[dw] theme code
for @fractalkiss's anon who asked about ren's dreamwidth theme - i'm the creator and here's how to install it :) feel free to message me if you run into problems setting it up or if there's something you need help with etc. this theme is free for everyone to use btw
Tumblr media
1. APPLY BASE THEME
Go to your theme customization page, and search for the "Tabula Rasa" theme. Apply the Plain version, and "2 Column (sidebar on the left)" for the Page Setup.
Tumblr media
2. SET UP MODULES
Go to the modules page, and uncheck all the modules except for the following:
[1] Profile
[2] Custom Text
Make sure the numbers match as well so everything displays in the correct order.
[5] Link List
Tumblr media
3 COPY & PASTE CUSTOM CSS
The most important part: adding the actual custom layout to modify Tabula Rasa.
Go to the Custom CSS section, and paste the code below into the Custom Stylesheet URL box.
https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Material+Symbols+Outlined|Material+Symbols+Rounded|Inter:400;500;600;700
Make sure Use layout stylesheet(s) is checked.
In the Use embedded CSS box, copy and paste the entire code HERE.
Tumblr media
4. EDIT TEXT SETTINGS
If you check your theme, you'll notice some glaring errors. Go to the text section, and input anything you want in the Text for the 'Custom Text' box for it to be displayed on your blog sidebar.
Tumblr media
To fix the icons, make sure the settings under the Entry section match the image below.
Tumblr media
5. ADD YOUR LINK LIST
In order to add the navigation links to your sidebar, go to Link List and fill out the link details like so: (recommended to have max 4)
Tumblr media
# HOW DO I CHANGE THE COLOR SCHEME?
In the theme code, under :root, you can change the hex code for the folllowing variables:
--background
-- entry
--dark
--darker
--darkest
--font-color
--accent
--darker-accent
Tumblr media
that's pretty much it! again, if there's something you need help with when setting this up, do send me a message. note that this theme is for dreamwidth and dreamwidth only, and will not work on livejournal. enjoy anons and friends!

I really don't think these early poll results are going to reflect Tumblr demographics at large, but what the hell.
Hey, you! Do you remember LiveJournal? Remember all the fun you had there? Remember all the cool fics and communities and stuff?
Dreamwidth is basically LiveJournal but better!
Yes, LJ was more work than Tumblr is! Yes, it was harder to share images! But damned if it wasn't still a helluva lot of fun, and I miss it dearly!
We can still have that kind of fun on Dreamwidth!
Join me, everyone, and together we can rebuild better than we ever had it at LJ!

on one hand, far be it from me to judge a fanfic based on the creators' politics/beliefs
on the other, sometimes you learn things that make the fanfic in question make A Lot more sense

at one point I had 245 icons uploaded (on dreamwidth - I think my lj topped out at like 150?) and thousands more saved to use later. my pfp started as an lj icon!
Remember how LiveJournal let you have several icons (or avatars or "pfps" as you might call them now)? And you'd carefully choose an icon to fit the subject matter, your tone, and the blog on which you were commenting or posting?
And it could make your argument look that much snarkier if you used a rude one? Or you could use it to add a multiplier to a joke?
And icons, alongside banners and wallpapers, were a whole genre of fanwork with its own design language, conventions, and norms, including carefully crediting people for them?
That was neat.

