My ballet hero. Resilient, mouthy, articulate, intelligent, witty, and charming. Rudolf Nureyev was like no other, a dancer can become a higher jumper, a faster turner, but they will not ever have the presence Nureyev had. People think in Dance that it's always about being the best at breaking the boundaries of what you can do with the technique as well as being physically tall and rail thin, but really if you do not have any emotion or feeling in your dancing, you are just a empty shell with a pretty body. A robot who clicks on command is not captivating. I would rather see a dancer who does less turns, has lower legs, and jumps smaller who has an overwhelming presence in personality and emotions developed. Dance has become so focused on trying to go further with the athleticism that I've seen a dip in the actual acting and artistry. We need to take a long hard look in the mirror and say, do I really need to do eight pirouettes or do I need to take some of that energy and put it into the character and creative liberty of my movements? #balletconversations #balletwisdom #dancewisdom #dancechallenge #rudolfnureyev #balletdancer #balletworld #danceworld #beyourself #dontbearobot #becreative

3 billion human lives ended on August 29th, 1997. The survivors of the nuclear fire called the war "Judgement Day." A Sea of Stories: A Potentially Transformative Way of Looking at your Daily Mundane Experiences
We are immersed in a sea of stories. On the superficial and obvious layer, it is definitely true that narratives are large parts of our lives. People tell us stories, share their experiences, and expect the same from us. But if we dig a little deeper, we'll find that our setting tells a countless number of stories. This is a bit of a weird thought, I know. Peculiar, yet infinitely relevant to our daily experience. As I was riding the bus today, looking out the window (standing, of course, I never get a seat), I felt a surreal feeling. The bus drove by a number of places and people. And in NYC, there is constant motion, a dynamic environment. Because the bus was driving rather fast, I was able to get a mere glimpse of each scene: a snapshot. Bear with me as I uncover what I saw. I saw a man on a ladder, fixing the sign that his store awning held. I saw parked cars, along with cars in motion. I saw a line of people waiting at the bus stop, bathing under the scorching sun. I saw a man smoking outside a restaurant. I also saw kids walking home from school, alone and alongside their parents. I saw a couple entering Dunkin Donuts, and a family leaving Coldstone. Hey, I also saw sidewalks with unique patterns of eroded cement, beautiful vibrant garden flowers. I saw the sky and its updated formation of clouds that was different hours ago. I saw just about everything one can possibly see in the public. I saw life in motion--strangers living their lives. It would definitely be interesting to speculate about the stories behind each and every one of the sights I saw. Stark speculation, for sure. But nonetheless, an attempt to understand the complexities and beauties of the world around us. For instance, isn't it a cool idea that all the cars in traffic are heading somewhere? They're on a journey to a destination. One is going home, another to shop, another to meet people. And by driving alongside all these people, you've intersected paths with all of them. There are an infinite number of stories and occurrences that led you to be where you are right now, in the place you're in, the people you're with, and the order of society. So, ponder and reflect on the countless possibilities. And don't ever allow yourself to go through life like a mindless robot. Because a robot cannot speculate or observe the refined details of the human experience. But you, with the creative energy and intellect that God has endowed you with, can take a mundane sight or instance and contemplate on its measureless beauty.
