everything that happened was good or easy, most transformations have some level of pain behind them. Not trying to get all weird and deep about making costumes here, but it would be a lie to say that cosplay hasn't affected my personal growth deeply.⁣ ⁣ I entered my first contest in 2015 at a very small local con that no longer exists, with a cosplay I had already worn 3 times, completely on a whim because I finally gave into my friends' peer pressure. I won absolutely nothing! And rightly so, as the cosplay was a mess, ill-fitting, and had actual sharpie instead of topstitching. But it was my best work at the time, and I was crazy proud of it.⁣ ⁣ This year, I entered one contest and created an absolute BEHEMOTH of a prop, Orphea's Relic Crate, lovingly nicknamed "Crate-chan," and the cosplay did earn me the highest award. I have said this before and I'll say it again: The challenge and pressure was so great with Orphea that it caused me to have several "coming to god" type breakdowns, questioning my capabilities, my intentions, and my commitment.⁣ ⁣ Is this how I want to live life?⁣ Is fabrication my true passion?⁣ Is kicking my own ass this hard really bringing me closer to the person I want to be?⁣ ⁣ Yes, it absolutely fking is.⁣ ⁣ You have all been so kind and supportive to me, and I appreciate it to no end. After ASTL, I have spent the rest of 2019 working on commissions and personal cosplays, but I am so beyond ready to take the stage again and push myself to new levels. SDCC is officially a go! I was fortunate enough to start my preview night by going to the SDCC museum event with Sci-fi Coalition. Such a pleasure exploring the museum, watching the auction and inducting Batman into the Hall of Fame. I had to do another Starfire. I wasn’t able to take too many photos last night, so here is some quick ones I took before the costume came off. I made this thing in a week! I hate how the chest circles turned out so I may end up redoing those in the future. Really love how the rest of the cosplay turned out. Super fun and super comfortable. I’ll be running around SDCC in and out of cosplay. Remade Roadhog's tire for Aaron to wear it Friday at Nebkon! Swipe to see the WIP and the original very damaged boi that was made in 2016. It's amazing how my abilities have improved in just a few short years. The new tire is all eva foam with worbla to cover the spikes to keep them safe. I left the plastidip untouched to take advantage of the rubber texture, perfect for a tire! The original was 2mm eva hot glued on cardboard! Roadhog was my very first foray into armor building of any kind. This #transformationtuesday is dedicated to a project that terrified me but I threw myself into head first and came out the other end a stronger artist and person.⠀ .⠀ When I made my first coronation Elsa cosplay back in 2013, I had 2 photos and an untranslated Japanese trailer to base it off of. I threw the costume together in about 3 days after #D232013 and wore it to the “White Carpet” premiere in Hollywood. At the time I was the proudest of ever been of a costume, but after seeing the movie the more I looked at it the more problems I saw. I wanted to change everything but I didn’t think I had the skill to make it the way I wanted so I just left it hidden in the back of my closet for years.⠀ .⠀ #D232017 I wanted to challenge myself for the #mousequerade. I invested in materials gradually so I could use the lush fabrics I wanted without breaking the bank. I taught myself how to use my embroidery machine, how to use freezer paper for stencils, even how to embed magnets into resin and wigs. From hand patterning to hand embroidery to custom bias tape and everything inbetween, this costume is a manifestation of a massive list of techniques that I was not comfortable with but because I pushed myself, now I am.⠀ .⠀ I could not be prouder of this costme and everything I accomplished in creating it. It's easy to forget that everyone starts somewhere, but I am here to tell you NO ONE is perfect their first try.