Guess who just finished a six month art project? 😃
Behold, the fruits of my labor: A complete Dreamwidth (and similar site) custom mood theme!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(For complete image descriptions of individual moods, see the Rat Moods tag on my Dreamwidth account and click through the posts. Sorry for the extra complications, but it is not possible to fit every description in under four thousand characters.)
An explanation: Dreamwidth and similar sites, like its "parent" site LiveJournal, have an option to add "moods" from a drop-down list to every post you make. Dreamwidth itself hosts a number of default mood themes, but if you have a paid account, you have the option of using a custom mood theme with images you choose. I've wanted to make one with pet rats for years, and this year I finally did something about it: I started the Dreamwidth community "Mood Theme in a Year", with the goal of completing an entire custom mood theme between January 1st and December 31st.
...I may have rushed ahead a bit 😅
Rat lovers may be interested to see some of the natural behaviors I've included here, though I've also gone "off-script" and included quite a few more anthropomorphic behaviors as well. You might also be interested to discover how some of the moods relate to each other!
I plan to make this mood theme available for general public use in the near future! I do want to make a few alternates first; I already have three other skin tone variations for Touched (a black hooded dumbo rat being touched on the head by a person's finger), but I want to make a variation of each of them with ring splints; I also want to do a variation of Intimidated (a trembling gray rat with a calico cat sneaking up on it) and Rushed (that same rat running away from the cat's swiping paw) with an owl instead.
So yeah! That's something I've been working on recently. I had a total blast making it, and I'm super pleased with how it turned out 🐭💗
(@rat-detector, do you think that your followers might perhaps like to see these...?)

List of Sims 2 Custom Content (CC) Sites
Something for any sims 2 newbies who might stumble upon my tumblr. This is not an exhaustive list, just some web sites and blogs I know of and like.
Just a little warning first, english is my second language and while I read it fluently, I have some trouble with phrasing stuff. So the following might be a bit wonky.
Multiple Creators
Mod the Sims: one of the biggest sims 2 sites, also has content for the other sims games
Garden of Shadows: it's forum but you don't need to register to see or download stuff, also has content for sims 3 and sims 4
simblr.cc: quite new, also has content for the other sims games plus inZOI
Plumb Bob Keep: CC for historic themed games, the Download section is visible without registration
Sims2Artist: another forum
Simspearls: forum, registration needed before you can access it.
Creators with their own sites
Nixed Sims: Has historic and modern themed content
LordCrumps: Sims 4 to Sims 2 conversions
Around the Sims 2: inactive, but has lots of nice stuff. Creator is still actively making CC for Sims 3 and Sims 4.
Pick'n'Mix Mods: they made some really practical utility programs for the game
The Medieval Smithy: mostly medieval CC but you can find some CC for other eras too.
Some of my favorite Simblrs (in no particular order)
@deedee-sims
@creesims
@letomills
@platinumaspiration
@fracturedmoonlight
@lucilla-sims
@kaluxsims
Skell Downloads, The Maxis Match Repository Project and Old timey Skellington: Creator is inactive.
Creators on Dreamwidth
Almighty Hat: Some of the best medieval CC. Creator is inactive as of 13.04.2025.
Magical Girl Sandbox
Mrs Mquve
Angela Pleasant
Other important places
The Sims Graveyard: Stuff from disappeared Sites. Warning: Always quite slow
@sims2packrat: another important place to find lost CC.
@sims2tutorials: Links to many Tutorials
@lazyduchess: They made some very important fixes and mods for any Sims 2 game
Sims 2 Default Database: Don't like a Maxis Outfit, here you can find replacements for them
Object Default Database: Same but for Objects
Pinterest: Some Simmers make collections that link to CC sites and creators there.

20 QUESTIONS: GET TO KNOW THE BLOGGER!
I see this sort of thing in other blogging communities but haven't run across it elsewhere. So here, some snz-themed asks you can answer yourself, or have your followers ask you.
REMINDER: this is for the snzkink communities. Minors and vanillas do not interact.
Tumblr media
QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SNZBLOGGER:
What was the first piece of media that made you realize you had a kink? ("Fascinations" as a child don't count here, this is your completely aware awakening.)
RE Media, as in fiction: what is your most recent fix?
RE Media, creating: what kind of snz content are you currently seeking out? snz fic, art, audio, video, etc?
Do you create things? What do you make? (Again, snzfic, art, wavs, videos etc)
What are some of your favorite tropes / themes?
What, if any, appeals to you in real life?
What is your dream scenario, either to read / see or hear / watch in real time?
What tropes / scenarios do you love in fiction that you would hate in person?
What do you like that's pretty standard?
What don't you like that's pretty standard?
Describe your favorite symptom(s). BONUS: explain why you enjoy your favorite symptom(s).
Colds vs Allergies (you knew it was coming) and why.
What snz-adjacent things do you love? EX: handkerchiefs, tissues, warm blankets, stolen hoodies, comfort items etc.
If you're into inducing, what are your favorite methods? If only in specific scenarios, feel free to clarify.
What are your top favorite ways to engage with your kink, by which I mean reading, looking at art, listening to .wavs / videos, browsing tumblr / forums etc.
What are your top two (you can add more, but at least two) things you like to do most on snzblr? EX: creating new things, enjoying things other people made, sharing headcanons, lurking etc
What was the tipping point that made you want to make a fetish blog?
How many blogs are you following? BONUS: Are they all snz blogs?
What would you like to see more of, and are you trying to promote / add more of that into the community?
How long have you been in some form of the snz community? (Forums, Livejournal / Insanejournal / Dreamwidth, personal websites, webrings, something else.) BONUS: What was your favorite format and why?
That's it for now, I hope you enjoy! Try to send in an ask to whoever you reblog it from, at least.

