A post about how Ridley/Hayate/Ryu express jealousy/protectiveness over their significant others being flirted with by strangers + how they react when someone tries to flirt with them :]
shout out to @cultstatus! He helped to affirm my odd idea of Ridley’s having a complicated relationship with jealousy, in that she feels the need to express it even if she herself is not feeling jealous.
no real warnings other than maybe some mentions of strangers who unfortunately don’t take “no” as an answer, or ignore it when someone/multiple people let you know that: “I’m/we're in a committed relationship”. Slight mention of possessiveness/protectiveness regarding Ryu and Hayate. It’s nothing too bad, just them being a little protective when people are flirting with their partners who are visibly uncomfortable + may threaten to use violence when advances persist even after saying “no” repeatedly.
despite all the personal growth Ridley Rosé goes through in trying to rediscover herself as person and in trying to keep her real and pro-wrestling persona separate from each other, she’s unfortunately holding onto slightly old fashioned ideas of kayfabe. Case in point, if in a public setting - where she’s easily recognised, and sees a stranger is trying to flirt with Hayate and/or Ryu (when it becomes a polyship), she feels the need to play into her wrestling persona to scare said stranger off, because she feels if she didn’t do so she wouldn’t be taken seriously as a performer. That she’d be viewed as a hack or fraud, or not ‘taking her job seriously’. Even though in many of these instances, she actually isn’t feeling jealous at all, and knows that her significant other’s can handle themselves pretty well, as it’s just outright notoriously hard to flirt with them. Anyways, in situations like this, she would either slide an arm over their furthest shoulder, sit on the lap of one of her partners and playfully give both partners a brief peck on the cheek, or walk up behind and wrap her arms around her partner's neck.
In a more quieter setting, albeit still a public one, but one where she isn’t as well recognised, gives Ridley a lot of relief in knowing she doesn’t have to put on her wrestling persona. She’s able to relax and actually be her real self. She’s doesn’t have to fake it. If a stranger in this setting tries to flirt with her significant others, she’s much more polite and less confrontational about it, she lets them know “sorry they’re taken”. She doesn’t want to humiliate the other person, more so let them down gently for thinking they had a chance with Hayate and/or Ryu. Ditto goes for when people flirt with HER, and not her partners, and in those instances she’s kinda forced to be her Pro-Wrestling persona again to make them back off. And this goes for both a quiet public setting and a loud one.
uh. Hayate is… definitely capable of expressing jealously, however it is usually pretty dependent on how the stranger is flirting with their significant others. If it’s someone who’s very polite about flirting with Ridley or Ryu - Hayate just leaves it be, as they have full faith in their partner’s handling the situation themselves. However if the stranger’s intention is more aggressive in their flirting or just their presence makes Ryu and/or Ridley uncomfortable, Hayate will step in, playfully greet Ridley and/or Ryu with a brief moment of PDA, and then turn their attention to the stranger and in a fake, oblivious tone asks them: “Oh, I’m sorry was I interrupting your conversation?” They would have a fake smile and all and basically would do anything to piss off the stranger. If it’s not enough, Hayate will be a tad bit possessive/protective of her partners by leaning much more into said PDA. When people flirt with Hayate, she does string them along/humour them for a bit but then eventually lets them down gently into thinking they had a chance with xem. She would definitely say something along the lines of “I’m sorry but I’m just not into you.”
Ryu Hayabusa is a rational man with a consistent poker face, meaning it’s very hard to get him to express any other emotion aside from his default stoicism. That said there is a TINY jealous bone in his body, but he isn't the kind to express that jealously through actions all that much. He's more direct with his words, and certainly isn't afraid to speak his mind. Despite this, he is ultimately self-disciplined enough to shrug off innocuous instances of people flirting with his partners, especially if its playful flirting that doesn't go anywhere or the stranger eventually realises that the people they're flirting with are already in a committed relationship. To him there's no need to exert his energy over something so petty. He will however step in the moment he feels a stranger's flirting attempts start to either become uncomfortable for his partners or just in general are acting/behaving in a way that raises red flags. When Ryu steps in, he does for a moment use his physique to intimidate the stranger into backing off from their attempts of flirting. Depending if the stranger is trying to flirt with just Ridley or Hayate, Ryu would interrupt and say something along the lines of: "Did your parents ever tell you to not steal from a dragon? Because right now I do not take your efforts trying to pick up my partner/girlfriend lightly." <- This is one example, just note that Ryu often weaves metaphors, hypotheticals and hyperbole into his warnings/general speech. If it was someone trying to pick up both Hayate and Ridley, Ryu would say something along the lines of: "I know you're looking for a good time, but this coterie is not open to, and is not in anyway looking for additional members." When people are flirting with him, he just outright says “I’m in a committed and closed relationship with my partners, so no thanks, you’re wasting your time trying to flirt with me.”
If the stranger flirting with Ryu or Hayate is still insistent/they become more aggressive and their precious attempts to ward off their advances are ignored, the Shinobi do resort to the last drastic measure by physically threatening to resort to violence. This can be simple as pressing a kunai at the stranger’s neck where a vital artery might be, or worse will draw their sword (Jinramaru for Hayate, the Dragon Sword for Ryu) and also press it against the stranger’s throat with intent to cause harm. Ryu Hayabusa and Hayate when pushed do not HESITATE to take a life, and yeah sure this may be against a regular civilian but at that point the person has essentially fucked around and found out. Similar situation can be applied to if Ridley is having a hard time trying to ward off advances, and if Hayate or Ryu are in the same room, they will follow through with the same behaviours.
