Anyhow I've been mind parasited with a new natm AU.

I present to you, haunted mansion au.

Idea:

Larry has gotten a letter saying someone from his family line has passed a really long time ago but they just recently found there last wishes thingy, in it it stats that an immediate are will receive the deed to their mansion.

Larry and Nicky go to this mansion and they're like "whoa this shit old and gross" when they look from the outside.

But like the inside of the house is like pretty strangely decorated with all kinds a stuff from different time periods and shit.

The person who gave them the actual deed to the mansion (Dr McPhee) says that the original owners wanted to turn the building into a museum hotel thing where every room would be a different time period.

Think for instance about a room for Egypt, this is then decorated in the entire style of Egypt. There would be hieroglyphics on the walls and then also actual artifacts on display (cough cough the tablet for instance).

So Larry and Dr McPhee sight a contract to actually get the place cleaned up and renovated so that plan can actually be a thing.

And during that Larry and Nicky decide to sleep and stuff in the building (idk just imagine Larry got evicted or something). But they start to notice sone weird things going on.

For inctence a armor statue in the hall (Lancelot) keeps moving and looking at them.

Certain rooms have some strange problem's with wind, noices and electrical shit.

just the idea that the rooms haunted by specific ghosts also give people in the rooms the issues that the people had when they died, that sounds really weird to say it like that so immagine the cowboy room got issues with leakage (Jed probably drowned at least that's my head Canon of how he died) and People in that room struggle to breathe. That kinda shit.

But yeah that... That's it.

Since I don't exactly know what to do plot wise, I just transferred the writing I did from before and improved on it. I know I definitely need to work more on their personalities BUT this is what I have so far!

I have no one else to rant to so I’m gonna just drop this here. If you don’t particularly care for LarPhee/Museum Dads, go on ahead and scroll 👌

You know we specialize in crack here. If that’s not for you, that’s completely ok.

Anyhow, I’ve just been thinking about them and their dynamic. More so with headcanons than anything.

Larry and McPhee are much more similar than one might think. I believe they’ve both experienced the same type of loneliness and abandonment in their life. Larry more so than McPhee, but I think I could make an argument for him as well. (Bc it’s quite clear that hes affected from Larry leaving the museum in the second movie. He literally seems jealous of a monkey, which I find hilarious. That might not be the case, but it’s funnier to think about it that way. There’s also this deleted scene in the third film where Leslie quite literally hugs Larry.)

Though, I believe that they go around treating their abandonment issues in two different ways. Larry has the instilled belief that people are going to leave him sooner or later. I mean, why shouldn’t he? Not has he lost most of his love interests, but as well as his family at the end of the third film. There could be argument that’s why people are driven away from him (at least romantically) but I think this idea is more so taken into play by the end of the third film. So he just goes around and acts like they’re going to leave.

Meanwhile McPhee is a little different. He does have the same idea in mind, but he goes around it in a different way. Instead of accepting that people will leave him, he constantly pushes people away before they can do it themselves. Why else is he so harsh? Aside from the wellbeing of the museum, of course. He’s cold because the world has been cold to him. And if we go into my crack headcanon that Dominic Badguy is his brother, that does not help with the fact that he must feel like he’s in a state of danger.

But! But but but, this where I believe the two could help each other. It’s clear that the two of them have severe issues they need to work through, but why not together? The two of them could learn together that neither of them are the problem. That they do deserved to be loved! Whether it be by one another or the people around them.

This is what makes them so interesting to me, in my opinion. They’re clearly damaged and heartbroken people who could rebuild upon each other. And truly, I find that beautiful.

Aurora Wright was born on the 18th November of 1999, the hospital she was born in could have never fathomed the superstar they had helped deliver. To the outside world, Aurora Wrights life glittered like gold. She was born a delicate girl with wide eyes and a smile ready for the cameras, before she was even old enough to understand. Her Lebanese roots stuck close with her as she grew up in a posh British neighborhood, the reminders of her culture prevalent in her future songs, her home echoed more with silence than safety.

Aurora was pushed into the acting industry by her mother as a little five year old, the grip on her tiny shoulders tight. Displayed as an acting prodigy since her first ever role, Aurora grew to fame in a matter of a few years, the weight heavy on the tiny girl. Her father wasn't present for her, her mother cared more for her roles than for her daughter. her only solace was her grandmother, Layla, a Lebanese poet who taught her how to shine.

The only man who Layla entrusted to look after her, was the gentle giant known as Pedro Pascal. Pedro quickly became her father figure, and at 18 (a year after grandmother passed) when Aurora left her wretched home and didn't look back, Pedro was the person who kept her safe.

Now, they live together in London surrounded by the warmth of the burning candle of their love.

Sabrina Carpenter : Meeting on the set of a movie at 9 years old, you'd think these two are platonic soulmates. Sabrina always pushes Aurora to get out of her shell and be more confident, as Aurora always ground Sabrina. The two are inseparable, best friends that Hollywood hasn't torn apart in 15 years, and never will.

