Daily Drabbles for 6/16/25 - 6/20/25
6/16/25 Kambor leaned his head on his palm as he stared disinterestedly at the monitor. It was the middle of the night and his shift was almost over. Kambor was more than ready to go home and get some sleep. Kambor sat up suddenly. He had seen movement on one of the screens. He zeroed in his focus on the camera facing the back entrance. There was definitely something back there. Kambor wasn't sure what it was. He held his breath for a moment and then groaned loudly. The dang raccoons were back again. Kambor grumbled to himself as he stood.
6/17/25 Tilly didn't have any time. Everyone was waiting on her. But she knew if she didn't get this project done now, then she'd be up late tonight working on it. And Tilly really didn't want to keep staying up super late. She was trying to get everything done early in the day so she could spend the rest of it with her family without having to worry about her work. It was hard though. Her family was bad at telling her their plans ahead of time. Like right now for instance. They all wanted to go. Tilly needed to hurry.
6/18/25 Erin took a sip from her glass as she surveyed her farm. She was thinking of completely rearranging the layout of everything. She hadn't really been thinking about aesthetics when she'd first set everything up, but now that she was further along in the game, and had finished most of the major quests, she wanted to pretty up everything. Erin was just sizing up the lay of the farm and trying to decide how she wanted it to look. Erin took another sip from her glass and set it on the desk before descending upon her farm to bulldoze everything.
6/19/25 Enalee still hadn't gotten the hang of folding the newsletter into thirds to fit it in the envelope. She'd been sending them out for a few months now, but her folding technique hadn't improved much. Either she made the first fold too big or too small and had a bunch of paper hanging off the end. At least she was able to fold them down enough to fit in the envelopes. Enalee would have preferred to send the newsletter by email, but most of the women she was sending it to didn't have email addresses. So, snail mail it was.
6/20/25 Becky was starting to get frantic. She could swear she packed her phone charger. She had only reminded herself about a hundred times to unplug it from the wall and throw it in the backpack with all her other stuff. Becky could see the charger in her mind, curled up and sitting on top of a bag containing her toothbrush and toothpaste waiting to be packed. Becky checked another pocket of the backpack. The toothbrush and toothpaste were there. So she hadn't forgotten them. The charger had to be in there somewhere. Becky started pulling everything out of the backpack.

Daily Drabbles for 6/11/25 - 6/15/25
6/11/25 Una's hands flew over the keyboard. The words were pouring out of her. She was well on target to hit her writing goal for the day. Una just had to wrap up the scene she was writing. The final one for act one and the introduction of the main villain of the story. Una's fingers halted, hovering above the keys. She still hadn't come up with a name for the villain, but she needed to put something down to continue the scene. All she needed was a placeholder. She could come back and change it later. Una's mind went blank.
6/12/25 Abby had forgotten to close the closet door before turning off the lights and now she was deeply regretting it. Abby laid in bed staring into the dark gap in her closet door. She knew there was nothing in there. She knew it. But… It was hard not to think of all the things that could be in there. Impossible as it may be. In the darkness, who could say what was impossible? Abby was frozen. As much as she hated staring at her closet, she hated even more the idea of rolling over and turning her back to it.
6/13/25 Mia looked at her shoe carefully. Thankfully, she had managed to avoid getting any of the sauce she had spilled on it. The floor was much less lucky, but the floor would be easier clean than Mia's white sneakers. Mia delicately placed the pot back on the stove. She had been trying to pour the sauce into a bowl when her grip had slipped and she'd dumped a bunch of it on the floor. There were some splatters on the cabinet doors, but other than that the mess wasn't that bad. Mia just hoped she still had enough sauce left.
6/14/25 Eddie wandered aimlessly through the museum. He had left Danny back at the World War 2 exhibit when he'd gotten bored with it. Now Eddie was moving from room to room only pausing to read the occasional plaque here and there. Eddie had somehow made his way to the neolithic section and stopped in front of a case of stone arrowheads. They were pretty cool looking so Eddie stayed and looked at them for a while. Then he moved to the next case where they had more tools made out of stone. Eddie found it all fascinating to learn about.
6/15/25 Julia was completely lost. She was pretty sure she was somewhere in Europe where they spoke German, but she couldn't narrow it down from that. She moved swiftly up the road looking for any kind of sign that might give her a better clue where she was. Trees lined both sides of the deserted road. Julia had seen a couple of buildings earlier, but the architecture had told her nothing. All she really had to go on were the couple of road signs she had spotted along the way. They had looked German, so that was what Julia would guess.