If Ridley is in a situation where her partners aren’t physically present in the area, she has three options: If amongst the presence of other Pro-Wrestlers, or even better FANS who respect her, she’s going to go to them immediately and mingle amongst them to protect herself. Pro-Wrestlers with a spine will indeed be enough to scare off the stranger’s pursuit of Ridley, I mean. No one wants to go up against multiple pro-wrestlers - like you have to admit defeat at that point. Fans would absolutely annoy the shit out of the stranger, mostly by either having Ridley’s full attention by asking for autographs and photos or try scaring the stranger off like they’re paparazzi. Alternatively If she doesn’t have community to surround herself with physically, does have Helena Douglas on speed dial and can inform her of the situation and she can use her privilege to threaten a hefty lawsuit. That’s usually enough to shut them up. Lastly, she has Pro-wrestling techniques which are no joke. She can absolutely put them in an extremely stressful submission hold that can make the stranger become so exhausted that they have no choice put to give up their advances. Sure Pro-Wrestling is fake, but those pro-wrestling moves ARE NO JOKE.
anyways. Sorry for this being a long post that got. out of hand so suddenly. I’ve been thinking about this for a while and well wanted to piece some small characterisation stuff for my polyselfship with Ryu and Hayate. Hope you had fun reading it as I did writing it up :3

me rambling about some character interactions (honestly its really just Hayate/Ridley/Ryu, and some additional Ayane characterisation??) that occur right after the events of DOA5. uh. DOA5 and slight Ninja Gaiden 3 spoilers, but also a VERY LONG post!
thinking about a moment that’s set immediately after the events of DOA5, where Hayate makes a quick detour to Ridley’s apartment only to find Ridley in an emotional wreck because she’s been listening/watching the news reporting of a DOATEC facility (that Hayate, Ayane, Ryu, Kasumi and others were on) that had blown up not too long ago - and that Ridley has been dreading the absolute worse case scenario that none of the Shinobi made it out alive. She was informed before hand by Helena of what was planned, and that she'd promise to ensure the Shinobi would be fine, although after that platform collapsed, she has to do DOATEC's PR/Damage control and hide/lie to the public what actually occurred on that platform facility.
(What occurred on that DOATEC facility out in the ocean is that it doubled as a facility that harbored MULTIPLE Kasumi clones, and the Mugen Tenshin Siblings + Ryu got a little more than they bargained for, as the Kasumi Clones have reached their 'final' phase as being walking shapeshifting weapons of mass destruction that can also mimic abilities off the fly. and one of the clones copied Ryu's form and tried to do a dangerous technique of his, and the real Ryu had to respond quickly by doing the same thing and uh. it leads to facility going kaboom and everything collapsing. If you don’t believe me you can just watch this video. Obligatory DOA5 spoilers.)
There would be a moment where Hayate and Ridley are just standing in the middle of her apartment, embracing each other and Hayate profusely apologising to Ridley for causing any distress. "I’m sorry for making you worried, it was never my intention to do so. It was going all according to our plan but it went south so quickly, and I was powerless to stop it."
Ayane would eventually enter the apartment herself, because she would get really antsy about getting back home after the events of the day. However the moment she lands on the apartment’s balcony and enters, she immediately regrets her actions as she almost interrupts her sibling and Ridley’s intimate moment (even though it’s literally just two people hugging). Just as she’s about to turn tail and head back outside, she’s halted in her tracks when Ridley just barely croaks out a "thank you," to her for “having Hayate’s back,” and even adding on a “I’m glad you’re okay too...”
And Ayane is in complete shock and disbelief to hear this from Ridley, a person she has resented for so long for ‘taking her sibling away from her'. Only recently she has started to soften that stance over time after witnessing first hand Hayate’s and Ridley’s affection for one another. So hearing those words do disarm arm her slightly, like just enough to leave a tiny crack in the cold exterior she has but not enough to break it entirely. That said, in this moment Ayane would be caught off guard to just see Ridley in such an emotional state, and for a brief moment she feels her heart sink a little, and she doesn't know why (it's a ‘I don’t want to see my sibling’s precious person be in such distress’, but Ayane doesn't know it yet.) To get her bearings she sits on one of the couches, and does her very best to not tear up at Ridley’s sincere words.
Lastly Ryu enters the apartment, and I think a little before hand, Ryu would recognise that what has occurred in the last few hours have been exhausting, so he's open to Hayate's suggestion of a detour to Ridley's apartment for a brief rest stop. He would also acknowledge that there's no way that Helena Douglas and DOATEC in general can just hand wave away what's happened, and that there's absolutely a high chance the news would cover this incident, albeit they news would never know the true story. Ryu would reason that just telling Ridley in person that he's okay is a genuinely overall, good idea.
Winding down would also allow the Shinobi to fully process and comprehend the events of what happened at the facility, and relay more accurate (and critical) personal accounts of what occurred at the facility to their respective clans.
When Ridley finally pulls herself together, she does her best to make the Shinobi trio at home.
