Today's song is My One and Oni by Danny Baranowsky and HATSUNE MIKU, from the album Crypt of the Necrodancer x Hatsune Miku!
Yeah so this is fucking insane for me, I am a longtime Crypt of the Necrodancer fan and seeing a Miku collab on my favorite rhythm game is just incredibly surreal. There are two original tracks composed collaboratively by DannyBStyle and Miku for this (the other one is Too Real which is also fantastic), as well as 13 of Miku's other songs being adapted for Necrodancer. This is so fucking hype and coming out of absolutely nowhere, Necrodancer fans are eating GOOD right now.

Part 1 collab with @penguinpartypalooza ✨
Tumblr media
T-this is ridiculous…!
Two missing penguins and it hasn’t even been a full week…!
Tumblr media
Hmm?
*growl* there must be something we’re missing…
We caught the culprit from the previous case… why is stuff like this still happening?! Let alone missing penguin cases-!
Tumblr media
GHAA! This is hopeless!!
Whoa- G! What’s the matter??
Tumblr media
*groan* Too much is the matter…I can’t even think straight- I haven’t even had my coffee for the day- my brain is all scrambled…. We’ve had multiple reports within the past couple days of missing penguins and even more puffles and no sign of what’s actually causing it…
Sure we caught the previous culprit…but even PH says that they only eat fish….that poor penguin…we don’t even know what actually killed them-
We’ve traced the samples off the body from that reindeer puffle and all traces still led to those wolves…! We must be missing something…o-or we caught the wrong puffle- or-
Tumblr media
G- calm down and breathe-
What’re you even talking about for one- what culprit?? And what penguin?? What do you mean reindeer puffle…? It’s nowhere near the Holiday Party-
Tumblr media
That…thing- that puffle there is the supposed culprit for a reindeer puffle’s death…which would have to be a penguin due to how reindeer puffles are even found to begin with….or so we thought… it was from a few days ago….
Wait huh??
And it turns out that this one hadn’t even done anything…! There’s no traces of reindeer anywhere…! It was all just fish and berries..! We don’t even know who this penguin was..! They’re permanently stuck as a puffle and are now dead-!
Now we have to start from square one on this case to figure out what could’ve actually harmed them…cause there’s no way it could’ve been Herbert… e-even then…
Hold that thought-
Tumblr media
We found a new species of puffle!? And nobody told me!!?
Wha-
Dot…please focus on anything but that…this is serious-
Right, right sorry- you were saying??
*sigh* well…. To sum it up before you get distracted yet again… we came across a dead puffle…we then caught this puffle, only to find it wasn’t even what caused the incident of killing a penguin turned puffle in the first place….now we have to start over-
Not to mention…more penguins have been seemingly going missing since then…and it’s not getting any better…
Missing penguins..?! That’s awful…has anyone found a lead for any of them?? Like anything at all?
Only thing we kept coming across was the same thing…wolf fur- and that just kept leading us back to these puffles… since there’s no other source it could’ve come from…
Hmmm…that seems a bit suspicious to me- what if something or someone is trying to make us think it was these puffles?? I mean cmon- aren’t these fellas supposed to be all sweet and cuddly??
About that- this one here just about ripped open JPG’s arm…and PH could barely approach without it growling and snapping at her face…plus even I couldn’t approach it for even a moment to get a good look at it before it snagged a couple feathers off me… therefore they’ve been put in this cage for the time being… so no, they’re far from friendly…quite the opposite actually- like any other wild creatures I’d assume….
Awwww but can we still keep em?? Maybe they can become a guard dog!! I mean Herbert hates puffles right? What if we used these guys to scare him off??
Dot no- we’re not-
We could tame em and teach em cute dog tricks- oh! Do they come in other colors?? Maybe I can even make little outfits for them all~
Dot-

Mausoleum Mash is referenced in Final Fugue through the chord progression. Whether this is intentional or not, I do not know, and it's actually driving me nuts.
Here, I even mashed them together in Audacity for comparison's sake. (Final Fugue is slightly faster at 148 BPM compared to Mausoleum Mash's 140 - you can't sync them up from the above excerpts)

“FEAR ISN'T PURE BIOLOGY, BATMAN. IT'S MORE THAN INSTINCT. TRUE FEAR IS THE ABSENCE OF HOPE…”
// Hey, I’m the mod, call me Lys, I’m a young adult who uses mainly feminine pronouns. Welcome to the intro post!
This interpretation of Jonathan Crane doesn’t really apply to any preexisting canon, it’s a mix of what I liked in preexisting iterations and stuff I thought was cool.
Basic info for my Jon:
Name: Jonathan Alonto Crane Age: 43. Ethnicity: Half-Filipino and half-Choctaw but was raised by Mrs. Crane after the death of his birth parents. Occupation: Underground rogue/distributor of arms and substances (currently), Head psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum (formerly). Relationship status: Taken by @mister-riddler
I’ll pull up reference photos later and extra info later on. But no NSFW or bigotry on any asks or reblogs since my following includes minors. 15+ please.
That’s it for now.