Daily Drabbles for 6/6/25 - 6/10/25
6/6/25 Ambrose, Iago, and John ran through the woods with reckless abandon. Ambrose had no idea where they were going, and he suspected that John didn't either. If there had been a trail they had long since left it behind. The trio trampled their way through the underbrush, forcing themselves between the close growing trees. Ambrose's hair was full of twigs and leaves. His pockets were full of dirt, but that could have happened anytime. Their wild careening came to an abrupt halt when Ambrose tripped over a fallen log and fell into a bush, taking his friends down with him.
6/7/25 Ooba was not feeling well. She had a bad case of Upset Tummy Disiese and was having a hard time being brave about it. Ooba was desperately trying to remember everything she had eaten recently that might be the cause of her current intestinal woes, but could think of nothing out of the ordinary that might be the culprit. Ooba ate what she always ate. She might have some kind of bug, but the lack of any other symptoms made her feel like this was unlikely. It was simply a mystery that Ooba could not solve to her great discomfort.
6/8/25 Larry tapped the paper with his pen. He wasn't sure what else to put in his letter to his sister. He'd already told her all about their parent's trip to California to visit Jeff and Rachel. That had been a whole affair with the trouble they'd had changing planes in Denver and getting lost in the airport. Larry had written about how his job was going, which was the same as usual. He'd talked about the weather, mutual friends, what the rest of the family was up to. There really didn't seem to be anything else left to tell her.
6/9/25 Shawn inhaled deeply. The restaurant smelled heavenly. A good sign. He hadn't been sure about the place when Chrissy had first recommended it, hole-in-the-wall places were always a big risk, but Shawn was willing to give anything a try. Now that he and Chrissy were standing in line waiting to order and Shawn had a chance to look around a little, he was beginning to suspect that Chrissy was on to something. He knew coming in that this was either going to be the best Mexican food he'd ever had, or the worst. Fortunately, it was looking like the former.
6/10/25 Coleen raised the bottle to her lips and took a sip of the cold cream soda. It was just the thing on a warm summer afternoon after a long walk in the muggy woods. Coleen and Gareth were sitting together on the front steps while Blue lounged on the lawn with a stick he'd picked up somewhere between his teeth. Beside her, Gareth held out his hand and Coleen passed the bottle over to him. It was the last one they had, so they had both agreed to share it. Coleen didn't mind sharing. She drank too much pop anyway.

Daily Drabbles for 6/1/25 - 6/5/25
6/1/25 I glanced over the six visible thumbnails on the YouTube homepage, but none of them caught my eye. I checked my subscriptions, but there wasn't anything in there I wanted to watch that I hadn't already. So, then I looked at my Watch Later playlist. So many videos to choose from. None that I was in the mood for. After checking the homepage again and finding nothing, I finally gave up and closed YouTube. I stared at my computer screen for a minute as I tried to decide what to do. I could read a book. Instead, I opened Tumblr.
6/2/25 Chori's stomach rumbled. She was starting to get a headache. She knew she needed to go have dinner, but she was almost done with the art project she was working on. She was coloring in a sketch she had done earlier and had gotten completely absorbed in the process. Chori frowned at the sketch. There was something off about the colors, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. She tried adjusting the hue of the piece to see if that would do anything for her. Then she played around with the saturation and contrast. Her stomach rumbled again.
6/3/25 Daniel circled the parking lot again, but could find no open parking spaces. It wasn't a very large parking lot to begin with, so it often filled up on the weekends. Daniel was beginning to suspect that he was going to have to park on the street if he didn't want to keep circling the parking lot over and over. Daniel really didn't want to do that though, as he didn't like the idea of having to carry his food all the way across the parking lot to get back to his car. Daniel circled the parking lot once more.
6/4/25 As per usual, it was a slow day at the office. Margo was passing the time by painting her nails. Sonia was in her office playing games on her computer. Honestly, that was how she spent the day even when things weren't slow. With Sonia the only time she was actually working was when she wasn't at the office. Though Margo had been the one to push for them to open a physical location that people could visit. She had been certain that it would bring in more clients for them if people could just walk in off the street.
6/5/25 Amanda settled in at the table and pulled out her bag while she waited for her drink to be made. She slid out her laptop and set it up on the table, then she pulled out a couple of notebooks and a mechanical pencil. Once she had everything arranged just how she liked it, Amanda opened her laptop and turned it on. She glanced over at the counter. Her order still wasn't ready. There had been a few people ahead of her in line, she'd probably have to wait another minute. Amanda could start writing, but she decided to wait.