Thomas Brodie Sangster : When asked who the actor Aurora enjoys working with the most, her answer is undoubtedly Tommy. Meeting as tiny little kids on the set of Nanny McPhee, then reuniting for the Maze Runner movies, and once more to work on The Queens Gambit, it's as though you couldn't separate them if you wanted to. She sees Tommy as her big brother, the one who played Pat-a-Cake with her on set so she wouldn't be bored, and she knows that she's his little sister.

I've been reading a lot (A LOT) of Night at the Museum fic and have come to the conclusion that McPhee is criminally underrated. Yes, he is a grouchy and awkward British guy who doesn't understand how idioms work. But also... he cares about the museum so much.

Every time he's being a jerk to someone (which, admittedly, happens a lot) it's because he's worried about the exhibits. He's been protecting the museum in his own way since long before Larry showed up, and he's doesn't even know that the exhibits come to life! He only knows that they were real people once, and that people today can learn something from them, and that's enough.

The third movie? This is peak McPhee. He's willing to commit minor identity fraud to send a bunch of wax figures (and also a dead guy) halfway around the world. Who does that? Who even does that?

Look at the end of NATM 3. Look at this face.

The exhibits he's been watching over for years are alive! They're dancing and laughing and existing in a way he thought was impossible. And he's not worried about them getting hurt or breaking anything or (god forbid) messing up the floor tiles. He's just happy. And I think that's beautiful.

(tl;dr: I am very emotionally attached to this sad grumpy British man.)

A TTTE character that could work in NATM…

Now, I already relayed the suggestion that at least one of the tracks in the Western diorama is G gauge/scale (45 mm) in another post. However… please consider that this has a really funny implication— you could put a Bachmann Large Scale Thomas the Tank Engine (TTTE) model engine on the track and they would fit on it despite sticking out like a sore thumb.

Model engines (from model railroading companies such as Bachmann or Hornby) can be expensive- they’re typically different from a blocky wooden toy train with magnets in that they are often built to resemble the engine (AFAIK). I doubt that a kid could just casually walk around with a Bachmann Thomas and then leave it in a MUSEUM DIORAMA full of other realistic model engines with no faces, and have it left there unnoticed until nightfall. If there ever was a Bachmann TTTE engine placed in there, I would probably chalk it up to be an expensive prank from one of the museum staff.

Given that the Eureka* model engine appeared to be fully operational with steam coming out of itself, its whistle blowing, and all that jazz during nightfall ✨, who’s to say that a Bachmann Thomas couldn’t come to life at night and start yapping about where the hell he is? If only at some point the live action trilogy made like Ant-Man and got the rights to… ah, who am I kidding, they already got Oscar and Darth Vader in NATM2.

However, there is one standout TTTE character that you could put in the diorama and maybe get away with it since it’s surprisingly (to me, at least) appropriate to the time period— apart from having a face, that is: Beau, from the CGI series!

Beau is an old geezer mining engine that works in the Grand Canyon. His place of operation and line of work is similar to Eureka and UP 119*, and he works with cowpokes- all of which fits well for the diorama. I’d like to imagine that he would get along well with the Western miniatures because of it.

He’s based off the real (and preserved in museums!) steam locomotive Virginia & Truckee No. 12, Genoa**. Genoa, along with Eureka*, was built from Baldwin Locomotive Works, ran on wood, and worked in Nevada. They were built in 1873 and 1875, respectively. In real life, Genoa and Eureka wouldn't be on the same track since Eureka runs on a narrower gauge while Genoa runs on standard gauge- though that fact is where Genoa shares a similarity with UP 119*. Speaking of UP 119*, Genoa has also been modified multiple times to play the role of Jupiter, the engine that met with UP 119* at the Golden Spike ceremony, in anniversary celebrations of the event. Assuming the upper track is also G scale/gauge, that would be the more ideal place for Genoa or Beau to be put in to dodge that small real-life inaccuracy despite all the models presumably being the same gauge.

In terms of aesthetics, the Bachmann Beau model isn’t too bad compared to other models! For reference, this first image is a Bachmann model of Reveille, a sister engine to Eureka*; the second is UP 119*; the third is of Beau’s basis Genoa; and the fourth is Beau himself. The one below it is a prototype of the model- it being on an actual set might be a better visual to actually picture it being in the diorama.

Beau is probably as good as it gets as a TTTE character to add to the Western diorama and to smooth things over with Dr. McPhee if he confronts you about it!

*For reference, the model engines in the Western diorama are of the Eureka (the one that hit Larry, lower track) and UP 119 (background, upper track).

**Bonus: Another Ancient Roman parallel?—- Looking up the etymology of Genoa, it may have originated from genua (Latin), which is the plural word for genu, meaning ‘knee’.
