Since I’m seeing a lot of posts about this from older fans (and as one) I kind of want to give some of my thoughts about the change in fandom dynamics lately, especially in regards to content creators.
I think one of the biggest shifts that I’ve noticed is that this site has turned a bit into a news outlet. Don’t get me wrong, I like squeeling or venting about new news as much as the next person, but it’s a very jarring shift when you’re used to a dash that is more about supporting content creators than fads.
If this is the way tumblr is moving, I’m not shaming anyone at all. You should get to experience fandom the way you choose. I’m just pointing out that I’m seeing a LOT of older blogs that have been on here for a long time, saying they are wanting to quit tumblr (guys these are v popular artists and fanfic writers).
Maybe this is a natural evolution of fandom, who knows? Maybe AO3 will be far more active with content creators than tumblr, and tumblr will turn into more of a twitter space?
My suspicion is that a lot of this has to do with both new fans and the finale/15x18 high, though. The fandom is trying to find its footing again and will. Having new fans to the fandom is a wonderful thing, it keeps the fandom alive! And I’m not shaming anyone, because really however you choose to enjoy fandom is up to you and you’re valid.
But I suspect just from observations of fandoms that have been around 20+ years or more, that it’s not new and shocking news that keeps a fandom going that long. It’s the content creators.
So, to all these blogs who have lovingly provided content for years that is temporarily getting forgotten and ignored in favor of sensationalism, please know you’re appreciated and that there are many of us who still want you here on tumblr! ♥️
#blog recs#tagged in ❤️#all amazing blogs up there!!#i follow pretty much everyone on all three lists above anyway and so should you!