Daily Drabbles for 5/26/25 - 5/31/25
5/26/25 Mikey ate in silence, completely lost in thought. Beside him at the table Al and Jeremy were chatting along happily. Making more than enough conversation between the two of them without any need for input from Mikey. They were talking about some new game they both had been playing. Yet another roguelike from the sound of it. Not that Mikey had anything against roguelikes, there were just a lot of them lately. He wasn't paying much attention to Al and Jeremy though. Mikey's mind was on the show he had been watching last night. He still didn't get the ending.
5/27/25 Simon was lost. Again. The old house was just too big. Simon could never get used to it. It was far more like a museum than a home. Simon certainly couldn't imagine living there. The endless hallways and drafty rooms creeped him out. Simon peaked into a random room hoping for some sort of clue to where he was. It was another bedroom. That was marginally helpful. At least Simon knew he was in one of the wings that had all the guest rooms. He still didn't know which direction to go to get to the front of the house.
5/28/25 Justine crouched down to look at the lower shelves. Nothing. Her foot size was just too common. She couldn't find any shoes she liked in her size. Every time Justine came across a pair that she thought were really cute, she'd find nothing searching for ones that would fit. Justine had found her standards steadily slipping the more shoes she looked at. She was currently considering trying a pair of plain black pumps that were half a size too small for her. Maybe she could make them work. Justine sighed and stood up. Maybe she should try a different store.
5/29/25 Erick had completely lost track of Nadine. One minute she had been standing next to him while they looked at a tank full of colorful tropical fish, and the next thing he knew she was nowhere to be found. Erick slowly wandered through the aquarium keeping his head craned to scan over the crowds of people. Nadine had been wearing a bright pink bucket hat, so she should have been easy to spot. She wasn't looking at the otters, the rays, or the shark tunnel. Erick glanced in the gift shop as he walked by and spotted her at once.
5/30/25 Cleo licked her lips. The woman was opening a can. Surely, that could only mean good things for Cleo. Good and tasty things always came out of cans. The woman finished opening the can and started walking with it. Cleo lurched forward to weave between the woman's legs and walk with her. Just to make sure she knew where to go. Sometimes the woman seemed to forget where Cleo's food bowl was and Cleo had to do a lot of work to remind her. Not this time though. The woman was heading directly for Cleo's bowl, as she should be.
5/31/25 Joel poked at the piano keys sluggishly. He was in no mood to play today. But Aunt Matilda was expecting something from him. After all, he was supposed to be the great musician of the family, wasn't he? Joel heaved a sigh and plonked out Yankee Doodle with one finger. He glanced over at where Aunt Matilda was sitting and watching him with a disappointed frown. Joel sighed again and placed both his hands on the keys and sat upright. He hammered out the most mechanical Moonlight Sonata he'd ever heard. Joel looked to Aunt Matilda. She actually looked impressed.

Daily Drabbles for 5/21/25 - 5/25/25
5/21/25 Nellie paused her walking through the woods. She could hear a knocking sound coming from somewhere above her. It was a very specific kind of knocking sound. Nellie spun around as she tried to identify where it was coming from. There was a woodpecker nearby. Nellie was sure of it. The sound seemed to be coming from behind her, so Nellie retreated back of the trail a bit. She paused again and just listened. Yes, that was definitely a woodpecker. Nellie took a few more steps and stopped again. There! She spotted him in a tree ten feet above her.
5/22/25 Orangey jumped up on the counter. He wasn't really supposed to be on the counter when the stove was on, but this was a dire situation. Melinda didn't immediately notice him, she tended to be distracted when she was standing at the stove. Orangey meowed loudly at Melinda. She yelled back at him, but didn't turn around, her focus was still entirely on the stove. Orangey meowed again, even louder this time. Melinda yelled back. They both yelled at each other for a minute until Melinda came over to see Orangey. Finally, Orangey could tell her it was dinner time.
5/23/25 Maria leaned back against the wall of pillows and stuffed animals she'd piled up behind her in bed and squinted at the tiny screen on her phone. Watching videos on her phone wasn't something she ever did normally, the experience was just so inferior to watching on a bigger screen, but Maria just didn't have it in her to get out of bed and go sit at her desk. She was dealing with one of the worst colds she'd had in years and she was far too weak and tired to do anything besides lie in bed and cough pathetically.
5/24/25 Douglas had a headache. Which was unfortunate because he still had work to get done. It wasn't fair. Here Douglas was tiredly tapping out yet another inane e-mail on his computer when he should be sitting under a blanket on the floor in the corner of the room. Or sticking his head in a bucket of ice water. Or maybe he just needed a nap. The point was there were any number of other things Douglas would much rather be doing that typing out all his stupid little e-mails that were preventing him from going home. It just wasn't right.
5/25/25 Doris sipped her tea and watched the couple across the coffee shop having an animated conversation with each other. Doris couldn't hear a word they were saying, but she enjoyed watching their body language as they interacted with each other. The woman was energetic and made large gestures with her hands while the man was more relaxed but made more extreme facial expressions. Doris had no idea what they were talking about, but they were having quite the discussion. She would almost call it an argument except the couple were far too friendly for it to be anything truly serious.

