the heir apparent of the travers legacy, antaine’s name would likely carry a lot more weight if the rest of his family was not so deeply mired in scandal. between his father’s extremely public divorce, his mother’s reputation for tackiness, and finn’s flagrant disregard for the pureblood way of life, it’s a wonder he’s managed to secure himself any kind of future at all. still, a well-placed betrothal to the daughter of a foreign official, a head for strategy, and a commitment to maintaining blood purity have earned him many friends and admirers amongst his fellow death eaters. if only this sentiment was shared by antaine’s father, whose approval he desires above all else, in spite of his hatred for the man.

connections

finn travers: once they were thick as thieves, but growing up changes many things, and antaine’s relationship with his younger sibling is one of them. though they were both sorted into slytherin house, each of the travers siblings got something very different out of the experience: antaine some new friends and a troubling set of core beliefs, and finn the absolute certainty that they were never going to fit in with their pureblooded peers. finn misses the way their relationship used to be, and often wishes things could go back to the way things were, though there’s little chance of that now. they don’t know that their brother has sold his soul to the dark lord - or maybe they just don’t want to know.

arden conway: it wasn’t what she had planned for her life but as arden has recently taken up the dark mark she has also taken up a betrothed within the travers family after her parents have told her it was a good idea. unfortunate for antaine, the girl hasn’t made it easy being a submissive fiancé she holds a lot of reservations about the the eldest son, a secret feeling for their sibling finn, and an uncertainty about the future of their marriage. depending how antaine and arden play their cards this could be a wonderful or disastrous marriage.

additional details: Sturgis was always pretty good at being a big brother, but for a while there as a teenager, he was also the family fuck up, and if his younger sister being the baby of the family wasn't enough, she was (and still is) the "angel" of the family anyways. And that's fine by Stu, really. She deserves it. The Podmores are pure, but they come from more modest means than most of their pedigree, and aren't involved much in society as a family but in a war like this ... things can always change!

the second daughter and youngest child of the demir-ogden’s, rosmerta was often times pushed to the side without their parents even realizing. so much of their time was spent preparing the sons of the family for taking over the wizengamot seat and ogden’s old firewhisky business. while still coming from a wealthy family, rosmerta decided after school to buy out one of the inn’s in town, successfully doing so with the three broomsticks. this way they were still involved in the family business, and didn’t have to be succumbed to the life of marrying pure to produce children and attend parties like their older sister has. that wasn’t the life rosmerta wanted to live. however, doing so caused rosmerta to officially be cut-off from the demir-ogden trust by their mother, and the stress of running and inn and bar has caused them to reach out to some not so good people for help. without customers or anyone else knowing, the back of the three broomsticks has now turned into a storage and safe keeping area for some illegal and dangerous dark artefacts. will rosmerta reach out to her family for help or continue to let themselves get into some place much darker?

connections

aydin demir-ogden: the brother only a year older and the one they’re closest to out of tiberius and hande. aydin is the heir and now runs ogden’s old firewhisky — something rosmerta secretly wanted to be part of. they hold no ill will towards their brother, especially when he’s the one that visits them the most while at work. the only issue? rosmerta is too scared to ask him for help or money, especially when they’re too embarrassed to admit they might be in trouble and have no idea how to get out of it.

additional details: the (potentially long suffering) reserve seeker for the ballycastle bats, if anyone has a particularly acute reason to have a grievance with emma, it would be them. a string of last minute call ups and their recent stint covering for emma’s suspension has the eyes of the powers that be within the bats looking to this person for a more permanent role. emma might be good, but she’s trouble, and its starting to look like more trouble than she’s worth, especially with such a good understudy ready and waiting in the wings.

additional details: the finnigan family were thought to be a family of muggles, however, not only are Thomas Finnigan’s wife and stepdaughter both witches, but his son, Connor, has gone and married a witch as well. vincent crabbe iii, the eldest and most respected and loved out of the crabbe siblings. when he was born he already had the world at his fingertips, his parents knowing that great things would become of the boy. quickly after he was born came the second eldest mary-jane, and then the baby of the family, beatrix, it wasn’t long until a certain secret about the youngest came to light when their mother had split from the family, making sure to never be heard from or seen again. vincent iii father remarried augusta longbottom, merging the two families together, forcing tension between the eldest children who did not get along with each other. there would be many days and nights of fights and forcing to break up the two boys who could never agree on one thing and that rivalry stayed when they both went to hogwarts and ended up in the same house.

