I keep thinking about how in DC x DP tropes, people believe that Danny is the one tricking people to stay in the Ghost Zone by eating their food. Or some other Hades and Persephone thing going on.
BUT
I need people thinking he's not a consort or victim of a ghost or entity. More of their love child if you know what I mean?
I can imagine it starts with Danny being summoned (cuz that's classic Danny stuff) reeking of death and while most people in these prompts offer him food which is valid, hungry boi and all.
He refuses saying if he eats mortal food it'll delay when he can return back.
This makes people think there's some reverse Persephone logic going on. Is it all human food? For how long exactly? And is it the same for everything he eats?
Danny doesn't explain his reasoning. Maybe he has two different stomachs? Maybe he's experimenting or Frostbite told him not to. Who knows. His summoner for sure doesn't.
Danny: Always wait 30 mins before teleporting :)

wdym lando "built" the team. he just stayed at mclaren longer and is still losing to his less experienced teammate. if seniority matters, lance should be aston's main driver. hes been around longer. hes "built" the team. just because you're around longer, doesn’t mean jackshit if your teammate in his third year has more wins than you in your sixth year
lando is cordial at best. and he's just pitying and victimising himself. and why should oscar care if lando did better than him? this is f1. you are here to win.
hungary wouldn't have been a problem if lando had the championship mentality. imagine if you ask lewis or max to let their second driver through. they wouldn't. he just dragged the drama out longer and made oscar feel bad for his first win.
also all of last year was "lando is threatening max for his world championship" when he won 3 races (not counting abu dhabi cause the wdc was already won) and charles was more close to lando, than lando ever was to max.
https://www.tumblr.com/wdcln4/782742738728796160/also-can-we-talk-about-the-fact-mclaren-literally?source=share
also its oscars sixth win in 3 years. one more than lando in six years.
and everyone is crowing him as the napoleon because he is the first mclaren driver in years to win 3 races in a row since mika hakkinen.
1. built? that was maybe too strong word, but on the other hand, yes built. when lando joined mclaren the car was dogshit, strategy were disasters etc.
Oscar joined in 2023 (not mentioning the fact they literally fired danny ric) and had everything lando helped to develop over the years.
2. if you have no arguments left just use “lando doesn’t have championships mentality” cuz lol? 😂 if he didn’t listen and didn’t gave his position he would be selfish asshole, and when he did it, he has no championship mentality.
3. imagine everyone crowning max like that back in 2023 after every win, after he won like 19 races, you guys would be SICK of it 😭 so three races is nothing

Until Dawn Breaks
Ectoberhaunt 2023 Day 20: Danse Macabre
AO3 Link
Summary: "La danse macabre" by Camille Saint Saens was written in 1874, and depicts a legend where on Halloween at midnight, Death would play the fiddle, summoning the dead from their graves to dance with him until the rooster crows at dawn.
There’s someone playing the violin in the cemetery, and despite the six feet of earth separating Danny from the surface, he can hear them clearly.
Warnings: angst
Words: 2612
Danny awoke to the sound of the soft cries of a violin. The melody was winding and minor, clamoring up and down the scales, clearly audible despite the six feet of earth that separated his resting place from the surface. He wondered who the hell was playing the violin in a cemetery in the middle of the night. It was a bit of a stupid idea, but… they at least played quite well. You could win consolation prizes for that sort of skill. Danny slipped from his resting place, phasing through the earth and maintaining his invisibility. He didn’t want to scare the player off after all.
Rising from the surface, the first thing Danny did was note the location and shift of the stars from the last time he had been awake. It was autumn now, and at least 20 years since the last time he had woken up, and the arc of the moon put it just around midnight... That trio of ghost hunters must be adults now.
Danny found the player not too far from his grave, dressed darkly, in fashion that wouldn’t look out of place a century and a half ago if not for the spiders decorating the lace in her dress, and the careful, complex addition of layers. It looked heavy, but not nearly as heavy as clothing from that time period actually was. Despite the darkness of the night, she had a hat on her head, decorated with a matching spider-lace veil and rhinestone that glistened like raindrops caught in a web, carefully tucked away so as to not get in the way of the violin that was tucked gently under her chin. Danny thought she was lovely and matched quite nicely with the scenery she surrounded herself with.
On a small device Danny couldn’t name, a tinney replication of a piano played under her solo, adding chords and texture to the piece. He would’ve loved to hear it with an actual piano instead of a recording. He sat himself upon his own headstone, resting weightlessly on his knees as he watched her sway to her own song.
She finished on a chord that didn’t quite leave the piece feeling completed, but was satisfying all the same. Danny clapped without much thought to the action. The player startled nearly immediately, eyes wide as they snapped to him as he flickered into visibility. She took a quick step back, tripping over the hem of her dress. Danny was quick enough to catch both the violin that flew from her hands, and her own hand, stopping her from hitting the ground.
“Y-you! You’re… you’re-!” She stuttered, frozen in shock as Danny pulled her to her feet.
“A ghost, yes,” Danny smiled, handing her the instrument back.
