A concept:

Tony has mostly learned not to ask too many questions when he's around teenagers. He doesn't understand most things, and quite frankly, it's just easier to claim ignorance than confusion at this point. (Peter has explained "skibidi" to him three times now and he still doesn't get it.) He just tries to provide a safe place for him and his friends. Sometimes that means he's bewildered, but it's better that way. He figures it's just a rite of passage. He still remembers how flabbergasted Jarvis looked when he described something as 'tubular.'

He's just grateful that there weren't so many cameras when he was a kid. It seems like they're everywhere, and there are so many video trends it makes him tired. Luckily, Peter and his friends seem to at least be aware that the internet is forever, so they're not doing stupid shit like doing drugs or throwing slurs around. Mostly they just post pranks. Most recently, he's pretty sure MJ and Ned duct-taped Peter to a door so he'd startle anyone who opened it. Which seems. Harmless? Whatever.

But his practiced chill all seems to backfire when he walks in on them in his kitchen "because the lighting's better here than in a conference room" with pictures taped to sticks being stuck in cake. "What is this?" he asks tiredly, because he knows it's too late to pretend he didn't see them.

"It's a hear-me-out cake, Mr. Stark," MJ answers in that way of hers that is somehow both flat and mischievous.

Tony blinks at her slowly, trying to figure out what reaction would please her least, then gives up. "Why are you doing it in my house."

"Because I don't want Aunt May to see I've put Doc Hudson from Cars on a hear-me-out cake," Peter answers.

Tony squints at the pictures already on the cake. "You've got a lot of nerve to put a picture of Timothee Chalamet on a cake and say 'hear me out' about it," he finally says.

"It's specifically Timothee Chalamet in Wonka," Ned defends immediately.

"And Doc Hudson is just a good-looking classic car, it's not weird," Tony continues, ignoring him. "I have a Hudson Hornet. I'll take you kids out for a ride when the weather gets better."

MJ holds up one of her pictures while Ned and Peter gape at him wordlessly. "I have Lady Tremaine from Cinderella."

Tony leans closer, putting his hands on his hips and huffing in offense. "You chose a picture of Cate Blanchett instead of the original cartoon. You guys. You can't say 'hear me out' about conventionally attractive people, no matter how mean they are in their roles."

"Oh yeah?" Peter asks defensively. "Then who's your hear-me-out, Mr. Stark?"

"Hexxus from Ferngully," Tony retorts, and then, "At least bring me a piece of cake when you're done." Then he grabs his coffee and heads back for the workshop.

He only realizes what a mistake that might have been when JARVIS tells him that his Twitter is blowing up but he only really understands when he sees that Tim Curry himself has responded to the video Peter posted of him with "The highest of compliments, surely."

"Pepper is going to be so mad at me," Tony breathes when he sees people are already drawing fan art of it.

Stephen spends the next two weeks ducking Tony’s calls and portaling away whenever he drops by the Sanctum. He can’t avoid the alpha forever, but he’s desperate for some distance. Although Tony had made himself clear, he hadn’t actually asked Stephen if he could share his heat. Stephen had run before he could, because he’s not sure that he’d be strong enough to say no. 

Wong, however, is not so easily avoided.

The arguments he’s marshaled in favor of Stephen accepting Tony’s help are legion: the negative effects of severe heats on Stephen’s body (treatable), the limits regular exhaustion puts on his power (they’ve never had those resources before, they can hardly be missing them now), the risk if he’s attacked when he’s recovering from a heat (that’s his decision to make), the risk to reality if he’s unable to meet an attack on Earth during his recovery (he’d drain himself fatally before letting that happen)... Wong is unrelenting.

Stephen has just sat down to dinner when Wong joins him, looking intent. “Wong—” he says, tiredly. “Please—”

“I think you are underestimating the emotional damage,” Wong says, digging a fork into his plate of curry. There are three varieties over rice, courtesy of Kamar-Taj. Stephen had been looking forward to it.

“Isn’t that an argument against sharing my heat with Tony?” Stephen asks.

“Not of saying yes,” Wong says. “Of saying no.”

Stephen stops eating, brow wrinkled. “Saying no is maintaining the status quo,” he argues. “There’s no emotional damage. Why would that change?”

“How do you think Stark will feel when he sees you next,” Wong says, holding Stephen’s gaze, “worn and weak, and knows that he could have helped, but you didn’t trust him.”

Stephen’s heart clenches. “It’s not about trust.”

