I am grateful to have spent last night with the @dragontheater family (without whom I would never get to hang out with Wonder Woman and Belle 😏) at the company Christmas party. They are such a heartwarming, incredible group no matter how rarely I get to be around them...and I was totally surprised that this was the main event. Axe-throwing is precisely the kind of activity-like so many slightly dangerous or unusual ones-that both ignites my curiosity to the point of an itch I need to scratch, and also absolutely terrifies me. I thought about how it was unavoidably on my bucket list (which seems to sort of write itself in my soul and not actually get on paper with any sort of calculation), but I wasn’t sure if I “should” considering my health issues Just a few days ago...but like most things that spark my lifelong adrenaline junkie spirit, I couldn’t just sit back and watch. “Sick Jacquie” was thus put in her dark little corner, where I keep putting her over and over until she realizes she’s not getting fed anymore and fades away. After absorbing the lesson, breathing, and visualizing it-I hit the very middle of the target on the first try. I threw my hands up on the air as the room cheered (though this was done for every one’s first “stick”-it’s a very supportive group). We spent the time waiting for our turns dancing to Rihanna. My rate was pretty decent for the rest of the night (I hit the center about 60% of the time), and I felt a beautiful high that took the edge off the pain-welcome since my body doesn’t tolerate that kind of thing from any sort of substance. I am totally adding this to the “skills” part of my acting resume. My life feels like a constellation of these moments. There are these bursts of light where it’s shining even when it hurts.