She finally looked sheepish at her actions, glancing between her hand and his own, completely confused and unbearably nervous. “I’m… sorry if I… bothered you.”
Danny let out a light laugh, “Not at all, you play quite nicely.”
Her face flushed at the compliment.
“If anything, I’m glad I woke up to a violin this time. Last time someone woke me up, it was with the intent of actually bothering a ghost. I definitely prefer the music,” Danny joked. “I’m Danny by the way, but you might also know me as Phantom,” he said, gesturing to his own grave.
The girl’s eyes widened in recognition. “You’re a local myth, a legend even. I never thought they were real.”
“They’re a lot more merits to legends than you might think. After all, you’re the one playing a violin at midnight so close to Halloween.”
She flushed. “My name’s Sam, by the way. And I’m hardly fit for the role of Death in that legend.”
Danny took her hand and placed a soft kiss upon it through the smile on his lips. “You’re right, Miss Sam, you’re far lovelier.”
Sam clearly wasn’t used to compliments, the way she sputtered and her face flushed so deeply like she had eaten something spicy. Danny couldn’t help but laugh.
“What are you laughing at?!” Sam exclaimed, failing to puff up under the tension of her corset. Danny laughed harder.
Danny laughed long enough that he felt out of breath, despite not needing to breathe and his diaphragm hurt, and Sam had begun to pout.
“I’m sorry, you’re just tomato-colored. Clashes horribly with the rest of your outfit,” Danny apologized insincerely. Danny glanced around the cemetery, noticing the lack of a trail, animal or otherwise. “I can’t imagine it was easy to get to this overgrown spot in that dress.
Sam huffed. “I got here just fine,” and hiked up her dress just far enough to show off her combat boots.
“Hmm, practical,” Danny acknowledged. “Say, would you mind telling me about the current era? I don’t get out much,” Danny asked, sitting down on an old log.
Sam joined him after testing her weight, crossing her legs under her dress after setting the violin down in its case sitting just under another tree.
“Not exactly sure what you want to hear about. I’m sure you’ve probably seen more interesting things,” Sam dismissed.
“I wouldn't say that,” Danny countered. “For example, what’s that device you were using as an accompaniment?”
Sam held up the small, rectangular device. Its screen lit up brightly in the night. “Oh, this is a cell phone. Mostly just used to make and receive calls, but there are a whole bunch of other functions it can do too. Here.” Sam leaned in, and tapped on the small device's glass screen, interacting with it.
Sam went through the different “apps” on the phone, explaining them to him in general terms, then going on a tangent about something called “video games”, then around to a show she enjoyed, then back to games. Danny paid attention for the most part, listening to her voice even if he wasn’t always hearing the words. He was mostly enjoying the closeness of a living person, the warmth she radiated in the night, despite the layers of clothing. He felt it every time she shifted, throwing her arms about in passion, and in the heat of her breath. While he had been awake 20 years ago, it had been long since someone had allowed him to get this close. It reminded him of something long ago…
In the distance, an old church bell chimed five times, and the dawn tinted the horizon. Sam was startled at the sudden noise, and Danny let out a soft sigh of disappointment. He guessed it was about time. He got up from the log, and Sam followed his actions, stretching out her stiff limbs and brushing the forest litter off her clothes.
“Oh wow, it’s morning already,” Sam gasped, watching the colors of dawn slowly begin to bleed into the sky.
“Yeah… it is,” Danny added absently. “Sam, you should come play for me again.”
Sam looked back at him, and Danny glanced at his own translucent hands, knowing he was getting paler by the minute.
“You’ll still be here?” She asked.
“Danny laughed, “It’s the living that changes, not the dead. I’ll probably still be here for another century at this point.”
Sam smiled sadly. “Then sure. I’ll come play for you again.”
“Thank you,” Danny said honestly.
“Anyways, I’ve got to go before someone notices I’ve been gone all night. See you later, ghost boy.” Sam gave a light wave, picked up her case, and pushed her way through the undergrowth.
He waved back. “Bye, Sam.”
Danny floated back to his grave, and let his boot actually touch the earth. He could feel the cold ground calling to him, and his own sense of self fading as the sun rose higher. He thought about the warmth that Sam had emitted, feeling it through himself as their shoulders had brushed, despite hers passing clearly through his. It had been so nice.
With the break of dawn, Danny felt himself fade, and be pulled back into a deep slumber in his grave. Time passed quickly while asleep, and he quickly found himself waking to the sound of a violin once more. This tune was different, softer and kinder than the previous song had been. Lyrical and elegant, beckoning him from his sleep, Danny obliged.
Out of habit, Danny checked the sky to see how long it had been. Only a few days at most, the moon hadn’t even had time to move on from its current phase. Sam had come back much sooner than he would’ve expected.
Danny didn’t wait invisibly this time and caught Sam’s eyes as he passed through the earth, watching her play. She gave a small curtsey when she finished playing, and he politely clapped. She was dressed much more practically than last time, in black jeans with a collared shirt and a long coat covered in various patches and metal studs.
“Good evening, Miss Sam, nice of you to come to charm the dead once more,” Danny greeted.