Uh during this down time, Ridley actually sees Ryu’s face for the first time and the interaction itself is highlighted in this post! There would be a lot more exchanges between these characters, although I'm not super sure how they would unfold right now, but there is a follow up exchange between Ryu and Ridley again, where he takes her aside and privately thanks her for being there for Hayate, when Ryu himself couldn’t (be it preoccupied with clan duties, the occasional demon fiend troubles or artificial gods etc.). Additionally I think in this moment Ryu, in a semi-tired state does confess to Ridley his feelings for her (albeit in vague terms) + mentions that since she's Hayate's special person, that by proxy, she's also special to him. He’s had these feelings lingering around for a while (since DOA4/Ninja Gaiden II) but he never really fully accepted them until the events of Ninja Gaiden 3, where Ridley makes a surprise appearance and punches the daylight out of a mutated Cliff.
Again, as previously mentioned, these feelings for the pro-wrestler is partly due to how genuinely supportive she's been to Hayate and Ryu holds those in high regard who are willing to lend a shoulder for others to lean on. I am aware its not exactly a sound justification for what will eventually turn into a polyship, but within the lore of DOA and Ninja Gaiden there's only so much I can work with, so cut me a little bit of slack. (also the connected timeline is kind of a mess... i have no clue when NG3 takes place tbh.)
I guess I should stress that Ryu does not envy Hayate and Ridley's relationship or closeness, I feel like Ryu is more rational in his emotions and doesn't let petty things bother him. like you'd have to try VERY hard to get him to be jealous.
ANYWAYS, back to the confession, I’m not sure if Hayate should walk in on the conversation or happen to overhear or, or have Ayane snitch on Ryu (would be an insanely funny idea, but it would be OOC as she deeply respects and holds Ryu in high regard). Whatever choice I go with, Hayate would be hurt to know that her relationship with Ryu wasn’t 'strong enough' for her life partner to feel comfortable in telling her that he had romantic feelings for her girlfriend. Ryu would justify the decision to not divulge these feelings to them as: “I wanted to prioritise your well-being first,” and that “I wanted to ensure that I could provide cover for you if any Mugen Tenshin Clan Elder asked me where you’ve gone. I don’t want you to be exiled or hunted down all your life like your sister, all because you’re seeing a person who isn’t from a Ninja Clan.” Hayate would feel very tired and defeated by that last justification, and even as Clan Leader, she knows she’ll have to answer a lot of questions if she dared tried to change that policy/rule (traditional can suck sometimes).
A few hours before the Shinobi trio leave Ridley’s apartment, Hayate would present the question to Ridley if it was alright to open up the relationship to include Ryu. Ridley doesn’t mind this, although she’s very confused on how Ryu has gained feelings for her. She literally says: “I’m not that special.” It would take a bit for her come around to develop her own feelings for Ryu, she IS attracted to him after seeing what’s under that mask, it’s just the development of romance between the two will take some time, but she’s open to trying :3
uuhhhhhh god this post is so long so I'll end it off here. there's nothing more to add atm other than Ayane being the obligatory fourth wheel to all of this unfolding before her eyes (much to her annoyance).

hilariously thinking about a what if situation where Ridley Rosé was one of the ‘Heroes’ called forth for the narrative of Warriors All-Stars, and she meets Nyobunaga Oda - who is. A cat. And her reaction would be. VERY colourful.
“Here I am meeting the almighty and controversial Oda Nobunaga IN PERSON, which for all intents and purposes would be an historian’s dream to talk to such a historical figure.”
“and you mean to tell me he’s a FUCKING CAT?!”
“That’s Oda Nobunyaga to YOU!”
“Your name is literally a goddamn cat pun of a real guy’s name, I’m not ever going to take you seriously.”

I don’t know how ‘canon’ Warriors All-Stars is to any of the respective franchises that are involved in that game. But I think making it canon to DOA and Ninja Gaiden gives me the perfect opportunity to try and built up the relationship between Ridley Rosé and Ryu, because the game’s central mechanic is a relationship/social link system, which helps aid in battle. Although the system is mostly used in a platonic way, I can see a potential exception to make it more romantically aligned for these two specifically.
uhhh.... no real warnings other than. unfortunately this is a musou game and it's got a military structure to it which glosses over a lot of horrors of war. so. you know. keep that in mind.
Obviously the elephant in the room is that Hayate isn’t there but they would be constantly on Ryu’s and Ridley’s minds a lot. The real focus though would definitely be a sort of personal character arc for Ridley in that she feels inadequate to help, and struggles to ‘fit in’ amongst the other heroes that have been summoned, because... She’s a pro-wrestler and she’s surrounded by folks who can use magic, alchemy, people who have actual weapons like swords, (magical) firearms, spears, axes, etc etc. these are accomplished, gifted or even historical people.
Like she believes can’t hold a candle against them (she can hold her own actually, but her self doubt is so intense that it’s unfortunately made Ridley regress back into her pre-DOA1 self. The pro-wrestler with a chip on in her shoulder. The one that lashed out and went off script against a former co-worker.)
Ryu realises that Ridley’s deteriorating mental health is quite similar to his own after being successful in his quest of revenge against Doku and the Dark Dragon, and in that time Hayate was the one to provide a lot of emotional support and comfort. Since Ridley was the one that provided Hayate with emotional support (when they were at their lowest point), he realises it’s his turn to give someone else the support they need, in this case Ridley. In a way it’s kinda paying it forward: Hayate supporting Ryu, Ridley supporting Hayate, Ryu supporting Ridley etc.
