I'm thinking Digital Monster: Net Driver might be a really good idea with terrible execution. No way do they actually expect you to either be incredibly lucky or spend a week doing doomed runs over and over to have enough special items to raise ONE normal adult Digimon. "It was hard in the original pets!" Only if you were a baby who didn't read the manual and thought you could go a day without feeding the thing lmao
It sucks, because the art is really cool and they put a LOT of thought into it! But I went into it super optimistic and gave it tons of chances while I figured things out for myself, and I'm realizing it just kinda doesn't work in its current state.

3:00 AM Venting
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, still homeless. Current job doesn't pay well, but it's something. Been trying really hard with my punctuality to not get fired because a minute late is late at this place. They're uhhhh...real sticklers...I'm on my last warning because NY transit is ass and Lyft drivers like to take scenic routes...
Anywho
I'm just going through the early year ruts that I always do, y'know?
Not closer to my goals. Not working as an illustrator/ animator/ whatever for a big fancy company.
It's weird. I'm away from my parents. That's good. I'm homeless, but currently have a roof over my head (thank you job money and cheap Airbnbs 👍🏾). That's good. Everything just still kinda...sucks?
I know you have a plan for your life when you're young, and things never turn out that way. I just... didn't expect them to go this south? I'm grateful for the good things but like...man lol
In regards to art I got a commission to finish that's taking forever because of this job. I doodle at work and people ask things like "why aren't you working at a studio!?" or something and tbh that question is starting to hurt lol
Would if I could, but I don't even know how to get there lol. I got tons of rejection letters like everyone else anyway lololol. Besides, at this point, if I did get my "dream job" I'd be so anxious I'd lose it in a second lol.
I'm not looking for sympathy or pity points. Honestly? I don't even know if I want to like...do art seriously anymore? I don't have time to do anything anyway. I don't want to quit. It's fun and I like it. Part of me is naive enough to think that one day something will come out of it.
Right now though, I just want to occasionally work on the Saint comic, sometimes draw things for people, and just draw a shit ton of Digimon for funsies
I'll probably change my mind, but I don't feel like I'm going to make an income off of this, and every time I think I could it just doesn't go so well.
Lol and I'm not a kiddo in college on the net anymore, and my time to build any following or whatever has passed. The Internet changed and all!
I don't know what I'm talking about anymore lol
I kinda just want to give up on making art a career thing for right now. Maybe just do this infrequently and accept this rut for what it is lol

Review: Digimon Adventure: (2020) Episode 25: Dive to the Next Ocean
Tumblr media
In this episode, everything is falling! Taichi and Yamato, Takeru, ElDoradimon, US-Iran relations, the quality of the series… everything’s just plummeting hard!
If we’re not getting the satisfying and earned win over Devimon that last time wasn’t, at least give us a breather. Since this endless stretch of high intensity started, we’ve been aching for one. Taichi and Yamato have become nonstop fighting machines, with no room to exhibit personality or even argue with each other on flimsy pretenses. Other than being controlled by angels, we don’t know anything about Takeru. The other four have spent the last three episodes doing literally nothing besides huddle under a gazebo in the park staring at a computer screen (Sora and Koshiro have spent five!). While the action has occasionally been good, it’s a terrible bit of entropy begging for some change now that Devimon has apparently bitten the dust. Well, there’s good news: instead of going from episodes with nothing but intense action where everything’s on the line, we get an episode of intense action where absolutely nothing is on the line.
At this point, Yamato’s resorted to mocking our request to slow down and prove this series has actual characters. As much as a break is called for, Yamato points out we’re not going to get one as half the continent breaks up and plummets to the ocean underneath it. So instead we… watch them plummet to the ocean underneath it. That’s the extent of the drama. Yamato even teases the biggest character driver available: Taichi and MetalGreymon going berserk last episode. But instead of mentioning it directly, he demurs when asked and bottles it up instead of letting us know what he actually thought about it and forcing Taichi to deal with the monster he became. That sort of reflection could and really should have been the focus of the entire episode. But no, instead they’re falling. Taichi’s bout of pinkeye absolutely must be addressed again in the future. With this series you can’t trust that it will.
