I know the Salmon Team events are not canon, but I’ve got to appreciate these crumbs.
So. If you choose ‘exercising after a meal’

Basically. “Fuck your diet culture, Shuichi”
Definitely the type of person to point out that the ‘conventionally attractive’ body type varies a lot across time and cultures, and that the most common modern ideal is based in Eurocentrism, coloniality, and racism.
Also as a student of anthropology myself, I immediately recognized that last one as a Buddhist practice, which makes sense, especially considering their name contains the kanji for ‘Buddhist temple’ (寺).
I had a professor for a food and culture course who would do that too, interestingly enough, though she also did it when she bought a whole chicken from a farm we were doing an ethnographic analysis on. Thanking the animals for giving their lives. It’s beautiful actually.
There was also a section of that course on ‘eating and embodiment’ or in other words ‘How food culture affects diet culture/body image’.
It just brings back so many memories.
And I miss you, Dr. M

Just finished watching Legion
I put off watching the final few episodes after one of them shook me up a bit with the fate of one of them characters. The ending was actually so perfect, though. It’s so rare to see a great show nail the landing. It’s one of the best if not THE best superhero/villain(in this case) shows I’ve ever seen. It’s ridiculously creative and experimental.
Now, I just want to go back to episode one and start it over again.
#spoiler: even tho Lenny gets a devastating ending the ultimate end of the show makes me think she ends up much better off#she will definitely find Salmon again since they both end up in the same dr ug house#and she had a motivation within herself to be better#so in my mind#she gets sober with her girl#what other show has aubrey plaza as an unbalanced lesbian who is in multiple musical numbers#oh wait. i forgot about Rio…#such an amazing show#legion#legion fx#marvel legion#dan stevens#aubrey plaza#lenny busker#amber midthunder#jean smart#jemaine clement#marvel#review

A Grand Fish-y Story - inspired by Untitled (Wolf, Alligator and Fish) by Tim Ebner
Heres a drawing of Sherlock Hound and Watson for the fandom Affirmation/Transformation exhibit at Marquette University! If you wanna submit art yourself heres a link for it
This drawing is for the theme "new texts" so I made up a fake case where Hound and Watson are looking for missing jewels and find some suspiciously glittery fish in a lake. (it also gave me an excuse to draw a fish just like in the museum art piece XD)
I hope you enjoy, and have an AWESOME day!!
#sherlock hound#dr. watson#marquette university#idk how im supposed to tag the fandom art museum thing#I tried to make the art style look as original sherlock houndsy as I could so i hope it looks ok!#also that fish is an Atlantic Salmon - I looked up native fish in England and thats one of them i think!

I recently listened to an audiobook of Alice in Wonderland.
Now I want a One-shot where Utterson and Jekyll are trapped in Wonderland because of an ugly mirror they gave Lanyon for his birthday.
Lanyon could join the adventure but it's fun to imagine Jekyll trying to explain to Hastie the madness they experienced in Wonderland.
#henry jekyll#hastie lanyon#gabriel utterson#jekyll and hyde#dr jekyll and mr hyde#the strange case of dr jekyll and mr hyde#As I thought about this I imagined them being young#Probably fresh out of college .#I also imagined that Alice's book does exist#And it's one of Utterson's favorite books.#So he is enjoying and having fun by not questioning anything about this place.#While Jekyll is having a hard time#Argued with a Salmon about “the correct use of a hat” which said Salmon started#And he tried not to question how the fish could swim gracefully in the air.#Alice in Wonderland