I should mention that Ryu would definitely be concerned for Hayate’s well-being back home, considering Ridley has been a pretty significant anchor in xeir life. So there’s a genuine fear of Hayate’s mental well-being backsliding into a more stressed emotional state. It is a bit of a conversation/post on its own but know that when Ridley and Ryu return home (plus the others like Ayane & Kasumi), that Hayate temporarily becomes a little clingy regarding both her lovers when she gets to see them and spend time together. (It’s discussed a little later in this post but this post is so long, that I might need to make its own more detailed post about Hayate’s temporarily clingy phase).
Back to Warriors All-Stars, there would be a specific scene in the bathhouse where Ridley is alone having a bit of an internal meltdown, and it’s Ryu who pulls her out of her mental spiral. This... does mean he joins her but all he really does is give her a firm hug (and just provides general physical intimacy) and just lets her know that it’s okay that she has these tumultuous feelings, additionally reassuring her that her place on the group is still vital. That even if Ridley isn’t on or with the rest of them powerhouse wise, they still need her, especially in vital instances of helping transportation of supplies between bases, protecting the messenger + general military intel from being attacked by opposing forces.
This comfort and just general physical intimacy helps calm Ridley down and she kinda clings to Ryu like a koala and confesses all of her fears and anxieties of being stuck in a world that she’s unfamiliar with. Of how she wants to go home, she wants to go back to work - she misses her parents, her co-workers, her friends, Hayate, Tina, Helena and all the other DOA contestants she’s formed a bond with up to that point. Ryu responds in tow by whispering: "I promise you, after all of this, I will take you home. Be it a place or person, I will take you wherever you want in the world that you call 'home'." He also initiates a chaste kiss, which is very brief because while at that point he does have feelings for Ridley, he is aware that Ridley is taking some time to reciprocate those feelings, an so her response to such a kiss won't be as strong or intense as his. But he does get pleasantly surprised when Ridley says "'It's okay, you can kiss me for a little longer if you'd like." Honestly it’s just them giving lazy, gentle kisses to each other, until Ridley feels comfortable leaving the bathhouse.
uh. When they exit the bathhouse they kinda have no choice but to exit together and when some of the anthro-wolf folk who are taking care of the place see this, they are threatened or bribed to keep quiet about it. Any Hero (minus Ayane) that sees them exit together are more inclined to go ‘OH, I had no idea you’re both an item,” because they didn’t expect a Ninja to hook up with a woman who’s fists and submission holds mostly do the talking.)
After this Ridley's demeanor and attitude is less hostile, and she starts to socialise a lot more with her fellow heroes and companions at base, and at a point eventually feels comfortable being open about her feelings. Heroes that she interacts a lot with are William, Millennia, Yukimaru, Mitsunari and Naotora Ii (although Naotora may have a crush on Ridley?? But more so in a ‘I hope I can find someone like her from my own world to spend the rest of my life with’. idk man Naotora is so cute.)
uhh... when peace is restored back to this universe, happy ending achieved, they heroes are able to go home back to their respective universes. yadda yadda. Upon stepping back into their reality, they do go home, although Ridley makes the decision to return to her wrestling community, because she technically did go missing while at work when she was summoned into the other world. And also she doesn’t want her relationship with Ryu and Hayate to be exposed to their respective clans and have them be punished for mingling with a non-shinobi outsider.
Hayate's first reaction upon seeing Ryu, Ayane and hearing of Kasumi's return too (she is still a rouge shinobi - and thus goes back to the place where she has sanctuary) is to breathe a sigh of relief that they're all okay. But they notice Ridley isn’t there and just as he’s about to raise xeir concerns, Ryu takes them aside to a more private isolated space for them to talk, and goes on to explain everything regarding Ridley and their well-being to their life partner. After Ryu divulges all this information, Hayate takes a moment to soak it all in, after in which they pull them close for an embrace and whispers a “Thank you” to him, which is mostly in regards to being grateful of Ryu staying by Ridley’s side during her more emotional moments when she needed them. There are some nuances I’m skipping over but for the most part it’s important to point out that it’s very emotional for Hayate to see those they care about return back home.
Uhhh obligatory fluff ending where a few days later, Ryu and Hayate duck out from their villages, under the guise of ‘sparring’ (only partially true), and instead make way for Ridley’s apartment, just spend as much time with each other as possible. In this moment in time specifically, Hayate is little clingier around Ridley (understandably), but not that she or Ryu mind. Honestly not much happens it’s really just the three of them enjoying each other’s company. I will note at some point Ridley does kiss Ryu, as at this point she’s starting to develop proper feelings for him, and thanks him for keeping his promise of bringing her home.

Having my DOA self ship start as a monogamous relationship, to evolving into a polyamorous one was NOT on my bingo card this year, but I wouldn’t change it for the world 💕 [picrew] [Template Here]
Uhhh some extra notes that add a bit more nuance to this polyselfship:
Technically the role of ‘big spoon, little spoon’ are very interchangeable depending on what the trio’s moods are. there might be days where Hayate and Ridley are the big spoon and Ryu’s the little spoon, sometimes it’s Ridley as the little spoon and the two Shinobi are the big spoons. you get the picture.