he wasn’t nice when it came to people that weren’t like him, often tearing them down and causing violence when he could, though there had been one particular incident that would have cost him his entire reputation if it weren’t for his father stepping in. he was in his last year of hogwarts when he saw frank with his at the time partner, and from what he knew of his partner, they were a muggleborn, lesser than, in his eyes and he had known to get in fights with his step brother from time to time but this to vincent had been over the line, he had reacted quickly and frank had been blindsided by it when he heard petrificus totalus and was about ready to send another curse their way until frank had stepped in, deflecting it.

vincent crabbe iii would have been expelled that night if it hadn’t been for his father and their name, and he would have to live with that for the rest of his hogwarts career because he was either praised for it or shamed for it by classmates, but that night had let him know one thing: he was untouchable, he could do anything with this power that he had been given and had made sure that everyone else knew it too, especially frank.

so it was no surprise when he decided to become a hitwix, he knew that it would be helpful for the cause, having fully believed in it and would do anything to make his father proud of him, to bury all of that hurt and anger from his mother leaving. despite that one time, he has still gotten away with various things but he’s more careful about it now, often working in the shadows like a certain leader that he pledges his allegiance to. vincent is more than willing to tear down those that get in his way even his family members and that makes him dangerous and he likes it that way.

CONNECTIONS

BEATRIX CRABBE: if beatrix crabbe wouldn’t say boo to a goose, she certainly wouldn’t say it to her older brother. vincent iii has terrorised her for most of her life, sharing his father’s disgust for her weakness and lack of magical ability. he’s made it perfectly clear that trixie is to blame for their mother’s departure from the family, and though she smiles through it, his assessment hurts her deeply. when they were children, vincent would frequently put her in dangerous situations, trying to force her to perform magic that simply isn’t there. she has nightmares about him, even now.

MARY-JANE CRABBE: where there’s the prodigal son, lies the lost daughter. born a few years after vincent iii, mary-jane was made into the doll their mother always wanted while their father spent his hours on him. she desired his spotlight, to not be turned into a play thing, to fight dirty and show everyone she wasn’t some fragile thing — and she’d show him when no one looked. even if mj takes care of their sister more than anyone else, deep down, mary-jane and vincent are more alike than they care to admit.

FRANK LONGBOTTOM: ever since their parents got married there had always been a rivalry between the two who were about as different as night and day yet both ended up on the more violent side of things when it came to each other—a split household on what was right or wrong, where frank became an auror, vincent became a hitwix, where frank tried to do the right thing, vincent made sure to do the wrong thing. you could never win between the two who barely keep it together for family gatherings on a good day. they will never see eye to eye no matter how much frank tries to see the good in people he doesn't know if he'll ever be able to nor forgive vincent for all of their crimes.

AMALINE ALLAIRE BURKE: pureblood circles are small and all are acquainted, and that's no different for amaline and vincent — small conversations had been had, minimal pleasantries exchanged, and that is all that they have going for them as the betrothal was arranged. it works well on paper — amaline's last name provides connections and alliances to both the english and the french, and she would certainly prove a perfect wife: well bred, well mannered, beautiful and with little known ambitions of her own. what isn't common knowledge is amaline's connection to the order of the phoenix as an informant, her devilishly sharp wits and her ability to play perfectly dumb if need be — as far as she's aware, marriage (although not something she wants for herself) will provide the best place at the table to gather relevant information. no one ever suspects the gentle, pretty young wife, and that is precisely how she plans on playing her cards.

additional details: Alistair Borgin is the second oldest borgin sibling, he’s never been particularly paternal, always more head then heart. Alistair is very cerebral, he was a ravenclaw in school to no one’s surprise, and he always put his mind to good use. He is now an accountant for half of knockturn alley and is making a very good living independent of his family. He finds himself close to his brother Cain but struggles with affection for the girls, though he really does try. Alistair can be cold and calculating, he sees everything as an equation to be solved and this has had a hard time keeping a partner. He is a loyal and marked death eater, he even calculated the maths designed into the dark mark itself. He doesn’t come round the shop much unless Cain is there too, which seems to suit everyone just fine.