“Hello again to you too, Mr. Ghost. I brought you something.” Sam reached into a bag she had brought with her this time and pulled out a bouquet of white lilies.
Danny watched in stunned awe as Sam gently placed the flowers on top of his grave. It… had been a long time since anyone had left him flowers and it honestly left him choked up.
“Thank you,” Danny just barely managed to get out.
“Of course,” Sam smiled back and then took her place on the log from the time before.
From her bag, Sam pulled out more new things to show him. Danny relished each one, both because of his curiosity and her passion for each thing. He asked her to explain each of the numerous patches on her jacket, and it ended in long rants about conservation and dietary topics that Danny had to admit he didn’t understand. He had known about space exploration before, but Sam had indulged him by reciprocating his question about his own passions and then using her cell phone to look up all of the new discoveries about space. He was stuck in wonder, and the topic didn’t stray away from the stars for the rest of the night. Sam left at dawn once more with a  promise to come back and play for him again.
On the third night, Danny awoke to a quick and delightful dance, he couldn’t help but fly from his grave and spin around Sam in a mockery of the dances that nobles of long ago had once relished in. It had only been one night since she had visited him. She finished the song, and he dragged her into the dance with him, humming a complimentary melody of his own. It had been a song someone close to him had once loved, and he was filled with the desire to share it.
Sam was lost in her laughter, and once they finished with the dance, went through her bag, and showed him new things once more. She told him all about her current education, how irritating the people there were, and about her struggles with her parents, who she felt could never understand her. Danny ended up sharing bits and pieces of his own past and family, none of which he could linger on for long, both due to them being long since buried in the past, and his own memory blurring.
Sam couldn’t stay until dawn this time, she apparently had a test tomorrow morning and wanted to get a good night’s rest before it. Danny wished her luck, and yet again, she promised to come back. He was looking forward to it once more.
Since dawn was still a ways off, Danny let his feet leave the ground to go meet the stars. Amity was much larger and brighter than it used to be, nearly double the size of the small town he once knew. He remembered when it barely used to give off any light at all, and the stars once shone a lot brighter than they currently did.
It all hit Danny with the sudden force of a freight engine, now that he was both alone and awake. He could fall back into a deep sleep any day now, or Sam could simply not return. Time would continue to pass without him and he would be forgotten once more. With the way Amity Park kept expanding, they might as well demolish the park where the cemetery lay, and bury him even deeper beneath the earth than he already was, beneath concrete and buildings. If he was only a legend now, how much longer would it be before he wasn’t even that?
Danny let himself drift back down to the earth, lying on his back on the overgrown surface of his grave, right next to the flowers Sam had gifted him. He let out a humorless laugh and picked up the wilted bouquet and held it over his chest. He wondered how long Sam would remember him. He wondered if she would get tired of him, and forget to come back, and he would fade from her mind like he did from the rest of Amity Park. It filled him with dread.
It was getting harder to wake up too, and Danny hadn’t had the time to think about that in a long time either. It was a wonder Sam’s playing had been able to consistently wake him up, intentional or not. It likely had more to do with the timing and season than not. It had taken that trio of ghost hunters 20 minutes of “summonings”, loud rituals, and burning weird things before he groggily managed to climb out of his grave. Halloween was due to pass in a week, and Danny wondered if even Sam’s playing would be able to wake him after that. Her forgetting him was one thing, but Danny didn’t want to be the one to leave her behind. She was lovely, and kind, and told him about all sorts of things, and about her life, and how she wished she could live it. Danny wanted to be there to see it.
The dawn had begun to creep up on him, and he felt the flowers slowly drift through him from their place on his chest back to the surface of his resting place. It might become a more permanent rest soon, and Danny hated that more than anything. The thought of not waking up scared him more than anything. He could see clearly through his hands, and a panic he hadn’t felt in the time he had come to accept his nocturnal existence set in.
Danny recklessly dug deep within himself in a fit of passion, trying to find even a hint of that warmth he had come to associate with the living. The warmth he associated with Sam, sitting shoulder to shoulder, and holding her hand while they spun around the abandoned cemetery that lay beneath her skin and in her breath. He yearned desperately to feel it from himself once more. Danny yearned for life in a way he wasn’t sure he ever had.
Then Danny found it, deeply sleeping just at the base of his core, hidden by the familiar chill of death. He latched onto it, clinging to it in a desperate, silly hope fueled by an instinctual fear.
There was a burst of light as the sun finally broke over the horizon and painted the sky gold, and an equally bright burst of light within the cemetery. And for the first time in centuries, Danny felt the warmth of dawn hit his skin.

Kino Cuts: 1994
It's called Media Memoir, not Music Memoir, so I suppose I should expand a little. Besides, film is our main interest anyway.
Let's start with the ones most relevant to us, which are Pulp Fiction and Leon. Pulp Fiction was the first time I've been to a film fest. I was 15 and pre-ordered a ticket to the Haifa Film Fest's closing night, after the hype on MTV including its Cannes win. Blew. My. Mind.