“He doesn’t know that, and you can’t explain it in a way he’ll believe. But he won’t blame you.”

“He’ll blame himself,” Stephen says quietly. Vishanti, the thought hurts.

Wong isn’t done. “And how will you feel, in the midst of your heat, knowing that your alpha would have been there, had you not sent him away? Do you think that will make it easier?”

Stephen doesn’t answer. They both know it would almost certainly make it even worse. Both physically and emotionally. In the midst of his heat, Stephen won’t be thinking rationally. He’ll only be aching for the alpha who isn’t there.

“I know you are worried how you will react to having him there and then not having him,” Wong says, “but I don’t see how it would be any different from how it is now. You had him there, in the futures that never were, and now you do not have him.”

“They weren’t real,” Stephen says, but it’s weak.

“They were real to you, or you wouldn’t be having this problem at all,” Wong returns.

Stephen is silent, staring down at his dinner.

“That he can’t be your mate doesn’t mean he can’t be something else,” Wong says gently. “Perhaps something just as precious.”

“And if I let it slip?” Stephen asks, looking up at Wong. “That it’s Tony himself I’m needing?”

“You were confused,” Wong says easily. “You would not be the first omega to get mixed up between your alpha and the alpha who is there, in that storm of hormones.”

Stephen can’t be sure if Wong’s arguments truly make sense or if he just wants it so badly that he’s letting them override his better judgment. Either way, the answer’s the same:

“Very well. I’ll call Tony and tell him yes.”

imagine if tony stark kissed steve rogers on the cheek in captain america the winter soldier (2014). tony only appeared for less than a minute, and spent that entire minute holding steve’s hand and calling him pet names and making Significant Eye Contact.

and in this alternate reality catws, steve and bucky only interacted in the most tender and heartbreaking flashbacks known to man, never in the present, never touching even in the past, but always yearning. but you know what, we all thought bucky was 100% dead, died offscreen sometime after the first cap movie, with the possibility of resurrection off the table. we never thought we’d see him again at all after that.

a couple years after catfa, bucky made a surprise cameo in some other avengers movie, let’s say, thor the dark world. but oh no, in that movie he promptly died from being crushed to death by a giant statue sculpted to look like tim curry. not that the statue obviously looked like tim curry, but it was like, a subtle easter egg put there to piss off the gays.

so honestly, in this version of catws (2014), we’re just glad we get a tiny smidgen of emotional closure from the first cap movie, and we’re thrilled that sebastian stan got to come back to our screens. is it what stuckies wanted, no, but it’s not nothing. hell, we got some stony! we got steve constructing the intricate rituals! given marvel’s well established track record, it’s more than we could have ever wanted for captain america: the winter soldier (2014) and we get up to exit the theater with huge smiles on our faces.

but then! in the post credit scene, there’s a bucky. not Our bucky, but one who’s alive and well and seemingly happy wherever he is. a bucky who’s one of the most powerful people in his universe, a bucky who’s collected his universe’s infinity stones. a bucky who’s one of the only people who can make a portal across realities to get back to Our steve. and apparently this bucky is friends with sue storm.

imagine this, really think about it, and you will understand why I am going insane over The Marvels (2023), and especially Maria Rambeau, right now.

After a brief stint in the third installment of the Captain America franchise, Tony Stark was brought back to reprise his role as Iron Man in the fourth Captain America movie, Avengers Assemble. Tony had spent most of his twenties becoming a household name as a rising star in Mexican telenovelas, and Avengers Assemble is his breakout role on the big screen – and, more importantly, his introduction to the mainstream US audience.

Even after the movie is completed, Steve and Tony’s friendship remains a source of support that they instinctively rely on for encouragement and guidance. Tony’s fearless approach helps Steve break out of his comfort zone, and Steve’s solid grounding helps Tony focus on what matters.

This promotional tour is a new experience for Tony, but with Steve’s help, his learning curve isn’t so steep. Steve’s learning curve, on the other hand, is life changing.

One day, a portal opens up in the middle of Toni's workshop, leaving behind two men who apparently are them, Captain America and Iron Maiden, well, Man, from another universe.

But that's not the only thing that Steph finds bizarre. What's also bizarre is that Captain America and Iron Man are together.

Together in a relationship.

And apparently somehow, they're not the only pair.

(Or the five Steves who convince Steph to confess her feelings to Toni and the one Steve she has to convince to confess to his own.)

my thoughts: i love the idea of steve helping his multiversal counterparts find their way to Tony. It’s important to me in a way I can’t explain.