mary isn’t the first wix in their family line, not by a long shot. unbeknownst to her and her parents, the branch of their family stemming from her father’s uncle iain, which long had a reputation for being interesting where all that and more. iain being a muggleborn wizard that started the new halfblood macdonald family. the side of the family that gave rise to magnus ‘dent-head’ macdonald, long known to mary as MAD COUSIN MAGNUS.

eldest child of magnus, where his younger brother malcolm inherited their father’s temper, morgan took more after their mother in most regards. too often consigned to being the peacekeeper, the level headed one when tempers inevitably flared the fact morgan took to that as his work shocked no one. less still when he joined the order of the phoenix when it was nothing but a fledgling. but with age comes an exasperation, for his dent-headed father and also for how the war has rooted deep in his family. the tensions in the wider macdonald family are nearing boiling point and morgan has been the one trying to keep things merely simmering for too long. a younger brother and a cousin just as wild as each other with a sister tired of them both, morgan swears he’s going grey early over his one common ground with his brother putting him at odds with his sister. what he sees as the natural desire to protect their family, even their cousin mary who some days seems to seek out trouble.

mary macdonald: a silly little childish thing, in mary's youth morgan had been the least favourite of the two cousins that came by in the summer to babysit them, if only because morgan did the job properly, not letting mary get into their usual scrapes that malcolm was usually right behind mary in. but being the least favourite does not bely any lack of affection between the two, even if its something they both express in ways that might seem a little foreign to the other. a staunch supporter and loyal member of the order mary's desire to fight is something morgan deeply understands even if he lacks the same fire behind his actions as the younger wix does but it's his work as an auror that has brought the two closer than they'd ever been in mary's youth. advocating for a case that too many wrote off as a prank gone wrong, mary's case. pushing his department to look deeper and when his efforts to investigate himself were stopped due to his closeness to the matter, insisting his cousin got nothing but the very best the department had to offer. and its something mary can never repay him for... though morgan says just keeping their head down from now on would be more than enough.

malcolm macdonald: it is a rare sight to see the brothers in a room together these days that doesn’t end with one storming out, rarer still when you add their father into the mix, but things had never been smooth sailings between morgan and malcolm. morgan the elder and more sensible of the pair to malcolm’s loose cannon of an approach to life things have only been exasperated by what’s become an open secret between the pair: their vastly differing stances on the war they’ve both found themselves in. but that division also plays into the common ground that sometimes seems the only thing they can agree on. that that secret stays between them and that they’ll both do anything to protect their family. both little jeannie who keeps her head down and little mary who they both played a part in babysitting summers home from hogwarts.

jeannie macdonald: jeannie and morgan’s closeness is something that’s waned a little of late. a sister once proud of her brother being a man of the law growing exasperated at the risks he deems as simply necessary. a brother once glad to see his sister keeping her head down now near pulling his hair out at how single minded she’s becoming. its a testament to how well both preserve that things have never sunk to the level of vitriol things often reach with other members of the macdonald clan.

isaiah brinan: as the eldest in the line of cousins, and furthest in age from isaiah, especially having been fostered by the macdonalds so late in life — morgan is easily the biggest enigma to the student. he wouldn’t go as far as to say morgan scared him... aloud. but he’s certainly prone to keeping more quiet, more of a distance with morgan than he does malcolm or jeannie. still, he is vaguely aware that morgan is a stable feature in the macdonald lives, and would align much more closely with the man than he would either sibling, should the chance to get to know him enough to do so truly arise.

mary macdonald: mary and malcolm get on like a house on fire, are highly likely to set a house on fire if left together unsupervised for too long but such a thing serves only to drive a close bond between the two. a shared coarseness between the pair (that could be called an acquired taste by a charitable soul) leads both to their closeness in personality and nature and yet also is the source of a secret that if unveiled would force the cousins apart. while malcolm might be a death eater, he also believes there should be an exception to every rule and his exception is his muggleborn cousin. the young wix he baby sat as a wean, who’s first big show of accidental magic he was witness to, who’s fire he thinks should never be extinguished — maybe just hidden away for a spell? if mary could just make themself less of a target his job would be a lot easier, and yet what would he do in the same situation...

