We recently had the pleasure of visiting Adrián Fernández Milanés Studio @adrianfernandezstudio in New York City. 

 Due to the pandemic lockdowns, we were unable to attend the ‘Pending Memories’ 2020 exhibition at the Wifredo Lam Art Centre in Havana. But we this time we lucked out, and Adrián gave us a last minute private tour of his current studio in the Big Apple. We are thankful for his graciousness. 

 As always, his work left us breathless and generated so many questions: Is it about the past or about a near/distantfuture? It is history or science fiction? And so many disparate ideas come to mind: Utopia/Dystopia/Heterotopia, melancholy, memory, archives, hope, disbelief, Blade Runner/Planet of Apes, etc. 

 His new book “Adrián Fernández. Memorias pendientes” published by @editorialturner will be released soon. Do yourself a favour, and get yourself a copy!

Admiring and sketching Enrique Martinez Calaya’s powerful painting, “Summer” (2007), a part of “On the Horizon: Contemporary Cuban Art from the Pérez Art Museum in Miami” at the Frist Art Museum in Nashville. Pedro Reinaldo Alvarez  Pedro Reinaldo Alvarez Castelló (1967-2004) was a Cuban painter who rose to prominence during Cuba's Special Period. Alvarez was a native of Havana, Cuba. He studied art at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes "San Alejandro" from 1980-1985 and the Instituto Superior Pedagogico Enrique Jose Varona from 1986-1991. He was a member of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba. He married a Cuban woman and had a child. ive had such a hard time finding information about cuban art and media- even from my online circles on twitter and instagram. I am trying this new space to hopefully grow my circle of those interested in that subject as well as continue to learn about latinx culture. hopefully I’ll find some other cuban/ cuban diaspora artists like me