Daily Drabbles for 5/16/25 - 5/20/25
5/16/25 Charlotte bobbed her head in time with the music as she folded socks. There was a big pile of clean laundry in the middle of her bed and she wanted to get it all put away before dinner so she didn't have to worry about it right before bed. She'd gone to all the trouble of dumping it out of the laundry basket, the least she could do was fold it all neatly. It shouldn't take that long. It was just that Charlotte found it all so tedious. But at least she had music to help with all the monotony.
5/17/25 Devon glanced into the nursery. Tucker was fast asleep, but Edie was nowhere to be seen. Devon wandered down the hall into the master bedroom. Edie wasn't there either. Devon tried texting her and immediately heard a ping from the other side of the room. Wherever Edie was, she didn't have her phone with her. Devon wished he could just call out for her, but he didn't want to wake up Tucker. It was hard enough getting the kid to take a nap in the first place. Devon would just have to keep searching the house; as quietly as possible.
5/18/25 Skyler glanced up from his book to watch Juanita across the cafeteria. She was staring intently at a notebook and nodding along as someone talked to her. Skyler knew the other girl by sight, but if he had ever learned her name he had long since deleted that information from his brain. She was just another one of his classmates. Though she seemed to have some pretty interesting information to pass along given how focused Juanita was on what she was saying. Skyler might have to look into that later. For now, he'd leave Juanita to it and keep reading.
5/19/25 Chuck shook his box of Cracker Jacks to shift its contents around. He'd already found the QR code for the dumb little game on the dumb little Cracker Jack app that he was definitely not going to download, but he hadn't found the little paper that had the joke or riddle or a sticker. Chuck shook the box again. There was nothing in there but sub-par popcorn and like three peanuts. It was baffling. Was the QR code the prize? What was even the point? Where was the novelty? What a waste. Next time Chuck would forget the Cracker Jacks.
5/20/25 Noah tapped his thumbs on the steering wheel as he crawled down the freeway. There was some construction going on up ahead and the traffic was barely moving. His commute to and from work already took about forty minutes on a good day. Today he was probably going to take over an hour to get home. Noah had to come to a stop as cars merged into one lane in front of him. Hopefully once he passed that point things would pick up a little. Noah pulled forward to inches and had to stop again. Just a little bit farther.

Daily Drabbles for 5/11/25 - 5/15/25
5/11/25 Peaches was a big fan of her namesake. In her mind they were the perfect fruit. Refreshing and sweet without being too sweet. And they were so versatile. There was no limit to the number of ways peaches could be served. Peaches liked nothing better than to bite into a fresh peach right off the tree. Or spread peach jam on her toast. Or have a piping hot serving of peach cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. There was just nothing else that could compare. Not to Peaches anyway. She would always be happy as long she had peaches.
5/12/25 Suzie rolled her eyes. Dylan was jumping around like a crazy person. He'd had too much sugar while he was out with his friends and was now insufferable to be around. They were walking home together through the woods, so at least there was no one around to see Dylan burning off all his extra energy. Suzie and her friends had managed to have a nice time together without ingesting insane amounts of sugar. Boys were so dumb. Suzie tried to ignore Dylan as they walked along. Besides her brother's dumb antics the forest was actually really nice that day.
5/13/25 Annie tried to smile politely while all the waiters grinned and clapped their hands sinisterly around her table. Across from Annie, Kevin was beaming excitedly at her. Annie tried not to grimace as the waiters all started singing to her. It wasn't Kevin's fault, not really, Annie should have warned him ahead of time. She hated when the waiters sang happy birthday. To anyone, honestly, but it was the worst when it was directed at her. For one thing she hated having all that attention on her, and for another thing there was just something deeply unsettling about their singing.
5/14/25 Herbert whistled softly. He heard a rustling in the woods to his right. Herbert whistled again, only louder this time. The rustling grew louder as something rushed through the forest towards him. Herbert waited patiently until Booster burst from the underbrush onto the trail in front of him. Booster was panting and covered in dirt and various plant matter. Herbert patted his legs with both hands and Booster ran up to him. Herbert scratched Booster's ears and patted his head. Booster wagged his tail and leaned into Herbert. Herbert gave Booster one last pat and then started down the trail.
5/15/25 Dread stomped his foot impatiently. Fury had monopolized all the crayons without even stopping to consider that Dread might want to use them. Dread liked to draw pictures too. And he was better at drawing than Fury because he was older. He had a whole year of extra practice on Fury. It was clear that Fury was jealous of Dread's skill. Why else would he go out of his way to draw pictures all the time? Dread liked to draw a normal amount. He also liked playing games. But Fury would rather practice his drawing than play with Dread sometimes.