Normally, the kids falling to their deaths would be something wrapped up in a matter of seconds. For a large enough drop, maybe a few minutes, plus a couple if Gomamon’s not around to make a fish raft. Trying to extend it to an entire episode is a stretch and it shows. The return of Leomon’s crew is appreciated, but the presence of three flying Peckmon to escort our heroes really should have been the end of that. But no… we have a swarm of Mamemon that is just kind of in the way, attacking everything just because they’re too close, a considerable step down from Devimon raising a cult thirsty for unchecked evolution. Since it was the only way to inject any sort of stake in this fight, Leomon and Patamon rush a sloppy backstory to convince us that saving ElDoradimon, the castle holder Taichi and Yamato barely acknowledged in his first appearances, is absolutely essential. Yamato clearly disagrees, but remains silent for fear that Taichi will tattle to Sora.
And so we spend the remainder of the episode trying very hard to pretend to care about ElDoradimon enough to accept Taichi and Yamato’s stunts to guide him to a safe landing, while also trying very hard to take the Mamemon seriously as a threat. At first, accomplishing the latter got a big assist with Agumon and Gabumon too tired to fight. This makes sense as they’ve been fighting at the Ultimate level, plus upgrades, for the last five episodes. The concept of Taichi and Yamato having to fend off the Mamemon and land their turtle safely without their Digimon works well enough in a filler sort of way. But no, they run into a corner where, in lieu of any good ideas, the only solution is screaming really loud and getting the evolutions we were told were unfeasible for the first two-thirds of the episode.
Back home… they’re still huddled under a gazebo in the park staring at a computer screen. They’re not even helping their Digimon fight anymore, only continuing to realize the tanker crisis wasn’t actually fixed (which we learned last episode) and that there’s an infestation of tiny Digimon in the relevant part of the network (which we also learned last episode, only the Algomon have quietly been replaced with Zurumon). Literally the only moment of personality from any of the four is Mimi coming across as an airhead. Big leap forward that is. Hikari joins them… but only because she too wants to huddle under the gazebo in the park. No personality from her either. The net result is the worst kind of filler episode, where not only does nothing of value get accomplished, we don’t even get any downtime to feel out these characters. Given how badly we need the latter, and how the action we got wasn’t a respite from anything, the episode feels like even more of a waste.
My Grade: D+
Loose Data:
So these tanker collisions are causing the US and Iran to jump to conclusions and strain their relations. Obviously not unrealistic, but bold of them to assume US-Iran relations could get worse. Since you know the show doesn’t have the stones to actually introduce a military conflict between the two, this is such a transparently empty way of pretending to raise the stakes on the tanker crisis.
The military alphabet of the scrambling jets spells out “TOEI08.” The Toei part’s obvious. The 08 perhaps refers to this being the eighth Digimon TV series.
Cloud Continent floating in the sky is about as subtle as the wall of fire in the original Adventure. But the kids also had to travel across the sea to Cloud Continent. Was that landmass also floating up there, even though it wasn’t “Cloud” anything?
All that drama over falling into the ocean and you just know DarkKnightmon’s going to be waiting for them wherever they end up.

Appmon Ep45 Liveblog
Just like normal, the Appmon are wandering around and doing application things — wait, is that a Digimon? It’s Agumon?! And it looks like Agumon is... committing crimes?!?
Tumblr media
Watson is back to suffering to let the group know what the problem of the day is. he was only allowed one episode of reprieve.
Haru must have a will of steel to barely react when Gatchmon starts guffawing next to his ear over HaruHaru Man
it’s still really debatable if naming the place in the Deep Web ‘Cyber Kowloon’ was a Cyber Sleuth reference or not, but I’d say with almost total certainty that the App Drivers visiting Nakano Broadway to go and confront a Digimon that is from a video game is supposed to be a reference to the game.