Ryu doesn’t really see the use in pet names so to speak… at least not in public. it’s not that pet names for Hayate and Ridley don’t exist, he just uses them in a more private settings.
Ryu and Hayate definitely have shared and individual pet names for Ridley that’s in their native languages and dialects.
Ridley does call them both “a runsearc”, an Irish term of romantic endearment.
Hayate and Ryu have never been super comfortable displaying PDA with Ridley only because they’re worried about her safety. Yes, she’s capable of protecting herself, but when rival ninja clans that have centuries old grudges they can’t let go of, and a vile corporation with power and money, you start to be weary of your enemies using your loved ones against you.
It’s even more of a worry when the shinobi’s worst enemy, Victor Donovan - a mad scientist, has a very weird and extremely uncomfortable obsession with making women part of his science experiments. So of course they’re going to do their best to minimize as much PDA as possible, so she doesn't become a target. (It’s not that they don’t occur it’s just that it’s EXTREMELY BRIEF blink-and -you-miss it)
Definitely a closed Polyamorous relationship. For now at least. It did used to be an open one (at least between Hayate and Ryu), but due to the events of the early DOA games impacting their QP relationship in a major way - Hayate was in a coma long before the events of DOA1 and a little after, and even then in DOA2 he was kidnapped (while unconscious!), experimented on without consent and had amnesia.
Best way to put it is, the shinobi's relationship was... idk how to say, paused? They do care about each other but Ryu understands that Hayate just needs some time to build themselves back up again after experiencing such traumatic events. It's why Ryu is okay with Hayate falling for Ridley,
Additionally to the previous point, this is Ridley Rosé’s “first” romantic relationship, (or depending on how you read it, it’s her “second” relationship, as it was just her and Hayate, only for the relationship to later involve Ryu). She’s anxious, and extremely unfamiliar with this type of relationship, henceforth the main reason why it was closed.
Hayate and Ryu understand Ridley’s anxieties, although admittedly they are both just as new to this just as Ridley is. They've never been in a situation where they shared romantic affection for the same person. So they’re just as in the dark as she is. Thankfully, due to their existing bond with each other (being in a QP relationship), any tension or friction arising between the two is very minimal, and don't get jealous of each other.
That said, it doesn’t get rid of their playful competitiveness to get Ridley’s affection, but they’re not actively antagonising each other.
Did somebody say… jealousy headcanons? Cause I have some :3
Ridley is technically capable of cooking it’s just pretty average quality wise. She can only really do basic meals. She won’t burn the house, that's for sure. More complicated meals will usually fall into being under-cooked or overcooked.
When they spar with each other it is certainly is quite a gauntlet for the trio to mutually put each other through. Ryu and Hayate do hold back unleashing their full power, but they are not by any means easy on Ridley. It’s more than an exercise to help her keep on toes and her wits together if by any stretch of chance a rival ninja clan went after her.
Technically the ‘lending clothes thing’ is interchangeable but it’s that Hayate often finds xemself borrowing their partner’s clothes a lot more often.
Hayate’s protectiveness comes from the fact they know both of their partners have some sort of occupation that tires them out. Sure killing and slaying fiends (and archfiends) is a walk in the park for Ryu, however there’s no doubt that his green eyes have a tiredness to them. Hayate does fear Ryu burning himself out, and worse just not returning home from impossible odds. His life partner might be the master ninja of his generation, but he is still ultimately mortal.
Her protectiveness over Ridley is a more… visible case. Ridley is a Pro-Wrestler, an outsider working in a Japanese Wrestling Promotion that rivals D.W.A, and its a rare breed: it's a unionised promotion. So there are protections in place and health screenings Ridley needs to abide by. But it doesn’t hurt any less seeing Ridley put her body on the line to create a form of art that people seem to enjoy.

Some Hayate/Ridley Self Ship Notes that are lore relevant + are part one of (insert number of) posts that are still Stuck in the drafts. dear god. I’m so sorry it’s taken soo long for me to talk about it /lighthearted jokes
sparring as a love language (duh), while they are both pretty competitive about it, they also treat it as a bit of an excuse to make the other get all flustered if they happen be in a vaguely compromising position or submission hold. More often than not sparring sessions end abruptly because of this.
They try not to get too rough with each other, Hayate even adds restrictions on himself to not do certain moves like Nakiryu, Raijin on Ridley, as they could easily turn into medical emergencies. Bascially any sort of ninja arts that has intent to kill is immediately off the table.
Adding to the previous points, Hayate and Ridley will always tend to each other’s wounds after a sparring session.
Since Ridley is famous, being a Pro-wrestler and all, it has been kinda difficult to at least keep her private and public life separate or at the very least out of the pro-wrestling business. So in occasions when Hayate does attend a pro-wrestling event he would more often than not dress up in his old Ein attire, and essentially be ‘Ein ‘ again.
There is one moment when an American paparazzi (who was working in Japan), spotted Ridley and Hayate (who’s dressed up as Ein) walking out of a hotel room and that kinda becomes a ‘cat out of the bag moment’ as the image is distributed by a TMZ-like gossip outlet, and becomes a frivolous headline back in the states. You gotta remember DOA series is canonically stuck in the early-mid 2000s soo…. Yeah not a fun time…..
that said the majority reaction is either ‘good for them’ (mostly by people who actually follow the DOA tournament and recognise Hayate as ‘Ein’), ‘who cares’ (mostly the Japanese media defend her), or more hilariously ‘who the fuck is that?’ (The ‘who’ is reffering to Hayate), and this is mostly said by folks who don’t follow or have never seen a DOA tournament match.
