last year at one point i got bombarded by cartoon horror aus on insta. all of them had these kinda analog horror type imagery n i kinda got inspired by them.
ig this is like a horror!vee. instead of being kinda goofily unpredictable they're more scary n offputting.
i miiiight be making a two page comic about this au (featuring a very unfortunate horror!fix) for a zine. i have other ideas for it too but you never know...
alternative color palettes under the cut

obviously there are plenty of good looking anime before and after that period but i'm not crazy about the general sensibility of modern post-digipaint stuff. if i like the look of a more contemporary anime it's purely on its own merits rather than being able to generalise that to e.g. "late 2010s anime looks good"

i feel like this but coming out of 3 hours of doing research on Space Ghost Coast to Coast just to help explain to someone how I tell the difference between the old animation and the new animation.

Thank you, Akira Toriyama!
Thank you for making my childhood, sensei.
I may have never known you personally but I can undoubtedly say, that you've shaped an entire generation with your work. I am forever grateful for being introduced to a universe where people can fly, dragons grant wishes, and even for a little while, forget how ruthless the real world can be.
One of the core memories from my childhood is raising my hands in front of the TV to "help" Goku save the world and I'll never forget the fun I had.
You gave us a gift that will keep on giving even after you're gone. I'm glad to have received this gift.
From the bottom of heart, please rest in power.
Otsukaresama deshita.

Wait actually yeah why did the 80s-90s anime lose that style, like commercialism or?
it was a bit down to trends changing with time, a bit down to discolouration in physical cels, a bit down to technological advancement moving to digipaint, and a bit down to consistency
at the end of the day, it can mostly be summed up as "it was also very homogenous back then, it just feels refreshing because we're in a different stylistic wave with different artists now and the grass is always greener on the other side"
