Metaphor Re:Fantazio 7/13
So I kinda lost track of time and didn't notice how little time I have left to complete Kriegante Castle. I'm going to finish all my prep work today and head there tomorrow.
Darin could talk to Cuculus first, or he could visit Maria and talk to Cuculus later.
Maria can only be spoken to in the afternoon. However, we can turn in Cuculus's quest any time. So the most efficient thing we can do is visit our other bestest buddy.
Whenever you have a new drawing from Neuras, you can give it to Maria. Having a picture is not necessary to level up her bonds though.
I like that Neuras's signature includes a drawing of his glasses, eyebrows, and nose.
Maria had to go shopping and Darin goes with her. Once again, Maria uses spending time with Darin as an opportunity to reminisce about Grius. This time, she talked about a flower field Grius once showed her.
We meet a street orphan and Maria wants to help. Meanwhile, the people around them are showing their disgust at both. They're all Clemar. It's always seems like the clemar are the first to throw racist insults around. They can get away with it since they're at the top of the social hierarchy.
The kid's story is probably not too uncommon. His parents are dead and he ended up in Grand Trad when he escaped from a slaver. The memorandum has a section about slaves. It says you can't be born a slave and it is reserved as a punishment for crimes. However, a slave still has legal protections from harm and their owner will be charged if their slave is killed, seriously injured, or participates in further crimes.
But that's definitely not the situation this kid had. He was likely going to be sold to some noble who would either make the kid his servant or maybe even abuse him to death. And there are likely plenty of loopholes the nobles can use to argue that they aren't engaging in slavery ranging from paying their slaves just enough to claim they are employees to creating bogus crimes they can claim their slaves committed to "prove" they are actually acting out their prison sentence.
But anyway, Maria fears she'll end up on the streets. During Darin's conversation with her, she kept going back and forth between wanting someone to take her in and thinking she doesn't deserve to be taken in.
She went from thinking she'll end up on the streets because she lost her parents to asking if she can come along with you to apologizing for asking because she doesn't know what she can do to help.
But you know what? She should come with us! She can hang out with us on our travels and decorate the Gauntlet Runner's walls with crayon drawings of everyone. Then when we get to Brilehaven and are asked what great monster we slew, she can stand up and say "He slew my sadness and loneliness!" And everyone can see her smiling face and then everyone will want Darin to be king.
But since that's not an option, we can only assure her that she's a good girl and Fabienne is happy she's around.
Our bond with Maria leveled up.
With this, Darin now has 13 Archetypes available, though I'll need to get someone to master Cleric first. I'll probably have Darin do that.
Then Darin visited Cuculus. He gave him the ring and Cuculus got back the dagger in a not-so-honest way.
Cuculus approached the thief and said he had a message that the man's father was sick and the only treatment was an herb from Virga Island. He then convinced the thief to hand over the dagger to pay the travel expenses for Cuculus to go to the island and get him the herb.
Honestly surprised that worked. A complete stranger approaches you and says he has a message from your father saying he's deathly sick (This part is believable). But fortunately, the stranger also knows exactly how to cure him (What a coincidence) but needs money for travelfare to get the medicine. I guess paripus often have to pool money together for stuff like this since they aren't the wealthiest individuals.
Still, I'd expect someone to think twice about trusting a Nidia since they're stereotyped as liars and charlatans. And this particular Nidia is not beating the stereotypes.
By the way, the shortest window this entire quest can be completed is 3 days (Day 1: Get the dagger stolen and convince Cuculus to help then head for the Abandoned Tomb. Day 2: Explore the tomb and get the ring. Day 3: Give him the ring and he gets you the dagger). So there's enough of a window to plausibly say Cuculus was sizing up the guy to figure out how best to trick him into handing over the dagger.
Turning in the quest also finally leveled up my courage enough to continue Brigitta's questline. And for some reason, it improves Darin's popularity.
I think we should totally trust this guy. He most definitely is not trying to butter us up in any way.