Unfortunately Ridley being a pro-wrestler comes with some serious health scares and setbacks, particularly concussions and other injuries. So more often than not when she’s on paid leave, she will spend time recovering with Hayate being there to help her. Later when their relationship is public to the Mugen Tenshin Village, she stays there to recuperate her strength back.
Hayate while being very supportive sometimes genuinely worries that he won’t get to spend as much time with Ridley as he wants, so he tries to make every moment count.
He doesn’t want her to ‘quit’ wrestling because it’s so clear it’s her passion, it’s a way to express herself. But unfortunately there are moments when he can take so much watching her do so much damage to her own body. It’s a tiny bit ironic considering he’s a trained ninja who’s taught to kill and use lethal force when necessary, but to him I think there would be something nauseating about watching someone destroy themselves for the sake of art.
There’s genuinely that sort of moment that occurs during what’s essentially a ‘no holds barred match’ At a big pay per view event and Hayate was absolutely NOT prepared to see blood be properly spilled in a wrestling ring for the sake of art. Don’t get me wrong he genuinely admired and respects the art but there was a part of him that was terrified that something COULD go wrong. thankfully nothing did.
After the match he went backstage (security would recognise him as Ridley’s boyfriend), and was able to find Ridley being attended to by the on-site medics, and after providing some small minor assistance with bandages and other first aid stuff, he has a moment with Ridley where he hugs her so tightly and whispers to her “I love you, I love you, I love you, but for the love of Kami, please don’t scare me like that again.”
I think after that instance Ridley realised she needed to be a lot more communicative with Hayate and inform him about what to at least expect during particularly long (and brutal) wrestling match. She regrets making the assumption that being a trained ninja meant he could stomach anything with blood being spilled but very clearly that wasn’t the case. When a Shinobi’s loved ones are in danger they take such a situation extremely seriously.
“Hayate… I’m sorry I didn’t mean to make you worry so much.”
I guess in turn this would make Hayate realise he has to open up a lot more to Ridley, for as much has he’s been infatuated with her, he hasn’t exactly let down his guard yet emotionally especially with Victor Donovan always looming in the background and he does genuinely fear loosing Ridley. So this pushes Hayate to be more emotionally vulnerable around Ridley, and be a lot more open to her about his perspective of ninja clan politics.
They’re both always in each other’s corner when need be.
Bonus NG3 Razor’s Edge mini plot bunny: Hayate and Ridley having a morning sleep in together, only to be awoken by a squawking falcon (the belongs the Hayabusa village), with a note attached letting them know of how uh. The dragon sword is out of commission and that Ryu would probably need to borrow a sword of a similar strength, which would be Hayate’s sword Jinran-Maru. Hayate’s reaction to this: ‘Seriously, you interrupt my peace and quiet with my girlfriend for this????’ Honestly it just leaves the two a little miffed that their moment of peace and quiet was interrupted because Hayate’s best friend got infected with an old Slavic curse/virus called the Grip of Murder.
Although hilariously Ryu never actually requested the sword, it’s just that word travels fast and Ryu’s dad was concerned that his son couldn’t carry out his mission without a sword even though Ryu has the Falcon Talons on him shshshs.

Some more random lore bits about my Dead or Alive Self Insert, Ridley Rosé, that I’ve never gotten around to posting about for some reason.
previous posts about my Dead or Alive Self Insert can be found here and here. New details are under keep reading!
Ridley Rosé has tattoos, most of them are flower based (not just roses, but tulips, snapdragons, lillies etc). However, there are other miscellaneous tattoos like blue rens or foxes. Although these tattoos pale in comparison to her most prominent and recognisable tattoo, is a cute demon character/emblem tattooed on her arm. It’s the equivalent to how CM Punk has the Pepsi logo on his arm.
The reason for the Fox motif being assigned to Ridley Rosé, is to follow in the footsteps of the series as many other characters in DOA are associated with animals/mythical creatures: ie: Jan Lee and the Dragon, Hayate and the Owl, Christie with Snakes, Hayabusa with the Hawk, Ayane with the Butterfly etc.
Fox motif kinda fits with her Wrestling Persona because she’s both of a mix of a Heel and a Babyface. Foxes are sneaky, they can betray you. But they can be… somewhat helpful.
Ring Gear Colour Palette most varies, but predominantly uses blue, lime green, yellow, white or black.
Notably stretches out just like Cammy White does in Street Fighter. Yes that stretch, you know the one. Often does this to fluster people. It worked on Ein/Hayate like a charm.
Uses she/they pronouns.
A hobbyist in motorcycles. Has a tourist bike model and a sports bike. Usually goes out for a spin to clear her head, and it’s usually around the crack of dawn or later at sunset/nightfall.
She particularly loves driving on the open road, or in more rural areas.
Prefers practical clothing wear that can’t get caught on things, so she doesn’t really wear skirts or dresses.
This isn’t to say she hates ‘girly stuff’, she’s more than comfortable with wearing girly accessories, just not necessarily wearing extremely feminine clothes.