Other films that are relevant to your interests are probably Exotica and Color of Night (you know why), and an excellent TV movie which was so good they released it in a few theaters, The Last Seduction.
Forrest Gump was the second biggest earner (after The Lion King) and also robbed The Shawshank Redemption of its deserved Oscars, the latter was the debut feature from Stephen King fan Frank Darabont, who previously wrote horror films The Blob and Dream Warriors (one of the best Elm Street entries), and later worked on The Mist and The Walking Dead, apart from his work as a script doctor.
We had what is probably John Carpenter's last really good film, the Cthulhu-inspired In the Mouth of Madness (though I do have some affection for Ghosts of Mars).
A scathing satirical dark comedy, Swimming with Sharks was inspired by abusive producer Scott Rudin. It also had a haunting end title music.
We got Clerks, THE indie hit of the 90s, which was made for $27,000 and grossed around $4m, and made a name for Kevin Smith.
I already covered The Crow, Speed, Natural Born Killers, and Reality Bites via music posts.
It was Jim Carrey's biggest year with THREE movies, Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, and The Mask, the latter directed by The Blob co-writer and director, Chuck Russell and featured in this oddly specific list.
I only caught Wong Kar-wai's Chungking Express years after its release.
We had two excellent British debuts from wildly different directors who took quite the opposite paths, Danny Boyle's Shallow Grave and Paul W.S. Anderson's Shopping.
And then there was the most unsettling experience of the year (I actually watched in the the film fest the following year) - Lars von Trier's horror/black comedy/soap opera mini-series, The Kingdom.
More notable films include Interview with the Vampire, which was supposed to feature the late River Phoenix, replaced by Christian Slater; Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures, which starred Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey; Tim Burton's Ed Wood; and Kieslowski's Three Colors: Red, which might also be relevant to your interests.
There are obviously more but it's getting too long for me, so I'll just end by mentioning that as a Tim Roth fan, you might be interested in Little Odessa.

Danny Lyon Scarborough (July 27, 1947 - May 10, 1989) made his mark in the world in two arenas, as an innovative, Emmy Award-winning choreographer/dancer and as one of the first well-known African Americans to go public about having AIDS. He grew up on a farm near Wake Forest, North Carolina. He was adopted by a caring, supportive family. Those early years inspired one of his 1986 concerts based on African American folklore, “When Roosters Crow, Something ’Pose to Happen.”
He was close to his adopted grandfather who instilled a love of learning in him. He him the importance of knowledge as the best defense against racism and hatred. He attended St. Augustine’s College, the University of Massachusetts, Yale University in Connecticut, and Columbia University in New York.
San Diego State University became his professional base. He taught at the rank of Associate Professor in the Africana Studies program and was chair of the department. He founded SDSU’s Black Repertory Theatrical Experience and for the next decade, he wrote, directed, and choreographed each of its concerts. The dramatic performances combined blues, jazz, and spiritual forms with African-themed dance expressions. The Los Angeles Times called him “San Diego’s missionary of Afro-American culture.” His group received an Emmy for his choreography of Roots. There is no complete list of his works has been compiled, two additional plays, Daybreak in Alabama and The Path are among them.
In 1984, received the devastating news that he had AIDS. He contracted it from a former lover. He resolved that he would work to prevent other Black men from making the same mistake. He went public in 1989 about his bisexuality and AIDS. He pleaded with his peers to turn to the lifesaving practice of condom use.

Charles J. Gans at AP News:
NEW YORK (AP) — Tony Bennett, the eminent and timeless stylist whose devotion to classic American songs and knack for creating new standards such as “I Left My Heart In San Francisco” graced a decadeslong career that brought him admirers from Frank Sinatra to Lady Gaga, died Friday. He was 96, just two weeks short of his birthday. Publicist Sylvia Weiner confirmed Bennett’s death to The Associated Press, saying he died in his hometown of New York. There was no specific cause, but Bennett had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016. The last of the great saloon singers of the mid-20th century, Bennett often said his lifelong ambition was to create “a hit catalog rather than hit records.” He released more than 70 albums, bringing him 19 competitive Grammys — all but two after he reached his 60s — and enjoyed deep and lasting affection from fans and fellow artists. [...]
He not only survived the rise of rock music but endured so long and so well that he gained new fans and collaborators, some young enough to be his grandchildren. In 2014, at age 88, Bennett broke his own record as the oldest living performer with a No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart for “Cheek to Cheek,” his duets project with Lady Gaga. Three years earlier, he topped the charts with “Duets II,” featuring such contemporary stars as Gaga, Carrie Underwood and Amy Winehouse, in her last studio recording. His rapport with Winehouse was captured in the Oscar-nominated documentary “Amy,” which showed Bennett patiently encouraging the insecure young singer through a performance of “Body and Soul.” His final album, the 2021 release “Love for Sale,” featured duets with Lady Gaga on the title track, “Night and Day” and other Porter songs. For Bennett, one of the few performers to move easily between pop and jazz, such collaborations were part of his crusade to expose new audiences to what he called the Great American Songbook. [...]