After a conversation with a friend about this weird trend of fic readers who only want epic length fics (and also what seems to be a massive misunderstanding between parties on terms and their definitions), I went searching for the fandom sources I cut my teeth on. I don't have much bookmarked from those days anymore, but googling got me to this fiction length/terminology breakdown from a Livejournal blog. (Which also has good fandom definitions for other terms like A/N and fanon too, so if you're super new to fandom, go check that out.)
Tumblr media
The definitions come from the publishing world (hence the page counts), but fandom and fanfic has always borrowed heavily from official publishing terminology. Flash fiction (aka, anything less than 1k words) is called a 'ficlet' within fandom. We call everything else a fic until it reaches the novella mark -- which may start at 20k words but as synecdochic breaks down on their Dreamwidth blog, there's a lot of overlap between short stories and novella word counts. Because, when you're not constrained by physical page counts, the real dividing line between short stories and novellas are the number of plots and themes you're using. (Seriously, go read their meta on this topic. It's fantastic!) Either way, once you're hitting tens of thousands of words, you're in longfic territory. And then if your fic is even longer than that -- 100k+ like shown in the screenshot above -- it's called an epic fic.
And these terms, longfic and epic, are important because they're used to differentiate these stories from the average fic. Because, at least in the 2000s up until the 2020s, the most common fic lengths you ran into were between 1k-20k words. "Fic" made the reader assume only a few thousand words at most. It's only when you changed the term to drabble or ficlet or longfic that they would realize 'oh this is going to be shorter or longer than normal'.
I don't really understand why that baseline assumption has changed amongst the newer demographics (and maybe amongst some long-running fandom members too?). I've seen a lot of theories and 'tiktokification' complaints, but I honestly don't know what's true. And I don't want to start a fight or even try to change anyone's minds if they are dead set against reading short story length fics. You can do what you want!
Just maybe shift your attitude about it a little bit? Remember that it's a personal preference the same way tropes are, and that one story length isn't better than another. Just like tropes, each story length serves its purpose. Some stories are best told in 1-2k words. Some are best told as 100 word drabbles -- or even a single sentence! And then, yes, some stories do need to be 100k+ in order to be told properly.
But that's not every story. And it shouldn't be expected of fic writers to pad a 1500 word plot into some sprawling epic just because they left it on a cliffhanger. The cliffhanger is probably the point of that fic! Short stories are an entirely separate art form to novels and as such are able to cover different topics than novels can or cover the same topics differently. And that's what makes them special!!
And look at that word count breakdown by genre! That's mainstream publishing standards! Now, go back up there to the definition of a novel and notice that the average published novel is 80k words long.
Let me repeat that:
The average length of a published novel is 80,000 words long.
Could a novel go longer? Sure! And if you're dipping into adult sci-fi or fantasy, absolutely it will be longer! But does your fic need to be longer than the average novel in order to be good? In order for you to feel satisfied when you finish reading it? Why does the length of the fic matter more to you than the content?
idk just some rambling food for thought, but I guess too long, don't read:
~✨~ Every story length is valid ~✨~
It just depends on the plot you have and the structure you want to use to tell it.