What I’m saying is, If you asked her out to an extremely posh event, she’ll rock up in a suit.
In an in game sense, her Post Match animations consist of her either sitting down cross legged like when CM Punk does when he’s about to talk, or she knocks the camera out and stands over it with an almost menacing grin (for intimidation and entertainment purposes). Probably cuts a short promo or something.
Pre-DOA1, If you asked any other pro-wrestler about what Ridley Rosé was like to work with and as a person, they’d give you mostly positive answers that she’s a good workhorse, but would have extremely conflicting feelings about her as a person.
This is due to the eventual blow out when she went off script ON AIR and decided to do a Shoot Promo on Tina for ‘Selling out’ (she left wrestling wanting to persue an acting/modelling career but also she’s burnt out by wrestling.) more about this [here] and [here].
When Ridley Rosé gets knocked on her ass at the first DOA Tournament against Tina, she tries to keep it together and she does think about lashing out at Tina, but thankfully Tina recognises Ridley’s emotional turmoil, lends an olive branch out to her instead
Tina knew what Ridley was going through, and her heart could not stop breaking at the sight of a fellow wrestler who’s at their lowest point imaginable. Let alone it be a former tag partner, and co-worker. So she lends a hand to Ridley and gives a pep talk about how she is not alone in her feelings and that the best option for her is to channel her energy into working on herself to be a better person. There is a lot more nuance to the pep talk but that’s just a small idea of what Tina talks about.
After the pep talk, Ridley takes Tina’s hand and just hugs her and cries, she also apologies profusely- Tina accepts and they kinda raise each other’s hands at closing minutes of their match to signify a new leaf is being turned over.
After Ridley takes the time to self improve personally and work wise, she gets back into wrestling by signing a contract with a Japanese Wrestling Promotion, as after she quit/was let go from her contract at her previous promotion, other wrestling promotions pounced on the idea of having her on their roster of talent.
After DOA2-3, Pro-Wrestlers who have worked with her have more positive and empathetic recollections of working with Ridley and her as a person.
BONUS!: Some cool ideas/details IF Ridley Rosé were an actual character on the Dead or Alive roster:
Not exactly the most played character, however those who do play her are known for being an absolute nightmares to encounter online. It gets so bad that she gets a reputation like King from Tekken where counter tools and strategies are made and distributed in communities just so people have an easier time going up against her in game.
Gameplay wise, Ridley would play like a mix between Tina Armstrong, La Mariposa and Hitomi. She has a wide variety of moves inputs, so she’s not limited in her combat options - usually around say at least 140+ moves overall.
Her strikes are quite powerful, has a good selection of throws and holds, however her speed is reduced to help balance her wide versatility. Additional this means it’s easy to punish her moves if she whiffs one of them.
Her character is considered to be ‘Middle weight’ in game, meaning it’s possible to lock her into juggle combos.
Opening dialogue to a match range from “This better not be a waste of my time,” “You better take this fight seriously”, “Just because you challenge me, doesn’t mean I’m going to go easy on you.” + amongst others.
However if facing Hayate or Ein, her opening match dialogue is a lot less serious, going from affectionate to a somewhat upbeat but not exactly playful tone of voice which impiles she’s let her guard down around Hayate specifically.
In Tag Team Mode, the characters Ridley can be partnered up with that contain their own unique intro and victory outros are Tina, Hayate, Ein, Hitomi, La Mariposa and Ayane.
If she is paired with either Hayate or Ein in tag team mode, and are victorious, they have a unique victory pose and dialogue.
When winning a tag match with Hayate, their winning pose animation has Ridley collapsing to her knees, exhausted, while Hayate comes over, and lends her a helping hand to stand up, and when she gets on her feet, she’s a little too close which immediately they both let go of each other, both clearly embarrassed the display of public affection especially when they are trying to keep the relationship a secret.
There’s one with Ein, where both parties are a little more open to showing PDA, but it’s nothing more than Ridley just moving a stray strand of hair out of Ein’s face.
With Tina, their victory pose is a high five, however Ridley retracts her hand causing Tina to miss and be left hanging, while Ridley laughs amused, and eventually Tina gets a crack at it too.
Cant exactly think of what interactions she’d have with La Mariposa, Hitomi and Ayane atm, but know that they do have a unique victory pose/verbal exchange after winning a match..
Compared to a lot of the female cast, Ridley Rosé has pretty much a lower amount of ‘fanservice-y’ costumes, simply because the character isnt keen on restricting her movements in a fight. She does however have as one piece swimsuit and a wetsuit.
One of her more casual costumes has a denim jacket with lots of stitched on patches, and one them is Hayate’s Owl Symbol that is featured in some of his costumes.
The closest thing to a fanservice-y costume she has is an overall bodysuit type outfit in which is worn over a neon green mesh top. Let’s just say it certainly shows off a lot of leg, but also the overall just barely covers her front. Bodysuit reference here, just imagine the pink parts with green colouring.
Has a Halloween DLC costume that’s a two-way homage to slasher flicks and to Hotline Miami. The costume is a stylish bomber jacket with ripped and bloody jeans and a hyper stylised fox mask, although this can be toggled off.
There’s probably a cryptid inspired costume somewhere for her character for yet another Halloween DLC costume.
