If the CV boot is damaged you must replace it immediately as failure to do so will damage CV joint/driveshaft which is an expensive affair. It's very important that you check your CV boots on a regular basis. Should you see any damage replace it asap with high quality plastic German make boots and grease. "Why does my car click when I turn?" After a short road test the clicking noise was painfully apparent as well as a significant vibration at all speeds. The picture below shows the Driver's side axle that's completely missing the outer "CV Boot". The boot holds the grease in place so it can lubricate the joint. Without any grease in the joint the axle just wears away. The only repair here was to replace the axle.