By his early 40s, he was seemingly out of fashion. But after turning 60, an age when even the most popular artists often settle for just pleasing their older fans, Bennett and his son and manager, Danny, found creative ways to market the singer to the MTV Generation. He made guest appearances on “Late Night with David Letterman” and became a celebrity guest artist on “The Simpsons.” He wore a black T-shirt and sunglasses as a presenter with the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the 1993 MTV Music Video Awards, and his own video of “Steppin’ Out With My Baby” from his Grammy-winning Fred Astaire tribute album ended up on MTV’s hip “Buzz Bin.” That led to an offer in 1994 to do an episode of “MTV Unplugged” with special guests Elvis Costello and k.d. lang. The evening’s performance resulted in the album, “Tony Bennett: MTV Unplugged,” which won two Grammys, including album of the year.
[...] Long associated with San Francisco, Bennett would note that his true home was Astoria, the working-class community in the New York City borough of Queens, where he grew up during the Great Depression. The singer chose his old neighborhood as the site for the “Fame”-style public high school, the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, that he and his third wife, Susan Crow Benedetto, a former teacher, helped found in 2001. The school is not far from the birthplace of the man who was once Anthony Dominick Benedetto. His father was an Italian immigrant who inspired his love of singing, but he died when Anthony was 10. Bennett credited his mother, Anna, with teaching him a valuable lesson as he watched her working at home, supporting her three children as a seamstress doing piecework after his father died.
Musician Tony Bennett died at 96. Bennett collaborated with Lady Gaga very late in his career to make him relevant to younger audiences. #RIPTonyBennett

Music Legend Tony Bennett Dead at 96
The world is mourning the loss of a musical icon.   Tony Bennett, the chart-topping singer who shattered records with his nearly 70-year career, has died at the age of 96. The musician's longtime publicist Sylvia Weiner confirmed Bennett's death to The Associated Press July 21. Details on his cause of death are unknown at this time, but he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2016.
Born in Queens, New York in 1926, Bennett was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1944 and returned to the U.S. in 1946. Following his discharge, Bennett embarked on what would become an astounding musical career, which he began as an opening act for singer Pearl Bailey in 1949.   Bennett's career took off with his 1951 hit, "Because of You," and skyrocketed from there, with the musician releasing over 70 albums throughout his career.   In addition to winning 19 Grammy Awards, including an honorary Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award presented in 2001, Bennett was also the recipient of two Primetime Emmy Awards (for performances in 1996 and 2007, respectively). He also helmed his own Saturday-night television variety show on NBC called The Tony Bennett Show in 1956.

In addition to his individual releases, Bennett was known for frequent collaborations with other notable artists throughout the years including Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Amy Winehouse and more recently, Lady Gaga.
His final album, Love for Sale—a collaboration with Gaga released in September 2021—broke a Guinness World Record title for Bennett, as he became the oldest person to release an album including new material at the age of 95. He also went on to break the individual record for the longest span of top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 chart for any living artist at the time.
In February 2021, Bennett's family revealed he had been battling Alzheimer's disease for years prior. Bennett's last televised performance was alongside Gaga for MTV Unplugged in December 2021.   Bennett is survived by his wife of 56 years, Susan Crow, and his two adult sons from a previous marriage, D'Andrea "Danny" Bennett and Daegal Bennett.

A Day of Sisters
Today is the Summer Solstice, a day which has been culturally important since the Neolithic era. Many ancient monuments are aligned with the sunrise or sunset on the summer solstice. Most cultures recognize the event with holidays, festivals, and rituals. In Sweden, midsummer is one of the year’s major holidays, when the country closes down as much as during Christmas.
Today is also American Eagle Day, Clean Your Drains Day, National Flip Flop Day, National Ice Cream Soda Day, National Take Your Dog to Work Day, National Vanilla Milkshake Day, and World Productivity Day.
On this day in 1782, the U.S. Congress adopted the Great Seal of the United States. Since 1935, both sides of the Great Seal have appeared on the reverse of the one-dollar bill. The front side contains the Latin phrase “E Pluribus Unum,” or “out of many, one.”
June 20 is the birthday of playwright Lillian Hellman (1905), actor Errol Flynn (1909), guitarist Chet Atkins (1924), Medal of Honor winning soldier and actor Audie Murphy (1925), actor Martin Landau (1928), actor Olympia Dukakis (1931), actor Danny Aiello (1933), recently-deceased Beach Boy Brian Wilson (1942), “This Old House” host Bob Vila (1946), singer Lionel Richie (1949), actor John Goodman (1952), novelist Robert Crais (1953), and singer Amos Lee (1977).
The rain began early this morning, then continued off and on throughout most of the day. The overnight low was 49 degrees, and the day’s high only made it to 57.
My blood sugar came in at 160 this morning, another tiny drop. Better than a tiny increase, of course.
After enjoying our coffee and playing the Friday brain games, we had French toast for breakfast.
Since the rain had started early and Nancy’s interest in picking cherries subsided, we decided to look for adventure elsewhere. Having seen that OR 242 had recently been opened for the season, Nancy suggested we take a drive out there.