And despite giving us another pre-handshake angle, hands are still unshaken.
Now we have a proper introduction. The man's name is Alonzo.
I've been watching a bunch of documentaries on brood parasitism in birds lately and I have to wonder if Cuculus is based on the Cuckoo bird.
Also, his mother calls him Cuculus when we see them together in the capital.
This feels ironic considering who said it. The only reason I shouldn't apply it right now is because he didn't make a fool out of Darin... yet.
I think there might be a game with that concept.
And we finally unlocked Alonzo's bond.
Alonzo unlocks the Faker. Faker specializes in debuffing the enemy. it's a bit tougher to wield since it's not an attacking class and some of its best abilities require very specific party setups. I think its most invaluable skill is Dekaja, learned at level 13. It removes all enemy buffs. It also starts with Faker's Roguery which has a random chance to add or remove turn icons. If you're low on turn icons, you might as well use the skill then I suppose.
When you master Faker, you gain a permanent luck boost.
I personally feel like the best way to implement Faker is by arranging things so that it acts between two units that can hit weaknesses. That way, it will consume smaller turn icons when it debuffs.
Darrin turned in a quest for the Queen of Cuisine which increased his ranking more. Then he got Hulkenberg's bond to rank 4 and Brigitta's bond to rank 7.
Timi slept all day.
Darin is level 26 and ranked 2466th. Darrin is level 29 and ranked 64th. Timi is level 23 and ranked 3766th.

On each of the constellation pages under the subheading "Clues to the meaning of this celestial feature" the symbolism and etymology of the name of the constellation is explored.
This study is based on the belief that each constellation has its own unique clusters of related concepts, and that the etymology of the names and associated key words will express their essential meaning.
The whole heavens is the ultimate or "overall" pattern in the concept of "cosmic order". Cosmic order relates to the Hermes Trismegistus' axiom "as above, so below"; the harmony between the heavens and the earth, the earthly order corresponding to the cosmic order. The heavens is understood to be the macrocosm, and man the microcosm; and hence according to Paracelsus the structure of the human body itself is the structure of the entire universe.
Man, the human being, the highest evolved product of the microcosm, is seen as the synthesis of all nature; animals, birds and each living thing emphasizing some unique or exaggerated feature that symbolically represents some function of the human condition, and some part of the human body.
Creation takes place in the micro realm. In ancient times, when the myths were written, this realm was a great mystery. Nowadays science has provided an understanding of this world, revealing metaphorical correspondences with ancient creation myths. I believe that the myths are always happening and that related words, etymology, will give the clues.
Words have energy and vibrate at different frequencies. I envisage each of the 88 modern constellations having its own specific key note, as on the modern piano there are 88 keys. If certainty could be achieved in allocating the correct words to the constellations we would recognize the harmony and have no doubts.
A number of constellations have a bird as its symbol. According to the medieval bestiaries, it is known that the names of many birds are invented from the sound of their voices, e.g. Grus, Corvus, Cignus, Bubo, Milvus, Ulula, Cuculus, Garrulus, Graculus, etc. (Crane, Crow, Swan, Owl, Kite, Screech-owl, Cuckoo, Starling, Daw, etc.). The bestiaries say that the particular kind of song they have suggests what they should be called. The names of birds in most languages, are of echoic origin, that often have a list of cognates that appear in Indo-European linguistic roots. The words used to describe the habits and shapes of animals are often cognate with their names.
Etymology is the study of the history of words. English is an Indo-European language and related to most of the major languages of Europe and the northern Indian subcontinent. Click here for a list of Indo-European roots and see how linguists have grouped words that are etymologically related to each other. I believe that each constellation embraces a number of these Indo-European roots.