Daily Drabbles for 5/6/25 - 5/10/25
5/6/25 They ended up going to the movies after all. There wasn't much else to do in the little town, and it was the best way they could come up with to pass the rest of the evening. It was better than sitting around in a cramped hotel room anyway. There weren't any movies playing that any of them were particularly interested in seeing, so they just went to the popular kid's movie. It was inoffensive enough that they could all sit through it the whole time without getting too bored. Though Moira did end up falling asleep towards the end.
5/7/25 Ben ran into the nearest house and immediately started ransacking it. He found a lot of potatoes, but no gold. Disappointing. He still needed fourteen more gold before he could upgrade his armor. There was no way he could fight the next boss without better defense stats. When Ben finished with the house he was in he ran to the one next door and began searching it. This house was also full of potatoes, but Ben also found three gold in a drawer. This was going to take a while. Maybe Ben could sell all the potatoes he'd been collecting.
5/8/25 Penny was bored. She went to see her friend Rainbow. Rainbow had been Penny's best friend for years. They always had a good time together. Rainbow was happy to see Penny when Penny came to visit. They decided to do something fun together. Rainbow wanted to bake cookies. Penny wanted to play catch. They couldn't pick which one to do, so in the end they did both! First they baked the cookies, and then they went outside and played catch in the yard. Penny had lots of fun with her friend Rainbow. She hoped that they would be friends forever.
5/9/25 Bob was concentrating harder than he ever had before in his life. He almost had a new high score on the game he was playing. It was one of those games where you're constantly running to the right and have to jump over obstacles as they pop up. Bob had been going for over ten minutes without dying. It wasn't the longest run he'd had before, but it soon would be. If he could just keep his focus on what he was doing. As soon as his mind started to wander he would be done for. He was so close.
5/10/25 Camilla tugged her sock back up over her ankle. It kept slipping down, which was not ideal since she was wearing the shoes that gave her terrible blisters on her ankles if she didn't wear socks with them. Camilla hardly ever wore them, but they were the only heels she owned that went with her black skirt. She had wanted to look extra nice for the party tonight. Or that's how she had felt earlier when she was getting ready. Now that she was actually at the party, Camilla was beginning to doubt that it was worth all the effort.

Daily Drabbles for 5/1/25 - 5/5/25
5/1/25 Donna needed a book on landscaping. As far as she could tell, however, the library didn't seem to have any. There were plenty of books on gardening. Whole shelves full of how to grow various types of plants is various types of circumstances and environments. There were four books on rock gardens. One hefty tome all about trees. But, to Donna's increasing frustration, she could find no books on landscaping in general. There had to be more that went into than just planting a couple flowers in the yard. Donna didn't know. That's why she wanted to get a book.
5/2/25 Jessica had been hoping to spend the weekend hanging out with her friends. They were all finally done with finals and had some free time before summer break started and everyone was off on some adventure or another. Jessica had like three different camps she would be going to over the next couple of months. Her best friend Kaya was going on a family vacation to Maine for three weeks in June. So Jessica really wanted to spend some time together while they still could. But now it was looking like her Dad had some other plans for the weekend.
5/3/25 Kris glanced up at the sky apprehensively. It was a beautiful blue with a handful of fluffy clouds floating across it. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and the trees had taken on a distinctly green fuzz where leaves were beginning to bud. It was a balmy 50 degrees and the days were only getting warmer. Kris didn't trust any of it. Just because there was no snow in the forecast didn't mean a freak storm couldn't still blow in and bury everything under a cold white blanket. It was too early to put away the snow blower.
5/4/25 Aunt Matilda had a cat problem. She had too many. She lived in a tiny two bedroom house on a tiny plot of land and had absolutely no room for the seven cats she owned. Now, seven wasn't the most cats a person could have, especially when it came to crazy cat ladies. There were much worse out there than Aunt Matilda. But in Aunt Matilda's case even seven cats was five cats too many. And honestly, two cats would have been pushing it. Doable, perhaps, but still pushing it considering her housing situation. Aunt Matilda had too many cats.
5/5/25 Dave ran down the pier as fast as he could and hurled himself into the water before he had a chance to change his mind. The water was frigid. Dave gasped in shock as he emerged from his dive. Dave released several high pitched yells as he desperately tread water trying to warm up. Supposedly he was supposed to acclimate to the temperature after a few minutes, but it still felt as cold as when he had first taken the plunge. Dave was not happy, but he wasn't about to give up yet. He beckoned for Jerry to join him.

