As much as the two of them had had difficulty getting along, they were still tethered to each other. Cloud would defend and protect Aegnor with their life and they only hoped that the same could be said for the drow. Otherwise, they would not survive this. A hand lifted to press against the man's chest as they moved to stand in front of him. The lorendrow were behind Aegnor which meant they were also behind the warder. "I, um...don't let me hold you back if anything happens." There was only blood on their mind at the moment, but they hoped that the bit they'd had beforehand would satiate them throughout the battle. Or maybe they'd run into an enemy that had blood that appealed to them. Either way, it was a handicap that they were not fond of. "And don't do anything stupid."

The new addition to the court had been occupying all of Somniar’s time. This winter chancellor was fun to experiment with given the exasperation that had been on her face after her interaction with his Queen. He could have decided upon reprogramming her, but what fun would that be? No, he wanted to make her miserable. That was what these fey deserved. To be looked down upon was the drow’s least favorite pastime. Looking back on his life in the Underdark, he would never let such a thing happen again. There was absolutely no love lost with the eladrin that inhabited Rome. Maybe he had known them in his past life, but he would never come to learn that information. It had been over three thousand years since he had woken up in the Underdark. What his life was before had not mattered to him if he had a reputation build up. Perhaps there would be a point in time where he would like to know, but that moment had not happened yet.
Crouched down in front of the cage one particular eladrin was within, he tilted his head to observe them. Mindflayers were interesting little creatures, but they were also the best way of getting these fey under his thumb. It was how he had always operated. The only thing that could have distracted him from his current fascination of watching this person squirm were the footsteps of someone approaching him. Somniar would probably know those footsteps anywhere. “Aegnor.” He stayed crouched, his head the only part of him turning to face the other drow. There was a new addition to the lot of eladrins, it seemed. This caused him to get to his feet to walk over to them. A blade conjured from the darkness within himself found itself within his hand. “Another?” The question was pointed towards Aegnor as he stood in front of the...well, it seemed like a winter one. No matter. The blade lifted in his hand to bring to the eladrin’s neck. “You’re going to cooperate with me, aren’t you?” Their mind would soon be gone, but it was good enough to make it seem like they had an option. It made the whole experience more fun. For him, at least.

Melpomene had not needed to say it, but they could see it. Which was why the warder had to have this conversation with Aegnor. They weren't sure that the drow would care much, but they would not have the other try to dig them out of something they were not meant to escape from. Cloud simply nodded their head for a moment, letting the drow's words sink in. They had heard the stories of Aegnor, but they had always formed their own opinion on people. The man that they now warded was barely someone they should have called a friend. Really, he was kind of horrible at talking to people. But so was Cloud. Maybe that was why it seemed like this arrangement would work out for them. They hoped they had done a good job. For Theneras. For Aegnor. For...Mneme. "Okay, Aegnor." At least they knew that there was someone on that battlefield that would have their back. "I'm as prepared as I will be. Are you prepared? Are they prepared?" They waved a hand towards the lorendrow that now followed their wardee. "You're a leader now. You have more to look out for than just me."
Cloud had not been a choice that Aegnor had made willingly. It had been a choice made for him, and in those early days, he had tested the bounds of how dedicated the warder was to their position. Did he respect the other now? Yes. Did he appreciate having the warder during this war? No. For Aegnor would likely do something stupid. He aimed to put everything on the line to insure survival for the fey, and the drow alike. Even if he were not there to shepherd in this new age for the drow. He wished only to eliminate the hold that Ayi'ig had upon them. "I will do everything in my power to stay alive," for Aegnor knew precisely what had happened to Cloud's last wardee. What the fey had done, and what it had cost those around them. "But I will also do everything in my power to ensure that you do not get left behind." Aegnor did not know what it was like to lose a warder, not really, and he did not intend to find out anytime soon. "Do you have what you need for this battle? Are you... prepared?"

If there was one thing that was certain, it was that Cloud and Aegnor were two very different people. Where the warder was more of an extrovert, the drow was introverted and cold ninety percent of the time. It didn’t much matter to them though. They were always willing to put aside a lot of differences to get along with someone. Then again, they didn’t really have much of a choice with this one. They were bonded to the drow now. They had to protect him regardless of if they got along or not. Cloud was determined to make sure they actually did though. So, when they saw him in the forest, they actually chose to speak to him. “Are you avoiding me, Aegnor? That’s not very nice.”

There had been a time when the two of them hadn't gotten along at all. To be honest, Cloud had thought they would eventually have their connection severed and they would be back to trying to figure out what to do with their life. All they had ever been was a warder. It was all they had trained to be. That was what their mother had made sure of at least. A noble person destined to become a warder to those they were on the same level with. Now look at them. They were something between a fey and a vampire and they couldn't figure out how to make sure it didn't get in the way. And they would not have Aegnor's life on the line because of it. "No. You will protect yourself first and foremost. Even if that means leaving me behind. I can protect myself without you. As you can do without me." They cleared their throat. "If you die, I will not forgive myself. So just do that for me please."
Don't do anything stupid. Once upon a time, those were the precise words that Dareth would tell him before they went into battle. Or rather, before they did just about anything. It had been some of the last words that warder and wardee had spoken to each other, before the prince had been struck down in battle. Lost to the darkness and the Underdark. Before he had returned to them, memories intact, and born anew. It would be with this new strength, with the lorendrow behind him, that Aegnor would not let history repeat itself. "You and I are connected, Cloud," he stated as he looked down at the other. He had been reluctant to have another warder, even after he understood the reasoning. But the other had been persistent, and Aegnor could respect that. "We fight together. If you should find yourself in trouble, I will be there to draw you out."