Video Game Track Bracket Round 2
Fountain of Dreams from Super Smash Bros. Melee
youtube
vs.
Dance of the Decorous from Crypt of the NecroDancer
youtube
Propaganda under the cut. If you want your propaganda reblogged and added to future polls, please tag it as propaganda or otherwise indicate this!
Fountain of Dreams:
One of the relatively few songs from Melee's OST that was actually performed by a live orchestra. Goes hard as all hell. What else can I say?
Dance of the Decorous:
The best (IMO) song in an incredible OST. Danny Baranowsky went hard with this one

Today's song is Chipzel's cover of Portabellohead, by Daniel Baranowsky, from the album Chipped of the Necrodancer!
This is the first song I've posted which is a remix/cover of another song, and it's because Chipzel's music is incredible. She did a cover of DannyBStyle's album 'Crypt of the Necrodancer', which has each of the songs in her signature chiptune soundfont. They're all really good, but for some reason she decided to go INSANELY HARD on this one and add a bunch of extra riffs and flourishes. This song is available in-game alongside the original version, because the entire soundtrack gets remixed by a different artist depending on what character you're playing, which is so cool.

what sort of other game soundtracks or composers (especially indies but either way) have inspired your work?
Oh gosh, this is such an amazing question!!!
Personally I (Lindar) have so so so many inspirations because I'm a music lover, I'm 37, and I've been playing video games as far back as I can remember.
So first and foremost I have to give a shout-out to Lena Raine because back in like… 2016(?) I was trying to take my studio to a more professional level and invest in some stuff beyond what just comes with any given DAW, so I reached out to her and she was kind enough to answer my dozens of questions and talk shop with me. She is ultimately why Studio Thumpy Puppy has its current sound. I don't know her personally, but she was an absolute sweetie to me, extremely helpful, and y'all know she writes banger after banger track.
Gotta mention Ben Prunty, who is an absolute legend in indie soundtracks.
Met Disasterpeace at Day of the Devs 2016 along with a bunch of other legends in the scene and what an encouraging sweetheart!
Of course I'm a huge fan of Sadie Greyduck who is one of my composers! Go check out her Bandcamp or look for her on streaming services!
Love me some Darren Korb. Honestly like every Supergiant game has been a banger, but it wouldn't be the same without those soundtracks.
On that note you can't go wrong with Danny Baranowsky. Love me some Necrodancer!
Also y'all gotta check out M Gewehr (MWGewehr on birdsite).
Also gotta mention 2Mello who does amazing work and makes some of the funkiest beats.
Of course if we're talking about 2Mello we gotta mention Hideki Naganuma! UNDERSTAND! UNDERSTAND! THE CONCEPT. OF LOVE!
Oh gosh and then Winifred Phillips does amazing work.
While we're here I know she's not a game composer but go listen to Wendy Carlos!
Then there's like… all of the various people across games like Doom, Quake, Borderlands, etc. Sasha Dikiciyan, Jesper Kyd, Mick Gordon…
Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy), Kiochi Sugiyama (Dragon Quest), Yoko Shimomura (Street Fighter), Takashi Tateishi (MegaMan II), Hip Tanaka (Metroid, Earthbound), Koji Kondo and Toru Minegishi (Legend of Zelda), Daisuke Amaya (Cave Story), Eirik Suhrke (Downwell), Daisuke Ishiwatari (Guilty Gear), the sound team on Sonic Adventure 2, Masato Nakamura (Sonic 2), Brad Buxer et al (Sonic 3&K)…
So let's also take into account that a lot of the game soundtracks that have inspired me over the years are influenced by things that aren't game soundtracks, because those are a relatively recent invention, so we have to talk about how Plantasia by Mort Garson is a direct inspiration for Ocarina of Time and "Dancing Mad" from FF6 is literally just Tarkus from Emerson, Lake & Palmer. A *lot* of early game composers were just prog nerds who listened to like… ELP, King Crimson, Rush, Yes, Magma, Van Der Graaf Generator, Camel, Caravan, Gentle Giant, Soft Machine, Gong… and then also a lot of more popular 80s rock that I'm not gonna list out…
The history of music is absolutely wild and there's so much inspiration out there it's absolutely baffling. Go listen to stuff you've never heard before, analyze it, understand what the appeal and aesthetic is, listen to the last 100 years of the pop charts and then learn where that music came from and who their influences were… go listen to motown! Listen to bebop and jazz and future funk and central Asian folk music and like… get out there and expand your horizons, because like… there's SO MUCH good music out there.