Along with using these roots supplied by modern etymologists, I have liberally used interpretations of words from the 7th century AD Christian scholar Isidore of Seville (The Etymologies), and also from the 1st century Roman writer Marcus Terentius Varro (On The Latin Language), Plato, Plutarch and others. In some of the pages on this website etymological suggestions are offered that at this stage may seem plausible to me, a non-linguist, but are not recognized as etymologically correct. I believe this subject calls for a looser structure than would be allowed in the science of modern linguistics.
The more I dig into this, the more the mosaic pieces of the big picture begin to fit together. I am hoping to share information and insights, and that as understanding of the constellations progresses, patterns might emerge that will give more certainty and a truer picture of what the constellations mean. Relatively little is known about this subject and if we do want to know more we should start somewhere; reasonable assumptions and likely suggestions can be made until we are able to confirm whether or not they will fit into a given constellation pattern.
There are 88 constellation of which 40 are modern, named by scientists and astronomers with little knowledge of myth, or with little appreciation for the "sacredness" of what they were doing. If God named the stars as it says in the bible (Psalm 147:4: "He tells the number of the stars; he calls them all by their names") then it might be reasonable to assume that god inspired those namers, and these modern names are just as valid as the ancient names. As this project progresses we might find that we can identify some myths with these new constellations.
If you would like to contribute ideas and insights on the constellations, please join the discussion.
This website is very much a work in progress, and as this study develops I intend to make lots of changes, additions and revisions. Errors in identifications will be continually corrected.

Metaphor Re:Fantazio 7/05
I ended up accomplishing way more today than I expected to.
Daily tasks: Raid the pantry, take our lucky poop, and the washroom is finally working. You can use it once a day and it gives you a free 100 EXP.
Since Darin's imagination is finally high enough, he spoke to Pompous Man to get some help in retrieving his stolen dagger.
Rather than just help us and put us in his debt, Pompous Man asked to do a trade. We're to retrieve an item called Malveno's Ring from the Abandoned Tomb and then he'll help us get the dagger.
What kind of hubris does a noble need to have that they want an artifact rumored to be cursed to kill it's wearer?
I have half a mind to think Pompous Man set us up to need his help. The other half thinks it's mostly coincidence, but he's not letting an opportunity to have a potential king be indebted to him go to waste.
He's definitely strong-arming Darin into helping him. Every time Darin or Gallica say they don't want to help, he just dangles needing to get that dagger back and the possible treasure at the dungeon he needs us to go to.
And of course, the story is tempting us by giving us a certain angle shot between Darin and Cuculus. It's not hiding that he's going to give us another Archetype.
There's also a new bounty quest to hunt an Alpha Rockworm Valmo. It's located in Man-Eater's Grotto which is just past the village of Komero, meaning we can take care of Neuras's request and Gloomy Youth's request along the way.
Some townsfolk were talking about the candidacy and I'm glad they're talking about what I said earlier. They're not very fond of these candidates since they haven't lifted a finger to help Martira.
This Kind Old Woman in Cattlerack Road gives you some ingredients if you talk to her.
There were several other things Darin could choose to do today. There's still the catacombs in Grand Trad. Plus his tolerance is leveled up enough to talk to Maria.
I decided to commit sacrilege and not have Darin talk to my other bestest buddy today. Instead, he's going to Man-Eater's Grotto and completing all the quests he can along the way.
A farm house!
Now that Heismay is traveling with us, he's moved his hut to the runner's watchtower.
Until we finish our business in Martira, I cannot level up any party members' bonds anymore. So I can't progress Strohl's bond while riding the Gauntlet Runner. I guess my general plan with this stuff will be to do all the quests that get me an Archetype and save traveling to dungeons for when someone wants to talk on the runner.
Darin finished New World Travel Diary. The last section is about the author finding a cave with walls of translucent glass. I don't know if this is supposed to be literal or if it's the best way they can describe it given their experiences.
I kind of imagined it as a modern-day building with giant glass windows, but it could just be exactly what the author said. It's a cave where the walls are covered in reflective glass surfaces. You should say it sounds pretty to get the most points toward Imagination.
On the way to the dungeon, we reach a village called Komero.