isaiah brinan: malcolm is, by all accounts, one of the biggest storms to shake up isaiah’s life under the foster care of the macdonalds. and malcolm's always been the fun one, sure. eager from day one to tell isaiah how excited he was to have a little brother figure in his life -- and maybe that shows too much at times. isaiah is nothing like malcolm, he's patient and reserved and eager to make others happy. but malcolm seems to forget that, bringing isaiah in on schemes or events isaiah'd otherwise be the voice of reason against if it were anyone but malcolm. but because it is him, and he is, to most extents, a positive figure in both his and mary’s lives, isaiah’s not finding himself eager to draw a line between them any time soon.

jeannie is magnus’ youngest child, grown up in the magical world but with ties to their muggle family still though less pronounced than with her older brothers who often found themselves babysitting muggle cousins...  and one muggleborn wix cousin. with her older siblings now stuck on different sides of the war and she herself staying neutral the tensions in the wider macdonald family are nearing boiling point. both brother’s and her father united by wanting to protect everyone in their extended family, what sets jeannie apart is her dislike for her younger cousin.

mary macdonald: mary and jeannie should’ve been close. should’ve. but the reckless fire that drives mary has become nought but a bane to jeannie in their overlapping years in hogwarts. where is her younger cousins common sense? where is their sense of self preservation? where is the care for how their actions impact others? their family? jeannie herself?  in her eyes mary’s shown that they don’t care about the family in their repeated antics so why should that same care be extended to mary. the apparent resemblance between the two (something both wix claim not to see) only adding fuel to the fire, jeannie a few times catching jinxes meant for mary.

Isolde Mulciber was the middle child-- one year younger than Yvain, two years older than the twins. She was also the eldest daughter, though, and so was much closer to their mother than the other siblings were. The discovery that their mother had been poisoning them (details here) wasn't easy for any of them, but Isolde seemed almost too interested in the details. 

Trouble seemed to follow her around as she grew older-- nothing she got caught for, not like Yvain and Avalon, but trouble nonetheless. Schoolyard fights seemed to escalate beyond reason and grudges never seemed to quite fade.

YVAIN MULCIBER: Yvain and Isolde never seemed to see eye to eye, arguing more than anyone in the family. At least they used to-- it's gotten harder for Isolde to say anything after Yvain took the blame for something that could have ended her career.

AVALON MULCIBER: Maybe it's projection, but Avalon's been rather distant lately. It seems weird to ask-- and Merlin knows Avy would lie if she did-- but maybe taking the blame hit rather close to some.

CADERYN MULCIBER: If there was one person Isolde would go to any length to protect, it's Caderyn. He doesn't know what happened, probably wouldn't like it if he did, but she'd do it again in a heartbeat.

( man / non binary | utp | bill skarsgard ) —— isn’t that YVAIN MULCIBER? yeah that is them, outside the three broomsticks! they used to be in SLYTHERIN but apparently they now work as a JOB in/at the PLACE. sybill once said that they reminded her of at least four aesthetics, which seems about right. anyway i’ve heard they’re still a bit TRAIT, TRAIT, and TRAIT, they’re TWENTY-FOUR now but some things never change! i wonder how being a PUREBLOOD is affecting them after school, especially now they’re a (MARKED/UNMARKED) DEATH EATER? i guess only time will tell…

Yvain was the oldest of the Mulciber siblings: one year older than Isolde, three years older than the twins. After what their mother did (details here, two medical abuse), he tended to be untrusting and in particular disliked strangers being around his siblings. That would likely be where the Mulciber siblings' tendency to cause trouble as a group started-- they did everything as a group. 

He managed to get all the way through school without any punishment more severe than (many) detentions, but started to rack up accusations and such after graduation. family money swept most of it under the rug, but two years ago he stood trial for something Isolde did. Though he was acquitted, it was by a 'not proven' verdict.

ISOLDE MULCIBER: All of this would be easier if Isolde would listen, but she doesn't. Still doesn't, even after Yvain almost went to Azkaban for her. If she thinks she knows everything, she can solve her own problems next time.

AVALON MULCIBER: Yvain's not under the illusion that Avy's some little angel, but he is proud of her. He has to admit he's biased in saying that, though-- they always got along best.

CADERYN MULCIBER: Merlin, there's some things Yvain like to say to him. Mostly that it's time to grow up and stop hiding behind Isolde-- but, of course, it's Isolde that won't let that conversation happen.