We took off about 11:30 a.m., stopping for a nice hot mocha at Old Crow on the way out. Then we headed east along OR 126 until the intersection with OR 242, then we twisted our way until we reached the Dee Wright Observatory, is an observation structure at the summit of McKenzie Pass in the Cascade Mountains. The open shelter was constructed with lava stone and is located in the midst of a large lava flow. It offers an excellent view of numerous Cascade peaks.
Nancy stayed in the car while I climbed the steps and path up to the observatory, fighting the cold, a slight bit of rain, and a good deal of wind. I declined to take my new camera up with me, so I took a bunch of pictures with my iPhone. I was quite chilled by the time I made it back to the car, and we turned the heat up as we struck out for the town of Sisters, just another 15 miles or so away.
Nancy did some internet searching for a place to have lunch and came up with the Sisters Saloon & Ranch Grill. We crept through town in the middle of a long line of vehicles, and we were lucky to find a parking pace right next to the saloon and got a table right away.
Nancy got a turkey sandwich with some homemade potato chips and a ginger beer. I got a prime rib French dip with their homemade fries and a cola.
Sitting in a place called the Sisters Saloon in a town named Sisters, I could not help but think of my own sisters, Deborah and Sarah. Because there were T-shirts for sale, I texted my sisters and asked if they wanted one. I’ll be sending them to Virginia in the next few days.
We started home along U.S. 20, then took OR 126 when it split off. Nancy took over driving along the way, and we got home a little after 5 p.m. We took a brief nap, then fiddled around with various things until 7:30, when we began our Friday streaming.
We kicked off with Colbert’s Thursday show, which featured Paul Simon. He and Edie Brickell, his wife, performed a tune from his new album to close the show.
Then we watched the first episode of “Outraegous,” a new offering from BritBox that is based on the story of the Mitford sisters, six sisters who refused to play by the rules and whose often-scandalous lives made headlines around the world. Set in the 1930s, it is a tale of betrayal, scandal, heartache and even imprisonment.
We finished the evening with another episode of “Death Valley,” in which a murder mystery party turned into a real investigation when a famous actor was found stabbed to death. John reconnected with an old flame while he and Janie investigated.
Tonight’s low is expected to reach 48 degrees, while tomorrow’s high will again be in the mid-50s. Rain is expected throughout the night and all day tomorrow.
Nancy is off tomorrow morning to church for some altar guild prep work for Sunday. Then we have a potluck dinner party with a number of church friends at one of their homes at 5 p.m. We are to take a fruit plate, which Nancy will look for at the Market of Choice near church when she is done with her altar guild duties.

Welcome to Ravenshade
Summary: Brooks Walker returns to Ravenshade, the town he fled after the death of his cousin Danny—a death no one ever explained properly. Locals blamed "the legend," a folklore tale about an entity that haunts the surrounding woods and drives people mad. Brooks never believed it… until he came back.
What was supposed to be a nostalgic return turns into a spiral of eerie events. Strange whispers in the trees. People acting weird—weirder than he remembers. And a string of incidents that don’t make any sense.
Private Investigator Rowan Maddox is already on the case—uninvited, unofficial, and unbothered. With his loyal assistant Jax in tow, Rowan is convinced something ancient and malevolent is hiding in Ravenshade. He also might be using the investigation to win a long-standing rivalry with the town’s exhausted and mildly traumatized police officer, Ray Nolan. (Who has absolutely no time for supernatural nonsense.)
Together (read: against Ray’s will), the group must figure out what's real and what's just "legend"—and why people keep disappearing near the woods.
Especially when those whispers start calling Brooks by name.

Danny smirked, giving a two-finger salute and wink (helpfully shown by his mask) to the crowd that went wild for his skill and chanting his name. He crossed his arms and stared at Bruce, who, to his credit, was actually pretty good.
But not good enough.
The board came up, points being allocated, and Wraith didn't even need to look to see that he won, but the crowd grew silent, not in the bated breath that he recognized, but out of pure astonishment. He looked confused, before one from the ground whispered.
"He lost."
Yea, well obviously, he's Wraith, and while Bruce may be Batman he can't just win against him in dancing like that. So he turned around to look at the leaderboard, wondering just by how much Bruce lost from and ready to tell him to leave-
He froze.
The results were in, and Wraith suddenly realized the reason for the crowd's silence.
Bruce won.
Against him.
He's been doing this for 6 years, how did he lose?! He was so sure he would win, he's Wraith, the Wraith and one of the two best dancers in this nightclub.
The crowed suddenly started cheering, chanting out Vengence's name like he was a god among men. He glanced at Damian, seeing his twin just as- if not more surprised than he was at his lose, if going by his body language and the shocked expression shown on his mask than a scowl or neutrality.
Okay, this is fine. They only said they would CONSIDER it, not that they would instantly go with Bruce.
He needed to talk to Damian.
They'll turn this around somehow.
Bruce has been chasing after Damian for years now, the once child now a young adult. He's missed 5 years of his son's life, due to a conversation where they both said the wrong words which resulted in Damian running away and somehow managing to evade all of them for so long.