Hulkenberg called the place barren, but Strohl is excited to be there. It probably reminds him of Halia.
The party inquires about the old inventor Neuras wanted to meet. The man has recently passed, but he left behind a journal and a glass ornament to anyone who asks about him. No one can understand the journal.
Neuras is excited to receive them both.
He says it's emitting some reaction that's not at all like magla.
He thanks Darin for visiting the old researcher and getting the relic. When Darin gives him the journal, Neuras identifies the writing to be a cypher and decides to continue his research. The journal has information on the location of other relics and Neuras would like the party to find them whenever possible.
He's going to decipher the code over time, but Gallica also can detect when we're in a dungeon with one of the relics.
This is a quest line that spans the entire game. This means Neuras's bond and the Gunner Archetype join Gallica and Catherina's bonds for ones that you have to continue the story to level them up.
Speaking of which. New Bond unlocked.
The Gunner Archetype is a long-range Archetype specializing in Piercing attacks. It doesn't suffer attack penalties that other fighters do when it's in the back row. In fact, its skills require it to be in the back row to work.
The gunner has piercing skills that can inflict status ailments and support skills that increase hit/evade. Overall, I think its abilities are great for an agility/luck build. Plus it finally provides some moves that deal piercing damage.
Back in Komero, Darin bought the Practical Pigeon Parcel and some bath salts called Fleeting Fountain of Youth.
Bath salts are items we can use later in the game. Each type permanently increases one of Darin's stats. The one in Komero gives him a permanent +2 Agility per use. That's essentially a whole level up.
We reach Man-Eater's Grotto, Strohl gets really antsy about killing all the valmos, and Gallica detects that another relic is within. But before that, Darin returns to Akademia because More has been waiting for him to learn the Gunner Archetype.
More wants to talk about why he was locked away by the king. More thinks it was probably because his Archetype research was on the verge of uncovering a truth the king wanted to keep locked away.
Sanctism forbids the study of Archetypes, and More was locked away and cursed to continue his studies without ever finding results.
More continues to hope that Darin's efforts will one day help free him from his prison.
To maximize MAG, say you'll help him when he asks.
Leveled up my bond.
More then request I learn and level up the Merchant Archetype to level 15. And uh... I haven't spent any of the Archetype EXP items I've been collecting so I was able to immediately teach Merchant to Heismay and buff it to level 15.
So Darin continued talking to More. This time, More remembered things about the fantasy novel he wrote.
More used to travel and the novel was based on his personal travelogue.
More mentions having several travel companions. I wouldn't be surprised if many of them have passed away or were killed for their association with More.
To maximize MAG, you need to tell him that writing his novel is worth praising him.
Leveled up my bond.
With this level, we can now see everything that will eventually get unlocked from our Followers.
For my next assignment, More wants Darin to learn 15 Archetypes. And uhh... I don't have that many.
A single person does not need to have 15 Archetypes unlocked. The party just needs 15 collective Archetypes unlocked. At the moment I have 9 basic Archetypes (Seeker, Warrior, Mage, Knight, Thief, Healer, Brawler, Merchant, and Gunner) and 3 adept Archetypes (Magic Seeker, Swordmaster, and Magic Knight). No one has the prerequisites to use any of the Adept Archetypes right now but I'm working on it.
There are two more Archetypes I could get as well, but I won't be able to complete this request until I complete Kriegante Castle.
Now back to Man Eater's Grotto. The recommended party is Two Mages. The informant tells you that Alpha Rockworm Valmo is weak to ice and you have to defeat all of them in one go.
The Vampiric Gelatinos and Juvenile Rockworm Valmos are weak to Ice, the Gangaflo is weak to fire, and the Nocpur is weak to wind.
Since I want to get Darin, Strohl, and Hulkenberg to unlock the Magic Seeker, Swordmaster, and Magic Knight Archetypes, I had them go in with Seeker, Warrior, and Mage. Heismay was also a mage.
