i don’t think anyone believes your brain is literally atrophying so much as finding it a cause for concern that llm usage provides an easy alternative to independent thought. i find this post so insincere.

it is also a little absurd to invoke roko’s basilisk as a means of discrediting discomfort with the rapid encroachment of “artificial intelligence” into day to day life when its increasing presence in our culture is entirely motivated and funded by people who have bought into the concept.

#i have a perhaps too idealistic idea surrounding all this but it just feels so much like surrendering to me #obviously it is not essential to your humanity to write ten emails a day about meetings and schedules and tasks but i find it all so #distasteful and isolating and distancing. there remains some level of human connection and presence even in the stupidest most tedious #moments of public service work. it’s unfortunate that our working culture is so draining that the ai usage becomes a coping strategy for #all of the built up monotony but it just makes it all worse. at least in the context of writing and communication i fail to see any true #value in it. and the origins of it in every instance i’m aware of being tied to the most disgusting immoral #men doesn’t sway me any further into thinking it is at all worthwhile to defend it #or to decry anyone who says it makes them uncomfortable. i think it really fucking should make us uncomfortable and we should be stopping #to consider who it is that we’re really advocating for when we paint ai critique as entirely #naive and what those people’s goals are for humanity and for the earth.