Daily Drabbles for 4/26/25 - 4/30/25
4/26/25 Joy leaned back in his chair and sipped on his coconut drink. Sorrow was intently focused on getting a fire started. He was kneeling in the sand, bent over the fire pit and carefully rearranging the wood. Happiness was standing in the water with a drink of her own in her hand. The sun was setting and the stars were starting to come out. Joy took a deep breath of sea air. It had been a long time since he had felt this relaxed. The weather was nice, he was comfortably seated, and he was with his two favorite people.
4/27/25 Gerard had never seen a ghost before. Frankly, he had never even believed they existed until he actually saw one for himself. He still wasn't entirely sure that it was a ghost that he had seen, but Gerard had definitely seen something, and it had sure looked like a ghost. Maybe he was just going crazy. Cheyenne's friends had come over to investigate his claims. They didn't think he was crazy. They were, however, concerned he might have carbon monoxide poisoning. Gerard didn't think so, but it was a relief nonetheless that the ghost experts were looking at all possibilities.
4/28/25 Corbin had a lot of nerve coming into Jory's cubicle after the mess he made in the break room microwave. It was one thing to make a mess in a shared space and not clean up after yourself, but to do it with another man's lunch was a whole other level of poor manners. Jory frowned his grumpiest frown as he slowly spun around his chair to look Corbin directly in the eyes. Corbin could smile blandly and pretend he had no idea what Jory was upset about all he wanted. Jory knew. And Jory knew Corbin knew he knew.
4/29/25 Dogs were so cool. Rachel could never get enough of them. They came in so many different shapes and sizes and colors. And they could do so many different kinds of jobs. Truly, they were Man's best friend. Rachel couldn't imagine life without a dog. Having a little guy who lived in your house and was always happy to see you. Who wouldn't want that? Not Harvey apparently. He hated dogs. He thought they were dirty, and smelly, and too much trouble. Well, Rachel thought Harvey was too much trouble to keep dating. She would have to breakup with him.
4/30/25 Dora wanted some nachos. Dora did not want to make the nachos. She just wanted to have them. And eat them. Alas, there were no nachos in the house for Dora to eat. She would have to leave the house to get some nachos, or else just make them. Between the two options Dora hated leaving the house more so she resigned herself to making the nachos. It was a whole thing with trying to get the ratio of cheese to salsa to chips just right and then getting the cheese properly melted. But in the end Dora had nachos.

Daily Drabbles for 4/21/25 - 4/25/25
4/21/25 Jonathan sang along with the radio as he drove down the deserted country road. There was nothing but large open fields on either side of them. Leslie was leaned against the passenger side window with her eyes closed. She wasn't saying anything, but Jonathan had a feeling she wasn't asleep. He certainly wasn't being very quiet with his singing, and it was no smooth ride down the worn out dirt road they were on. Between all the bumps and his poor attempts to hit the high notes, Jonathan didn't think anyone could sleep. But Leslie sure seemed to be trying.
4/22/25 Georgia dug through her purse looking for a pen. She found three, but had no idea if any of them worked. Georgia set the pens on the counter and then returned to her purse, this time looking for a pad of paper. She found an old notepad with a phone number for a radon testing company printed across the bottom of it. Georgia scrawled little spirals on the pad with each of the pens. Two of them worked fine. The third was out of ink. Georgia grabbed one of the working pens and threw everything else back in her purse.
4/23/25 Jake swept the broom across the worn wooden floor. It always amazed him how much dirt piled up each day. People tracked it in all day and then he swept it back out just for it to get tracked back in again. It was a war that would never end. Well, as long as Jake kept sweeping. He could never defeat the dirt, but one day it would defeat him. The dirt would come for them all eventually. People would come and go, but dirt was forever. These were the kind of thoughts Jake had whenever he had to sweep.
4/24/25 Rae yawned and rolled over. She wasn't really feeling like getting up today. It wasn't like she had any pressing appointments to get to. Nothing that needed to be done immediately. If she really wanted, she could just stay in bed all day. Rae snuggled into her pillow and tugged her blanket more securely around her. Well, she probably wouldn't spend all day in bed. That would actually get boring eventually. But, Rae could manage another couple of hours easily enough. Rae sighed contentedly. Yeah, just a couple more hours of sleep. Then Rae would get up and do something.
4/25/25 Harry shuffled along through the house, sniffing intensely as he went. Someone was cooking something tasty. Going by the smell anyway. He wandered into the kitchen where the smell was the strongest. Which made sense when Harry thought about it. If someone was cooking something, of course they'd be doing it in the kitchen. Unless Eddie was grilling again. Harry glanced out the sliding glass door at the back patio. No, Eddie wasn't grilling right now. But he was standing at the stove, frying up something in a pan. Harry walked up to the stove. Eddie was cooking some bacon.

