“The actions are intended to illustrate the contributions of immigrants in the United States, particularly Latino immigrants. Hundreds of business owners in Washington, D.C.; Pittsburgh; Boston; Philadelphia; Austin, Texas; San Jose, California; Des Moines, Iowa, and other cities are participating in the protests.
United for Change, a group based in North Carolina that helped organize today’s protests, wrote on Facebook, “This will be a peaceful day. While the economic effects of the boycott are unknown, most initial reports indicated that the boycott could cause to halt ‘business as usual.’”
Erika Almiron, the executive director at Juntos, a Latino immigrant advocacy organization in Philadelphia, told ABC News that her team is trying to send a message to Americans, asking, “What would happen if all of us were disappeared the way Trump wants us to?”

'Day Without Immigrants' protests across the U.S.
Immigrants across the United States stayed home from school and work on Thursday to show how critical they are to the nation’s economy and way of life.
“A Day Without Immigrants” actions took place in a number of cities, including Philadelphia, Boston, Houston, Chicago, New York, and Washington, D.C. The protest gained momentum on social media and by word of mouth.
It comes in response to the policies and proposals of President Trump, whose administration has pledged to increase the deportation of immigrants living in the country illegally. Trump campaigned on a vow to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and blamed high unemployment on illegal immigration. As president, he has sought to bar people from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S.
Organizers expect thousands of people to participate or show solidarity with workers during the day of protest. (AP)

Be the change you need.
My parents never let up, they always got back up after every fall. I find that immigrants are a different kind of people, we only know a life through obstacles and nothing was ever handed to us. We spend most of our lives fighting an inconvenience that can sometimes be so big it’s nauseating. We keep on though, because somehow we’ve become so accustomed to living through this lens that it almost feels normal but we’re aware it’s not. We have jobs that aren’t ideal, we get paid below minimum wage at times, we are over worked, we are tired, we are sometimes helpless from feeling so weak and vulnerable. In a sense we are warriors. We are brave and courageous. We take on what most would never. We know when to appreciate what we have and how hard to work in order to get to where we want to be. We’re in on the equation that is the working class. We know we aren’t being treated fairly, we know it’s not right but there’s only so much we can do about it. We push through. We get up every morning and do what has to get done to survive. I’m proud to be an immigrant. I’m proud to be the son of immigrants. I’m proud to know hardships some will never know. This is both my curse and my advantage. My resilience will never be taken away for me.
I’m proud of my family because we came here having only a couple changes of clothes, we didn’t even have a bed to sleep on. We slept on the floor of a room we rented for half a year, on a blanket. My dad moved up from being a busboy to being a manager in less than a year and has been managing that same restaurant for almost 18 years, a restaurant he would have owned years ago if he had the documentation to do so. My parents are true entrepreneurs and in a sense I feel like a lot of immigrants are too because opportunities are scarce and you have to figure other ways to make opportunities for yourself. Now they have three rental properties and have no mortgage on a single house that they own. I don’t know if we’d know success if we never had to meet struggle first.
To all my immigrant brothers/sisters from anywhere and everywhere, I love you and I’m here for all of you. Regardless of documentation. Regardless of religion/creed. Regardless of anything. I feel your fear and I know your hopes. I know your paranoia. I know you’re not a criminal, I know you try hard every day. I know you just want a better life for yourself and those you love. I know how hard times can sting and the scars they leave behind for years to come. Just never give up. Never let up. Never forget that you are a force and that’s why people are so threatened by you. You are a force that can change the world. But the world doesn’t change in one day so hang on. There’s so many of us and we are not invisible as much as some people wish we were. Remember that you are not alone. I hurt with you and I will thrive with you.

You know what's stupid:
When people think that just because they're a minority or because they don't get what they want, they should get a special day off about it. We had the #daywithoutmexicans and the #daywithoutwomen but in my town white people are the minority so can we have #daywithoutwhites? Or can we have #daywithoutlefties because left handed people are a minority, people used to think it was satanic to be left handed.