Of course she’s unfortunately in the first two DOA Xtreme games, but never got included into Venus Vacation due to ‘personal reasons’ (read: being in a committed relationship), but if you pay attention to certain dialogue scenes with Ayane you can get a second answer: which Ayane is quoted along the lines of as saying: “you (the owner of the resort in the Xtreme series) give her the creeps’.

okay unnecessarily semi in-depth post about my DOA self insert, Ridley Rosé.
a hot mess and a bitch (affectionate). she has the same energy as young 2000s ring of honor cm punk did back in the day. It’s my only way to describe her the best but also there’s a lot more to her deep down.
Her first real character arc is realising she can put herself first over the business. The arc that comes after is her trying to navigate on how to be a supportive person to other people, and learning that even if you offer it people may be hesitant to take it, that you need to be patient in those instances of vulnerability.
Has green-yellow hair, undercut to the side - only because all the other non-natural hair colours were already taken in canon lol. However this time my self insert may have accidentally damaged their hair as they tried to bleach it themselves (didn’t go too well!)
She's Australian (duh!), but is under contract for an American Wrestling Promotion (at least for the first installment). She has to do some soul searching first before she goes back to wrestling and even when she gets back to the industry she actually gets signed to a Japanese Wrestling Promotion.
Wrestling style is more in line with classic Hart family Calgary style technical wrestling, but there are some hints of high flying acrobatic wrestling in their too. Think Bret Hart but mixed with Jeff Hardy and the Young Bucks.
Finishing move is pretty simple as it’s a submission hold move that makes opponents tap out essentially.
Aggressively stays in character like Maxwell Jacob Friedman. Well at least during her Heel Era... (she relaxes this rule after some self discovery after the first DOA tournament)
Early in her career she unfortunately prioritises tv time over her personal life, because putting food on the table is really important in wrestling unfortunately, and well the promotion she works for is well... you know. a corporate conglomerate.
Semi (side) Headcanon, but I think one of the reasons why Tina Armstrong in universe leaves wrestling is that she was burnt out by creative and wanted to expand her wings and chase other dreams. My self insert reacts negatively so because she thinks Tina is selling out and she's in denial that leaving would actually be best for her - which obviously that sense gets knocked into her when she loses at the DOA tournament. See slightly more intricate detail here!
She's stands at about 175cm, which is a bit taller compared to my other self inserts, who are usually 169cm. It's not much of a difference but since some characters are 180cm+ it makes her a slightly more intimidating figure amongst the DOA cast.
One of her battle tactics in the DOA tournament is to flirt with her opponents and cater to their egos, and then during their bout, she takes advantage of their arrogance, and steals the win underneath their nose. Obviously she only does this to participants who are clearly adults!
In the instances when she's up against an opponent that's underage, she mostly taunts on how very clearly they are a LITERAL CHILD in a fighting tournament. The exchange is really just the whole One Punch Man Meme of 'What's With This Sassy Lost Child?'.
Does some soul searching part after the first DOA tournament as her match with Tina brought her ego and pride down to earth. This forced her to re-evaluate her life and place in the pro-wrestling scene as she realised she was prioritising the business over her own wellbeing.
Has an odd one-sided rivalry with with Ryu Hayabusa, but it's only because she's jealous of his infamous 'Izuna Drop' and WISHED she had a cool as heck finisher move like he has. When she was on the receiving end of one during one of the earlier DOA tournaments, she was kinda pissed off - because that's a move that could easily kill an opponent and she wanted him to get disqualified (again she's bitter!!). Thankfully the judges and overseers didn't really see anything wrong with it.
This is all VERY funny in hindsight, because after doa5 rolls around. She doesn’t just have one ninja joyfriend, she gets an additional ninja boyfriend! Awesome!
So you know how she has a ‘will they, won’t they’ thing with Tina? What if I told you she had the exact same thing going on with Hayate? It eventually becomes something
It’s a long story with much more intricate details but essentially my DOA self insert is one of the few contestants that is actively able to fluster Hayate and get to break his cold exterior of a shell.
This is mostly due in part to being one of the contestants in the DOA Tournament outside of the Ninjas and Hitomi that he regularly interacts with on positive terms.
Hayate mostly really respects my self insert, and while he would mostly rely on Ryu or his dad for advice - if there is a part of him that is still conflicted on the existing advice he's given - he'll go to my self insert for an unbiased opinion.
Hayate’s half sister, Ayane, initially has some... choice words for my self insert.... But later on she comes to respect the Australian Wrestler for the fact she has been able to break down Hayate's walls and help him open up about his doubts of leading his clan into the new era, especially during a time in which it feels like his home and family are constantly under attack and in danger from MIST's existence.
Ridley is not really in the loop regarding the shadier aspects of DOATEC and MIST's workings, but upon coming across Kasumi Alpha in person she's genuinely taken aback the twisted use of science, especially the real Kasumi she has come across is like. a genuinely nice human being.
She usually makes it just barely in the top ten in the DOA Tournaments, and that's not because she doesn't try hard enough, its that usually she has bad luck where her opponents usually bring out some unseen attack or move out of no where and gets caught off guard. In the later games (4, 5 and 6) she at least makes it in the top 5.
This is what she looks like (obviously I will make a more detailed character design when I find the energy to draw her).
Made with this Picrew