He has to get to his son, before Talia sucks him right back up into the league.
They managed to track his location down to a nightclub, apparently, he was participating in a regularly held event that's been going on ever since 6 years ago.
So they went to the city the nightclub was in, disguised themselves in the crowd and was told to let each other know if they've found Damian.
He didn't expect to meet Talia and the same nightclub, but it made sense. If he was able to find Damian, then it makes sense for Talia to be able to do so as well, even after years hiding from the both of them.
He was keeping an eye on Talia, and she was keeping an eye on him as well, when the event started. The most popular-and only- DJ appeared and played music that had the civilians going wild, and then an entire stage sprang from the ground, multicolored lights coming to life.
This was an event in which multiple dancers had to compete against each other, for what was previously the chance to battle Wraith, the champion who also acted as the DJ, but that changed when Demon came around, overthrowing Wraith and yet, the two seemed to be evenly matched, taking the champion title from each other over the period of 5 years.
Now, who ever got far enough had the option to pick between the two, the Wraith or the Demon.
===
Danny, or otherwise known as Wraith, managed to find a place for himself after losing everything to the Nasty Burger explosion, with the help of Vlad to get him back on his feet, he managed to find a place for himself in a nightclub in another city.
It was in that same city, that he didn't expect to see his twin, Damian Al Ghul, by himself. He explained that he left his father, and was on the run from their mother, Damian didn't know what to do with himself anymore.
Which-as much as he wasn't on a cordial relationship with Damian- reminded him of himself after the explosion of Nasty Burger. So, he took him in at his pretty decent size apartment, fully prepared to do what was needed for his older brother until he got back on his feet.
Then Damian followed him to the nightclub one day, and then the next demanded that Danny teach him so that he could earn his keep.
And Danny did.
He didn't expect for Damian to progress so fast that he was able to dethrone him, though. But he gave credit where credit was due, and if Damian was hellbent on doing this for a living, then he had to wear a mask to hide his identity, from you know, some types of fans and the League as well.
He asked Vlad for another neon mask- he had one himself- and Vlad gave him one surprisingly easy, and then he gave that mask to Damian.
And that, was how Wraith and Demon became regular champions that dethroned each other, until the manager told them to stop because no one else would be able to display their skills and instead made them both champions.
Either pick one or get two.
Their lives fell into an endless motion of DJing, dancing to earn money, and then going back home to a messy apartment, eating and then passing out.
It was a perfect routine that neither of them whished to disturb.
Then Danny saw Talia, and Damian saw Bruce, and suddenly that peace was threatened. Neither of them wanted to go back now, not after establishing this little thing for themselves that they carved out with their own two hands.
But it would be okay, as long as their masks stay on they would go unnoticed, after all.
They wouldn't even think that their children were dancers, would they?

1 for rose the baker? or any/all of them!
1.) How did you choose their name?
This is actually the perfect OC to ask this about ngl. So her full name is Rosalina Nuquez, but her name actually originally started out as me misremembering the lyrics and title to this song:
Rose is bisexual and I'd imagined this being a song sung by her ex, who she constantly has an on and off thing with (but it's a mess). Anyway, Rose is Mesque, so I changed it to be something more for what I was picturing for her as opposed to a white version of her name. She is one of 5 sisters, with one older brother, all names chosen with beauty in mind by her mother, who hoped it would bring them luck in the looks department.
I'll also answer for the others too cause it's fun.
Crow's name is a partial translation of his actual name kȟaŋǧí ohítikA. I thought long and hard about his name, wanting something that would fit with him. Ultimately, I decided he earned it by being a tinkerer starting when he was young; taking apart his toys or things in his parents' barn and putting them back together. He's smart, brave, and daring, sometimes recklessly bold but all in service of those he cares for. Hard to win over, but once he's in your corner, he's yours for life.
Danny, or Daniel Naveen, was a name I originally thought of as a name a very religious mother would have wanted for her boy. Though Christianity doesnt exist in the world of Elysium, that idea of a Southern Baptist mom picking Daniel from the Bible stuck out to me. He's a trans man and went with the name his mother would have chosen for him had he originally been born the way he is now. It's actually an old family name on his mother's side. Though his mother had a hard time with his transition initially, she ultimately apologized for her reluctance, her cancer diagnosis pushing her to embrace him and his new name while she was still around to love him. It's her blessing that makes him feel proud to introduce himself, knowing he holds the name of multiple Naveen men going back generations.
Lola Simmon, or Diamond when she's on the clock, actually came the easiest. I wanted a name that had her sounding attractive right off the bat and went looking at old jazz singers. With what I had in mind for what she looked like, it fit perfectly. There's almost a femme fatal edge to her character, with her mask being Diamond, while Lola is harder to get to know. Diamond; beautiful, eye-catching, yet impenetrable. Lola; strong-willed, loyal, fierce yet gentle. Only the privileged few get to know Lola, while the rest are kept at arms length.

Of all the characters in this tournament who did you expect to win vs who you wanted to win ?