could i please request a langdon fic that involves abby or his kids? maybe a hurt/comfort one? thank you!
Lifeline
main masterlist | the pitt masterlist
SPOILERS! season one, episode nine
summary: frank calls you when he loses a patient
pairing: dr. frank langdon x female abby!reader
rating: PG-13 for language and heavy topics
word count: 0.5k
warnings: mention of the death of a child
author’s note: thank you for the request, anon! also, i’ve only seen the show twice so sorry if some of the facts about langdon aren’t canon.
He hadn’t waited more than two minutes to call you. Seeing the death of that girl messed with his head, he could only think of the kids you two shared. He fiddled with the bracelet his son gave him as he found your number in his contacts and hit call.
“Hey, babe,” you answered quickly. You always picked up the phone as quickly as you could, especially if he was at work. You knew the kind of work he did took a toll on him, and the least you could do was be there for him when times were tough. “What’s up?”
“Nothing, just thinking of you and the kids,” he said. It was clear from his tone what was wrong; your husband lost a patient, and it hit a little too close to home.
“We’re thinking of you, too, Frank,” you said.
“Can you put Tanner on the phone, please?”
“He’s getting ready for school.”
“Can you… Can you just put him on the phone for a second?” he begged. “I just want to hear his voice.”
“Of course, hun,” you folded quickly. “Gimme just a moment.”
You called over your four-year-old son and handed him the phone.
“Hey, Dad!” he exclaimed.
“There’s my guy,” Langdon sighed. “How you doing, buddy?”
“I’m okay, want to hear a song I wrote?”
“I would love to hear your… your song,” he replied, still shaken up.
After singing his song and talking with his dad for a few minutes, Tanner returned the phone to you.
“Thanks, buddy.” You smiled. “How bad is it?” you asked your husband.
“Bad,” he admitted. “I can’t talk about it too much… how are you?”
“We’re okay,” you said. “I’m taking the kids to school, then heading to the gym for a yoga class, then–”
“You know I love you, right?” he interrupted you.
“Of course I do, Frank,” you said. “You know I love you, too, right? So much.”
There was a beat of silence. “Please keep talking,” he whispered.
“About what?”
“Anything,” he breathed.
“The kids are loving the puppy! They’re coming up with names, too, and I have to say they’re pretty clever. My favorite one so far is ‘doggy,’” you chuckled, making your husband laugh as well. “I think we should call her Frankie, just to mess with you.”
“You’re so funny,” Frank said dryly.
“I know, it’s a gift,” you said. There was another beat of silence.
“Do you think the dog was a good idea?” he asked.
“I think Frankie was a great idea!” you exclaimed. “She’s gonna be a lot of work, but I think it’ll be nice having her around.”
“That’s great, I was worried she was a bad idea,” he admitted.
“You tend to have some pretty good ideas, babe, so if you’ve got more, then keep ‘em coming.”
“I was thinking about stopping for some salmon for dinner on my way home, how about that?”
“That would be amazing, Frank!”
“Well, I’d better go, but I love you so much.”
“I love you so much more,” you countered.
“Not fuckin’ possible.”

Good News - July 22-28
Like these weekly compilations? Tip me at $kaybarr1735 or check out my new(ly repurposed) Patreon!
1. Four new cheetah cubs born in Saudi Arabia after 40 years of extinction
“[T]he discovery of mummified cheetahs in caves […] which ranged in age from 4,000 to as recent as 120 years, proved that the animals […] once called [Saudi Arabia] home. The realisation kick-started the country’s Cheetah Conservation Program to bring back the cats to their historic Arabian range. […] Dr Mohammed Qurban, CEO of the NCW, said: […] “This motivates us to continue our efforts to restore and reintroduce cheetahs, guided by an integrated strategy designed in accordance with best international practices.””
2. In sub-Saharan Africa, ‘forgotten’ foods could boost climate resilience, nutrition
“[A study published in PNAS] examined “forgotten” crops that may help make sub-Saharan food systems more resilient, and more nutritious, as climate change makes it harder to grow [current staple crops.] [… The study identified 138 indigenous] food crops that were “relatively underresearched, underutilized, or underpromoted in an African context,” but which have the nutrient content and growing stability to support healthy diets and local economies in the region. […] In Eswatini, van Zonneveld and the World Vegetable Center are working with schools to introduce hardy, underutilized vegetables to their gardens, which have typically only grown beans and maize.”
3. Here's how $4 billion in government money is being spent to reduce climate pollution
“[New Orleans was awarded] nearly $50 million to help pay for installing solar on low to middle income homes [… and] plans to green up underserved areas with trees and build out its lackluster bike lane system to provide an alternative to cars. […] In Utah, $75 million will fund several measures from expanding electric vehicles to reducing methane emissions from oil and gas production. [… A] coalition of states led by North Carolina will look to store carbon in lands used for agriculture as well as natural places like wetlands, with more than $400 million. [… This funding is] “providing investments in communities, new jobs, cost savings for everyday Americans, improved air quality, … better health outcomes.””
4. From doom scrolling to hope scrolling: this week’s big Democratic vibe shift
“[Democrats] have been on an emotional rollercoaster for the past few weeks: from grim determination as Biden fought to hang on to his push for a second term, to outright exuberance after he stepped aside and Harris launched her campaign. […] In less than a week, the Harris campaign raised record-breaking sums and signed up more than 100,000 new volunteers[….] This honeymoon phase will end, said Democratic strategist Guy Cecil, warning the election will be a close race, despite this newfound exuberance in his party. [… But v]oters are saying they are excited to vote for Harris and not just against Trump. That’s new.”
5. Biodegradable luminescent polymers show promise for reducing electronic waste
“[A team of scientists discovered that a certain] chemical enables the recycling of [luminescent polymers] while maintaining high light-emitting functions. […] At the end of life, this new polymer can be degraded under either mild acidic conditions (near the pH of stomach acid) or relatively low heat treatment (> 410 F). The resulting materials can be isolated and remade into new materials for future applications. […] The researchers predict this new polymer can be applied to existing technologies, such as displays and medical imaging, and enable new applications […] such as cell phones and computer screens with continued testing.”
6. World’s Biggest Dam Removal Project to Open 420 Miles of Salmon Habitat this Fall
“Reconnecting the river will help salmon and steelhead populations survive a warming climate and [natural disasters….] In the long term, dam removal will significantly improve water quality in the Klamath. “Algae problems in the reservoirs behind the dams were so bad that the water was dangerous for contact […] and not drinkable,” says Fluvial Geomorphologist Brian Cluer. [… The project] will begin to reverse decades of habitat degradation, allow threatened salmon species to be resilient in the face of climate change, and restore tribal connections to their traditional food source.”
7. Biden-Harris Administration Awards $45.1 Million to Expand Mental Health and Substance Use Services Across the Lifespan
““Be it fostering wellness in young people, caring for the unhoused, facilitating treatment and more, this funding directly supports the needs of our neighbors,” said HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra. [The funding also supports] recovery and reentry services to adults in the criminal justice system who have a substance use disorder[… and clinics which] serve anyone who asks for help for mental health or substance use, regardless of their ability to pay.”
8. The World’s Rarest Crow Will Soon Fly Free on Maui
“[… In] the latest attempt to establish a wild crow population, biologists will investigate if this species can thrive on Maui, an island where it may have never lived before. Translocations outside of a species’ known historical range are rare in conservation work, but for a bird on the brink of extinction, it’s a necessary experiment: Scientists believe the crows will be safer from predators in a new locale—a main reason that past reintroduction attempts failed. […] As the release date approaches, the crows have already undergone extensive preparation for life in the wild. […] “We try to give them the respect that you would give if you were caring for someone’s elder.””
9. An optimist’s guide to the EV battery mining challenge
““Battery minerals have a tremendous benefit over oil, and that’s that you can reuse them.” [… T]he report’s authors found there’s evidence to suggest that [improvements in technology] and recycling have already helped limit demand for battery minerals in spite of this rapid growth — and that further improvements can reduce it even more. [… They] envision a scenario in which new mining for battery materials can basically stop by 2050, as battery recycling meets demand. In this fully realized circular battery economy, the world must extract a total of 125 million tons of battery minerals — a sum that, while hefty, is actually 17 times smaller than the oil currently harvested every year to fuel road transport.”
10. Peekaboo! A baby tree kangaroo debuts at the Bronx Zoo
“The tiny Matschie’s tree kangaroo […] was the third of its kind born at the Bronx Zoo since 2008. [… A] Bronx Zoo spokesperson said that the kangaroo's birth was significant for the network of zoos that aims to preserve genetic diversity among endangered animals. "It's a small population and because of that births are not very common," said Jessica Moody, curator of primates and small mammals at the Bronx Zoo[, …] adding that baby tree kangaroos are “possibly one of the cutest animals to have ever lived. They look like stuffed animals, it's amazing.””