But part way through, I got Hulkenberg's Mage Archetype to level 10 which is a prerequisite to unlocking Magic Knight so I switched her to Knight once that happened.
I also equipped everyone with Bot, Blizz, Medi, or Patra to cover any gaps in my offense. The plan was to simply hit em where it hurts and use stuff like gablizz when facing a lot of enemies.
The dungeon is has a lot of winding paths and different elevations to climb or jump down. In these kinds of dungeons, I like to fully explore one elevation as much as I can, pick a path to a higher or lower elevation, explore that section as much as I can, and repeat.
When in doubt, call on Gallica to find hidden passages, jumpable ledges, or crawlspaces.
One of the treasure spots is a gold beetle so make sure to grab everything you can.
Another Talkative Tooth.
It's advice this time is to fight tougher enemies to get more EXP. The tougher they are, the better. You also get less EXP if you fight only weak enemies. I'm not sure if that's true about battles, but you get only half the rewards if you kill an enemy on the overworld.
You can find the relic Gallica detected early in the dungeon.
It will be marked on the map and near the entrance. You can reach it using a crawlspace.
This is the meanest setup. You turn the corner to see an elmenta. And you're obviously going to go recklessly charging at it...
...And it leads you toward a chimenza.
During the dungeon crawl, Strohl maxed out Warrior so now is as good a time as any to talk about this.
When you max out an Archetype, you get a permanent stat boost to your character. Of the ones I have the permanent boosts are:
HP: Seeker, Brawler
MP: Mage
Strength: Warrior
Magic: Healer
Endurance: Knight
Agility: Thief, Gunner
Luck: Merchant
Archetypes along the same lineage give the same bonus but stronger versions give better bonuses.
One of the best considerations Metaphor made is there's no such thing as wasted Archetype EXP. When you max out an Archetype, it can still get A-EXP, and every 1,000 A-EXP causes it to produce a Hero's Leaf of Light, which you can use to give another Archetype 1,000 A-EXP. So this means you don't have to force yourself into using a subobtimal party out of fear you'll waste A-EXP. You can stick with a mastered Archetype and then transfer its gains to a different one.
This also means later party members like Heismay can quickly catch up to the party if you have everyone else use mastered Archetypes and feed their gains to the newer members.
Something else worth noting is Archetypes get stronger as they level up. In most cases, a basic Archetype gives a grand sum of +5 stats at level 1 and +24 when maxed (Some will apply a penalty to a stat and give even more points, but the penalties and bonuses still sums up the same). Meanwhile, Adept Archetypes give an initial +10 sum at level 1 and +29 sum at level 20.
The main point is a mastered Basic Archetype is stronger than its newly unlocked Adept form.
So unless there's a skill or synthesis you really want, it might be better to stay in an earlier form, generate Hero's Leaf of Lifes, then switch over when you can pump it up to level 10 with them.
Let's go ahead and skip to the boss.
They resist Slash, Pierce, and Smash; and are immune to fire. They're weak to Ice and you need to defeat them both on the same turn or else they summon another to help.
So the best party is one with AoE moves. I'd say the best party is two Mages, a Seeker, and a Healer. And you want to finagle a few things so one of the Mages goes first each turn and the other goes second or third.
The plan is as follows: Have a Mage use Gablizz to hit both bosses. Since it hits their weaknesses, you'll now have 2 small turn icons and 2 big icons. Then Seeker or Healer can use the small icons to hit with with Gacyclo and Mahama. And then repeat with the second Mage.
Once the party wins, Hulkenberg comments on the toughness of their skin and says the larvae they ate must have undergone extensive prep before cooking them. And it turns out Strohl's enthusiasm to finish this quest was so he could forget about when they ate the larvae earlier.
Darrin completed Kriegante Castle and is beloved by the people of Martira. Timi slept the whole day.
Darin is level 24 and ranked 3766th. Darrin is level 25 and ranked 981st. Timi is level 23 and ranked 3766th.