Daily Drabbles for 4/16/25 - 4/20/25
4/16/25 Mabel leaned back in the lawn chair and closed her eyes. There was still a bite of cold on the air, but the sun was nice and warm and the sky was free of clouds for once. Mabel planned to take full advantage of the sun for as long as it planned on sticking around. There was still too much of winter hanging around. They were unlikely to get a proper spring before summer finally arrived, and there was no telling when the summer would finally arrive. Or if it wouldn't bring more bad weather with it when it did.
4/17/25 Harper could smell burnt toast. Either he was having a stroke or Brook was trying to make breakfast again. She had been sneaky and waited till he was in the shower before she started. Now he was in a rush to finish dressing and get to the kitchen before she set it on fire. Something she'd actually managed to do once before. Harper grumbled as he hurriedly did up the buttons on his shirt. Now that he was paying attention he could hear Brook banging around in the kitchen. There was no telling what she was cooking up in there.
4/18/25 I should have gone to bed hours ago, but I just couldn't seem to stop myself from clicking on to the next chapter whenever I finished the one I was currently reading. They always ended on such cliffhangers. I had to know what happened next. There were far too many chapters in the fic for me to conceivably read them all in one sitting. I would have to stop eventually. I just had to find a good place to do it. And there was just too much crazy stuff going on in the story for me to stop reading yet.
4/19/25 There was too much chocolate in the house. It wasn't fair. What was Maddie supposed to do? Not indulge herself every time she passed by a bowl full of some chocolaty treat or another. And really, the cookies only lasted so long before they started to go stale. Maddie was doing her part in making sure they all got eaten while they were still good. It wasn't her fault that her dad had bought the big gallon of chocolate milk that expired in only a week. He never checked the expiration dates. Maddie had to have a glass every day.
4/20/25 Dana wanted to sing, really she did. It's just that her allergies were acting up and getting in the way. Someone in the room must have been wearing some heavy perfume or something because Dana's seasonal allergies hadn't hit yet. She knew they were coming, and there had been some days when she'd come back from a walk more stuffed up than she'd been when she'd left. But now, Dana couldn't help but cough every couple of minutes. Otherwise, she was fine. Her nose and throat were clear. She just couldn't stop herself from coughing. It was really annoying her.

Daily Drabbles for 4/11/25 - 4/15/25
4/11/25 Danny drummed his fingers on the counter as he stared up at the menu, even though he already knew what he wanted. He smiled at the teenaged girl standing at the register. She stared blandly back at him with all the indifference of a minimum wage employee who'd been at work far too long and was desperate for their shift to end. Danny ordered his usual and then got out of the way. He didn't have time for small talk anyway. As soon as his smoothie was ready, Danny grabbed it and was out the door and in the sun.
4/12/25 Arnold flipped on the lights and immediately regretted it. He threw a hand over his eyes and stumbled forward as he waited for them to adjust to the sudden brightness. He'd set out his clothes the night before so it was easy enough to throw them on while only peeking out between nearly closed eyelids. By the time he was pulling his socks on Arnold could open his eyes fully without wincing. Still, it was something of a relief when he opened his bedroom door and stepped out into the dark hallway. Arnold always hated getting up before the sunrise.
4/13/25 Ethan ran his hands through his hair. What was left of it anyway. The barber had cut it a little shorter than he was used to and he was still getting used to it. Ethan couldn't say he liked the look very much. His head never looked right when he cut his hair too short. He needed a little length and volume to look like a normal person with normal sized and shaped head. Fortunately, having too short hair was easily fixed. He just needed to wait for it to grow back. In the meantime though, he'd be wearing hats.
4/14/25 Cleo eyed the box sitting on the counter. There were only two doughnuts left and she'd already had four of the original dozen that were in there. She had no idea how many doughnuts William and Genny had had. At least six between the two of them. But they'd had as much time as Cleo to eat their fair share and Cleo had a feeling that at least one of them wasn't as enthusiastic about the pastries as she was. If only she could be sure though… Would they really mind if she had one more? Cleo needed to know.
4/15/25 Jenna dumped a cup full of ice cubes into the blender. There was still plenty of room so she added a few more ice cubes. Jenna picked up the cutting board and dumped all the strawberries she'd cut up into the blender with the ice. When she'd prepared the strawberries, she felt like she had a lot of them, but after adding them to the blender there didn't look to be as many as she thought. Jenna glanced around the kitchen. There was a banana that was starting to turn brown. Jenna peeled it and threw it in the blender.