I saw a post on my dash talking about how Tsumugi is a shitty story teller (as an endearing, "baby's bad at stories but trying her very best just doesn't have the skill yet" character flaw now as a dig) and I REALLY dig that interpretation a lot, but I also want to talk about a different take on it because I have BrainRot about it now
And it has to do with her Mastermind Sprites and the interpretation that V3 Was Not Fiction.

I've posted about this before on my old blog where I jokingly discussed that Tsumugi's eyes (aside from just flat out changing color, like what) look extremely stressed.
Her pupils are drawn with the scratchy look that Danganronpa has used for insanity in the past, and Tsumugi has purple bags under here eyes.
So what could this mean for a Tsumugi Shirogane who was the Mastermind of Game 53, to be on the cusp of insanity and to have bags under her eyes?
A lot of people joked in the original post that it was the Team DR Crunch Time, but I do have to wonder if Tsumugi is even enjoying herself as the Mastermind. These insane, tired looking sprites only pop up when she IS presenting as the Mastermind, and one other time that I think is important to mention.
At the end of her Salmon mode event:
Here is her Graduation Event Video if you want to double check it, but in this instance, the writers chose for not her to only imply that the person "Tsumugi Shirogane" was merely a cosplay, (which is an INSANE LORE DROP that I don't think people notice/talk about ENOUGH about Tsumugi) BUT that the Freudian slip was unintentional--a showcase of her true self.
And how is this "true self" described? Well--
As if the light left her eyes.
This could indicate lifelessness, but I also see it used a LOT to describe exhaustion and depression. A lifeless state of mind, if you will. And this was describing a sprite under the label of her mastermind sprites.
I think Tsumugi is a passionate person over her hobbies and fandom, I think she writes fanfics as love letters to the fandoms she adores and cosplays her characters out of pure love for them, as she complains about in her FTEs when mentioning people have been putting themselves before their characters when it comes to cosplay professionals.
I don't think V3 was a product of her love at all, if she even made it herself. Her grand reveal of her being the mastermind is full of sprites with eyes that are described as lifeless.
I don't think anyone who wants to be doing what they're doing would have lifeless eyes while doing it.
