all of alfield feels like a personal attack against nott, i swear. returning the unconscious body of a small child (who's life you just saved) to a weeping mother being held captive by monsters that raided her town. matt was out for sam's entire LIFE with this plot and no one even knows it

Beautiful that so early in the campaign, it’s amazing to see the signature Mighty Nein move of “nearly dying protecting another party member” featuring Molly drawing attacks from a zombie to himself to help Beau, Nott unintentionally drawing fire from the Manticore saving Fjord and many many more to come

Nein in Hindsight: CR2E7

Sam first saying "I'm too scared to go over there" and Nott rushing in anyway to help the little boy, and seeing him panic and scream at her approach is absolutely heartbreaking. "I'm good, I'm a good one--" You can pack so many issues into one tiny woman. (28:33)

Matt pulling no punches as the hyena almost kills the child Nott is trying to drag away from it. Wouldn't that have been a fun new trauma. (41:20)

Nott watching the mother reunite with the child she saved... fuck. (58:30)

Nott - "A baby should be with it's mother." I'm losing my mind. (2:55:00)

You know... makes perfect sense that Nott would go after the baby. Who would know better the lengths a mother will go to when their child is endangered? Of course the manticore abandons its intent to finish off Fjord and instead turns on Nott. (3:29:10)

Caleb walking forward into danger, completely contrary to his habit of hanging back in as much cover as possible, because he sees Nott unconscious in Beau's arms and he doesn't want to lose her. He's in so much denial about how much he cares for her. (3:38:51)

I often struggle to stay focused during combat episodes because as much as I enjoy combat when playing d&d, it has to be pretty exceptional to keep my attention when I’m watching/listening, so I’m pleased that I managed to spot these terrible little moments. Matt really came for Sam’s throat in this one, huh?

i love deeply comedic moments that are secretly so so tragic such as nott running over the help a child in need only for the child to scream because she's scary looking while she repeats "no, no, i'm good! i'm good, i swear!" incredibly funny moment that is also YIKES with context, i love shit like that

I love Sam's "A baby should be with its mother" cause he side-eyes Travis as an inside joke that Laura is pregnant, it just hasn't been announced yet. But it's also Sam directly referencing his backstory. So it's double layers of secrecy and double meaning

I’m jumping ahead, but Matt describing Shakaste killing that manticore as a mercy kill “recognizing the pain of losing a child” like loved that hint of backstory from guest characters we won’t see much of.

Like we all know Shaksaste is a good guy, but it adds to later when Veth requests him to help get Luc to Nicrodranas to reunite the family and he does it free of charge