There were tons of characters I would have been glad to see win (and as a new Check Please fan I’m perfectly happy to see Bitty take the championship) only a few characters I actually didn’t like were submitted, and they got knocked out pretty fast. I do have a clear Andrew Minyard bias though seeing as he’s my icon (and this makes me a Neil Josten stan too of course), but he honestly made it further than I expected. I was also rooting for all of the Six of Crows kids and the Casey McQuisten characters all would have been good for me; plus I thought most of them stood a chance of going pretty far. Carry On characters made it pretty much exactly as far as I thought they would actually. I was rooting for Danny Tozer to at least make it past round one, but I knew that wasn't likely to happen. I really thought my boy Rhy Maresh would make it further than he did 😭. And Ben De Backer is another I was hoping would make it a little further than they did, but wasn't really expecting it to happen.
I kinda figured it would come down to Gideon Nav, Ronan Lynch, or Nico di Angelo but then Nico and Gideon faced off early and Ronan got taken out by his own boyfriend (who I also voted for 😂 I contributed to the Great Pynch Divorce of round four) Gideon I was pretty confident would make it to the finals though based on TLT winning my queer books bracket and I was correct about that never would have guessed her competitors though if you'd asked me at the start

So Sweden has a winner!
It was the most predictable winner. And it makes me a bit bummed.
I do like Loreen a lot! In fact, I am very happy we for the second year in a row send a girl to esc instead of a generic boy that we sent for like 7 years in a row. Also, she has a bit of a ”weird girl” vibe, which I appreciate. Though, Cornelia last year was more in my taste. Also Loreen’s song, I am sorry, was not as good as Euphoria.
But what makes me bummed is that she’s already won before. She has already gotten her glory. So for her to win again now is like. Hm, I want the others to have a chance.
But you know, this is not the first or last person who has won mello more than once. I mean, Carola won the whole esc in 1991 and then won mello again 2006. Not to mention a lot of other countries also have done ”previous representants returning”. It’s nothing new in esc and tbh it happens with one country or another every year.
I just wish that we dared to send a little more funky, corny, not so serious song. I thought last year we started to break out of our shells with Cornelia. But we always seem to go with the ”safe choice”. We haven’t always done that though, it really started like… after 2015 really, I think. In 2007, we had this, which was like. Mm ❤️ Why are we so boring now? Not to mention in the 80s, when we had a song that had a bald man without a shirt doing an electric guitar solo, and also won the entire esc with a song about GOLDEN SHOES
And in Mello, we HAVE some corny, funny, ”just here to have fun” songs. But they get no points?? Neither from us Swedes ourselves, and if they do, then the international jury in the finale (aka our mortal enemy) will NOT give them points.
I gotta say, Sverige, du gamla du fria du smällfeta ko, VARFÖR HAR NI SÅ DÅLIG MUSIKSMAK??!! I’m not talking about Loreen, but like, the other good songs in the finale? WHY DID NORDMAN GET SUCH FEW VOTES? I understand the jury didn’t give them much because the jury has the most basic of music taste, but swedes?? THAT SONG IS THE ONE I HAVE BEEN BLASTING THE MOST?? And John Henrik Fjällgren?? ESC WOULD HAVE LOVED JOIK. THEY WOULD HAVE LOVED BALD MEN PLAYING A KEYHARP WITH 3D CROWS. THEY WOULD HAVE LOVED THE HARD ROCK BAND SMASH INTO PIECES.
AND ALL THE SONGS THAT DIDN’T GET TO THE FINALE. EDELWEISS?? SOBER?? HECK I KNOW UJE HAD A SOAR THROAT BUT HAVING GRYTAN IN THE FINALE WOULD HAVE SPICED IT UP SO MUCH - HONESTLY THESE THREE SONGS SPECIFICALLY, IF THEY WERE IN THE FINALE THERE WOULD BE SUCH A CONTRAST. SURE MAYBE THEY WOULDN’T WIN BUT THERE WOULD BE SUCH A VARIETY.
How tf did Marcus and Martinus place so high? Imagine if they would have won. Imagine. The norwegians would be so pissed. The irony.
Also how did Tone get 5 points? What is going on?
But there were highlights of this night
I really loved the hosts this year. Their dynamic ❤️
The fact that Paul Rey got loved by the jury and then got ONE point from the swedish people. I don’t understand how he even got to the finale. Did he rig the show??
The way Farah is ready to kiss any woman she speaks to in green room like fr 🫶 #giveFarahamellogf2023 /j
When Jesper interviewed random people on the street and one person walked away and said ”kiss in the butt” and I LOST IT. WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN-
Friends (the group) performing in Friends Arena
DANNY SAUCEDO (in the most ???? outfit like sweetie didn’t you do a whole middle act about your clothing style in 2013)
Either way. Wish we could have gotten some less predictable winner, cause it wasn’t much excitement I felt. I don’t hate the song tho and Loreen is a very good performer.
It was very fun to liveblog with my fellow swedes tho. I guess mello isn’t about the winner, it’s about the fun we had on the way.
See y’all in May.