Daily Drabbles for 4/6/25 - 4/10/25
4/6/25 John knew he ought to take a break. He had been playing video games all afternoon and his brain was starting to get a little fuzzy. John was having a hard time concentrating on the gameplay and thinking his way through the problems the game threw at him. He'd been stuck on what should have been an easy level for far too long. After dying for something like the hundredth time, John finally gave up and paused the game. He'd go have a sandwich and stare at something other than a screen for a change and see if that helped.
4/7/25 Vina leaned against the marble pillar and stared out across the city. The sun had dropped below the horizon and the sky to the west was a vibrant, warm pink. People were still out and about, though the foot traffic had considerably slowed down. Vina glanced over towards the front of the temple and was unsurprised to find Arsus also lounging against a pillar and staring out at the city. For as casual as he could be sometimes, Vina could hardly call him a slacker. After all, he was still on duty when his shift should have ended hours ago.
4/8/25 Lydia stepped out into the fine, overcast April afternoon. Green was beginning to creep back into the world. It was peeking out around the edges of the trees and lawns. The weather had been very pleasant the past few weeks, and Lydia was looking forward to a casual midday stroll. As she stepped off of her front porch she was blasted with a cold breeze, and as she wrapped her arms around herself for warmth, Lydia noticed tiny snowflakes gently wafting on the wind. It would seem that spring had not yet quite sprung. Lydia turned back for her coat.
4/9/25 Jack scooped up some snow in his bare hands and started packing it together. It was the perfect consistency for making snowballs with. Not too dry and powdery, not too melted and mushy. Just right. Jack quickly and deftly made an armful of the frozen projectiles before he slunk forward between the trees. The others had all kept moving, unaware that Jack had fallen behind. As soon as Jack caught back up with them he wasted no time in unleashing his arsenal on the four of them. Each snowball hit its intended target. Jack cackled as his friends all yelled.
4/10/25 Liz flipped over a card. Ten of spades. There wasn't anywhere she could use it, so she flipped over another card. Eight of hearts. That she could work with. She placed it on the nine of clubs and then she was able to move over the seven of clubs with the six of diamonds. Which meant she could flip over the card that had been under the seven. It was a four of spades. That didn't help her any. There was nowhere she could move it and no threes to place on it. Liz would have to draw another card.

Daily Drabbles for 4/1/25 - 4/5/25
4/1/25 Billie ran down the street. She had missed her bus already, but if she could get to the bus stop two blocks over before the next bus on that line left, then she might be able to make up some lost time. She was having trouble running in her heels, Billie knew she was going to have blisters from this. Billie reached the correct street just as the bus was pulling up to the stop. She picked up her pace and managed to make it onto the bus before the doors shut. Billie collapsed into a seat sighing in relief.
4/2/25 Jade took a deep breath as she held up the bowling ball, then she stepped forward and sent it rolling down the lane. It started off well, but the further along it went the more to the right it swerved until it finally rolled into the gutter right before it could hit any of the pins. Jade groaned in frustration and threw her head back. She had been getting gutter balls all night. Melody laughed at her as she stood up to take her turn. Jade stomped past without a word and slumped into her seat. Melody winked at her.
4/3/25 Chris sprayed the table and then quickly wiped it down before moving on to the next one. In a matter of minutes he had cleaned all the tables by the windows on the south side of the building. He went over the row again with a different towel, this time going over the chairs at each table. Then Chris switched back to the first towel as he sprayed and wiped the tables in the center of the dining area. That was his method, tables first, then go back for the chairs and benches. It just seemed the most efficient way.
4/4/25 Kelly glanced out the window at the sky. It was getting later in the evening but it was still light out. Kelly didn't need to close the blinds yet. It was surprising how fast the light had come back once they passed the spring equinox. The light had slowly been creeping back in leading up to spring, but now the days were longer than Kelly had seen in a long time. Winter always felt like it went on forever. It was a little disorienting how abruptly it had ended. Not that Kelly was complaining. She was eager for more sunlight.
4/5/25 Irma had a hankering for ice cream. They had run out weeks ago, but Irma kept forgetting to buy more whenever they went to the store. It hadn't been a problem yet. But now Irma really wanted some. She couldn't say why. It just sounded good to her. They had plenty of other goodies around the house, but Irma wasn't interested in any of them. She didn't want cookies, or candy, or even pudding. She was in the mood for ice cream and nothing else would satisfy her. Irma grabbed her car keys. Something needed to be done about this.