also, everyone but Haru has been swarmed by fans because the the group went to Nakano Broadway
*joking voice* wow Haru is really OP, he’s got both a buddy and a partner now
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ok this is more of a personal point of interest than anything but I love & find fascinating how this episode treats the bond between players and video game characters & makes out like video game characters do remember and cherish the time they spent with their specific players... it’s a concept I have been absolutely fascinated by ever since I was a little kid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
seeing Agumon and Gatchmon sit next to each other is really interesting because it makes it really easy to compare how different each series’ design philosophies were. Agumon’s design is rather simple — a plain, dinosaur-like body with an almost entirely yellow color scheme. Most other child-stage Digimon, especially those from early series, have similarly simple designs due to the fact that they all started out as v-pets. since the sprites on the Digimon v-pets are so small, they had to create simple but easily recognizable designs (and, in my opinion, they were very successful. I keep being plesantly surprised by how simple yet cute and easily identifiable all the sprites are on the v-pet). meanwhile, Gatchmon & all the other Appmon did not have these limitations. to that point, all Appmon designs are really complicated and busy — Gatchmon alone has like 5 colors with lots of little details. so, due to the different circomstances and what each ‘mon was being designed for, they’re both very visually distinct.
when Agumon notices Globemon & says how cool they are, Haru is looking at Globemon with like. such a proud look in his eyes.
Tumblr media
really cute that Agumon’s evolution is sparked by holding hands with Haru
Wargreymon looks super, super cool in Appmon’s CG style. but also, is Wargreymon just... not wearing pants? underwear but no pants? why does wargreymon even need underwear
Tumblr media
time for a cross-generational boss rush beat-up! this is really just nostalgia pandering, but it’s the sort of fight that goes over the top with Being Cool so it’s really fun to watch!
Uratekumon looks like such a little gremlin
so on top of there being a world of the net, there’s also a separate world (worlds?) where video game characters live? also, since Digimon are a franchise in-universe, I wonder if they served as inspiration when Minerva made the Appmon?
Tumblr media
as far as days go, this was actually, like, a really good day for the App Drivers. everyone who stayed behind at Nakano Broadway seemed to have a good time, and Haru had the time of his life hanging out with Agumon!
Haru got to hang out with Agumon all day! As for Bootmon... Well, finding Bootmon quickly isn’t that big of a deal, right?

Appmon Ep9 Liveblog
After collecting all seven Appmon Badges, our heroes can finally enter the prestigious Appmon League! There, they’ll battle new foes and old rivals alike as they compete to be crowned the region’s Appmon League Champion!
Tumblr media
There’s not going to be a lot of commentary on this episode because it’s pretty much just a goofy silly one, but do know that as I watch the episode I am continuously going “hee-hee hoo-hoo look at all the appmon run around and do funny things :)”
oh I had been trying to remember what the hamster was named. it’s Tutomon!
in general I’m not a fan of shows where the protagonists just gather up monsters but then don’t actually use them or get to know them, but it’s a little better when I know that the ill-used monsters at least get to hang out in an environment. so I was glad to find out that the appmon band is also a little appmon house when I first watched this episode, lol
Tumblr media
so based on Gatchmon and Navimon’s conversation... there is a designated “leader” of the fusion? which is probably why I had figured that was the case before. app fusion is so confusing, but I really like to understand the logistics of these sorts of things...!
*points at dokamon* you are babey
Tumblr media
so what would they have done for this section of the competition if the app drivers hadn’t come along...?
big ol’ infodump about what the deal with Leviathan is. having Tutomon explain all that serious stuff in that neutral, slightly condescending tone of a preschool edutainment toy works really well. it’s like a good juxtaposition. the soft-reveal that Appmon are AI is kinda one of those things where you were vaguely aware that that must be how it is, but when it’s explicitly said you’re like “oh yeah... they are AI, aren’t they?”
oh i just remembered something that this episode made me think of the first time I watched it. in a lot of ways, App Link and App Fusion are way-more refined versions of the fusion/xros seen in Digimon Xros Wars (which I saw the dub of, Digimon Fusion). when compared to xros wars, it’s nice because it allows for the ‘mon to still fuse into cooler and stronger forms, but makes it a lot less cluttered by limiting fusions to only a few pairs. then, app link takes the place of the random one-off fusions that were in xros wars.
Tumblr media
all for the sake of Eri’s adoration
and then Hackmon mugs the competition. the end. ...to have a hacking ability in a completely digital world... it’s OP, but also frightening in a way? like when you look at it from an in-show perspective. with enough time and effort (and by recieving hacking instructions from Rei), Hackmon could theoretically alter just about anything about other Appmon or about the AR field and the sea of the net.
