tw: suicidal ideation, suicide attempt it's important to me that varian has that nagging want for death in the back of his head. he has the amber solution and he wonders if it should've been him. he catches himself staring at the rocks and their sharp points. he refuses food in prison and stays up all night just to see if maybe that would work but it's also important to me that he doesn't actively start trying to put himself in life or death situations until midway through his time in prison. i feel like until that point he was determined on freeing quirin and would've kept going for that, that was his goal, that was his something to live for, but at some point, when you've lost everything, it's been so long, everything you tried failed and your father is as good as dead.. he gets reckless

he gets in fights with the separatists, he walks down dark alleyways alone knowing there might be a few people there who don't want to see his face, he doesn't wear proper safety equipment when experimenting, knowing those chemicals burn and those fumes are toxic (not like ever wore decent equipment in the first place though) and sets off more traps and bombs during fights than would ever be considered necessary and then he actually tries to blow himself up for the sake of the kingdom in the s3 premiere. airship scene how you haunt me

his desperation to return to form symbolized by his color scheme as well as trying to gain the trust of the mvps so he can have cronies again. bc being in control of people is easy. doing "business" is easy. hurting people is easy.

also lara not being able to afford her apartment after sam up and vanished and just moving into the manor against atlas's wishes is so funny. she knows he's the executor of the estate until she can prove her mother actually died in the himalayans but she genuinely doesn't give a toss. atlas sends her multiple threatening letters telling her to vacate the premises and relinquish her claim to her title, the manor, the trust fund, and all assets, and she just ignores it. we know she does send an affidavit back eventually, proving her mother was indeed dead and voiding his claim to his sister's assets, but the fact that she just ignored his threats and lived in a crumbling house is so insane. she really said "well I can't afford my tiny rat infested apartment alone so i will go live in the giant rat infested water damaged manor i'm actively being thrown out of"

Just beat Gascoiiiiiiiiigne

The farming really did help, I took the time to do some of the challenges I thought up last night and it was a good time! Kept me entertained as I ran around in circles, and it motivated me to target the big guys for extra echoes. Bought the axe and was able to upgrade my gun!

I even managed to play the music box this time, which I think was vital to beating him. It's hard to tell what he's doing when I'm in close, cuz of all the blood spray and frenetic movement, so I went for a more hit and run tactic than I usually do - I often sacrifice health to land big hits, which is absolutely coming back to bite me if I don't fix it soon. Already has a bit with Gascoigne.

I struggled a lot with the beast phase again, but this time I didn't attack at the start and instead let myself be chased around so he'd destroy enough of the graves to level the playing field. Made it MUCH easier when I was safely able to disengage after a strike and quite literally gave me space to heal.

And!! I got a visceral finish, and that felt AWESOME.
