We are thrilled to be part of #ReframingTheMuse Platform curated by Sotheby's Institute's @Millington_ruth and presenting wonderful works by @DeborahAzzopardi @isabellevanzeijl @elaine_w_macgregor @halfaroastchicken @ashleyjanuaryart @felix.chesher and @adeyemir3. Each year Platform invites an exclusive selection of galleries to present work by well-known, overlooked and emerging artists aligned to a single distinct theme chosen by a guest curator. Platform 2023 aims to highlight the diverse individuals, past and present, who have inspired artists to draw, sculpt, paint or photograph their immortalising portrait. Turning the tables on traditional accounts, it will invite questions about the collaborative role of the muse, beyond romanticised notions of the passive model. The 2023 edition of Platform is curated by Ruth Millington, an art historian, critic and author, specialising in Modern and Contemporary Art. Her specialist research interests include working class, outsider and women artists. She has written for publications including The i newspaper, The Sunday Times, The Telegraph, Daily Mail, Sorbet Magazine and BBC Online and is Director of Careers at Sotheby’s Institute of Art. She has featured as an art expert on TV and radio, including BBC Breakfast, Sky Arts and ITV News. Did you know I'm very afraid of bugs? Well I am! Luckily I grew up with entomologist cousin @embzsentimento who would give me the facts whenever I encountered a bug I really didn't like, and it helped me rationalise my fear. I've now taken on some of that research myself and have been exploring different species I've encountered or really don't like. Here's the latest from my series False Threats . A Scolopendra damnosa, commonly used in North Korean medicine to cure ailemts ranging from headaches to nerve disorders. Next stop for 'Fern Girl' 🌴 Palm Beach Modern+Contemporary (23-26 March 2023) 🔆 Regram @cynthiacorbettgallery Our next stop: Palm Beach Modern+Contemporary (23-26 March 2023), the most important contemporary art fair of the winter season, presented by Art Miami @artmiamifairs. In celebration of #WomensHistoryMonth we have prepared an exciting and diverse, international curation for Palm Beach Art Fair. Out of our 12 wonderful artists we’ll be showing, nine are female artists and five of these phenomenal women will be making their debut at this year’s edition of the fair.  We are thrilled to debut Brooklyn based Japanese artist @Yuko_Nishikawa #YukoNishikawa, Scottish-born Chinese artist @elaine_w_macgregor #ElaineWooMacGregor , Irish painter #TuëmaPattie (who will be celebrating her 86th birthday this year), Transylvanian Surrealist @CristinaSchek, Swiss artist @christinabenz.ch #ChristinaBenz and African diaspora artist @FreyaBrambleCarter  In addition, we will exhibit for the first time ‘Queen’ by British Pop-Artist @DeborahAzzopardi new works by Dutch fine-art photographer @IsabelleVanZeijl and fresh botanical works by American artist @klari_art #KlaiReis.
